I have one to add:

My dad has known I've wanted to be a writer since I was a little kid. He taught me how to use the word processing software on our Windows 95 computer. He would format diskettes he wasn't using and give them to me so I could save my stories on them. He bought me a year old publisher's marketplace book when I was in high school even though I was still not ready to submit anything. Every now and again he asks me if my querying process is going well. He's read only a few of the many things I've written but I know when I get published he will be over the moon for me.

That must have kept him awake all night.
