Chic antique summer kimono with kotoji (koto bridge) and kumihimo (breaded cords) over akikusa (autumn plants) calm blue ground.
I wonder if the cords over the 絽 ro fabric (a type of open weave used for summer items) is supposed to mimic misu (bamboo blinds):

Two more kumihimo, this time from a gorgeous sunflowery yarn by @craft_by_bella 😁 They have specially dyed some of this yarn for me so I can make some crochet works for my Sunflower & Citrus Collection. There are two as I have kumihimo’d one with random colour and the other by lining up the gradient across all eight threads. I have plans to play with more patterns 😁 I might be slightly kumihimo crazy at the moment 😁

The process of trying a new craft: the Japanese technique of kumihimo using human hair, more commonly referred to as Victorian hair work. This craft became widely popular during the Victorian period and is a fascinating art form to most modern sensibilities.

Japanese Kumihimo Noodles
"Okado Somen" from Toyama Prefecture is made using traditional methods that have been passed down for over 170 years since the Edo period, when the noodle-making techniques were passed down as a purveyor to the Kaga Domain . It is a high-quality hand-stretched somen noodle made by hand by artisans.
The dried noodles produced using the techniques of Daimon Somen are called " Kumihimo ."
Tumblr media
Skilled craftsmen carefully knead high-quality wheat flour with the famous waters of the Shogawa River, let it mature, and then repeatedly roll the noodles into lovely flower shapes.
Although the noodles have a beautiful and delicate appearance, they are characterized by their firmness and silky smooth texture.

Kumihimo braid #2 progress pic. Same pattern, different colors.
And shoutout to the woman in my fiber arts guild who found out I am getting into kumihimo, and have me all her threads, her patterns, and some braids she made. She took classes in the 1980s and hasn't used her materials in a while, so was excited to give everything to me.

Forgiveness [Part 1]
Next>>  Comic Catalog>>
We are taught growing up that we should forgive all those that hurt us. This is not true. You do not have to forgive everyone. At the end of the day.... forgiveness is for you. It is the act of letting something go so you can move forward in you life. It is also for you so that you can forgive yourself and continue on. This was a hard comic to make. For a variety of reasons and for how controversial it might be. I'm not here to preach how you should live your life or even in the context why you should forgive characters like Kamado. There so many layers to this comic that will come back because the main point of this comic is to identify what Lani has ultimately chosen something.

So I've been using my triple latch hooks to make eyecord, then using that eyecord to make kumihimo necklaces, which are now up on my etsy! Take a gander if you please

Did I teach myself how to make a kumihimo braid just because I started watching My Happy Marriage today?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes. Yes, I did. It's thin and not the same pattern or exact colors, but for what I had on hand, it's not terrible for a first try. The method is surprisingly simple, just 8 steps repeated again and again.

I cut the disc out of cardboard. I had to change the numbers to match the diagram (pen is the final arrangement).
Here is the finished design! I lost it at work so I'll have to make a new one...

I'm learning kumihimo!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My marudai is very non-traditional. I'm not even 100% it's a marudai, but it definitely works! There isn't a well, but the lip around the central hole serves to raise the threads and I think serves the same purpose.
But I really don't know what the bottom platform is for.
Anyway -- the warping was so fast! I just used some DMC 6 strand floss I had lying around. Winding the bobbins took a little time. Getting used to"flipping" the threads when moving bobbins was somewhat tricky. I also want to hang the bobbins with a lot of thread -- this makes it easier for me to flip them but makes it significantly more likely for them to tangle.
Overall, pretty fun! I did the whole braid in a few hours this evening. My tension could be better, but that'll come with time.
