Sometimes people wonder why I continue to have anything to do with the LDS church, let alone be an active member.
At least one reason is that our Heavenly Parents keep sending queer kids to LDS homes, and those queer kids need someone to tell them they are fully known, deeply loved and eternally valued members of our Heavenly Family. Without exception.

A Quick Thought on Come, Follow Me from the Gospel Living app
“A cycle of wickedness, repentance, and righteousness. With leaders setting an example!
One of the blessings of the scriptures is that they help us learn from other people’s mistakes.
Seeing hundreds of years of Jaredite history in a few chapters makes it easy to spot the lessons: Generally speaking, when the kings are righteous, the people prosper. When the kings are wicked, the people suffer.
It would appear that many Jaredites followed their king’s example—for either good or bad. Some of the kings may have been religious leaders, too, which would have made their personal unrighteousness even more damaging.”
We are seeing this all over the world. Some world leaders say they follow Christ while making policies that go against Christ’s teachings and they are publicly living their lives in ways Christ warned us against. They are acting as world leaders and religious leaders while living in wickedness.
The most important thing we can do is to personally follow Christ. We can try to elect righteous leaders, but the only thing we can truly control is ourselves. Love radically as Christ loved. Follow Christ’s Gospel, not someone’s interpretation of His teachings.

Gladys Knight joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1997. If anyone is familiar with a black member of the Church, it's usually her.
My favorite story about her comes from my husband. He served his mission in Las Vegas, where she was living at the time, and ended up getting assigned to her ward. One of the assignments the missionaries had at the time was to cut costs to the mission by finding living arrangements with members of the Church wherever possible. He was serving in her ward and was present in the ward council meeting when they brought up the need to find a source of cheaper, safe housing.
Without missing a beat, she chimed in helpfully with, "I'll just buy them a house." To which she was met with a loving, yet exasperated "Sister McDowell, you can't do that."
He said she was incredibly nice and would do anything to take care of the missionaries.
If you didn't know she had a choir for a time that was doing gospel music inspired by African and African American traditions, those albums are worth every penny. I have both of them and they're my favorite worship music I own.

The Eternal Dreamer: An Epic of Hope and Restoration
Tumblr media
Elara stood beneath a fractured sky, her gaze fixed on the Shattered Spire—a monument to humanity's fall, jagged and foreboding against the horizon. The cataclysm had broken more than stone and sky; it had severed the connection to the Spirit, leaving the world in a shadow of despair. Yet within Elara burned a spark of defiance, a yearning to uncover the truth buried in the shards of history.
Tumblr media
The elders spoke in reverent tones of a golden age before the Fall, when harmony reigned, and the Spirit flowed freely. But Elara, ever questioning, sensed a deeper narrative. Their nostalgia glossed over cracks that had always been there, seeds of discord that had grown unchecked. Among their tales, one thread stood out—a prophecy of the Eternal Dreamer, a savior who would restore balance and mend the fractured world.
youtube
Elara immersed herself in forgotten archives, deciphering cryptic verses and piecing together fragments of lost wisdom. She unearthed tales of Ze Li On, a luminary figure whose essence bridged light and renewal, and of the Rain—a celestial gift symbolizing cleansing and rebirth. But her relentless pursuit of knowledge drew the ire of the Keepers of the Faith.
youtube
Led by Kaelan, a cunning manipulator cloaked in piety, the Keepers branded Elara a heretic. To Kaelan, the prophecy was not a path to salvation but a tool to consolidate power, to bend the masses to his will. Determined to silence her, the Keepers drove Elara into exile.
youtube
In the hidden valleys beyond their reach, Elara found allies among the outcasts and dreamers. Jax, a battle-worn warrior with a heart tempered by loss, Lyra, a healer whose touch restored more than flesh, and Kai, a young scholar armed with ancient knowledge, became her steadfast companions. Together, they embarked on a treacherous journey to the Shattered Spire, the epicenter of the cataclysm and the key to unlocking the prophecy.
Tumblr media
Their path was fraught with danger. They faced the relentless pursuit of the Keepers, braved landscapes twisted by corruption, and fought beasts born of the world's brokenness. Yet through every trial, Elara's belief in the Spirit's renewal never wavered. She saw the Rain not as a mere storm but as a divine essence capable of washing away despair and healing the world.
Tumblr media
At last, they reached the Spire’s heart, a place heavy with the weight of forgotten power. Kaelan awaited them, his ambition fully realized. He had tapped into the Spire’s dark energy, twisting it to his will. The ensuing battle was a tempest of light and shadow, a clash between Kaelan’s greed-fueled darkness and Elara’s unyielding hope.
Tumblr media
Kaelan’s might seemed insurmountable, but Elara, drawing strength from the prophecy and the unity of her companions, called upon the Spirit’s cry—a surge of radiant energy that shattered the Spire’s corruption. Kaelan, stripped of his power, fell into the void, his schemes undone.
Tumblr media
With the battle won, the Rain descended. It was not mere water but a luminous torrent of renewal. The earth drank deeply of its essence, the skies healed, and the corruption melted away. A new dawn broke, soft and golden, as the land began to heal.
youtube
In the aftermath, the prophecy came to life. The eternal feast—an endless flow of wisdom and grace—spread across the land. The New Jerusalem rose, a beacon of harmony and light, where freedom and justice reigned. Humanity, once fractured, stood united in the Spirit's embrace.
Tumblr media
Elara, the Eternal Dreamer, had fulfilled the ancient promise. She became a symbol of hope, a reminder that even in the darkest times, the light of truth and resilience could prevail. As the world awakened to its restoration, her name was etched into the annals of history—a testament to the power of dreams and the enduring spirit of those who dare to chase them.

Responding to Michelle Grim and Life After Ministry's Post "LDS: Jesus Prophesied of Joseph Smith"
ABSTRACT: In a recent post on Life After Ministry, Michelle Grim critiques Joseph Smith’s prophetic role and foreordination in the Restoration of the Gospel, referencing biblical passages such as 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 and Matthew 24:24. Grim questions the validity of Joseph Smith’s prophetic claims, suggesting that Jesus’ warnings about false prophets apply to him. She challenges readers to…

I have to conduct young woman's today in church but I don't want to.... I never fit in with any of the girls and I feel like most of them don't like me. it doesn't help that I moved here at the beginning of junior high when everyone already had their cliques and I was the "weird kid" (always was and always will be). My interests are so different from theirs that it's really hard to find common ground between us to talk about. Most of the girls are into sports and boys and talk about nothing else, meanwhile I'm into cosplay and writing (also boys, but I like girls, too and bringing that up with the church is not a great idea). The one other girl who no one was really friends with is my best friend in this neighborhood and she's in relief society and leaving for a mission in a few years

It was a 50/50 vote (between 2 people), so I just chose. This week's Hot Take is about Missionary Work
What is Missionary Work? Why do we do it? These are all important questions, so I'm going to give my completely unasked for opinion. Because that's what this series is all about, giving my opinions, and creating a forum for (civil) debate
The purpose of Missionaries is, no more or less, than to declare the Gospel, and give people the opportunity to make Covenants
This is why I had such an issue with how my Mission (& others) were run, specifically when it comes to Numbers. I think Numbers shouldn't be a part of missionary work at all, as it then makes it not about teaching the Gospel, but reaching a quota. It's even worse when Numbers become an issue of Faith & Righteousness. I loved my Mission, but the rhetoric about Numbers made me sick to my stomach (there was a GA who came to our Mission every January to tell us for 6 hours straight our only focus is reaching our numbers). This might make you ask "how do you know Missionaries are actually working." 2 words: Area Book. It's completely Digital now (at least on the Idaho Falls mission). So, why can't they switch from numbers to accurate Area Book reports
On Service Missions- I have massive respect for all Service Missionaries. I was about to transfer to one when I was sent home. But Service Missionaries are there to give Service, so I'm not a fan that they're now required to teach. That implies that Teaching Missions are the only way to preach the Gospel, which is not true. In fact, living the gospel is infinitely better than teaching, because they can see what living it entails (instead of just hearing it)
Members- Missionary Work is our job. In my Mission, the majority of work was focused on Member Work & Social Media work. This is because the best way to teach isn't to have people who are very clearly trying to sell them something knocking on their doors, but friends genuinely sharing an important part of their lives
But, we can't be manipulative. We can't develop friendships, just to break them off if they stop going, or decide not to join. That's love-bombing, not actual friendship. And thankfully, it's not common in my home & mission wards, but they had to put it in PmG for a reason. If they don't accept the Gospel, then we shouldn't push, because relationships are the core of the Gospel. We should always see the person, and not the convert. We should share the Gospel because we want others to feel the joy we do (at least give them the opportunity to), not because we have to

Five years ago, President Nelson recommended we start referring to our church by it’s full name, de-emphasizing the use of ‘Mormon’ as a nickname. This struck a number of members as incongruous. The full name of the church is quite a mouthful (Pres. Nelson recommends “Church of Jesus Christ” as an alternative). Also, we were just coming off the famous ‘Meet the Mormons’ movie and a whole series of ‘I’m a Mormon’ videos. These media efforts helped to showcase real members and our diversity and humanness as part of breaking down harmful stereotypes (exacerbated by the new Book of Mormon musical’s parody/highlighting of our cultural problems). So people were a bit taken aback and naturally confused, and some began using compliance with this directive as a measuring stick to determine if their neighbor was really, truly ‘following the prophet’ (because, hey, we do have our cultural problems with focusing on what actually matters).
I used to be in the ‘Mormon describes me and my culture and I’m used to it and will keep using it’ camp. But I think I am changing my tune, and here’s why: Almost everything I dislike about my church is culture-based. The actual doctrine is pretty awesome, very world-class, and I will hold it up against anything.
And maybe it isn’t a bad idea for church leaders and church members to keep repeating the name of Jesus Christ on a regular basis as a gentle reminder for us to keep moving away from the outward culture to the inward gospel and the change of heart we all need as disciples of Christ.

Micah Wilder, former zealous mormon, turned protestant discusses the differences of the teachings of the Latter Day Saints compared the true and Biblical Gospel.
I really appreciate Micah Wilder's ministry. His work has encouraged me to share the Gospel to others with compassion, truth, and urgency. To share the truth is crucial.
