Sasaku Kusuriyubi at Nucleus Portland.

Currently on view at Nucleus Portland in Portland, Oregon are works by artist Sasaku Kusuriyubi.

A painter based in Wakayama, Japan, Kusuriyubi was born in the countryside overlooking the mountains, the sea, and many small life forms. The insects, fish, and animals around her live in a world of life and death without being aware of each other as individuals. At some point, their unconscious activities became a symbol of freedom and equality. This relationship has affirmed that the artist, too, is an individual creature. Kusuriyubi’s paintings depict a sense of freedom.
