i think i've finally figured out skincare:
mix heavy moisturizer with several drops of glycerin and put that all over face
add a layer of lanolin over top
and then sometimes
3. add a layer of aquaphor over top
this is basically the only thing that has made my skin feel slightly less dry lately

Just ordered a honey face cleanser so hopefully that works, and if it does I’ll make my own since it’s local honey and kaolin clay

for the amanda marisatomay AMA: as someone who is both mostly unaware of proper skincare but gets the basics and refusing to go through social media or corporate skincare rabbit holes, what do you suggest for a routine? ty and happy new year!
look for fragrance free products (they should have that on their packaging) and start with a hydrating cleanser and a sunscreen (spf 30 or higher). i really like the laroche posay stuff because it’s all really gentle, can be found at drug stores, and aren’t too expensive. if you find that your skin is getting too dry try only washing your face at night or adding a moisturizer at night after you wash your face. above all: less it more and never mix actives (acids, retinols, etc).

What skincare products do you use? What’s your routine?
Ohh this is a fun one! Thanks for asking!
Morning routine:
Wash with either Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser or Versed Keep The Peace (acne calming) depending on what's going on with my skin.
Thayer's Witch Hazel toner
Either Cetaphil or Mary Kay Timewise eye cream
Moisturize with Neutrogena Hydro Boost or Versed Weekend Glow (has Vitamin C). I just got the Versed one and I'm not too crazy about it so I will probably try something different after this or go back to using a Vitamin C serum. I think the one I used to use was No. 9
Evening routine:
Wash with Laroche-Posay Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser
On Sunday and Wednesday I exfoliate with Versed Day Maker Microcrystal Exfoliator (I've had this for a couple weeks and am looooooving it! Makes my skin feel so good)
Moisturize with Versed Recovery Mode Advanced Night Cream but 2x a week I use Olay Regenerist Retionol 24+Peptitde
I also have a jade, quartz and amethyst roller so I will do one of those like 2x a week in the evening. I have no idea if these make a difference but I keep them in the freezer and they feel good 😂
Oh and I don't wear makeup often but if I do I remove it with Elf's makeup removing balm and then follow my normal routine.

I use the anthelios by laroche posay, it's light and liquid and not too oily but you probably heard of it since it's the go-to sunscreen for many
yeah I have and I have used the “dupe” by garnier, it was alright, I need one that doesn’t clock my pores even more than my oily skin already does lmao

I'm no an expert by any means so ive just tried some things my family and friends recommended me. I have pretty clear skin, mostly because I don't wear any skin makeup at all and tend to have break outs when I do. I have the same problem with most sunscreens and I'm still looking for one that works for me and doesn't make me all oily and gross and thats my biggest problem in general. My face also fluctuates between dry and greasy so most products will work on one day but not on the other which is irritating. I'm only in my mid 20's so I haven't tried any retinoids, and when I asked in forums and stuff I saw a lot of my people my age warning away from doing anything too intense to early because they messed up their moisture barrier. I think I'd go to a esthetician/derm before I try anything stronger than a mild exfoliant.
its also low key scary how many really young people are buying these real intense chemical exfoliants because they go viral on TikTok. I read recently that Sweden is banning the sale of certain skincare products to kids because of the risk.
LOL yes same, I have good skin but I also never wear makeup which I think really helps a lot. And, after wearing such a metric shitton of different products, I luckily never get reactions to basically anything, I think the last time something irritated my skin it was years ago, some StriVectin brand thing, and I was like what in the hell could they put in this that it would bother MY skin at this point?!
That super duper sucks about sunscreen though, I know some people are sensitive to the actual active ingredients in sunscreens which can be a nightmare. Sun Bum sunscreen is probably my fave in terms of how it blends out and feels on the skin, but I also like having a moisturized, slightly oily feeling on my skin too, plus it does have fragrance which I love but I know a lot of people are sensitive to. Neutrogena is also a standby for me, but if you're looking for a lighter formula then Korean/Japanese sunscreens are probably the way to go. I recall the Shiseido sunscreen feeling pretty light, but it's stupid expensive so if you want to try it I'd suggest trying to get a sample first. I've heard good things about the LaRoche-Posay Anthelios stuff but haven't tried it, and a lot of people recommend the Cosrx aloe sunscreen but I felt like it was so-so. The next time I try a new brand I'm probably going to go for something from Beauty of Joseon or Isntree, I've heard good things about both.
The exfoliant thing is fucking WILD to me too, like it's completely nonsensical and people legit only like harsh exfoliants because you see immediate results. BUT, you'd be WAY WAY WAY better off using a gentle exfoliant over time and you would literally get the same results, it's just not as noticeable because you're not burning your goddamn face off in a 10 minute time frame.
