i'm quite late but i still wanted to post this so: here's argentina (angie) and maría remedios del valle (the capitana/mother of the homeland).

i wanted to make these drawings as a sort-of tribute for the 8th of november (aka. the afro-argentines and afro-culture's day, which is in conmemoration to her) because, despite being one of the most forgotten figures in our history, maría remedios was important, more than people realize. and since this is about my hetalia oc (oops-) here's how i vision her influence on argentina, not only as a country but as a woman:

angie saw her as a role figure, almost like a mother in a way, she was the closest thing she would get as a maternal figure. during her independence, angie kept maría remedios close, as they helped eachother and made their way through the war, she tought her how to fight, heal the wounded soldiers and many things.

however, after it was over, they took different paths, angie had other wars to fight and she didn't know anything else about maría remedios until it was too late. it didn't help that all this happened when angie was still very young, as she was growing up, she began to forget. it was only in recent years that maria remedios was beggining to be recognized for who she was, after being forgotten for centuries. argentina forgot about her, just like we argentines did, her people.

i am very aware of what happened to maría remedios and her story, how argentines forgot her and discredited her achievements and efforts (such ignorance being rooted in racism and misoginy). she is just as important as san martín, manuel belgrano and many argentine figures, we must not leave her in oblivion again.

Young Jeremy Bradshaw fanart! (Bridgewater my beloved)

Here’s my latest Bridgewater fanart! I wanted to explore more young!Jeremy Bradshaw; especially as in S2 he mentioned having been tried Wicca when he was younger; so it struck me directly — what if he tried witchcraft overall? And my mind unraveled to that point to now 👌

So let’s first start with young Jeremy, as he admitted to believe, I wanted to show how he tried to explore all the possibilities and I totally see him as a little bit of a rebellious teen as he is still in denial and as he is aching for the come back of Thomas. That’s why he tries to contact him with the pendulum, he wants to believe.

And I thought how Jeremy would express himself in this situation? That’s why I gave him black nail polish, an earring, and you can’t see it much but he has some black eyeshadow, to me it was his way to express himself.

As a way to express himself too, on the picture framed on the left in the red frame, it’s him as a teen with his mother and his step-dad, as I heard in S1 EP01 that Jeremy’s mother said dad to talk about the guy and Jeremy corrected her, I thought about that grudge must have been lasting for a huge while, so that’s why he put a post it and crossed it as well, because he has always refused to replace Thomas in a way, and he looks quite uncomfy on the picture too.

However, another picture is framed: baby Jeremy with Thomas Bradshaw and this one is fully visible. It’s probably one of his only picture with his dad so he cherished it a lot. (My headcanon is that Jeremy had the film camera and took a picture by accident as he was excited to see the camera, and when they developed it they kept the picture as it was too adorable, and I love Jeremy with his one little tooth 🥺🥹)

He also cherishes the letter his dad has written to him for his fifth birthday, so just before his disappearance. As I don’t know if you will be able to read my handwriting here is my transcript:

“Dear Jeremy, Son, l know I promised to be here today, but *scribbled words which are “you know”* work is work sometimes. I’m sorry. You will probably understand later. You have plenty of birthdays to come, so I promise I’ll make it up to you. Take care of your mom ok? Happy 5th birthday, proud of you, x Dad”

Which makes it even more hurtful because he never got to celebrate another birthday with his son. (Yes I suffer, you suffer with me /lh)

For the context of this fanart, I thought it would be in the year 1995, so Jeremy would be 20 years old and it would match. So I then looked for Gameboy games which were out in North America before 1995 because I really like to be accurate, and I put Batman first because it’s a nod to Misha Collins’ role in Gotham Knights as he plays Harvey Dent! (Btw as an other Misha nod, I did the bed blanket pink for the famous pic of Misha with his pink blankie but that’s really anecdotal but that’s what I enjoy). I really wanted Jeremy to have Pokemon Red/Blue but unfortunately, it was out in Japan in 96’ and then 98’ in NA/EUR and import at the time was so-so, but as he likes myths and folklore he would love to catch pocket monsters for sure. (Maybe a next time??)

I put another paper taped to the wall which is just the Bridgewater triangle with the locations of each angles of it, I like to think that Jeremy was trying to find more information on it, that was his way to have a visual reminder of it all.

When it comes to the X-Files… because his t-shirt is some accurate 90s vintage t-shirt X-Files merch with “the truth is out there” written on it (I like details way too much), I think it is time to explain why TXF is so present in my full Bridgewater fanarts (the Big Blue mug reference to Quagmire 3x22 of txf, or even the I Want To Believe poster which is present usually in Mulder’s office ) not only the show is really important to me, but I really found the vibes of it in Bridgewater, and then it struck me, Jeremy had been Scully coded in the beginning of the S1 to then go to a sort of epiphany realising that things might end up real. But I truly don’t think that it stops here, because to me — we come to the headcanons — Jeremy has watched the X-Files as it aired. It started in 1993, he had 17 years old, he was not feeling good, he wanted to believe, who wanted to believe as well? Fox Mulder.

And it’s easy to draw the parallels: Jeremy has lost his father nobody cares anymore and he is only aching as he had been hoping for him to come back, his father disappeared in strange circonstances in the Bridgewater Triangle. Mulder has lost his little sister, Samantha, whom he was persuaded as a kid to have seen getting abducted by aliens, and everybody has lost hope on finding her, it’s easy to assume that Jeremy saw himself in a way in Mulder. Their seek for the truth is important but even when his belief starts to crumble I think he is still attached to the show and starts to find himself in the character of Scully, scientific and down to earth before anything else because it hurts less, and it’s his trauma response. But I think he ends up with the IWTB poster in his house as an adult as no matter what, he still wants to believe into the hope of finding Thomas again although he doesn’t believe it anymore.

For the witchcraft part he also has a tigers eye stone bracelet because it’s supposed to have strong properties of protection, and the pendulum is in amethyst as it’s supposed to bring soothing energy and good vibes — which might be useful to get contact with Thomas.

Then we come to my favourite fanart “plotwist” which I’m super proud of: the incense behind him as it’s burning is spelling “Jeremy?” which is a supposition that his contact with Thomas was indeed working — the veil hum hum cough cough — however he could not see it so not believe it, whereas ironically, the cone incense in front of him was burning normally, so this “séance” not working might have crumbled his beliefs into the supernatural too which put them into more into the rank of myths instead of real tangible possible things (and we can see his interests into myths and folklore already as the three books he has on his shelves are about it!)

Ham X Burr: It's weird. They weren't super close IRL nor in the musical.., plus Burr shot Hamilton. Hamilton talked bad abt Burr. They were not really on good terms... The ship art is cute but I don't really like the ship.

Ham X Eliza: ABSOLUTELY YES YES YES YES. Soulmates 4 life!! I don't think I have to explain this but omg just researching on Hamliza makes me so happy, they were perfect for each other. Ham X Jefferson: Like Burr X Ham, it's weird asf. They were more friendly IRL than in the musical but still, I don't think they'd ever date. Especially not the musical versions... Looking at the art, it's cute, but the ship itself is erm... Besides, the age difference is... Concerning. Thomas is 12-14 years older.

Ham X Laurens: YES. There is enough evidence to support the theory that they had a romantic bond. I've done a whole post on this, but I'll say it again. Hamilton's letters to Laurens were almost as flirtatous as the ones to Eliza (but then again Hamilton was a flirtatious man...) Nevertheless, there's more evidence. I like it, it's cute. It's giving highschool sweethearts, especially cs Hamilton's "romantic affection" died down when he met Eliza.

Ham X Lafayette: No... I know there's this thing called "the Gay trio", with Laurens and them, but really. If you do your research, you'll see that Lafayette referred to Hamilton as a brother. Plus, Lafayette was married to a wife he really loved before he even came to America. He had 2 daughters at that time, his first being born in 1776 and his second in 1777. He came to America in 1777.

Ham X Washington: No. No. No. No. ESPECIALLY the musical versions. Please bffr, they had a father-son relationship. Washington and Hamilton had quite the complicated relationship but Washington was still a father figure to his aide-de-camps, INCLUDING HAMILTON. Plus, Washington was 23-25 years older...

Ham X Hercules: Hercules was 15-17 years older than Hamilton. Alex lived with his family when he came to the colonies, so I'd imagine they had a brotherly relationship or maybe even a father-son bond. (I assume brothers tho)

Laf X Herc: Same with this. Mulligan was 17 years older, and they (from what we know) NEVER EVEN MET IRL... 😭😭 It doesn't make sense. Sure, they met in the musical but we still have the age difference and the fact that they both were married... (Herc married in 1773)

Laf X Peggy: Now, some people say they had a romantic relationship at some point, but I've never found any information about it myself and when asked for it I got ignored..??😭 I only found info about Peggy having smth for this other Frenchman named Marquis Francoise-Louis Teissedre de Fleury. (which can be read in letters)... The only info I have abt Peggy n Laf is tumblr and tiktok, and that's not really reliable... So PLEASE if someone knows FACTS about this, tell me!😭

Laf X Washington: Purely disgusting. Honestly... Washington was 25 years older AND they had a CONFIRMED father-son relationship. Lafayette would literally refer to Washington as his adoptive father, which is proven in letters. Like... They were literally father and son. It's honestly disgusting to ship this. Hypothetically speaking, I feel like they could go well together considering how much Jefferson loved his wife before she died and how Madison loved his wife (my point being that they were lovers, loving ppl).. It's not an impossible ship. Only 8 years apart. I don't know if they showed any romantic attraction or so, I don't really have an opinion on it. You might argue that they were distant cousins, but thats not a valid point when speaking abt the 18th century. It was not totally uncommon to marry a cousin, even if it wasn't always accepted. But, first, let’s take a look at some honorable mentions, as well as some people who were trying too hard:

Rey - 

Of course she is a total BAMF. So, why isn't she on this list? 3 REASONS: 1) She looks like a racist ex that I once dated. How can someone who decided to date you (a black man) be racist? Did y'all see the movie "Get Out"? You didn't know that the story was based off one of my relationships did you? So, yeah, she ain't ever gettin on this list.

2) The force is cheating - their I said it.

3) This last movie sucked. This rap she did didn't help her cause.

Hooded Justice - if only he had been in more episodes. A black man disguising himself in a hood, as well as white, to fight evil in his neighborhood, that the police force (of which he is a part of) refuses to stop. Hell yeah! I love "Watchmen".

12) Greta - 

Say what you will about climate change, but you can't deny her passion and dedication, and how inspiring it is (unless you're Prez Trump or Fox News) to see and hear a kid like her do her thing. I admit that her winning the honor of "Person of the Year" is too much. But, we all wish our kids would be this dedicated to what they believe is positive change. Plus, she has a kickass soundtrack. Gets me hyped every time!

11) Dave Chappelle

Back in the day, comedians used to be brought on stage, tasked with the difficult job of making a room full of different types of people laugh. Now, it's not just about the job of jokes, but you have to do so without offending anyone, and with clean living. When did we start holding a comedian's behavior to a higher standard than we do elected officials? Dave saw this, and kept doing what made him popular anyway. In a world where most comedians are running scared from difficult topics, Dave plunges right in. BAD ASS. 

10) Linda Hamilton - 

Old as bleep! We have what's-her-face here, 

who is kinda badass herself, but despite being a badass cyborg (or whatever the hell she is), she still felt the need to ask for help from Linda bleepin Hamilton. LH traded her Hospice bingo card in for some guns and went to town on some machines! It'd be like if your home was being surrounded by aliens, and despite you having some fire power in your home and 911 at your disposal, everyone's first thought is to call grandma. That'd have to be one BAMF of a granny!

9) Masvidal - 

Allow me to describe this brotha to y'all who might not know.

Some guy was talkin smack to Masvidal, and that guy got kneed in the face by Masvidal (fastest knock out in UFC history = 5 secs). Some guy was arrogant enough to say he was the baddest mofo around, and Masvidal scheduled a fight with this dude for a literal baddest mofo around belt. Plus, that same night of the fight, when he was talking to the media after he had won, he started mocking Conor McGregor, talkin bout Conor don't want none of this. He was talking trash, publicly, about Conor, while people were feeding him pizza. BADASS!

If there is ever a fork in the road, and on one side you see The Rock, Jason Statham, and Will Smith chasing after you, and the other you have Masvidal sitting down, eating a slice of pizza, you had better take your chances with the three action heroes over this BAMF.

8) Nunes - 

If you don't know who she is, I wouldn't be surprised. The UFC botched her marketing before and after she fought and beat (badly) Ronda Rousey - yeah, RONDA ROUSEY; remember her? Nunes pretty much ended her career.

The UFC was so certain that Ronda was going to win, and so shocked when she lost, that they missed an opp to get behind a fighter who is better than Ronda (though mad respect for Ronda), and is currently holding TWO belts (first woman to do so). ALSO, she's the first openly gay UFC champ in history. She's so sweet too! - well, unless you're locked in the octagon with her, then she turns into a werewolf.

7) MANDO

I don't know about you, but all of this talk of teamwork from comic book movies can be a bit tiresome. The Avengers, The Justice League, The X-Men. Everybody wants to form a band. What happened to solo acts? What happened to lone rangers? People may say "There's no I in TEAM." Yeah, that's the prob! What about I?! Sometimes, you're Justin Timberlake, and the rest of the group is simply holding you back. That's Mando. He's Disney's updated (non-racist, unless you’re talkin drones) Lone Ranger. He doesn't need teamwork (maybe a weekly cameo, and a baby tag-along, but that's it!). He has beaten up gangs of robots, burnt people up, taken people out Jason Voorhees style, cut people in half, blown people up, blown off heads, BUT because it's Disney, we haven't seen any of that good stuff. He'd be higher on this list if they gave my man an R-rating.

6) Capt Marvel -

Captain Marvel is definitely the most powerful person on this list. She is probably also the fiercest person on this list. In Endgame, when she saw her black daddy (Nick Fury) on the screen, talkin bout Thanos snapped him away, and then something snapped inside of her, and she said "I'm going to go kill that mofo." The Avengers accompanied her, but I don't think she would have needed their help. She didn't really need their help in the final showdown with Thanos. He threw her aside, but you know she was coming back, until Tony got in her way. She is so fiery that it wouldn't surprise me if in her sequel, she goes back in time in order to rematch Thanos by herself, to prove her dominance. The reason that she's not higher on the list is because she's so damned destructive. She's just like The Hulk in the fact that she shows up to destroy everything. Now, she's a lot more focused than The Hulk, but she's so powerful that she does more damage. And she doesn't have much of a personality (so far), so it's hard to gauge her badassery of attitude, you know?? Like, if you're a villain, and you get in the way of a gorilla, that gorilla will destroy you in a very spectacularly badass way, but... it's a gorilla, you know??

I’M NOT CALLING HER A GORILLA. Don’t go snitching on me to her.

I just don’t know if she’s a hero or simply has anger management issues. Is she badass or too powerful not to do badass things?

Either way, RESPECT... or she'll come for that ass.

5) Iron Man - 

Look, Iron-Man started this shit! Who knows what would have become of the MCU had Robert Downey Jr. blew it. Tony Stark assembled the team (granted, he was partly the reason for the break-up), he gave us Spider-Man (with that suit) (he also gave us Ultron, but let's not get bogged down with details), he held his own against Thanos in "Infinity War",

Dr. Strange thought HIM worthy of saving, and no way time travel would have worked in "Endgame" without him. Plus, in the very end, he out-smarted Thanos, and countered Thanos' one-liner ("I am inevitable.") with his own ("And I... [five minutes later - I swear that's what it felt like] am Iron-Man.").

Paid the ultimate sacrifice. Hell yeah, he's on this list. I felt kinda bad for his wife. After IM3, she was barely around. And when Tony died, she was barely comforted... cuz nobody knew her. Oh, well.. she be aiight.

4) Thanos - 

This dude saw his demise coming, and still went straight ahead towards the foes who cut his head off. BADASS! He was exceptionally crafty in playing The Avengers and blowing up their base. Then, he was just sitting around waiting for the main Avengers (Capt, Iron, and Fat Thor). He wanted to gloat a bit first. BADASS! And had Gamora not betrayed him, and had given him the gaunlet, he would have beaten The Avengers AGAIN!

He even died with a cool pose (he took a knee and got his "Thinking Man" on). BADASS!

3) Arya Stark - 

This young lady scared the bleep out of me. She has my fear AND respect. I was actually scared for whomever her current target was... I was like "Run, fool! She gonna get ya! Damn, Arya, you didn't have to do them like that!"

Now, I know I talked about Ruby Rose being a ridiculous choice for Batwoman, but if Arya Stark left on a voyage to Gotham and became Batwoman, I'd buy that. I can see her killing Bane very slowly. This woman is a frickin psychopath, and I love it. She's fearless! She also went up against the top cheese of the white walkers. Y'all remember that badass move she had at the end!

YES! I only wish she had said something cool when she took him out, like... "You've been Starked." No, that's terrible, but something like that. I wish she was the one sitting on the throne, but they... you know... did what they did.

2) Capt America - 

I think that it's fair to say that Capt America was the rock of The Avengers After the snap, he was the only one to keep his shit together; he actually worked to help others keep their shit together.

Meanwhile, Widow is crying in the dark every night while having a PB sandwich and bourbon dinner. And she just gave up on her hair.

Thor became an alcoholic.

And you could say Hulk was ok, but... was he?

I mean, that ain't right. This is avoidance behavior if I've ever seen it.

But, Capt kept it together. Then, that fight with Thanos at the end was one of, if not THE best one on one fight of the series. Using both Thor weapons, meaning he was both badass on a fighting level and a righteousness level - which ain't easy to accomplish. And when he straped tight his shield in that trailer, and gritted his teeth - hell yeah!

Chills. Capt to Thanos: You motha bleeper"

1) John Wick - 

Three movies with no time in-between to shower, sleep, take a piss, brush his teeth, NOTHING! His life for the last few years (it seems like) has been running, lurking, hiding, beating ass.. and beating ass some more. Lord knows what this dude's kill count is up to. His nickname is "Baba Yaga" Have y'all seen what the actual Baba Yaga looks like?

Terrifying. And yet, not as terrifying as John Wick when he's angry at you.

The amount of endurance and focus that has gone into this long stint of murdering (only fueled by rage and a few shots of bourbon from time to time) is uncanny.

In JW3 he makes a guy eat a book (imagine what must be done to a person's jaw for that to happen), he gets shot, stabbed, hit my two cars (seconds within each other)... Nah, y'all ain't hear me! TWO CARS! The people in the cars were trying to kill him! He fought two super ninjas - like IP Man caliber, he beat up an army of soldiers, crawled through a desert, got shot by a friend who betrayed him, fell off of a building (bouncing around a few times before hitting the pavement), and was somehow still good to schedule a fourth movie after all of that - which I assume will pickup right there.

He doesn't have any superpowers (though you wouldn't know), but his tenacity is to be envied, and outdoes everyone else's on this list.

French and Italian grammar are drastically different (and closer to original Roman Latin) of Portuguese and Spanish (which are also distinct among themselves). It influences phonetics a lot, since French and Italian have a lot of abbreviations that don't appear (only rarely in case of Portuguese) in Iberian languages, and may confuse unaware ears.

French phonetics is different of most of other Latin languages (conserving even some phonemas of late Roman Latin, like the pronounces of "oe", "ai", "au"). The sound of "r" is also distinct (more aspirated). In general, French is the most "nasal" of the Latin languages. "Au" will sound like a strong "o", "ai" like "a" in "fast" (American English) and "oe" like "ö" in German.

Italian phonetics is very influenced by Greek. And unlike the other languages mentioned in the question, plurals are not denoted with "s", but with "i" (male), "e" (female), "a" (neutral). The Latin language with the closest phonetics to Italian's is Romanian/Moldovan. The rolled sound of "r" is also stronger than in the other languages (will sound like "rr" in Spanish). "R" in Portuguese has the same sound as in French, when it starts a word (always) and when it is double in the middle of words.

The sound of "j" in Spanish is like "h" in English, which is unique of this language. In Italian, like in Greek or German, "j" sounds like a soft "y". In Portuguese and French, though, "j" has a sound that Spaniards and Italians have usually a hard time trying to pronounce (which may have come from the Celtic languages spoken in the territories that comprise France and Portugal/Galicia prior to Roman conquest), and sounds much like "Җ" (zh) in Russian.

Nh in Portuguese = Ñ in Spanish = Gn in French/Italian. In Spanish "ñ" 's pronounciation is less emphasized.

Lh in Portuguese = Ll in Spanish = Gli in French/Italian. In most of Hispanic America (except Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay), you will find most of people pronoucing "ll" just like "j" in American English. In Argentina and Uruguay, "ll" will sound like a French "j", due to the strong influence of Southern Italian dialects brought by late 19th/early 20th century's immigrants. In Paraguay, "ll" will be mostly pronounced like in Spain.

In Spanish there is no "v", "z" or "sh" sounds like in English. "V" in Spanish is called "ube" and will mostly sound like a very soft "b", z ("zeta") in Spanish is almost a nasal "s". "S" in the middle of words, in Portuguese, Italian and French, follows the same rules as in English.

The sound of "sh" in English, is made by "ch", and at times "x" (xadrez, xilofone, xenofobia, caixa, relaxado, eixo, mexicano) in Portuguese/French, by "sci" in Italian, and is absent in Spanish. In European Portuguese "sc" will also sound like "sh", at times, but it is also subject to regional accents and dialects of the language. "Ch" in Spanish will sound virtually the same as it sounds in English, and in Italian, it has a phonetic of "k".

The sound of "x": In Portuguese, x will often sound like sh in English (when it starts a word, always), but it may also sound like "ks" in the middle of words (reflexão, circunflexo, axíoma, oxigênio). The sound of "ks" for "x" is a standard to Latin languages (inherited of Greek), but in Spanish it, just like "j", can also have the same pronounce of "h" in English.

"Ç" in Portuguese and French will have the same sound of "z" in Spanish and "ss" in Italian (which is also the same in English). "Ss" is also used in Portuguese and French. In all these languages, "Ss" is never used to start a word (no word in Portuguese will ever start with a “ç” either).

Portuguese has the biggest rank of accents among Latin languages: Á (a stressed and open sound of A), Ã (a nasal sound of A that will be rarely found in any other language. Usually the hardest for foreign Portuguese students), Â (similar to Ã, but softer), À (simbolyzes a double A, and is used exclusively as the feminine of "ao"), É (like "eh", sounds like "e" in the word "best", in American English), Ê (a nasal and stressed form of "e", used to emphasize this vowel in a sylabe), Í (stressed for of "i", sounds like "ee" in English), Ó (open stressed form of "o", sounds like "o" in the American pronounce of "blossom", or "loss", or “å” in Swedish), Ô (nasal sound of "o", sounds like "au" in French), Õ (very nasal form of "o", almost an "u". Usually comes within "es" as a plural form of many words ended in "ão", like "feijão/feijões" [bean/beans], padrão/padrões [standard/standards], mansão/mansões [manor/manors]), Ú (a stressed form of "u", sounding like "oo" in English), Ü (not officialy used since the International Ortographic Agreements of 2009, between Brazil and Portugal. Served for highlighting the sound of "u" in situations in which it would be normally a deaf/auxiliary vowel [basically, when accompanied of q or g before e or i], like "lingüiça, "agüenta" and "aqüífero").

It is almost possible to trace a "sequence of similarities" between Latin languages. If you know one or two of them which are not way too similar (like Portuguese and French, Spanish and Italian, French and Spanish, Italian and Portuguese), you will be able to "deduce" the meaning of many words of the others (at least in written form). Based on the informations above, there are some examples for training your pronounciation (native speakers, please, suggest me any corrections by editing):

The Charlottesville Scouted Calendar — April 2019

Spring has sprung and there’s much to do about town. From the return of the City Market to Historic Virginia Garden Week, to the Tom Tom Festival, wine and fireworks, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. 

APRIL 5

Head out to Early Mountain Vineyards on Friday, April 5 from 7 - 9 pm for "Lounge & Laugh" —  comedy night with visiting comics Steven Tye and Adam Murray. The tasting room will transform into a fun lounge space with light bites and wines for sale. Tickets and more information available here.

APRIL 6

At long last, the Charlottesville City Market — voted #3 farmer’s market in the nation —  returns on Saturday, April 6. Head on downtown for the new hours, from 8 to noon,  to shop from local vendors for produce, fresh baked good, meat, crafts, fresh roasted coffee and so much more. In addition to existing food stalls, new this year there will be line of food trucks along South First Street.  

Come on out for the 6th Annual bow-WOW-Walk & Festival on Saturday, April 6 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. This K-9 2.5K supports the animals and lifesaving programs of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA. The walk and festival are sure to delight both two-legged and four-legged fun-seekers alike. The walk will begin at IX Art Park (four-legged fun-seekers are encouraged) and winds through the downtown mall before returning to IX Art Park for a post-walk festival featuring human and doggie entertainment, canine competitions, treats for pups, and a pack of animal-friendly sponsors. 

Prepare for the Saturday blues when you attend Blues at the IX on April 6, from 3 - 6:30 pm. APRIL 12

On Sunday, April 12 Monticello will mark the 276th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson’s birth with a Founder’s Day and Jefferson’s Birthday Celebration from 9:45 - 11:00 am. This free event will include a ceremony on the West Lawn featuring a keynote address by renowned oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, Sylvia Earle, the 2019 recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Citizen Leadership.

The annual Dogwood Festival Fireworks and BBQ takes on Friday, April 12, with fireworks at 9:00 pm (Rain date: Saturday, April 13). The last shelter near the Little League baseball field will sell pork sandwiches and hots plates for $5. Parking available at Charlottesville High School.

APRIL 14

Returning for a second year, Tom Tom Festival Porchella will take place on Sunday, April 14 from 7-11 pm. This crowd-favorite series of pop-up performances on porches throughout Belmont features some of Charlottesville’s standout acoustic musicians. Start the evening at The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative at 7pm, and check out the on-site screen printer producing collectable event maps. Then, groove along to live tunes while you roam around the block.

Be this as it may,the best authenticated history gives Isaac Meason credit for thefirst production of coke in the Connellsville region. In 181G and 1817he built the first rolling mill erected west of the Allegheny moun-tains, at Ilumsock, Fayette county, and this mill went into opera-tion in September of the latter year.
