I feel like no one is acknowledging the fact that technically Kuroko Tetsuya's ancestor (Kurokono Tasuke) fought with Gintoki and the Joui 4 in the Rebel War.

the gintama collab in knb street rivals is so funny especially since gintama had a kuroko no basket episode where gintoki remembers his old friend kurokono tasuke (also voiced by kensho ono) who faded in history after The War but before that he and all of their friends would play games together

im so excited 10/10, I will be pulling for gintoki and adding him to my basketball team

(The last one I swear) Top 10 Gintaka moments
Arranged chronologically because it was too difficult to choose. Spoilers ahead.
1. Boke and tsukkomi
Tumblr media
We get another glimpse into their relationship during the Shouka Sonjuku days through a memory of Zura. Gintoki appears annoyed about only fighting against Takasugi, though the latter reveals he is ahead 57-56, which means that in a short period they had already fought more than 100 times. This implies that, as the years went by, their duels became a little less frequent. But what is really interesting and adorable here is the way Takasugi acts as Gintoki's tsukkomi and playfully scolds him (ch. 563).
2. Kick the can
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At Kurokono Tasuke's suggestion, they decide to play basketball kick the can. Although it is later revealed that Gintoki and Takasugi intended to counterattack the enemy the whole time, they were clearly engrossed in the game, as evidenced by the fact that they put small bushes on their heads to camouflage. This seems to be a tactic they learned from their teacher, considering Zura did it as well. Despite everything, he notices that Gintoki and Takasugi seem more enthusiastic about competing against each other to see who is the first to launch a surprise attack on the can rather than the actual war (ch. 453).
3. Naivety and embarrassment
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Around a campfire, Gintoki discusses the course of the war with Sakamoto and Zura and whether they would eventually become imperial forces if their side won. Aside from this being the only occasion where Gintoki thought about a future for himself beyond rescuing Shouyo, Takasugi mocks the idea as naive. This scene appears to be after the one where they made their promise, because Takasugi is aware that Gintoki doesn't fight for the country or for fame, but for their teacher. Thus, with great confidence, he asserts that they know what they are doing and that is enough. However, the way he says it irritates Gintoki, who then proceeds to tease him about the name of the Kiheitai, followed by some insinuations that Sakamoto quickly picks up on and joins in (ch. 633).
4. Him or me
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the events with the Ikeda family, it is revealed that Takasugi and Nobu Nobu are behind the scenes. The latter notices Takasugi's hostility towards him, so he reassures him that he never intended to go after what he calls his prey, Gintoki. Upon hearing this, Takasugi quickly changes his demeanor to a more relaxed and confident one, asserting that he would not be able to take any of their heads. Before leaving, he threatens him that if he changes his mind, either Gintoki or he himself will finish him off. This is not only another occasion where Takasugi becomes upset when others talk about Gintoki in front of him, but it also shows how, even at this point and before their confrontation, he still felt some camaraderie and understanding towards Gintoki (ch. 468).
5. Lingering feelings
Tumblr media
Gintoki didn't only become emotional in his final fight against Takasugi when he had to attack his possessed body. In their first real confrontation, there is a direct parallel between Gintoki's face before being forced to kill Shouyo and his face before cutting Takasugi. They had already been fighting for a while, but this shows that at this moment Gintoki was already on the verge of tears. He didn't want to do it, but if someone was going to stop Takasugi, it had to be him. Arguably, this is the first time it is shown how much Gintoki still loves and cares for Takasugi even after all this time and everything that has happened (ch. 519).
6. Only me
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Takasugi asks Shinpachi not to let anyone else take Gintoki's head because only he can do it, which adds to other occasions where one speaks possessively about the other. But this time it is because there are still unresolved matters between them, so Takasugi asks, in his own way, that he survives, just as Gintoki asked him 10 years ago when they made their promise during the war (ch. 575).
7. Believe in him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Hijikata interrogates Gintoki, he fills in the gaps regarding what happened with the Tendoushuu and how all the information points to Takasugi conspiring with the enemy. Despite this, Gintoki tries to defend him, highlighting the fact that Takasugi helped them two years ago and has no reason to ally with the Tendoushuu, to which Hijikata insists that Takasugi is the type to prioritize goals over the means to achieve them. Still, Gintoki refuses to speak and betray Takasugi in any way, prompting Hijikata to question his loyalty and if the reason he insists on protecting Takasugi is because he still believes in him while being interrupted by Robozaki (ch. 674).
8. Underwater fight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Gintoki is at his limit, surrounded by a group of assassins, a boat with explosives arrives to save him, which is revealed to have been sent by Takasugi. Gintoki doesn't miss the opportunity to tease him, calling him "mastermind" or "Hikusugi-kun," a wordplay referring to his height, and teases him about his lingering affection for the Kiheitai, the latter provoking an offensive response from him. They bicker some more before they are attacked and thrown into the water, where they fight against their enemies while also fighting each other (ch. 677).
9. Shitty brat & crazy hoodlum
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is one of the most peaceful scenes that occurs between them since they reunited. Here they are not fighting each other or anyone else, but simply talking while walking, another glimpse of how their relationship used to be. They clearly look comfortable next to each other, smiling and joking, showing how happy they are to be together, although neither of them would admit it (ch. 683).
10. Go back
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On multiple occasions during the final arc, Takasugi tried to convince Gintoki, both gently and harshly, to return to the Yorozuya and his loved ones in Edo. This shows how selfless his love for Gintoki was, that even if his heart was divided because he wanted to be by his side, at the same time what Takasugi most desired was for Gintoki to be happy, with the tragedy that he wasn't really aware that he was part of Gintoki's happiness (chs. 673, 677, 683, 690, 699, 703).

They say Gintoki has a terrible memory, but he was the one who remembered Kurokono Tasuke, a man with so little presence he was nearly invisible.
Maybe the problem isn't that his memory is bad. Maybe it's just too good and he remembers everything much too well...

My favourite thing about the Gintama Kurokono Tasuke episode is above all else the implication that Takasugi is so tender as to remember the guy who's only purpose in existence is to not be remembered. Like he still knows his name. Takasugi's underlings went "oh his old war friend uh....shounen jump sports manga parody?" Because he had his name on record for them to make that assumption with despite the fact he left the war effort so early

Hello there! For the mini event may you please do gintama with the au avatar the last airbender, thank you!
Hello there, my lovely anon! I definitely can do that - I really couldn't come up with solid ideas, so I admit to taking the lazy way out, so have a pretty comprehensive list on what type of Benders everyone would be in this AU! And guys, there are so many characters in Gintama so I swear it wasn't as easy and lazy as it looks! Thanks for sending in a request and I hope you'll enjoy!
Okay, so we're going into this AU with there being the four major bending types - Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Each bending type is as it is portrayed in Avatar: The Last Airbender, with people possessing different degrees of bending and different skills being present within each bending type.
So, when considering which type of Bender each character would be, I kind of broke it down into personality types and traits and qualities to look for, based on what I figure the 'stereotypical' Bender is for each of the four.
Earth Benders are a little rough around the edges, slow to anger, slow to decide on things, but stubborn once their mind is made up. They can be sensitive and they are often very patient.
Air Benders are gentle souls, respectful and adaptable, changeable. They're fast, both in their movements and in their thoughts.
Water Benders are typically calm and easy-going, flexible enough to adapt to their companions or situations. They're often quite easy to talk to and rather content with their lives.
Fire Benders are often prideful and confident individuals who are loyal, determined and ambitious. They can be very playful and fun but they often also have very short fuses on their tempers, which can be very volatile and explosive.
Keeping that in mind, this is what I figure the characters would be for Benders.

Gintama Stills for Every (Canon) Episode → [271/316] “Arriving Late to a Reunion Makes it Hard to Enter”
↳ “KK: In the Joui War, an era when every man fought for his country, when every man was a hero, the ones who survived through sheer devil's luck and left their names in the history books were... Shiroyasha, Sakata Gintoki. The Rampaging Noble, Katsura Kotarou. The Kiheitai Commander, Takasugi Shinsuke. The Loud Fellow, Sakamoto Tatsuma.
ST: That's weird! One of those is not like the others!
KK: These four men would later come to be known as the 'Generation of Miracles.’
SG: I don't remember ever being called that!”

So, we all agree Kurokono Tasuke condition is unkown right?
....or maybe we don’t, but it’s a valid take, right? I saw the Reunion Arc again (I love this arc!!) and every time I see it I end up feeling different about Kurokono Tasuke being alive or dead by the end.
I believed it was supposed to remain ambiguous, but I see a lot of wikis posting him as alive, and ok?, I mean, it is a valid interpretation that Kurokono is alive, somehow found out what the Kihetai was doing and appeared to help at the most crucial moment, but it is also a valid interpretation that it was his spirit. It really sounded ominious the ‘ before I turn into a real demon’ line and is fitting of an story of people pretending to be a ghost to be confronted with the real deal.
(of course in that case it  would mean that GIntoki was actually talking with a dead Kurokono in the dream/memory, which wouldn’t be surprising, you can interpret that scene as Kurokono having survived and later parting ways, or you could see it as Kurokono spirit saying a final goodbye to Gintoki, the fact that it appears that GIntoki was sleeping under a tree and he could be still sleeping and just dreaming of Kurokono, the ‘I am always by your side’ of Kurokono can be seen as  a parting soul  words too)
And all that without taking into account that is has been established that Gintoki can see ghost somewhat, AND we have had  a ghost playing ‘kick-the-can’in the story before (Zenzou’s dad).
Of course there’s a lot of points to think he is alive, like if Takasugi and he were friends, doesn’t it sound probable he knew the plan Takasugi had to blown up the temple beforehand? (of course in the version he dies the tragedy is that his lack of presence made Takasugi overlook him). And the demon line could be just him being a badass, and in the flashback he was telling Gintoki  that he was leaving and he was alive and it was a normal goodbye.
To this we can counter that is strange that Matako seems so surprised he is here, as if she is seeing a ghost, so she does believe he’s dead, and Takasugi doesn’t seem the type to lie like that. But also, they may just assummed he was dead, (Takasugi might  have not been clear in that aspect) and Kurokono as a shadow could be able to discover he was needed and assist his formed comrades.
One of the strongest points to the theory he survived was Katsura basketball story, because  this event where he hears him  is  held after the war, and the idea of ‘let’s play basketball to lift up people spiritrs’ has the same sentiment of  ‘let’s play kick the can to lift up people spirits’, it may well have been Kurokono who suggested the idea (of course, basket), but also, maybe the similarities to what Kurokono situation is what made Katsura subconsious picture Kurokono there even if he wasn’t there (the one who passes the pokari could be interpreted to be Tatsuma, or another person, and the actual factuallity of this memory is disputable, at least is not recently after the war, both Zura and Sakamoto seem too old, almost the same as the main series (or the same?), so it was a lot closer to the present, so it is either a Joi/Kaientai reunion or the ‘ease the tropes’ is bullshit and these two went to have fun, or is imaginary) ). Or he could have appeared there, to see old friends, and be alive.
At the end we see Gintoki with two Pokari’s, and that could both mean that Kurokono appeared and they talked together, or that Gin decided to dedicate one to Kurokono spirit (or, being that Gintokki can somentimes see ghosts, maybe Kurokono's spirit sat down with him, but I see this one less probable)
Katsura and Sakamoto not remembering a thing is probably because of the sleeping gas, but it can also be because of ghost interferance (or both things).
I personally think the ambiguiity is on purpose, and it could be read either way, and I like the episode for that, so I don’t know, I made this post because I saw the wiki saying he’s alive, and well, if sorachi stated he was aiive somewhere then my bad, but. l think is more up to interpretation.  Did I overthink this? Quite possibly,  so thanks for reading my take on it.

Countdown to the new chapter of Gintama...Day -3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 10 Most Momentous Moments (for me) in Lessons 401 - 500:
In order of appearance, not importance. Both the Dekobokko and Soul-Switch Arcs were within this batch of chapters. Do you understand how freaking DIFFICULT it was for me to not just choose all my moments from those arcs???
Tumblr media
1) Personally I think this was one of the best Star Wars parody: funny, informative, heart-breaking and sad at the same time.
Tumblr media
2) The beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Tumblr media
3) I wanted this to be a serious duel so damn bad, but it was still one of the most exciting clashes in the series...for the few seconds when it was serious.
Tumblr media
4) This arc. This moment. Genius.
Tumblr media
5) I thought, what are the chances that our Shinsengumi boys would be a part of this amazing arc, probably from minimal to none, and then THIS happened and suddenly life was truly amazing and I fell in love with Gintama all over again.
Tumblr media
6) I am STILL waiting for our elusive phantom fifth man to reappear by our Joui boys’ side.
Tumblr media
7) ONLY OKITA REALIZED KAGURA WAS FAKING IT. This meant so much to me as an OkiKagu-shipper.
Tumblr media
8) I mean...do I really even need to explain why???? I am still living off this Christmas/Birthday/New Year/every single special occasion gift to this day.
Tumblr media
9) I really thought GinTsu was endgame, was resigned to it, but then this moment happened and it was like suddenly, I had hope again. Gave me the idea that perhaps Sorachi-sama might just be leaving the door cracked open for other options, even if it’s only in our imaginations. And really, that’s all I can ever ask for.
Tumblr media
10) Couple of hundred of chapters later, we are suddenly introduced to the esteemed third unit captain of the Shinsengumi, as if he’s always been there throughout the years but we just never noticed him.
Because it’s Christmas, a special Ships Tally for my top 3 Ginta OTPs from Lessons 401 - 500:
Gintoki x Hijikata: Love
Tumblr media
Okita x Kagura: Love
Tumblr media
Kondou x Otae: Love
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just so freaking amazing.  It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s generosity that I can enjoy Gintama on yet another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.
Hope everyone had a happy Christmas!!

You know who I’d love to see make a return appearance to save the day somewhere in the Silver Soul arc?
Kurokono Tasuke.
For the sake of his old Joui comrades (and the country, of course).

Yakult toast!
So... I forgot Takasugi’s birthday, started this the next day and procrastinated to finish it until today (that's why it's black and white, although it didn't help at all keep adding characters xd) Joui+ Kiheitai because they're the most important people to Takasugi (Bansai is ALIVE I know it ;-;) about that...
