I freaking LOVE angst! I love brutal stuff, gore with found family and just a smidge of bonding and fluff. Like I live for damaged characters that deserved redemption.
Best example of a muse like that is Lore Soong. The guy deserves so much more than to be erased from literal Star Trek canon.
