Donation Totals
On January 9th, a fundraiser for the California Fire Foundation was started. The first goal of $1180 was reached in six hours! The second goal of $2170 was reached four hour later. The final goal of $3350 was met two days from the start of the fundraiser! That's pretty incredible, if you ask me!
The final total on GoFundMe for the California Fire Foundation is $5050.00.
The total for other organizations donated to is $1362.86. Some of the other organizations include American Red Cross, LAFD Foundation, MaskBlocLA, and World Central Kitchen.
Our combined, overall total is $6412.86!
Thank you all for donating, liking and reblogging posts, or sharing information on other sites 😊 I am so proud of our fandom! Look out for a poll to be posted tomorrow, where everyone will have a chance to decide who we raise funds for in February. 🎈

Hey all! The wildfires in Los Angeles have been absolutely devastating over the last few days. I live in LA, but am very fortunate to have not needed to evacuate. I want to support the fire relief in any way I can, so if you hold like to commission me or just spread the word I will be donating 100% of commission to the LAFD Foundation. (SupportLAFD.org)
Please also consider donating directly to them to help them in their efforts to save our city.

If we do another fundraiser event, perhaps we could consider something for relief efforts from the LA fires?
I’ve been asked by a lot of people to set up an emergency fundraiser for the fires and I think I’ve got my pitch down.
“As many have no doubt heard: the 2025 budget for the LAFD was slashed by over $17 million, and the LAFD already spends around 97% of its yearly budget on personal costs, which is why the LAFD Foundation exists to help provide equipment. As we continue to get news of the growing Palisades Fire, the LAFD continues its fight. As a fandom of a show based on the adventures of a fictionalized LAFD, a lot of us feel the urge to help anyway we can so, in the spirit of our fandom community, let’s band together to help the real life heroes of the LAFD fight back against this disaster.”
But I need a little time to work out details of how we can do this a little less chaotically than my #AllIWantForChristmasIsLou campaign, so give me a little time to sort that out please.

Southern California is still on fire and we need your help
Today, it is January 10th, 2025.
In good news, the the Sunset fire is now considered inactive and all evacuations have been reversed. It only grew to 60 acres at it's peak. The Hurst fire has shrunk to over 700 acres and is now 37% contained. The Lidia fire is still at over 300 acres but it is now 75% contained.
Sadly, that is all the good news I have. The Palisades fire has grown to over 20,000 acres with 6% containment. The Eaton fire has grown to over 13,000 acres. To put the sheer size of these fires into perspective, Manhattan has an area of 14,604 acres.
Tragically, 10 people have lost their lives.
At 2:43 PM, a fire known as the Kenneth fire started near the Woodland Hills area. It is 1,000 acres and is 35% contained as of writing. Sadly, this fire appears to have started due to an arson attack. Police currently have the suspect in custody after neighbors performed a citizen's arrest.
This morning, CBS conducted an exclusive interview with LAFD Fire Chief Kristin Crowley where it was revealed that Crowley warned LA Mayor Karen Bass that budget cuts would hamper the LAFD's ability to handle fire emergencies. Crowley confirmed that the city defunded LAFD by $17.6 million, which included a $7 million decrease in overtime pay.
THE EATON FIRE
The Palisades fire has received the most attention from mainstream media after celebrities and high profile Angelenos evacuated the region. Pacific Palisades is considered to be the most sought after real estate in the country as it sits on the Pacific Coast Highway between Santa Monica and Malibu. We now need to shift our attention to the Eaton fire.
The Eaton fire started on Thursday, January 8th, near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive in the Altadena area. The city primarily affected by this fire is Altadena, home to over 40,000 people and is a mere 4 miles (6 kilometers) away from Pasadena. As of writing, it has burned to over 13,000 acres, has destroyed over 5,000 homes, with 0% containment.
Altadena has a large population of working and middle class families, particularly black families, whose families have lived in the region for generations. During the Great Migration of the 1900s, many black people fled to Altadena to escape the Jim Crow South. Octavia Butler, the world renowned author of Parable of the South, was from Altadena. As these Eaton fire continues to destroy the city, California is losing it's black history.
Do-Not-Drink Water alerts have been issued in Pasadena and Eaton Canyon as the Eaton fire has destroyed and contaminated the water pipes in the region as firefighters continue to fight the fires.
If you're able, please consider donating to the Gofundmes of Black families who have been impacted by the Eaton fires.
Please also consider donation to those have been effected in Eaton Canyon.
WAYS YOU CAN HELP
The Los Angeles Times has shared organizations that you can donate to included the California Fire Foundation. If you're in Southern California, this list also include mutual aid organizations where you can donate materials directly.
If you would like to directly donate to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation which will go towards emergency shelters, hydration backpacks, and wildland brush tools, you can do so here.
If you're in Southern California, please use the MALAN Fire and Wind Storm Resources spreadsheet to find mutual aid organizations near you and find places where you can donate or volunteer.
Finally, if you still have a Twitter account, please routinely check the app for Gofundmes from families who have been affected by the fires. Most Gofundmes are not listed on spreadsheets or official websites yet and many families are sharing them on Twitter. I found multiple has I was working on this post but I know for a fact there are more: (here), (here), (here), (here), (here), (here), (here), and (here).
Please continue to keep Southern California in your hearts. As the days pass, it has become increasingly clear that the damage being done by these fires is more than we can comprehend. Drone footage shows that Palisades has practically disappeared. It's now being estimated that these fires have done over $50 billion in damages.
Once these fires subside, Los Angeles County will never be the same again. Please continue to support us as we try to heal our wounded home.

That's the thing though bc there would be portions ga who aren't here for the queer storylines are good with buck and hen have queer partners chase those partners aren't mains and so it's sort if a out of sight out of mind things but if you have 3 of the 5 mains as queer (not that more representation isn't good) it becomes a queer show and that would put more people off that it would join bc a lot of the fandom has a fundamental misunderstanding of the bulk of the audience that brings in the ratings
I agree with you ! I'm also gonna use this to bounce off of to talk about how having Buck and Eddie together would change the dynamic within the firehouse which I would say is probably one of the top reasons many people watch this show for. Whether you watch more for the emergencies or the personal moments, the dynamic between the team is the foundation to making those part work as well as they do. Changing this could affect ratings.
Rest under the cut because it got way too long
First, it's very unlikely that in the real LAFD that Eddie and Buck could work on the same shift. There would be a conflict of interest there, as much as everyone should be professional, there is always that chance that they may in times of distress priotise their romantic partner and not on the job. It's like in medicine. For example, it is against most policies to carry out any kind of procedure, examination, or consultion on a family member. Having them seen by a non related professional reduces the chance of bias, thus reducing the chance of harm or exploitation. Having them on the same team could also mean that they bring home life disputes into work, which distracting them and going on to cause harm to civilians, co-workers, or themselves. While yes, 911 is not a perfect example of the real world, I don't think this is something they would necessarily forgo. It's fun in fanfics to have it explained as okay by mysterious paperwork, but irl and in the show, it would not happen this way. (I do understand that in ls Nancy and Mateo are together while in the same firehouse, but they are also under different captains and work in different teams. As such they spend much less time together in comparison to what Buck and Eddie would be doing as they do not exclusively work on the same team and will be going on different calls and in different vehicles compared to Buck and Eddie, who work on the same team and also go to scenes in the same vehicle).
Having two main characters who are within the same team would also mess with the balance of the show. Obviously, bathena are both main characters, but they do not both work for the same service and also arguably the main characters of 911, so they will get more screen time and focus as they bring in the GA audience. Eddie and Buck are both within the fire service, and Eddie is also the bottom billed main. The focus would be off, and with how some fans see it, they want the focus to be on their relationship, ignoring that they are not the main draw of the show and thus turn away GA. The show would not feel quite right as more of the firehouse scenes may feel like there is a focus on those two rather than the whole team, and tbh I wouldn't want that. Also, realistically, as they would be likely working the same shift (in the world the shippers want), they would be around each other a lot. That would put strain on any relationship and also parenting Chris (which I will not go into as i am not a parent myself so do not understand all the nuances of it but as a child of a parents who had to work longer hours and spent time in both breakfast and afterschool clubs its hard to not be able to spend that much time with them and also increases the cost of childcare, once my dad got into teaching summers and breaks were a lot more fun because he was around more. Tldr it would be hard on chris to not be able to see both guardians for long periods if they both worked on the same shifts). Holidays all together would be hard as it is likely harder for both of them to get time off at the same time. There would be a lot of strain and stress in that relationship, of course people could make it work but as Eddie has been shown to struggle to communicate issues that would make it harder to work through issues before they turn into serious problems and Buck also has his own issues when it comes to relationships and would likely burn himself out trying to make sure the relationship worked and likely struggling with abandonedment issues etc.
I think a lot of this would lead to not fun drama to watch on the show or it would have to be handwaved away to make it all work. I wouldn't want that, and I doubt the GA would either. They don't watch the show for Buck and Eddie. I think the change in dynamics would turn away people from the show and would definitely turn away the less tolerant people. The GA also, like Tommy and Buck together they have had a good response to that, so why would they throw it away for a part of the online fandom. Buck and Tommy will be here to stay for a little while due to that alone and I think many people now (including the GA) want to see Buck settled down in a long term relationship and to see Eddie get a partner that he can settle down with, without breaking up Buck and Tommy.
It's amazing how many queer stories and characters we have gotten in 911, and while yes, I would love and be accepting of more, I don't think Eddie will be one of them.

Anon recced the Rewrite Series on ao3, written by ProsperDemeter. Buck was more than happy to make a bookmark out of dried yellow roses and sunflowers for it!
The series contains the following works:
glue
buck/eddie | teen and up | 85.5k words
A month away from graduating the LAFD Academy, Evan Buckley gets introduced to new recruit Eddie Diaz and things certainly change for both of them after that. -- Another season one rewrite.
stuck
buck/eddie | teen and up | 166.3k words
It's been two months since we last left off and both Buck and Eddie are in for an adventure as they navigate being in a not-relationship (situationship, if you ask Buck) and working together at the same fire station. -- Or, the season two rewrite.
collision
buck/eddie | teen and up | 173.3k words
After the truck bombing the dynamics change as Buck learns that some trauma can't be outrun and Eddie learns that some betrayals are just waiting for the right moment to come to light. Or, we rewrite season three.
watermark
buck/eddie | teen and up | 212.9k words
“I’ve got you.” Eddie walked him backwards, a hand careful on the bow of his back to help him stay steady while Buck wasn’t looking where he was stepping. “Our kid’s happy and healthy.” He shrugged. “For once, our world doesn’t feel like it’s on the brink of disaster.” Eddie chuckled and Buck answered it with a quiet laugh of his own. “I love you,” Eddie told him seriously. “And I want to make sure you know how much I love you.” “Come on, Eddie,” Buck softened, his fingers stroking a careful pattern into the tiny end pieces of his hair. “I know how much you love me.” -- Another season four rewrite.
foundation
buck/eddie | teen and up | 2/10 chapters. WIP
Eddie's healed from being shot, but he's not really healed, is he, when he keeps forgetting he's not in Afghanistan. Buck's still healing too, though it's easier when Eddie's working at dispatch instead of in the field. The boys are engaged, they've got a wedding to plan and family to grow closer to. It's season five... let's see just how strong these foundations are.
Thanks for stopping by Buck & Eddie's flowershop. I hope you enjoy the dried flowers bookmark! Have a nice say!

If you're looking for ways to support folks affected by fires in the Los Angeles area, I have a list of good organizations as well as master lists of GoFundMes and other fundraisers in the latest edition of my newsletter.
I'll put some links below as well. Please note that I am not connected to these organizations or those collecting & collating GoFundMe fundraisers. Please see the individual lists for how to add your information if needed.
Donate to individuals:
Donate to help Black families who have been displaced
Donate to help Latino families who have been displaced
Donate to the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns’ Bayanihan Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Program

Note: receiving GoFundMe and other fundraising moneys can potentially impact how much FEMA will support folks. If you need to fundraise, here’s more on that.
If you live in the area, you can learn more about how to get involved to help through the Mutual Aid LA Network or LA Fire Mutual Aid Resources (which also has info on where there are free meals, shelter, wifi, and charging for those in need).
If you are disabled and impacted by wildfires and need help — or know someone who is in this position — you/they can call or text the Disability and Disaster Hotline at 800-626-4959 or email them at [email protected]. You can also seek help from the Independent Living Centers in your area, whose contact information you can find here.
If you want to help the incarcerated firefighters, you can do so by donating to the Anti-Recidivism Coalition and putting “firefighter fund” in the notes section.
