Are supercars made for city driving? The answer, ostensibly, is often a resounding no. But along comes the Lamborghini Huracán STO and one could just about imagine parting with a cool $1.3 million for this naturally aspirated V10.

So expect a veritable beast that wields astonishing power, is impossibly quick, and corners faster with remarkable surefootedness, thanks to a new integrated ‘shark fin’ on the rear bonnet (plus a few other nifty features, too). It doesn’t get much better than this. At a dry weight of just 1,339 kg, the Huracán STO is an aerodynamic marvel that’s 43kg lighter than the already lightweight Huracán Performante. More than 75 per cent of its architecture is constructed in carbon fibre, and the use of this lightweight material continues throughout the pared-down, driver-centric cockpit. So obsessed were Lamborghini engineers in shaving off weight that even door handles have been replaced with a synthetic cord you tug to open the carbon fibre door. 

In fact, the Huracán STO boasts a 37 per cent improvement in overall airflow efficiency, and a 53 per cent increase in downforce over the Huracán Performante—thereby blasting the competition with the highest level of downforce in its class. The result is a track-worthy two-seater, two-door coupe that rockets from standstill to 100km/hr in a mind-numbing three seconds, all to a delicious soundtrack that summons the power of 640 horses and 565 Nm on tap.

Italian Police Will Soon Ride in a Lamborghini Urus Performante - Technology Org

Police need fast cars. This is quite obvious – suspects might have extremely powerful vehicles and letting them run away with them sometimes is not an option. However, the police also need cheaper cars because taxpayer’s money needs to be respected. So how come that Italian police are riding in Lamborghinis? Recently Italy’s police got a brand new Lamborghini Urus Performante.

It is actually a tradition of Lamborghini to provide supercars to the Italian State Police. Soon this collaboration is going to celebrate its 20th birthday.

It started in 2004, when Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian State Police agreed to field some extreme supercars to aid the Highway Police. While many stereotypes can be hurtful, Italians probably won’t mind us saying that speeding in the beautiful Italian autostradas is not an uncommon occurrence.

Italy is the land of supercars and catching them is not always easy. And so the Italian police back then got a Lamborghini Gallardo to patrol the country’s highways and perform other important duties.

Now the Italian “Polizia Stradale” will enjoy a more practical car – a Lamborghini Urus Performante, which will enter into service in 2024. In these 20 years this Urus Performante SUV is the sixth Lamborghini model to enter into the Highway Police fleet.

Of course, it was customised to fit the needs of the police better. This Urus Performante received the appropriate paint job, lights, armoured weapon box, a flip-down message display and a special compartment in the trunk for stowing service equipment and a defibrillator for first aid response.

And that is a good indication of what is one of the expected duties of this vehicle. The Urus Performante in the police force may have to perform special services including the urgent medical transport of organs and plasma.

Other Lamborghini vehicles, such as the Lamborghini Huracán, have already performed such missions. This Urus Performante even has a portable fridge for the transportation of organs.

The Lamborghini Urus Performante is a big, but extremely powerful car. It has a twin-turbo V8 engine, pushing out 490 kW of power and 850 Nm of torque. It can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 306 km/h.

Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, said: “Knowing that our cars are used for public duties and, above all, for crucial operations to save human lives, can only make me and the whole company proud. These initiatives, which bring us great satisfaction, demonstrate our innate close ties with Italy.”

Who knows how long this partnership will go on. But it is cool to know that police in Italy have access to Italian supercars and use them to save lives.

Lamborghini Urus Performante donata alla Polizia di Stato: presentato a Roma il Super SUV allestito per trasporto organi e servizi speciali. Roma. Prosegue la proficua collaborazione tra Automobili Lamborghini e la Polizia di Stato, che dura da quasi 20 anni. Stavolta l'azienda di Sant'Agata Bolognese ha donato alla Polizia Stradale una Urus Performante che entrerà in servizio a partire dal 2024. La cerimonia si è svolta a Roma oggi in piazza del Viminale, alla presenza del Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri Giorgia Meloni, del Ministro dell'Interno Matteo Piantedosi, del Capo della Polizia – Direttore Generale della Pubblica Sicurezza Vittorio Pisani e di Stephan Winkelmann Chairman e CEO di Automobili Lamborghini. Nel corso dell'evento Stephan Winkelmann ha consegnato le chiavi della vettura al Ministro dell'Interno Piantedosi. La collaborazione tra Automobili Lamborghini e la Polizia di Stato è iniziata nel 2004 e la Urus Performante è il sesto esemplare Lamborghini a entrare nella flotta della Polizia Stradale. Il Super SUV si va ad aggiungere alla Huracán LP610-4, per essere impiegata per servizi speciali tra cui il trasporto sanitario urgente di organi e plasma.   Urus Performante è stata allestita dai tecnici Lamborghini a Sant'Agata Bolognese, a partire dagli esterni, seguendo le specifiche della Polizia. La livrea è stata disegnata dal Centro Stile Lamborghini e combina il classico "Azzurro Polizia di Stato" al bianco con le fasce tricolori sui brancardi e sulla linea di cintura. Sulle portiere sono stati applicati i loghi della Polizia in pellicola riflettente, mentre sul tetto è stata installata una barra luminosa con luci Led blu a 360°, combinata con una sirena elettrica bitonale. L'abitacolo è stato personalizzato con vari elementi indispensabili per il servizio di pubblica sicurezza, tra cui un cassetto blindato porta arma, un pannello per messaggi grafici abbattibile e uno speciale vano alloggiato nel bagagliaio per lo stivaggio delle attrezzature di ordinanza e di un defibrillatore per interventi di pronto soccorso. Completa la dotazione un frigo portatile per il trasporto organi comprensivo di display e datalogger per monitoraggio costante della temperatura interna. Urus Performante è equipaggiata col motore V8 biturbo da 666 CV di potenza massima e 850 Nm di coppia a regimi da 2.300 a 4.500 giri/min, che garantisce una accelerazione da 0 a 100 km/h in soli 3,3 secondi e una velocità massima di 306 km/h.
