DOES IT EVER GET EASIER?

I was 6 when I lost someone for the first time. 7 when I lost another. I was 13 when I lost myself, 16 when I lost a whole part of my family. 

But these are just the major losses that I've experienced in my life. What about the minor ones? Losing my best friend, my passion to paint, my childhood memories. 

How many losses can a person experience in their lifetime?

I have always thought that loss was something I could prepare for. Once I had accepted that life was finite, I would be able to come to terms with the fact that all lives end, one day. Nothing would faze me. But loss can not be prepared for.

Loss cannot be prepared for, because when you lose something, someone, you don't lose them all at once. You lose them in bits and pieces. You lose them in moments. On some days it gets harder. You open the door hoping to see them, sitting there, smiling at you. You turn around to tell them a funny joke you remembered. You call to ask what their favourite colour was again. And then it hits you. It hits you in those small moments. They're gone.

The worse part comes when begin to forget. When the memories begin to get foggy and faces start to blur. You don't want to forget, but you do. And you start to resent yourself for not remembering hard enough. For giving up so easily. For not keeping them alive, in your memories at least.

We lose bits of ourselves in the people we've lost. And that's why each loss hurt differently. That's why you can never prepare for it. Each loss is the loss of another piece of you that you never thought you were going to lose. You lose one part, and you feel more prepared, and then you lose a completely different part the next time. And you start to wonder which one is next. But you'll never know for sure.

Grieving the loss of the dead is hard, but no one ever talks about grieving the loss of a person who is still alive.

There's a girl out there who I once knew everything about, from her favourite colour to the reason behind the scar on her eyebrow. There were places we planned on visiting, futures we planned on living. But none of that exists anymore. There's all this information I have that I don't know what to do with it. She's gone and all I have are stories. And maybe one day, I'll begin to forget those too.

But loss is not just about people. We lose things, memories, passions. Loss is something that connects us all. It's the one thing that all of us have experienced at one point or another. Something that we will all experience over and over again. So, why are we so afraid to talk openly about the ones we've lost? Why do we hesitate to speak of those who have gone?

See, I've learned that grief is just love. It's all the love we wanted to give someone. It's all the love you thought you'd had more time for. All the love left unspent. Grief is just love that no longer has a place to go. And so it fills your lungs instead, it hollows out your chest, it gathers in your eyes, and it attempts to wait for a destination. A destination that never arrives.

Loss doesn't ever stop hurting. The pain doesn't go away, not completely at least. You'll hear their favourite song on the radio or watch their favourite movie on TV, and your heart will stutter and the tears will come. But some days, you won't. Somedays you'll remember the good times, and you'll laugh. And you'll be thankful that you had the honour of knowing someone like them.

Loss doesn't get easier, it gets bearable. But, you'll survive. You always do.

She is.......very passionate. very excitable and bright!!!! Finch adores her but going out in public with her can be stressful because she has no volume control or care for what people think of her. she also makes fun of him loudly and often

She has a lot of hobbies - cello, painting, poetry, tap dancing (her mother never rests aksjdkglhl) - and she likes learning new things a lot, especially languages and in that vein, specifically Norwegian

She loves the whole ghost cop team - they come down to Cali for holidays occasionally, when Finch invites them - but she especially loves Cecily, because Cec is artsy like her (and she’s the reason Iris wants to work with art and music therapy!!!)

She made her and Finch buttons - hers has a goldfinch, his has a purple iris - that Finch makes sure to wear every time he comes home between semesters (their family is in northern Cali, but obviously his uni is in Oregon)

She and Krisha do meet! After Sai and Krisha break from the clan, they try to essentially act like they’re humans and just assimilate into the human world yknow? And the first thing Finch thinks is “Iris and Krisha will get on like a wildfire”

So Finch is like bro my semester just ended, I’m going home for the summer holiday, you and Krisha just come with me and y’all can hang out with yknow. normal people instead of demons or ghost cops! and Krisha can meet Iris!

And he’s right, they do get on like a wildfire, even if Krisha is quieter and more reserved than Iris - they’re basically best friends on sight

Part 1

Hi. I’m Russ. I’ve been running this blog since 2011.  I’m reintroducing myself because lately, I just followed whoever I saw on my dashboard. I guess I just need someone to talk to. Someone, something to make me feel less alone. Don’t we all? I want to tell you a story of my love life. Not everything though. I’ve met some guys here on Tumblr and some guys on some dating apps. I’ve met some at school and some at the workplace. There’s this one guy, though, one guy I’ve been for four years. I want to tell you about him and how we built our beautiful world together and how we simply burned it with words. 

His name is Mark. A very easy name to remember. A name, for me, that was almost synonymous with joy. He was my happiness and my balance - that is until I saw him for who he really is and I ran away.

I met Mark at a point in my life wherein I thought I’ve had enough experimenting. I dated girls and guys when I was in college. I did this to figure out who I really am. In a society where the world is painted black and white, I was against the norm. I have unusual tendencies, weird proclivities which other people dismissed as unusual, peculiar. 

I will always remember that first kiss with a guy. It was on my high school senior year. Dale opened up my world to a lot of possibilities. After Dale, I dated a girl to prove to myself that I still follow the norm. Krisha was a wonderful, kind girl, but a whole box of crayons was just trying to get out of my chest. 

I graduated from high school. I tried to forget what happened. I didn’t date again for the following year. During my sophomore year in college, I started dating again. I’ve dated girls and guys, some at the same time. I put on my student mask in the morning but at night I let loose. My sophomore and junior year in college was a haze of smoke and alcohol. All my relationships, a disaster. 

One guy was James, whom I met at Planet Romeo. What a handsome guy. When I met him in person, I was just so mesmerized by his pair of chinito eyes. He’s smart too. We’ve had the same interests. I was young, I admit. I didn’t manage the relationship well. I value the love language of words, and James is the most verbally unromantic guy. Ever. Moving on from James. 

I met this guy on WeChat. His name was Wilhelm. What attracted me to Wilhelm was his “straight" guy demeanor. He talks like a straight guy, he has a manly facial hair, and over-all he acts like a really straight guy. My problem with him are these: I cannot touch him in public, I cannot talk to him romantically in public, and I cannot show my affection to him in public. I have realized that I cannot hide like that and I don’t want to. Love is the highest form of self-expression and silencing it is the worst oppression we can do to ourselves.

I met Nikka at a club in Baguio. I was on the dance floor with my cousins and I believe I just heard the most beautiful laughter in the world. I looked at the direction of the sound and I saw Nikka, head tossed back, laughing at something her friends were doing. I have to date this girl, I said to myself. My cousins made it happen and the morning after clubbing, I was having brunch with Nikka. She was a graduating student at UP Baguio then. We were just talking about many things that we forgot the world. She’s really smart, probably one of the smartest people I have ever met. She’s the one for me, I said. She’s perfect in every way.

But I like guys, right?

Then identity crisis hit. I hated myself. I couldn’t quite understand what I want in life and who I want to be in it. This was a point in my life where everything just took the wrong turn and I was left in shambles. I’ve had enough, I said to myself. I don’t think I can handle any more heartbreaks. 

On my graduation year, that’s when I met Mark. That’s when a new road opened up for me.
