Remembered I have this app. Do you ever watch the news, both domestic and the Israel Palestine conflict, and just wonder where the fuck this country is going???? We're literally repeating the 70s. And the 50s. McCarthyism is live and well. They're sending cops and state troopers to colleges where students are just practicing their 1st Amendment rights in a way that ISN'T FUCKING THREATENING (lookin at you, white supremacists), and our government is... *checks notes* banning TikTok and criminalizing homelessness and doing a shit ton of other things that are only hurting everything????

This is going to end, but when? After what toll? My Indigenous coworker was talking the other day about how they and someone else compared what's happening in Palestine to the war on Indigenous nations once the US was colonized. And the potential future they came up with is Palestinians having the current reality of Indigenous people as their future. To witness that again??? To let that happen again???? To perpetuate it AGAIN?!?!?! And what will happen in the US, meanwhile. Like, are they seriously going to fire and arrest every single protestor??? Forget the fall of the US, this is fucking dystopia.

⚠️TRIGGER WARNING⚠️: INCEST MENTION

I don't know if it's sarcasm, but I discovered that some time ago there were people going around saying shit like "childhood friends to lovers is incest". With this post I will dismantle their "arguments":

1- ~"They grew up together and that's what siblings do!"~ Not only siblings grow up together, friends can also grow up together and in fact they are FRIENDS, not siblings. Here is the definition of the word "sibling":

2- ~"For some people friends are like family!"~ This is true, but not everyone has the same experiences or has the same opinion about certain things. Just as there are people who love their friends in the same way they love their family members, in the same way there are people who love their friends only as friends.

3- ~"What about found family then?"~ As I said before, not everyone loves their friends the same way they love their family. If I'm not mistaken, in the case of the "found family" I think we could HYPOTHETICALLY talk about emotional incest, since that from what I understand the members of "found families" love each other as if they were blood-related. I said "hypothetically" because members of "found families" are not related to each other either genetically or legally.

SIDE NOTE: Yes, adoptive siblings fucking each other is incest, even though they are not related by blood. In the eyes of the law they are siblings and were raised as such.

4- ~"This trope makes me uncomfortable because my friends are like family to me!"~ And that's fine. Like I said before, not everyone has the same life experiences, but that doesn't give you the right to label a certain trope as incestuous when it's not just because you don't like it.

That said, learn the true meaning of words before using them. Unfortunately many people have been victims of incest and seeing their trauma mispresented in this way will only trigger them even more.

I think the issue i run in to is i dont have many relaxing hobbies and most of my hobbies use the same areas of my brain as my work so im always trying to use the maximum amount of brain power and won't let it lie fallow or recharge

So fucked up that my internet friends are Way The Hell Over There. Sometimes I’ll think “oh I should bring them this thing/make them this food/go to their thing they’re participating in” and then I Remember. I have no idea where I think they are (because it doesn’t occur to me to offer them a hug or invite them over so I know that they’re far away) but on some level, my brain thinks they’re within walking distance

Examples:

One of them burned their hand and I was getting myself ice from the freezer and I saw my lil ice packs and I thought “oh I could lend them one” no you can’t bro they’re in another state. It’ll be room temperature by the time you’re there

Another will post about their theater performances and I’ll be like “oooh I should go see that” yeah go buy a plane ticket dipshit because it requires a plane ride to get over there! Same with the person who’s organizing protests!

Another one was not doing so hot and I was like “hmm I could make them a grilled cheese when I make myself one” yes you could but they are in another time zone. So. That’s not gonna go well

Idk it’s been happening a lot lately. The human brain wasn’t made to have friends who can’t be accessed by walking/riding a little ways away. How the fuck did ancients have pen pals or family members in other countries? Oh wait, the probably lived in smaller clumps of people who formed tight knit communities so far off friends wasn’t an issue for many of them unless they traveled. Idk for me an affectionate letter isn’t enough, I need to be able to go to your front door and throw stuffed animals at you when you’re sad
