What you taught was your dream quickly ended. You rarely talked about what you wanted to do in the future and that included talking to Kyujin about it. However when you and Kyujin both joined JYP you pretty much were sure that your life goal of being an idol will become real, and it sort of did. Yes the struggles of being a trainee were real and you did always double guess if being an idol was worth it.

It was something you wanted, but not always. Unfortunately your dreams were crushed after getting a major injury during 2020, you were devastated of course. Your best friend, Kyujin, did hope you would return but instead you didnt. You decided that it would be best that you just support Kyujin behind the screens.

When you heard that Kyujin would be debuting in a group (at that time JYPn) you were excited. You were the first person Kyujin texted to let you know about the news and of course you were excited!

When it did come to her and the groups debut you were even more excited, being there for their debut song ‘O.O’ release. Then if suddenly, she stopped contacting you. Maybe it was just because shes an idol and cant give you the time she could when she was a trainee. Yes, you were still supporting Kyujin but now more all members, however you still were wondering why she hasnt texted you. At the same time maybe it was because of the massive amount of hate they were getting which you never understood why that even happened. Its not if the hate affected the members, its that they indeed did.

As if somebody at JYP knew you suddenly received an invite to visit the members. You did suspect that it was a fake invite afterall, a massive and rich company invites you to meet the members? It just seemed impossible, nonetheless you visited them the next week.

Entering the building you showed them the letter and then you were sent to the practice room; “NMIXX Practice Room”

The person opened the door for you and saw only one person there. Maybe he accidentally led you to the, but no. It didnt seem like it.

“Hey?” You said trying to get the other persons attention

“Hey” It was Kyujin. You should have known. No one would invite you to meet NMIXX suddenly if it wasnt someone who knew you. That person was Kyujin.

“I should have known” You said

“I missed you” Kyujin said before hugging you “I really am sorry for-”

“Its fine.” Kyujin said “Im just glad you are still by my side, even if you arent a trainee or an idol im just…glad really. I couldnt be happier right now”

“Thank you” You said

“You should probably go” Kyujin whispered

Walking back home you couldnt forget how beautiful she looked. Yes, you always found her adorable and complimented her, today was something different. The next couple of months you did start to text her more and more often and she was also quick to respond too!

Whenever a comeback was announced you were quick to give her the support she needs. At the same time you were feeling sort of…guilty? You were supportive of Kyujin which you didnt mind, but only her, while you had the chance to always meet all of the members.

“Then lets meet them” Kyujin said before leading you out of the practice room

“Wait, now?” You asked

The ride to the dorm wasnt really that long, either because you were lost in thoughts or the traffic was a lot less today. However when you did arrive at the dorm you were nervous, the members know about you, so it really shouldnt be this awkward but it is.

“Hello?” Kyujin said entering the dorm “Alright either they are asleep or-”

“Hey” Haewon said

“Oh hey” Kyujin said “This is-”

“Hey Y/n” Haewon greeted herself

“Kyujin told me about you” Haewon said

Kyujin for some reason felt jealous, it wasnt because you already met Haewon and you were close to her, but it rather was because she seriously wanted you to be with her. Kyujin knows that its not because she has feelings, afterall you are her best friend it wouldnt make sense at all.

“Oh you are finally here” Lily said

“We waited for you!” Jiwoo said

“You did?” You asked

“Yes” Bae answered

“Well to be fair Kyujin talked about you for like a month straight, so we decided to suggest the idea of her inviting you” Haewon said

“Well that makes more sense” You said

“Hey wheres Kyujin by the way?” Haewon asked “She was with you, but didnt come with us in the living room”

“No idea” You said As if on cue, Kyujin walked in. The moment she walked in you knew something happened, but you didnt want to mention it.

“Oh hey” You said

“Sup” Kyujin said, still trying to be cheerful, however that didnt work when you knew why she isnt that happy.

“Yeah” You answered before following Kyujin out of the living room.

“Everything okay?” You asked

“No.” Kyujin answered “Why are you so close to her?”

“I cant be?” You asked “Are you jealous?”

“What?” Kyujin said

“Are you jealous?” You asked the same question again

“No, obviously not.” Kyujin answered

“Then, why are you wondering why im close to Haewon?” You asked

“I…dont know.” Kyujin said

“Then it shouldnt be a problem, should it?” You asked

“It shouldnt.” Kyujin answered

“Good.” You said before going back to the living room.

Of course you didnt really believe her, you knew she was jealous, she also knew she was jealous. It was really just a matter of time when Kyujin will admit it, but for now she wont.

The next couple of days were kinda annoying for Kyujin, she was always thinking about you. She knew she had to do something about it but didnt know what.

“You are in love, Kyujin.” Haewon said

In the end all of this was just a date for you two. Kyujin knew, the members knew but you didnt.

You couldnt be happier right now, Kyujin also couldnt. The next day waking up you had her in your arms, your relationship is still new so you forgot for a moment that shes your girlfriend, not best friend. Sleeping on the couch in the living room together with Kyujin was a bad idea, as anyone could walk.

When you woke up in the morning, you tried to look for your phone but gave up and checked Kyujin’s phone instead it was 7am. You tried your best to not look at her notifications, they were mostly from other social media and then, ‘NMIXX’. “No you arent.” You said

Breaking news to Sullyoon was different, you called her down with the thought of breaking the news. However when she came down you were surprised.

“Hey” Sullyoon said

“Congrats first of all” Sullyoon said “Second of all tell me!”

“Maybe” Sullyoon said

“How did you confess?” Sullyoon asked

“Yeah i get it” You said “But…im happy that we are dating!”

“Best of luck” Sullyoon said before hugging you

Afterall breaking the news wasnt as difficult as you thought it would be. However after you went away, you knew Kyujin would get sad and miss you a ton.

“Hey” Kyujin responded quietly

At the end of the day, you did get the picture with the members which you were really glad about as well as you hoped that Kyujin had the best birthday, yet and she of course did!

The morning Shift - Hybrid AU

Hello there! Before the next part of the Aespa Au and the TripleS fic(still deciding which members), I wanted to drop this work of mine. I don't if the Hybrid AU is something my public is interested in, but I still wanted to give It a try. So let me know if you liked this and if you want more❤️

Can someone be employee of the month and the same time the biggest problem of the workplace? I know it sounds absurd, but it's the truth. One first hypothesis would be a case of nepotism: someone working there just because a parent or a friend is a top name of that agency; but no, it was not definitely your case. You really love this job and anything related to it. You always give all yourself, making the biggest effort to always execute your duty in the best and most correct way. But let's take one step at a time: what even is your job?

The answer is technically very easy: you work in a shelter, just not a normal one; the one where you are employeed takes care of hybrids, half-animal, half-human. Said in this way someone could believe we are talking about centaurs or mermaids, but they are not that mythical. Let's take in example the race you working with, the cat-hybrid race: they are basically normal people with few animals features like tails or cat ears. The rest of their "being hybrid" is really showed in their behaviour and antics, rather than in their body. I'm sure a description of a typical work shift of yours will be enough to make anyone understand.

Your routine starts kinda early in the morning: at 7 a.m. you arrive at the shelter, still kinda sleepy and groggy. Luckily you are immediately welcomed by one of the guests of the building. Two long arms takes you in a soft embrace, keeping you close from snuggling against your chest. "Good morning, Sakura, already out of your room today?", you asked, giggling, while kindly stroking her hair, making her cat hair move in response out of excitement. "Mmh, good morning. Yes, I felt like I had sleep enough tonight", she mumbled against your body, eyes closed in relax. You knew very well that she was lying: Sakura was very affectionate towards you and she had nightmares when you were not there for the night shift. You kinda solved the problem spraying her cushion with your perfume, but still her sleep was not the best; so her way to compensate that was literally waiting for you behind the entrance door. She had a very calm personality overall, so the staff of the place just let her be. "I see. Should we go wake up your roommate?", you proposed patting her head. Kkura just nooded and let you, starting to follow you really close from behind.

Despite this initial moment, Sakura was very mature and she rarely let herself go to these affectionate moments, especially in front of other guests. She often help you with your duties and kinda keeps everyone in check, so it's not easy to see her softer side, maybe the only one, except you, who know the japanese so well was her roommate and best friend. "Goooood morning, babyyyyyy", a loud and high voice shouted, someone jumping with so much strenght at you to send you on the floor. "Chae, be careful, you're hurting our caretaker", Sakura scolded her younger friend, crossing her arms. "Don't worry, she didn't hurt me, she just needs her morning cuddles", you reassured, hiding the pain with a big smile and focusing on scratching the forehead of Chae, making her cutely growls in satisfaction, her tail moving quickly. Chaewon story was particular: in fact despite she arrived in your shelter by mistake, because she was not a cat hybrid like all the others, but a cheetah hybrid. It was kinda a common mistake when they are young, but she was in fact different. At the start she was very aggressive and she didn't trust anyone, so she was about to be sent away...then you tried to get closer. You have always been kind and sweet, even when she was showing her worst behaviour, even hurting you, but you already knew that she was not bad, just very scared. And you were right: in no time she got very affectionate to you and also kinda protective. Not a single scratch would have appeared on your body under sight...well, except the ones caused by her cuddles.

After being held down by the blondie until her her cuddles hunger was satisfied, you slowly got up, helped by Sakura."Well, you already know at this point, I have to go to check the others", you explained, trying to go out of the door; however a pouting Chae was helding your hand to not let you go, her cheetah ears down. Even the mature Sakura was not completely enthusiast of the idea of you not being with them. "Oh, come on, don't make those faces, you're gonna break my heart. We're gonna see again in like 15 minutes. Breakfast, do you remember?", you reassured them, instantly bringing their smiles back and their ears up. You don't get how this scene repeats itself at every morning shift, but you could tell the separation anxiety was real for them, probably later they would asked for more of your attentions. However this sounded like a problem for your future self. You directed towards the next room, you knocked, asking for the permission to go inside. A soft "come in" was received as answer.

Opening the door, such a mesmerizing sight was waiting for you: this long figure was sat under the window, reading a book in silence. Her pale skin shining under the light of the sun, her long black hair almost covering her cat ears and falling on her shoulder, her black tail hidden between her legs. "Here you are, you are some minutes late today", she made you notice smiling elegantly, before closing her book and and shift her gaze towards your face. She gently patted the spot next to her, signaling that she wanted you close to her. Mina is not the biggest yapper between the guest, but you know her well enough to always understand perfectly her body language and her intentions. "You don't miss a thing, uh? I feel like I'm the one under your control", you joke, sitting next to her, your arm brushing against your skin. "I'm just very careful with things I like", she smirked before placing her head on your shoulder and humming softly. Yeah, Mina thought about you as her stuff, it was not rare for cat hybrids to be possessive, but it was quite surprising from the most introverted between the guest. You two just stayed her, enjoying each other company and the fresh wind entering from the window.

"Where's the baby?", you asked suddendly after few minutes. The cozy atmposhere created thanks to Mina almost made you forget that it was also the room of someone else with a very different vibe. "Oh, probably right now she's playing with Ka-", Mina' sentence was interrupted when someone thrown herself over you two, squeezing both of you in a pressing hug. "Oof-, I wish I could have your energies in the morning, Kyujin", you sighed, gently patting the back of the youngest guest, that was being lively and energetic as her usual. "But you have the whole me instead, isn't it even better?", the young girl replied, affectionately rubbing her head against your neck, enjoying the warmth feeling. Mina gave you an apologetic look, but you just shrugged and shaked your head to reassure her that everything was fine. It was your idea to put the calmest and the most chaotic catgirls together in the same room, and so far Mina had made a great job in taking care of Kyujin; and on the contrary, the youngest was the right person to energize the soft girl, given that often she would just lay and don't socialize at all. "You're lucky you're a cutie or I would have scolded you", you said, sitting up and caressing the ears of a purring Kyujin. "I don't believe you a tiny bit: you're too kind to scold me", she chuckled, making you roll your eyes back playfully. But she wasn't wrong tho, you rarely get mad at them and maybe that was the reason you go along with all of them.

"Come on, baby, let the caretaker go: we have to get ready for breakfast too", Mina said softly, caressing the hair of the younger girl. "Oow, fine. See you later then", she nodded, listening well to Mina words. You gave both of them few more pats before heading out. The positive side of the morning shift is that there are only few guests to take care of, just six to be precise; many others are going to wake up just for lunch and even after. At this point there are just two girls missing to check up and to call for eating all together; however even before reaching their room, you met one of them in the hallway: she was at the exact center of the passage, standing and staring at you, her tail moving left and right uncontrollably. "Karina, what are you doing here?", you asked, walking towards her, stopping just at few steps away from her. "I smelled your scent, so I just ran in your direction", she explained proudly, a silly smile printed on her face, her pupils basically taking the shape of a heart while looking at you; Karina was with no doubts the worst at hiding her feelings. "Good job, I was coming to you anyway, so you made my life more simple in this way, good girl", you praised her, scratching her chin, making her melt in your touch. If before her tail was already moving without control, now it was going totally crazy. She was so lost in the moment that she didn't even realize when she let out a loud meow, that echoed in the hallway. "I love when you call me a good girl", she admitted, beaming in your vision. "Then keep being one and wait for me and the others in the kitchen, alright?", you winked at her, making her heartbeat rise. She quickly nodded and then ran as fast as she can towards the kitchen, leaving you amused.

After seeing Karina disappear at the end of the corridor, you kept going your way, till reaching the final room: the door was open but you still need to get prepared for it. "I'm coming in, Irene", you warned from outside, but you got no response. You stretched your neck, took a big breath and finally went in. The moment you put your foot inside the room, you could feel her gaze penetrating your soul, a cold smile used like a mask. She silently got up and started walking in a circle around you. "Why am I always the last that you greet at morning?", she inquired, her eyes judging you. "Always is a big word, it's just something that happens sometimes", you chuckled nervously, trying to not fold under her gaze. "Mmh, is that so? Are you not avoiding me?", she shoot her next question, this time stopping and taking your hand in yours. You were not lying honestly, it simply was that her room was the most distant from the entrance of the building. "Yes, Irene, I assure you. You know that I care about you", you tried to convince her about your sincerity. Irene cold smile seemed to turn into a softer one...and yet, she still decided to take a bite of your hand. It was nothing too strong or dangerous, just painful enough to remind you she was not fooling around. "Ouch, why? I'm being honest", you yelped in pain, confused by her act. "I know, but I'm still pissed at you for being the last", a hint of cuteness in her voice, before licking the spot where she bit you.

You waited until Irene finished to medicate the wound that she made herself. Irene was the oldest of the bunch, she was also older than you, so for her it was natural to see you as someone to take care of, even if her jealousy attacks were the biggest threats for you at work. Being on Irene bad side meant to have an hard time everyday, luckily it was not your case: she seemed interested into you since your first day of work. Your kind ways to interact with everyone quickly made Irene have a soft spot for you. "All done, you're like new. Now let's go eat or I'll take another chomp from you", she teased you playfully, licking her own lips. "Alright, let's go, I bet they are waiting for us in th-", you tried to lead the way, but you felt Irene body remaining still; you looked at her, once more confused. "Today I don't feel like walking", she said with a sly smile. You knew exactly what she had in mind, being the oldest didn't mean acting like it in Irene vocabulary. You gave her your back and squatted: immediately Irene got up on your back, putting her arms around your neck to keep her balance and using your body as a pillow for her head. With Irene on your back, you finally went for kitchen, ready to give a start to the day of the shelter.

Now, as everyone can see, you are perfect for this job: you're kind and understanding, you know how to behave with every girl, and the guests love you and listen to you well. Of course you are the employee of the month...since months. Then what is the deal? Why are you the biggest problem of your workplace? Well, the girls love you too much! They are so affectionate towards you that they don't want to get adopted and leave the place. But honestly in a world where the hybrids are not accepted by everyone being so different from "normal people", the boss is just satisfied of how happy the guests are in the shelter. Everything changed in College. With the beginning of the first year of college starting you didn't expect anything apart from you practically only being close to Haewon as she chose the same major as you, wanting to be the supportive friend she was. While waiting for the professor to come in, you were talking to Haewon about anything to fill the time in, that was until someone arrived in the class.

While waiting you were thinking where to even go with her, however at the same time you sort of knew that Bae would have decided and planned everything already.

When the time rolled around she finally texted you the place to meet at. You quickly got ready and went out.

“Hey, i'm glad you ended up coming” Bae said

“I wouldn't say no to you!” You said “So…i sort of didn't plan anything”

“And that's fine because i did” Bae said “Just follow me”

And you did, Bae led you quite far to the point you thought that she might be leading you to a place where anything could happen but after a bit of walking you finally reached a beautiful view of a river, even with the sun that was slowly setting it made the scenery even more beautiful.

You and Bae continued to talk, Bae mostly talked about her life, dreams and the future and you listened. Even with Haewon, who's your childhood friend didn't make you open up this fast and easily, but with Bae it was a lot easier and safer.

After what felt like hours Bae stood up.

“So. This was a fun night” Bae said

“It really was” You said “So are we friends now?”

Both of you said your final goodbyes and went to your places. All of this talk left you with a lot of thoughts but the most important one probably was that you and Bae were friends now. Something you deemed impossible just a couple of years ago.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months you started getting closer and closer to Bae. Haewon noticed especially how close you had gotten to Bae and she seriously felt happy as Bae was the person you wanted to be friends with and now that you are, she felt happy for you.

Everything felt awesome and for good reasons.

You, Bae and Haewon were all walking after a long day at College, Bae and Haewon did the most talking as you just listened occasionally listening and also speaking up but mostly listening. It didn't take long for Bae to arrive at her house.

“It was nice talking to you two” Bae said

“Oh and another thing” Bae said before giving you a kiss on the cheek “Bye!” She quickly ran off to her house leaving you wondering what just happened.

It wasn't anything you didn't expect, Bae usually gave you a hug before finally ending the day between you and her but this time? This time it was a lot different.

It wasnt that you and her were alone there, it wasn't, Haewon was also with you and saw the whole scene. She hesitated for a moment before answering but she did speak up to break the awkward silence.

“Well that was interesting” Haewon spoke finally breaking the silence

“Didn't know you two were at that stage already” Haewon said

“We aren't” You said

“Yeah right, then why do you look as if someone dropped a surprise party on you?” Haewon teased

“But why would she do that? She never does it, apart from just jokes but…” You said

“You and Bae are so cute, it hurts sometimes” Haewon said

“How so?” You asked

“Well, you two know that you are finally friends and are really close and she is really talkative with you, she smiles whenever she looks at you or whenever you talk.” Haewon said “And the way she just turned to you, kissed you and ran away? That is definitely something.”

“I guess but it's just out of nowhere, no?” You asked

“Of course it is.” Haewon said “Look, talk it out with Bae tomorrow”

“Yeah. I will.” You said before saying your final goodbyes to Haewon.

And that's what you did, the next day you and Haewon arrived a bit earlier than expected but you didn't care all you wanted and needed was to talk to Bae. After what felt like hours Bae finally arrived.

“You are happier than usual” Haewon said

“I am?” Bae said “I guess I'm just in a good mood today!”

“That's great to hear” Haewon said

"Hey" You said

"I'm sorry about yesterday it was just something i was dared to do" Bae said

"By who?" You asked

"Not a problem now is it?" Bae said before going past you and Haewon to her own friend group. Haewon looked at you for a brief moment before speaking up

“A dare.” Haewon said “Who am I to figure out the thing between you two, right?”

“Did you notice how she-” You said

“Dont worry about it, Y/n” Haewon said “Talk to her later”

The day passed with you distracted, your thoughts frequently drifting back to Bae and the kiss that had set off some sort of an alert of emotions. When the day finally ended, you decided to just go to Bae.

“Hey” You said

“Oh hey!” Bae said “You usually wait for me outside”

“I know, but i want to talk to you” You said, Bae knew what you wanted to talk about.

“Yeah” Bae said “Go on then.”

“Was it really a dare? I just don't understand why you did that…i hope that kiss doesn't ruin our friendship” You said

“It wont, but it was sort of a dare and more of me wanting to kiss you” Bae said “Of course i couldn't kiss you on the lips, but well i hope you understand”

“Do you have feelings for me?” You asked

“Y/n, I do. This friendship made my feelings come back but i don't want to hide them anymore” Bae said

“This is a lot” You said “I also have feelings for you”

“You do?” Bae asked to which you nodded.

“Is this where we are at now?” You asked

“We are dating. Girlfriends.” Bae said

“Oh my god!” You said excitedly

“Now that that's settled, how about I finally do what I wanted yesterday?” Bae said before pulling you behind the building where usually no one walks. Bae pushed you against the wall of the building before kissing you.

Bae's lips were warm against yours, and the world seemed to blur around you, leaving just the two of you in that hidden spot. The kiss was soft at first, tentative as if she was afraid you might pull away. But when you didn't, when you kissed her back with the same urgency, she deepened it. Her hands rested on your waist, pulling you closer.

When she pulled away, both of you were out of breath. There was a short silence before Bae spoke up.

“What would Haewon think?” Bae asked

“I don't know” You said “But i'm so happy to be with you”

“Me too.”
