So, I wanted to tell everybody about this anime series I discovered thanks to my girlfriend. I'm not sure if anybody else here is into it, but it's called Ladies Versus Butlers! Thus far, I think it's really funny, although I should warn people that it also contains depictions of bare breasts.
#Ladies Versus Butlers#Ladies vs. Butlers#anime#anime and manga#anime recommendations#it apparently started off as a light novel

Would love to hear about Gawain and the Green Knight retelling and Sad Bi Astronauts if you are still sharing WIPs!!
Yeah! So, Gawain and the Green Knight retelling is... not exactly fanfic in the sense that I'm approaching it like I would ofic. But the gist is that, due to a friend misremembering how the story goes and thinking that Lord and Lady Bertalik were the same person rather than Lord Bertalik and the Green Knight, I then thought to myself, well, what if they all were the same person, offering to Gawain something like a challenge and a courtship?
I then wondered about the aftermath of the story, when all is revealed, what if Gawain were inclined to accept that bizarre sort of courtship visited upon him, but only if he could set a challenge—if this genderfluid fay could stand to be a regular ordinary guest at King Arthur's court and play along with the ritual there. And it ends up overlapping a bit with the Dame Ragnelle and Pulzella Gaia stories, only there's more gender and queer desire involved. As well as old and new religion, the romantic ideal of Camelot versus the reality, what it means to be insiders and outsiders to a space, and growing beyond your own bounds while still staying true to the core of your identity.
Anyway, this WIP is still mostly outline, though a lot of that outline is quite detailed, but I haven't figured out the details of how it's going to end yet. If I set it down, though, it's probably something I'll see if I can float towards professional publishing rather than AO3. We'll see!
--
Next up, Sad Bi Astronauts is where I'm keeping my Space Brothers rarepairs, which is a hilarious situation to be in when the fandom itself is so tiny and there are hardly any fics at all, let alone depressing queer minor character ones.
There's two WIPs in there right now. One is for Jason Butler/Ronald Cooper, two very closeted astronaut candidates, one the backup for the other and who later drops out of the program due to trauma from a plane crash, wrecking their relationship beyond repair. Seriously—while Jason is a fairly regular minor character, Ronald only shows up in like one episode when we learn more about his backstory. This fic does not end happily for them.
The other is Pico Norton/Vincent Bold, which is the more obvious old-man-yaoi ship in the show. Their whole deal is that they were part of a childhood trio who wanted to go into the space industry, but they lost their friend Rick young to a car accident. They both go on to become a space engineer and astronaut and gain large amounts of baggage over that time. The fic is about them hooking up over the years but always feeling kinda bad about it because there's one of them missing. Sad!
These will get finished eventually, but only because I know there's at least one person in the world interested in reading them, which is my housemate.

This charming book has a small chapter on same-sex relationships and tells of Georgian-period terminology (mostly regarding gay men and women, in that order!) and people of note. What the Georgians got up to is of interest to us here, as Dublin was a Georgian city and of course, the laws made in London during the Georgian period affected Ireland. Therefore, if you could be hanged for "sodomy" in England, you could be strung up in Ireland too.
But the book goes into the nuance of everyday life in the period versus what may be written in the law books. For example, in 1822, the Anglican Bishop of Clogher in Northern Ireland had been caught in the act with a guardsman - the Bishop was dismissed from his position, but from the public's point of view, he became a figure of fun and jokes. And so same-sex activity was "semi-known and semi-secret"; very serious and dangerous on one hand and part of the furniture and a source of amusement on the other.
Another hint at the Georgian's attitude toward queerness is the sheer number of terms used to refer to it! For the gay men we had "mollies", "back-gammon players" and "catamites" (a Classical reference to the mythologically handsome adolescent boy, whose beauty caused Zeus to steal him away to Olympus to serve him). For the lesbians we had "flats", "tommies" and "rubsters". In fact, it is semi-jokingly stated that lesbians did not exist before 1870, because the more euphemistic terms were in use instead!
These terms for same-sex love and identity shows an emergent social awareness for the LGBTQ community in the Georgian era. Albeit mostly for the L and the G!
And of course we know that lesbians existed in Ireland before 1870, just one example being "The Ladies of Llangollen", two upper-class ladies who lived together (with only one bed in the house!) for 50 years. While numerous Georgian ladies lived together as companions, Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby declared their loving relationship openly in upper-class society.
It seems that historical relevance and the holding of a powerful position in society both protected queer Georgians/Anglo-Irish aristocrats from punishment and encouraged historians to record their lives for our historical interests today. Therefore, there are no mention of everyday, "lower-class" Irish queers in this chapter of The Georgians. This is certainly a sad oversight in our LGBTQ+ history. But it's fun to read about 18th and 19th century queer people of note, especially the tommies and "female husbands" who I always picture dressed up like Gentleman Jack!

✨Girlbosstember✨ Official Commentary— Day 2
Good morning, all, and welcome back to this second day of our glorious Girlbosstember! Yesterday’s matches wrapped up as anticipated, with Kimi entering the Quarterfinals of her League by a wide margin and Hestia entering hers by a narrow one. We will see them both return to the polls when we begin the next round.
For today’s matchups, things are sure to get really intense! Every single entrant today garnered more than a 75% rate for nomination during the preliminary round! Up first in the Love League, we have the heated battle between Ace versus Ozeca! Both ladies have purple eyes and know their way around an armory, but that might be where their similarities come to an end. Ace is the itinerant knight younger sister of Pigeon’s Queen, who left her home behind in order to find a way to save her sister’s failing memory and to assist the causes of the light. Her list of badass moments include jumping out of a tower with Nikki in her arms to save her from captivity! Princess, Knight, and perhaps supreme Girlboss? We will see! The other hopeful today is of course Major Ozeca of League Tyr, the main female presence on the Night Ordered. As Nidhogg’s right hand woman, she has faced down the Iron Rose Stylist Legion, has worked alongside the likes of Dr. Gray Raven and his assistant Peachy, and perhaps most heroically, endured the presence of Reid Mercury. Could anyone but a true Girlboss get through all of that with her job intact? You decide! Given that the two contestants were separated by literally one vote in the prelims, this Love League battle is sure to get heated! Ace currently holds a 20% lead, but that could easily change when the full League Tyr Voting Bloc arrives at the polls. Keep an eye on this one for sure!
The Shining League Match for today might be just as divisive! Up today for their first appearances in the polls are Queen Lilith and Yunikina! Queen Lilith is famous for selling her soul to her demon butler to become beloved by all in exchange for never being satisfied. In Shining Nikki she currently reigns as the nearly universally loved Queen of Ninir kingdom—and those voters who are familiar with Love Nikki should also be aware that she is in fact, the woman that they will rename the entire country after. Is that the mark of an ultimate girlboss? Facing her is another figure who becomes a legend in Miraland—Yunikina, the army general who led the Snow Eagle Revolutionary Force. While perhaps not having a country named after her, she founded a legacy legion that carries the torch of her spirit for centuries to come as well as inspiring a Lifetime Crafting suit in both games. It might not be named after her, but North would not be as it is today without Yunikina’s influence. But which of these titans should also be adding ‘true girlboss’ to their list of accomplishments? Only you, the Girlbosstember voters, can decide! Lilith holds a lead following early morning voting, but that could flip at any time!
Stay tuned, and keep voting!

---
A note: I have purposefully excluded the children but not the characters based on IRL people.
The children are excluded because as in real life, they are constantly changing and are more prone to feeling judged by society if we try to bog them down with answering a question with a straight answer versus letting them vibe however they are.
The characters based on IRL people were included because the people they were based on may be queer, we just don't know, we also wont assume. Also because once a character is created, they belong to the public and the public will assign any headcanons to them regardless of what was intended or what is true.
---
Further note: if the point of this post flew past you, its that anyone can be queer, there are no signs, someone may be in closet.
You never know who around is queer, even if they seem to scream "I am not queer" there's always a chance they are, whether they know it or not
And if you as a person, decide to spout off your hatred of anything queer, because you think, "there's no way someone near me is queer", I want you to think again
Because there are many flavors of being queer
And all you're doing by being hateful, is ensuring that when you need help, no one will be around and no one will want to be around
