BattleBlades x Kult of Athena Exclusive Edition – Yokai Oni Katana
Exclusive to Kult of Athena! This version of the BattleBlades Yokai Oni Katana has a grip wrap of brilliant red ito cord which is matched with a saya scabbard with a deep red lacquer for an overall bold and vibrant Katana. Limited Quantity Available.
The Yokai Oni Katana from BattleBlades explores what is possible when committed to making a katana that is as swift and agile as possible while retaining highly respectable cutting ability. The Unokubi-zukuri blade style pays great attention to the spine of the blade; the thickest part of a katana blade, the Unokubi-zukuri style removes weight at the base of the blade with a deep and wide bo-hi groove. This groove then deftly transitions into a narrowed spine, giving the blade a cross section closer to a stretched diamond instead of the standard wedge-shaped cross section of most katana. The change may seem subtle, but that plane change removes considerable weight from the spine of the blade. This thinned section then flares and thickens at the tip of the blade to reinforce the tip for thrusting techniques. This is a more complicated blade geometry than seen in most katana, but the attention paid to these details by the bladesmith pays dividends in the blades balance to create a sword that lends itself well to becoming a natural extension of the swordsman’s arms and will.
The blade is forged from tough and resilient T10 high carbon steel which has been differentially-tempered in the traditional manner with the use of laboriously-applied clay coating when quenching to produce a sword with a hardened, dull-resistant edge and a shock absorbing body and spine of softer steel. The hardened edge has a hardness of 59-60 HRc and the body and spine of the blade are 40-45 HRc. This process has left the blade with a natural edge hamon which was made vibrantly visible when the blade was hand polished to a high level.
The blade is matched with a hilt setting featuring highly detailed components with a Yokai Oni motif; the tsuba, fuchi and kashira are blackened antique-finished brass with intricate detailing picked out in contrasting silver and gold. The habaki and seppa are brass and the grip is crafted from well-carved wood. The grip is completed with panels of genuine rayskin which are bound in premium silk cord in a katate-maki style grip wrap. Prominent and highly detailed silvered menuki are carefully fitted beneath the grip wrap to complete the katana.
The sword is matched with a magnificently carved and detailed hardwood saya scabbard which features a sprawling dragon finished with a topcoat of glossy dark red lacquer. Its koiguchi, kojiri and kurikata fittings are genuine buffalo horn and its sageo cord is of knotted premium silk. Included is silk sword bag and a manufacturers production certificate.

Exclusive to Kult of Athena! This version of the #BattleBlades Zugaikotsu #katana alters the grip to have black lacquered rayskin overlaid with ivory-hue ito cord to give the stylized appearance of a spine or rib cage to match its skull theme tsuba and kashira. A dark and smoothly polished rosewood is used in lieu of the lighter wood of the standard version. Limited Quantity Available.
This Katana from BattleBlades melds a unique “Zugaikotsu” (skull) themed Katana with a premium blade forged in the traditional manner with panels of folded steel which are laminated together by a highly skilled bladesmith to create a composite blade construction. The blade of this #Honsanmai katana started with several different components of 1095 steel, with each component folded – a traditional technique to remove impurities from the steel. These components were then forge-welded together to create a laminated blade which has a spine and core of softer steel melded with jacketed side panels of wear-resistant steel and a hard steel edge. Once it was forged into a complete sword blade the blade was then differentially-tempered with clay in the traditional manner to further harden the blade edge. The blade edge has a hardness of 59-60 HRc and the spine and body of the blade are 40-45 HRc.
The blade was completed with a high-level Hazuya hand-polish which carefully brings out the visible ripple-pattern Hada of the folded steel, the hamon line and the thin line that denotes where the laminated edge of the blade melds into the body of the blade. The blade has no bo-hi groove and it retains a thickened spine to ensure that it cuts and slices with maximum force. The skull shaped tsuba and skeletal fuchi and kashira components are crafted from durable antiqued metal and they are paired with a matching habaki and seppa. The wooden tsuka grip has panels of genuine rayskin which are wrapped over with knotted premium silk tsuka ito cord.
The sword is paired with a wooden saya of well-carved rosewood with a dark finish; its speckled silk sageo cord completes the katana. Included is a silk sword bag and a manufacturers production certificate.

APOC Survival Katana with Hidden Kozuka Knife – Designed by Angus Trim
The A.P.O.C. Katana is an all-business tactical Katana designed for maximum usability, practicality and lethality and this version has an additional hidden-blade Kozuka knife which serves as an excellent utility knife and a backup close-quarters self defense tool – it slides and slots into its own pocket on the scabbard for concealment and swift removal when needed.
Designed by renowned swordsmith Angus Trim, the clean lines of this katana emphasize decisive cutting coupled with robust construction; the spine of the blade is thick and strong and in profile the blade has an elongated, chisel-like geometry designed to give it a long cutting plane – this is a blade built to cut, hack, stab and slice with authority. The blade is constructed from 9260 high carbon steel and is finished with a Black Oxide coating to minimize maintenance and maximize stealth.
The thickened tang is very wide for optimum hilt durability; the grip scale slabs are both simple and sturdy G10 Fiberglass laminate which is triple anchored into the tang. The grip design is flush with the tang and has no notable hard edges so as to prevent blisters and lesions on the hands from extended field use. A hooked notch at the base of the blade prevents the hands from sliding onto the blade during a strike. A pre-drilled lanyard hole accommodates your own lanyard or hanging loop. The sword comes with a tactical sheath of fiberglass with MOLLE system-compatible hanging slots. Two knobs in the sheath lock onto matching indents on the the sword to secure it into the scabbard when sheathed.
The Kozuka Knife has a sharp and slender blade crafted from High Speed Steel to ensure that it has a high level of edge retention and hardness. This type of  tool steel is often used for applications where durability is paramount, such as for saw blades and drill bits and it finds great utility in this Kozuka utility knife. The knife has full tang construction with a handle of G10 riveted to the tang for a tough and lasting construction.

The Schloss Erbach sword from Windlass is a replica of an excellent and well-preserved German bastard sword from c. 1480 – it is now a highlight of the Oakeshott Institute collection in Minneapolis, but it takes its name from having once resided in the armory at Schloss Erbach. In true late-medieval German style the hilt has some naturalistic gothic elements matched with a blade that is well suited to the cut and thrust alike. This was clearly a sword for a knight or a professional warrior and it is a treasure to modernity that the original was preserved in exemplary condition.
The blade of this reproduction has been forged from 1065 high carbon steel and is well-tempered. The guard and pommel are steel and the grip is crafted from wood which is tightly overlaid in black leather. The sword is matched with a scabbard of thick and durable leather and has a steel chape and locket.
