Maven (2020)

Maven is a reminiscent of 1950's mid century glam chair with a little bit of a twist. Its copper “socks” will remind of Lövbacken or Lövet coffee table from IKEA which happens to be manufactured in the 70's.

With an additional touch of modern colors, Maven is a perfect suit for contemporary café or bistro. Seat is engineered to be knock down for easier maintenance as well as replacement if any damages occurred when used. It is intended for both domestic & public use, and made from eco-friendly paint which could come in any color spectrum desired by customers or interior designers. The rubber feet is equipped specifically for hard-floor where the chair is most likely placed & used. Maven comes in two options, with or without the armrest. Offering flexibility to opt between comfort and space availability. Armless version is simply a trimmed version of the armrest one, with the front leg is placed under the seat for space-saving.

The draft playing pieces

I had a concept for the players of the game to actually build their pieces, with the parts coming in a flat-pack style to really tie into the IKEA aesthetic, but with the amount of time I have on this project, this may not be feasible.

An idea that popped into my head for the playing pieces, was to have them resemble some icon IKEA products. I asked a few people what they considered to be iconic and I did my best to quickly recreate these in cardboard form for the draft board.

I created the POÄNG (armchair), FAMNIG HJÄRTA (heart cushion), KALLAX (shelf unit), and LÖVBACKEN (side table).

The pieces actually turned out to be large as the cardboard I was using wasn’t of amazing quality.
