Electronics manufacturing trends to pay attention to in years to come
Despite the pandemic-induced economic slowdown, technological advancements played a significant role in the growth of the electronics manufacturing sector. Smarter manufacturing practices have been the biggest driver of this growth. We intend to explore five trendsetting developments in this article today.
Internet of Things The electronics manufacturing industry can leverage the Internet of Things (IoT) for unprecedented growth opportunities. The IoT allows electronic manufacturing units to be digitally connected while storing and processing information without external support. The IoT can improve efficiency, security, cost-effectiveness, and product innovation. Cloud computing, smaller censors, and the growth of the Internet have prompted IoT’s lead in the race of emerging technologies. With everything in place, you can have real-time data at your fingertips to make informed business decisions.
Automation While complete automation in the electronics manufacturing sector is still a distant dream, various automation technologies have made production trouble and error-free. These technological advancements in automation includes smart factories, manufacturing robots, and the smart supply chain management system. These automation systems in conjunction with IoT devices create an efficient manufacturing operation. Innovative supply chain As businesses strive for better products and spend less while doing so, the best way forward is to innovate supply chain management. This trend aims at improving the logistics to revamp the supply chain, which, in turn, can significantly reduce costs in several key areas. This allows electronics manufacturers to be more agile in their operations and thus be more open to fluctuating market demands.
Predictive maintenance Any manufacturing company’s smooth operation is entirely dependent on its types of equipment. Because if they break down the entire operation comes to a halt and so will your revenue generation. However, using AI and IoT data collection, you can accurately identify problem areas before they happen. This helps electronic manufacturers avoid downtime and plan maintenance at a convenient time. Identify a cost-effective manner to conduct repairs and include the same in your budget. A trend like predictive maintenance removes any scope of surprise downtime, thus improving the efficiency of your manufacturing operations.
Organic electronics Organic electronics has become a market rage in recent times owing to its efficiency, low cost, flexibility, lightweight, indissoluble nature, and optical transparency. Additionally, the demand for environmentally friendly production and sustainable development is growing, prompting electronic manufacturers to choose organic electronics. One of the most significant trends in electronics production is the creation of gadgets using biodegradable and recyclable materials or designing circuits with microbial components. The use of organic materials in producing electronic devices also permits the use of safer and readily accessible raw materials. As a result, it gives organizations new business opportunities, while being environmentally responsible.
The electronic manufacturing trends discussed in this article pave a path for smarter, efficient, and cost-effective practices. The use of advanced technology and materials can help you achieve this. Apart from the five trends discussed here, we'd also like to mention printed electronics, Artificial Intelligence, immersive technology, and 3D printing. These evolving technologies only point to a brighter future. For more information on the electronics manufacturing process, get in touch with the experts at Radiant Appliances & Electronics.

Redactober 2024 Day Twelve
Prompt: Dealer's Choice & Diamond
Pairing: Marcus/Love
cw: vent piece, Marcus is that thoughtless motherfucker who's afraid of commitment
"That’s a diamond ring,” Marcus says, muting the tv in the middle of the jeweler’s commercial, on a smiling couple holding hands with the two carat diamond on full display."
Available on AO3 here!
<- Prev Day | Next Day ->
“What’s that?”
“What, on her finger? That’s a diamond ring,” Marcus says, muting the tv in the middle of the jeweler’s commercial, on a smiling couple holding hands with the two carat diamond on full display.
“I can see that,” Love says, watching the screen with rapt attention and a wide, curious green gaze. “What is it for? What is its significance?”
“It’s a… a custom, I’d say? When someone proposes to someone else, asks the other to get married, they ask by getting down on one knee and presenting the ring.” The android hums thoughtfully, the processor in their head whirring as they look down at the unadorned polymer skin of their left hand. “Do you have any other questions, or shall we continue?”
“When will you give me a ring and ask me to marry you?”
“Wh- wha- what brought this on? What led you to this conclusion?” Marcus asks, coughing into his fist to mask his shock.
“Marriage is defined as the legally or formally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship. Colloquially, it is also defined as a commitment, a social and legal promise to be together till death do they part because they love each other.” Love looks up at Marcus standing above them and smiles before taking his hand in theirs to mimic the pair in the commercial. “Or is it my responsibility to get the ring and ask? I might find that difficult, given I lack the funds, but I could find a way.”
“No!” Marcus exclaims, nervously patting the strong hand gripping his own and switching off the tv completely, putting an end to the Culture and Media lessons for the day. “No, you won’t need to do that, Love. As much as I wish I could, we can’t legally get married. You’d need a birth certificate, a social security number, lots of things… It’s not possible.”
“Oh…” The light in the android’s eyes literally dims as they process this new information and attempt to troubleshoot. “Can we have just a wedding then? I’ve seen some that happen without the legal proceedings, that are more informal.”
“We can’t do that either, Love; of course we can’t,” Marcus says, soothingly stroking their synthetic hair and contemplating the image of their mechanical lover in a wedding dress and veil. A quick, startled laugh escapes him due to its absurdity, and Love with their ever present, intense scrutiny does not miss it.
“I don’t understand why that’s funny, why we can’t. We love each other, and people who love each other get married,” they insist, taking his hand from atop their head and intertwining their fingers. Marcus’s joints pop in their inhumanly strong grasp, and Love’s facial recognition software fails to read the wince of pain on his face in favor of looking for the adoration and devotion he once wore without reserve. “When can we stop hiding?”
“Is that what this is about?” Marcus says with a weak laugh, kneeling to kiss their face reassuringly and alleviate some of the tense pull they have on his hands. “We’re not hiding, we’re just… we’re just being smart. The suits above wouldn’t understand, wouldn’t let us be, so for now, only the people who matter know about us, and that’s you and me.” The android’s grip loosens, and the human takes the opportunity to pull them against him in an embrace, pressing more placating kisses into their hair and running a soothing hand down the sensory receptors they put alongside their manufactured spine. “You and me, for better or for worse. We don’t need a certificate or a diamond ring to prove that; we have each other.”

Stepping Backwards a Bit (or 24)
I was looking for a simpler project. My recent 68030 work has been challenging and really pushing the limits of what I can do. I wanted something I could work on, but perhaps where someone else has already worked out the hardest parts.
I find laying out PCBs to be rather relaxing. It's one of those repetitive, almost meditative tasks, like needlepoint or whittling. The kind of hobby where I can turn on some music or a comfortable old TV show, zone out for a few hours, and wake up to this new thing that I created.
Debugging however is very mentally taxing, and the design work required to have a functional schematic to create a PCB for is an active whole-mind prices. So what I really needed was an existing project I could design a board for.
Enter [Grant Searle]. If you're not familiar with [Grant Searle], he has excellent designs for breadboard computers with a very minimal parts count. I studied his minimal Z80 design when I was first starting to build my own computers and learned a lot from it. I highly recommend his work for anyone who is interested in learning how to build their own computer but doesn't know where to start.
I was recently given a Rockwell 6502 CPU pulled from a dead LED marquee. I've never actually worked with 6502, so this seemed like a good time to try building Grant's 8-chip (or 7-chip) 6502 computer.
A few hours later, I had a PCB design completed, gerbers generated, and an order placed. Less than $5 for 5 boards, including shipping. A couple weeks later they arrived in the mail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did end up making a few modifications to [Grant]'s design. Instead of a clock circuit made from a discrete crystal and a couple inverter gates, I used a TTL oscillator because I've always found them to be more reliable. I also added support for an FTDI USB Serial adapter chip so that the board can be used with a modern computer as a terminal. And finally, since a PCB is much harder to add new components to relative to a solderless breadboard, I added an expansion header. All of it wrapped up in a compact PCB with lots of helpful silkscreen marking.
Tumblr media
I realized after I had ordered the PCBs that the 16kB ROM chips [Grant] used are no longer manufactured or readily available. I have plenty of 8kB EEPROM chips on hand however. Thankfully the OSI BASIC interpreter [Grant] ported to this design fits within 8kB, so I was able to make a few adjustments and re-assemble it to work with the ROM chips I have on hand.
After a small glitch with my EEPROM programmer, it works!
Tumblr media
It's quite a change going from my 33MHz+ 68030 to this tiny 6502 running at just under 2MHz. The BASIC text-based Mandelbrot renderer that completes in seconds on my 68030 takes four and a half minutes on the 6502. Not bad at all, considering my bus-impaired 68000 build takes 9 minutes to do the same.
This was a fun little project. It was a nice little break from some of the more difficult projects I've been working on. I have shared the project on GitHub for anyone who might want to take a look.
I hope to have this project with me this weekend, June 14-16, 2024 at Vintage Computer Festival Southwest. I'll be at table 207 in the Tandy Assemble hall, just across the street from the main exhibit hall.
