💘 Romantic Snippet Tag 💘

Rules: Describe the main romance of your WIP in a 1-4 sentence snippet.

I haven't been tagged, but I saw @pinespittinink's post and immediately thought about the four-sentence in «Mimi». Sadly, romance isn't the main genre (not even the second one) in this book, but it will have romance. Someday.

They rest the side of their fingers so gently I can barely feel them on my temple, their thumb brushing the patch-free space on my forehead. I can only see their arm. My body failing to release the air trapped in my lungs, having forgotten how to do it manually. “Don't worry, it will pass soon.”

I don't think I have mutuals to tag, but I just wanted to share this.

I noticed a pattern when I looked for this, uh... I will have to write something else because of it now.

“Okay,” they stretch their arms out, though only the one holding the umbrella a little, “if that's not a topic of conversation, how about this one?” Their index finger points to my face. “What's that?” I blink at their finger and step back as if they touched me. “‘That’?” I whisper. Do I have something on my face? “What happened to your forehead?” Ah. The tension I didn't know I was holding leaves my muscles and I breathe. It's just the patch. I keep a hand there, brushing against the fabric, knowing full well how much it's going to hurt as soon as I try. It sure continues to cool the area, but it had to have synced with the temperature of the weather because I don't even feel it. “I stumbled,” I mutter.

Right now I'm just writing an Alternative Universe of a story I'm not planning on working on soon because I should be writing about another, using NaNoWriMo as a boost and etc, but I lost momentum for sick days and, through them, I was watching the second season of the series that sparkled the AU, so I'm stuck with them. Here a snippet of fresh writing:

The dress falls like a circle of cloth at her feet and, taking her cousin's offered hand, Miss Amayah steps out barefoot, allowing Giselle to pick up both the garment and the shoes. Lady Michiko turns in place, following the path her cousin takes to the vanity seat. “There's a ball tonight. We will go, right?” “Do you want to go?” Miss Amayah looks at her for a few seconds through the mirror, passing a wet towel over her lips and eyelids to get rid of the tincture. “Of course. Why else would I be doing all this? The plan is to attend, meet some people and invite them home.” “If the objective is to invite strangers to your house, it will not be necessary to go to any ball.” Not understanding her point, Miss Amayah looks at her again using the mirror, quietly waiting for Giselle to finish helping her remove her coat. Her maid changes it into a robe and, putting it on, Lady Michiko ties the cord at her waist, turning her back to remove her pants as well and handing them over to her along with her shoes. When her reddish gaze returns to her, Miss Amayah raises an expectant eyebrow. “What are you talking about?” Clearing her throat gently, Lady Michiko plunges a hand into the pocket of her robe. “Of course, of the endless line of suitors who will be hanging around the entrance starting tomorrow?” “Suitors?” Miss Amayah turns in her seat to face her. “But if at no time I have said that I'm interested in getting a husband, why should they-?” The look on her cousin's face prevents her from even finishing the question. Straightening her back, she understands that whatever she is about to say is serious and she must give it her full attention to comprehend it. But her silence lasts longer than expected. “What is?” Lady Michiko diverts her gaze to rest it elsewhere in the room and Miss Amayah's laughter springs unintentionally from her nerves, clearing her throat to cut her off, settling back in her seat. “Dearie, what is it about?” As she continues not to speak, the moment she shifts her weight from her feet, Miss Amayah stands up, unable to bear the stillness for another second. “Jessenia, you are scaring me.” “You might prefer to listen to it while sitting down,” she points to her seat. “I was and you didn't say anything!” Lady Michiko still doesn't look at her face, turning to look at Giselle, who is waiting in front of the dressing room, waiting for her lady to choose her next dress to take away. The maiden stirs a little at the sudden attention. “A shot of vodka, please.” “Vodka?” Her cousin repeats, confused and surprised, while Giselle rushes out to fulfill the request. “You drink? Since when?” Rather than the questions, it's the incredulous and forlorn tone with which she makes them feel worse for Lady Michiko, immediately longing for the drink down her throat. Maybe more than one drink. “For six years. There are many things you don't know, Maya.” “I think I'm realizing it,” she murmurs. And the trust between the two can be felt in the air like glass cracking. Her cousin shakes her head, pressing two fingers to the bridge of her nose. “We can talk about me another time.”

I'm seeing a contrast in my writing... I want to share almost all the excerpts that include the word "night" and none of the ones that have the word "day". At least with Mimi.

Anyway, here the first time the word appears. Thrice. For extra night-y.

It's still too dark when the light goes out, it must still be late at night, or very early in the morning. Perhaps too early for it to still be night. I reach my hand towards the nightstand next to the bed, opening my eyes after the light returns, stopping to run my fingers towards the surface to take my cell phone and turn on the screen. 4:57 a.m. Still too early.

Mimi: Wip Intro

Synopsis

Mimi Milan doesn't have normal dreams, instead, she can dream with people she knows and discover their true faces, without filters. This is how she knows that no one is to be trusted because everyone always has ulterior motives, even her family. But her dreams also have a dark secret. If she gets injured in them, her injuries remain on her body when she awakens and she has to deal with them regardless of severity. When her dreams start to turn violent, can Mimi find a safe way out?

Genre: Mystery, Mental Health, Overcoming.

Trigger Warnings:

An abusive and violent environment in different facets: emotional, verbal, physical, and through toxic relationships.

Moments of panic and anxiety attacks will be described.

We will be seeing firsthand a myriad of intrusive and suicidal thoughts.

Past and present self-harm will circulate a lot; there will be a lot more blood than I would like.

Although the term itself is not used, depression is one of the topics.

There is a chance that a car accident will be mentioned in detail.

WTW Ghost Gala - Day 1: Pumpkin Carving

🎃 Pumpkin Carving 🎃 - You have to kill off a character: Who do you choose?

I didn't have to think long when a name popped up in my head:

✨ Maya ✨

Also known as Amayah or Amayah Nomura.

She's the main character of her story, which has passed (the story) through a lot of names—seriously, where is the one that really fits?

She was my character during a roleplay in a My Hero Academia forum.

Then, she passed to be one of the six main characters of the original (or attempt to) story, Heroes.

I started posting and sharing Alternative Universes featuring her like Ethienne, and also have been working on a prequel of whatever the final name of her story will be, calling it simply Maya.

Now I think the original story will be called Prowess, but there's still a long way to go.

Anyway!

You're probably asking yourself why I would choose Maya as the sacrifice. It doesn't have a complicated answer.

✨ Maya will go willingly ✨

That doesn't mean she won't fight or will simply let herself die at the slightest opportunity, no. What that means is that, after all the effort and all the actions and all the energy and all the possible things she could do, if in the end, she still has to die, she will accept her fate and die.

And, more importantly, will do so in a way that would let everyone around her understand it. And they will respect her "choice" that way, the course of fate. Because, of course, Jessenia and her family would riot and challenge the gods and everything if she dies in a way she shouldn't.

I won't think about the circumstances of her death because that's not planned in any of the universes where I have her. Almost deaths, yeah. Unbearable pain, hell yes. But she always lives through it. And like the way she gets to live through it all, in that same way I picture her death right now.

If she has to go, she will go. Taking the hell of the world with her if she's able. Leaving something behind to reassure her loved ones if she's not.

Find the Vibe

@winterandwords was so kind to tag me in this interesting game and though I had to search for the phrase "I need this" on my WIP, I didn't have it, so I took the vibe it gave me and found two matches.

This is from my girl, Mimi.

The first one is more like me telling her "You need this":

“Beautiful, isn't it?” I blink slowly, turning my head to look at the boy three steps away who is smiling at the rain. They look happy that it's raining, or at least I think so from the twinkle in their eyes and the honesty in their smile. But they have an umbrella that they're leaning on, so they can go play the poet elsewhere in the college. “Sorry?” “The rain,” they point out with their chin, “isn't it beautiful?” The obstacle preventing me from getting home in some way that doesn't resemble a wet cat? Nop. We are not sharing perspectives here, dude. “It's just water. Falling from the sky.” “In fact,” they laugh softly. I frown at the discomfort their laughter stirs in my chest. I am not amused, why are they laughing? “Sorry,” they put a hand over their mouth until the laugh goes away, returning it to the other on top of the umbrella handle. “I didn't mean to laugh, but I couldn't help it.” “I don't understand how,” I mutter, shifting my weight off my feet, taking a step away. I want to create more distance or turn away, but there's something in their voice… I can't quite place it. The emotion in my chest only gets bigger, I don't understand it. “I just left a friend.” Why do they keep talking to me? “Where do you need me to take you?” Oh.

In the second one, she notices for herself something that she needs.

I bring one hand to my stomach, tipping my cup with the other to find it empty. I purse my lips. Getting up to make more tea feels like an impossible task, my muscles tense, my body heavy. I decide then to open the conversation of this new group, the discomfort will pass faster if I attend to its cause, right? [...] No. It didn't get better. I purse my lips again. How am I going to tell Becca that nothing has occurred to me since we received the section? I leave the cell phone on my notebook on the table, supporting my arms on the sofa behind me to get up. Whether my body cooperates or not, now I do need that tea, and this time I plan to fill the kettle to repeat as many times as necessary until the lump in my throat disappears –or at the very least loosens.

I... honestly don't know who I can tag, so I will let it open to whoever wants to play (tag me so I can see your answer). The phrase / energy / vibe / feeling for you to look for is I hear you / I'm hearing you.

Heads Up, 7 Up

I'm taking @blind-the-winds' push, though I'm not even sure anymore if this is seven lines, seven sentences, or seven what... I will go with sentences.

I stop looking at the empty square where my message would go, my attention falling on the last hour he was online, 10:03 am, almost two hours ago. His profile photo shows him from the shoulders up, lost looking at something off-camera. He seems calm, and happy, and I wish… I close my eyes, turning off the cell phone screen and putting it in the backpack's pocket without looking. When I open them, I turn my head to look out the window, intending to lean back in the seat and lose myself in whatever might keep my attention out there, but we're close to my stop. Really close. I jump up, slinging my backpack and heading to the exit doors, pressing the stop button on the way.
