#Kuina lives au

I don’t know if this has been done before but hear me out… Kuina lives Au

Not as in she faked her death, but as in she lived INSTEAD of Zoro. Everything else is the exact same. They still made their vows to become the greatest swordsman and to fight every day, but instead of Kuina falling down the stairs, Zoro died in some other sudden way.

Now I’m no expert with One Piece lore or anything, but from the way I’m imagining it, it could be that literally nothing would change about the plot of the main story. I like to imagine that, after Zoro’s death, Kuina goes through a similar character shift where she realizes she has to carry out both of their dreams. I always loved that Zoro’s three sword style represented the way that he was fighting in both of their names, and I feel that Kuina would have done the same thing in his honor. Zoro really seemed to inspire her with his determination that anyone can be great, and I don’t find it unreasonable that she also would have left the village to fight stronger opponents, likely even ending up as a strong bounty hunter in the East Blue, as Zoro did.

Now I don’t feel that we really saw a lot of Kuina’s personality relating to situations other than her and Zoro’s rivalry, but it’s pretty clear to me that her and Zoro are similar in a lot of ways. Kuina had more of a defeatist attitude about her future, but that was a product of the environment she was raised in. She clearly still had a strong fighting spirit, and once Zoro encouraged her (in his own way lol), she seemed to be susceptible to the dreamer mentality that Zoro— and many of the Staw Hats— have. If Zoro died instead, I think it would only add to the motivation she felt about overcoming her perceived weakness.

I’m not sure how exactly this would change the strawhats’ dynamics, though I think there would be something interesting there when it came to her relationship with Sanji, as I don’t imagine she would appreciate his flawed outlook on women.

Wanted to make a proper older!Kuina design :) i have a few things i wanna doodle out still but its late as fuck so its gotta wait til tomorrow 😭

Anyway, my idea for her is she has a falling out with Koushirou when shes 17, which was just waiting to happen after she healed from her accident. She runs off on the first boat out of there, didnt matter where. She left Wado Ichimonji in Zoro’s care because she just needed as much separation from her father and her family as a whole as possible. She wanted to reinvent herself, to forget about her father's harmful words and overbearing protection. She tripped, a simple accident anyone could have succumbed to. That doesn't make her weak, plus she survived so she argues that makes her strong! Stronger, even!

She runs from home bc she couldn’t stand the loss of the person who believed and supported her dreams. She becomes a bounty hunter to support herself and becomes Pirate Hunter Kuina

Luffy asks her to join his crew, Kuina rejects him at first but seeing how brash, loud, and stupid Luffy is, he reminds her of her old childhood friend/rival and becomes quickly endeared by him. And when she tells him about her dream and Luffy wholeheartedly believes and supports her

She’s a little weary of Nami, mostly bc she’s used to being around boys. They butt heads sometimes but Kuina appreciates having a girl friend

Sanji, Kuina absolutely despises. She does not like the special treatment he gives her just for being a girl, she finds it insulting

Random hcs for kuina and zoro in a kuina lives au

-have begrudgingly pretended to be a couple for plans but they exclusively pretend to be a toxic couple on their way to divorce

-equally chaotic. She is NOT the voice of reason, there is no voice of reason. God is dead and they killed him for a klondike bar

-they become bounty hunters together pre-straw hats. They decide to run away as Kuina faces more and more pressure to be a ‘proper’ woman and stop training. They do end up lost/at loose ends and start taking bounties

-Demons of the East Blue “Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro” and “The Unshakeable Swordsman Kuina” bc she has a spectacular RBF

-They trade the three swords they have between them back and forth. Zoro aquires a fourth and starts perfecting three sword style. Eventually Kuina gives him Wado permanently because she wants to prove she can do things her way, including with swords that have no history

-mid to late puberty zoro makes a point to compare chest sizes and claims he’ll become the greatest swordsman WITH boobs bc he’s not a coward

-share clothes. In fact there is no his clothes and her clothes there’s just a pile on the floor or a bundle in the bottom of their backpacks that they grab from and sniff test each time they change

-this works bc he’s a smidge wider and she’s a bit taller. Around the post timeskip era she shoots up one last time and grows into her Tall Ass Wano Lady heritage. He of course gets bigger like in canon

-nap sitting up back to back often

-they also share a bed pretty often, a habit from their broke bounty hunter days, when they would do so to save money. Again it’s totally platonic but it infuriates Sanji to no end, which only makes them do it more

-kuina sort of bops in and out of the plot as they go while on her own training arc journey

-she’s def with them in wano, the bloodline connections alone would be hilarious

-kuina, standing between Kiku and Yamato: it feels like the universe is trying to tell me something I swear but I can’t figure out what it is goddammit but I can feel it in my bones (🏳️‍⚧️)

-armament heavy arm work zoro v armament heavy core work kuina (fueling her power from the whole body, since she doubts her upper body strength, also keeps her arms quick and her base steady). I just think it would be interesting to see them apply the same skills in a different was

-kuina has a great sense of direction and a stunning dyslexia/discalcula combo. Duo minmaxed for street smarts but they make up for each other so it’s fine

-Zoro still hates fighting Tashigi, because he sees her hesitance as an insult to female swordfighters and thinks she’s giving kuina a bad reputation. Literally no one else thinks they look similar, since Kuina stopped having a baby face like a decade ago

New One Piece AU dropped focusing around Zoro and Mihawk! You shall be subjected to it.

TW: Long Ask

Okay, so basically, this au has a long title but I dubbed it Child of the Sword. It started off with Zoro being able to see the spirits of the swords since in One Piece, swords are sentient and are possessed in a way. Only Zoro can see these spirits and talks to them all the time. At first, he didn't realize others couldn't see them. My friend and I played around with this a lot, and now's it's developed into a whole thing.

When Kuina died, Zoro's anger and grief erupted and Zoro discovered he was the incarnation of the Ancient Weapon: Ares. Created by the war god Asura. The sensei makes Zoro swear to never use his power in public unless it was life or death. Zoro goes on to see Kuina's spirit tied to Wado Ichimonji. During the shells town arc, Morgan is extra cruel bc he is Morgan, and when Zoro is tied in the courtyard he has the swordsman whipped on the back, marring and littering Zoro's back with scars. Zoro's honor is in shambles when Luffy shows up and helps him. During Baratie, Zoro fights Mihawk and loses, ending up with the scar on his chest. After Zoro promises to never fail, he whipsers "Finally a worthy scar" and Mihawk overhears. Mihawk almost noted how Zoro always seemed to be looking at things that aren't there.

So naturally, the warlord decides to kidnap Zoro instead of Luffy (yes I am mashing up OPLA and the anime, fight me). The Straw hats go on the free Nami from Arlong then make plans to get Zoro back from Mihawk. Zoro is less than pleased to be kidnapped by the strongest swordsman. Mihawk brings Zoro with him to meet with Shanks about Luffy's bounty poster and Shanks convinces Mihawk to give Zoro back to the Straw Hats, but before that happens, Mihawk and Zoro end up talking about Zoro's special abilities. Mihawk comes to the realization of what Zoro is and keeps it to himself.

During the two year time skip, Zoro reunites with Mihawk (even though he never stopped talking with the warlord after being dropped off ((begrudgingly)) at lougetown). Mihawk trains Zoro in the way of the sword AND helps him to realize his full potential.

This is all I have for now, but I have ideas for Dressrosa and Wano. :D

But yesss constantly talking to air and technically he doesn’t need to but the swords haven’t told him that because it’s funny. And he’s just this ball of angst plus weirdo probably crazy guy who talks to his swords— so he’d be even more ostracized then in canon yeah the mentality Ill are stigmatized and treated poorly in all universes. Expect he not mentally ill I mean if we don’t count the Kuina trauma ™️ probably which is what gives Ironjaw the gaul and to whip him as well as tie him up to suffer dehydration and probably heat stroke so fun.

Maybe Kuina tags along in the form of wado-ichumongi? Maybe he can talk to her sometimes? Idk I just want him to be constantly fighting and loosing to a preteen girl that lives in his sword, I think that would be funny.

Mihawk please! Mihawk that’s kidnapping! Mihawk you’ve kidnapped a child. Because of course he has and did because Zoro=interesting equals if I leave him alone he could die and with the looks of his crew probably will die. Ugh guess I have to steal him.

You know he shows up at that beach eyeliner on, lip gloss applied and cunting it up to shore and with Zoro trying to stab him every other step. Shanks is very worried and weirded out. But also laughs his ass off because of course this is how Mihawk acquires a kid. But also he’s like Mihawk seriously no bad we don’t kidnap… Whitebeards the exception not the rule!

• Kuina's Dad has reported her missing to the Marines so she's very careful not to let Marines get pictures of her face in case they try to inform him where she is

• Zoro had a crush on her when they were young but Kuina knew she was Aroace an explained to him she didn't want that kind of relationship with anyone an afterwards her an Zoro became much closer (-especially after Zoro realized he liked guys-) an now they're at the point where they'll storm into eachothers rooms while changing an not even blink

• Doesn't get along super well with anyone on the crew at first bc she feels like they're gonna steal Zoro from her or that he'll abandon her

• Her love language is Quality time and Acts of service

• Nami an her do NOT get along, at first, she hates how bossy Nami is an how quick she is to have others protect her rather then try to get stronger. She sees Nami as the epitome of everything she didn't want to be an the stereotypes she fought against.

And Nami hates how Kuina looks down on her for being physically weaker an doesn't acknowledge Nami's intelligence an resourcefulness. Also hates that Kuina judges her for her feminity.

(-Kuina thinks Nami is encouraging misogyny by acting in line with the stereotypes of women & Nami thinks Kuina is perpetuating misogyny by belittling women who're very feminine or not as physically capable-)
