Lancome Matte Shaker High Pigment Liquid Lipstick
Lancome Matte Shaker High Pigment Liquid Lipstick
What’s Up Guys! Here’s a nice alternative to the Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet Liquid Lipstick or the Dior Lip Tattoo with a slightly different twist or more like a shake. The Lancome Matte Shaker (0.20 oz: $22) is a lightweight and highly pigmented liquid lipstick that’s unique and entirely different from most liquid lipsticks. It’s cute and it applies using a cushion applicator that acts like a…

do you have a lipstick that you would recommend for ease of wear, longevity, and/or pigmentation? i am not great at makeup (manual dexterity/sensory issues) and "Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain" is the only brand i've had good success with, but i'd love to branch out!
It first of all depends on your definitions of these categories, and I will share mine. By “ease of wear” I mostly mean: stays on your lips (instead of moving around your face), doesn’t transfer a ton (nearly nothing is no-transfer, but like, being able to nurse an iced coffee through a straw and still have lipstick on, even if you also have lipstick on the straw, or not rubbing lipstick all over your face when you wipe your nose), not too drying or painful, and doesn’t require a handbook to apply. For longevity, I think we rarely really need an 8 or 12 hour wear, right? Like if we’re being honest? The ideal could be: an eight hour workday, touched up at breaks and touched up or reapplied after lunch. Part of this is being able to touch it up by adding a layer, and this is where the liquid lip as a genre largely fails. Youtuber Stephanie Nicole’s liquid lipstick reviews covers this aspect, whether a product can be layered in touchups without getting nasty. In addition to this, the dream is something that wears off gracefully, which is again not a strong suit of the liquid lip, but really has more to do with shade than anything. A pink lipstick is going to look okay if it’s half worn-off, right. Pigmentation I guess is clear enough!
I want to update my faves this year and give you a better list. For years the best lipstick formula came from CoverGirl but I need to do a comparison of their new line to the old LipPerfections. Those were the best and will remain the best like, forever. If you see them at Big Lots just get them. Maybelline also made the best lipsticks at the drugstore level but I haven’t been seeing great stuff out of them in a while and I want to see if their newer lipsticks are alright. I have never tried a Milani lipstick I didn’t like but I also don’t necessarily think any of them are phenomenal, but if your drugstore has them half off you should try some. The way I figured out what I liked out of lipstick was, 100%, building a collection out of whatever shades are on clearance at rite aid and in bins at Big Lots.
At the higher end, Bite makes some of the best lipsticks that are IMO becoming the formula to beat in the industry (the Amuse Bouche lipsticks), those are way up there at $26. (Big name drugstore is hitting $10 for lipsticks, MAC lipstick prices are becoming unconscionable to me compared to their old $15 or $16.50, it’s really hard to want to fuck with anything in between NYX or Wet n Wild and like Marc Jacobs at this point.) When MAC does a cream well it conquers at all of the above, but I would say MAC only does anything well at about 50%--read temptalia reviews on any you consider, and be extremely suspicious of all other reviews. (I mean this is my advice in general, but especially for MAC.) Every single high end brand makes great lipsticks and terrible lipsticks, you can spend as much as you want to spend. (Lipstick is the thing I like to spend money on because it feels like it’s yours forever.)
A few notes on manual dexterity, which I do want to revisit eventually: my lipstick application requires some precision because of my lip shape, but liquid lipstick is one of those things that just doesn’t work for people who struggle with that. I do have varying degrees of tremor in my hand mostly from medication I think, and I find that a traditional lipstick at least goes on more quickly. There’s a lot more to this depending on the issue, but there are tricks to stabilize your hand if that’s the issue, and I bet there are tricks if grip is the issue. There are also formulas that look fine with less precision, liquid lips and mattes in general are not those.
If you had good experience with balm stains I think I can understand why, unfortunately I don’t have very much experience with that type of thing at all and can’t make a ton of recommendations. I think you might consider looking for slightly shimmery or glossy lipsticks, which will not give you necessarily the pigmentation or longevity, but the ease of wear and application and comfort, and graceful fading, depending. I’ll try to think of some examples. I also have a feeling you might like some of the ColourPop Lippie Stix, which have a range of finishes. I said the other day that I feel ambivalent about these, but it’s only because I prefer a more traditional tube of lipstick. You’ll want to look for creme finishes. (Alright KathleenLights, I’ll bite.)
You know what lip product I tried this year that I totally was skeptical of but ended up adoring? Those Lancome matte shakers. It has kind of a lipstain vibe in a mildly matte finish. The tip on them is actually a dream to apply and so different, might be something that works for you. They’re a bit drying but nothing as bad as a traditional liquid lip. If you have a lancome counter by you I highly recommend playing around with them. It helps that my friend who gave me samples got the PERFECT shades for me. I also think they might short you a bit on product which is what I feel like every time there is a novelty applicator, possible conspiracy. But the price is honestly not that terrifying, all things considered.
I also think you should think about something like a chunky lip pencil, like the Nudestix ones or the Nars velvet mattes. I’m not sure how I feel about those in general and have tried, like, one of each and some random brands, but I think they might give you everything you need. Holding out on more recs for you though because I know a few high and brands and elf are about to launch versions of this type of thing.
