It must have been difficult for Kouji to see Miyo with Kiyoka.
I don't hate Kouji, I think his story is very sad, because despite being kind he was always trapped and restricted by his social position. That is to say, the fact that he came from a family in decline and was a second son did not give him the tools to change his or anyone else's destiny. He wanted to save Miyo so much but it was impossible for him.
And when he understood that to protect the things he loved he had to become stronger, it was too late for him and Miyo to have a future.
The admirable thing is that despite his feelings he was able to ask Kiyoka for help. It must have hurt him a lot to make that decision because Kiyoka has everything that Kouji doesn't: power, money and influence. these things are unreachable for Kouji. So despite having to endure the pain of seeing the woman he loves marry another man, Kouji has realized that it is the best for Miyo.

Oh. Ok.
I had hoped Saimori was, idk, just turning a blind eye, maybe cared at least a little for Miyo and it was just that he loved his wife and Kaya more than Miyo and let them do whatever.
But no. He hated her. Ok.
I hope Kudo zaps Mr. Saimori's balls with lightning. Punishment for bringing Miyo into this wretched excuse of a family.

My Happy Marriage Episode 4 Review: Kiyoka Is The Best Husband
I apologize that this review came out late. I’ve been busy with writing chapters for my internet novel Lavender Eyes that I didn’t have time to watch My Happy Marriage until now. While this episode had moments that angered me, it also made me tear up a bit. Also, excuse my language in this review because I don’t have pleasant things to say for some parts of this episode.
The part that angered me was, of course, the scenes with Miyo’s scumbag family members. Miyo’s family is absolute shit. Her biological father developed no love for his first daughter because she lacked powers. It’s boggling that his love is only worth something if his child has power. What an absolute trash bag of a father he is. The fact that this is can apply to Asian families in real life hurts even more. Because her father finds her worthless, he was the reason why Kaya ended up the spiteful, entitled brat that she is. Miyo’s stepmother is a bitch and it’s because of her that Kaya became the way she is. I don’t care if Kaya’s attitude and behavior is because of how she was raised, she still engaged in abusing her sister and still does it to this day, meaning she enjoys doing it like the psychopathic bitch she is. The fact that she develops a liking to Kiyoka pisses me off even more given how bratty she is. Kaya is exactly the type of girl Kiyoka LOATHES because his previous fiancees were all gold-diggers and only saw him as a way for climb up the social ladder. Kaya only finds his exterior attractive.
Speaking of Kiyoka, he was an absolute JOY to watch. He visits Miyo’s crap family and tells them that if they don’t apologize to Miyo for all the abuse she had to endure from them, he won’t give them anything in return; he’s basically saying that he won’t give them money or associate them as his in-laws. He’s written absolutely well. He’s not someone who miscommunicates with Miyo or is dumb enough to believe in lies. He’s someone who believes in the truth and in love because he loves Miyo.
The fact that he figured out something was wrong with Miyo after she returned from her outing and wanted to do something to bring back the confidence and brightness she had before. He wrote a letter to someone and that was when Hana, Miyo’s former attendant, came to visit her and encouraged her to be confident and content with her current life.
Miyo feeling like she’s happy with her life but then regressing back to her old self was heartbreaking to see. Miyo finally felt like she had a place to belong, but when Kaya came in, everything got ruined. The fact that she decided to hyper fixate on making a hair tie for Kiyoka and looked rather out of it when she was done showed how bad her issues are. The way her voice actress voiced her so soft spoken to the point of being a mumbling robot was extremely good voice acting. Wow. I’m impressed.
The fact that she realized how much she is loved and worth from Hana is so well-written. Sometimes, people in despair just need that extra push to be able to move on. What Miyo needed was encouragement that everything is going to be okay and that she has people who care about her. The way she was moved to tears when she learned that it was her husband-to-be that sent a letter for her to come to the Kudou manor to see her tugged my heart.
She told Kiyoka of her secrets and how that she’s nothing special despite being a daughter of a wealthy family, but he already knew. He doesn’t care and that he only wants her to be his wife. The way he hugged her so tenderly and how she accepted it back made me so emotional. Man, Kiyoka’s such a good man. The fact that he didn’t expect much from Miyo from when he first met her to falling for her gentle soul speaks so much; the fact that she was so different from his previous fiancees speaks so much in volume. Please only let good things happen to them from now on.
Koji’s brother Kazushi makes his debut in this episode. He doesn’t have much screen time, but all that is told from his 1 minute screen time is that he has abilities and that he doesn’t take his responsibilities seriously. He also teased Koji about being too nice to the point of being unkind. I feel like that’s Koji’s character in general. He’s a nice guy, but he didn’t do anything to stop Kaya from abusing Miyo despite being in love with her. I think Kazushi’s role is to foreshadow that aspect of him. Will he be more of a spineless coward in future episodes?
Wow, I wrote a lot for this review. I can’t help it. The episode was such a rollercoaster. I can’t wait for what’s to come next week as it feels as if something bad is going to happen now that Mr. Tatsuishi is trying to use Kaya in his plans to get his hands on Miyo. What are your thoughts on this episode and how much do you want to punch all of Miyo’s abusive family members in the face? I certainly want to beat the crap out of them and have them get a taste of their own medicine.

HI LOL! I saw this earlier but I didn’t wanna respond because I was pissed and I might have blown up on you. So I waited to answer.
When I wrote this post, I was watching episode 6, and I was just so pissed at both Kaya and the mom who's name I never bothered to remember. Because what they were doing was actually insane to me.
Now that I have calmed down, I can see your point. Kaya grew as the favourite because of her power and saw her mother's treatment towards her step-sister, and grew up thinking it was normal, adopting that treatment and starting to grow up like that.
She was just raised thinking it was normal. And the parents enabled it. They didn't stop her and scolded her, telling her it was wrong to do so. The maids didn't either, probably due to the fear of the rage of the Saimori falling upon them too.
I hope both Kaya and Koji, now that they're away from the bitchlet and Shinjiro (was that his name? I genuinely can't remember.), are happy. Because Koji genuinely is a nice man, and even though he got screwed over, thinking he was going to marry Miyo, I hope that the two grow and be happy.
Hell, maybe I could write a fic about this.

My Happy Marriage: Initial Impression
Status: currently watching (7/12 episodes)
Still watching My Happy Marriage (MHM) and haven't read the source materials yet, but my impression of the first seven episodes is positive.
The story at its core is cultural and political, and Miyo's childhood trauma is a glimpse of the bigger social context of that period: people with spirit-sight are considered high-value beings, while those without such an ability aren't regarded the same.
I had hoped that the cultural and political context of MHM's time period would be established in the first few episodes, but instead, the context was touched on per episode. Albeit rushed, perhaps constrained by the series length and the 24 minutes per episode, I still understood the kind of world that our protagonists live in.
But the anime's rushed establishment of the story's cultural and political context left me with some questions. Maybe later in the series or in the upcoming second season shall they be addressed, unless the source media has all the answers.
I want to know more about:
The histories of prominent families like the Usubas, Kudos, Saimoris, and Tatsuishis
How people get spirit-sight in the first place or like its origins,
What the government does to people with spirit-sight: do they recruit them, put them in positions to fight the grotesques, and seek their assistance? Kudo works for the government and Koji's older brother is a consultant to the emperor, which made me wonder if these people are serving the country voluntarily or not.
Any sort of pressure on people born with gifts to help fight grotesques, and why do others with abilities use their gifts like party tricks.

I swear this scene really pisses me off. It's bad enough the way Kaya spoke to Miyo and Koji just stood by and let it happen, but what frustrates me more is the fact that Koji also believed Miyo was kicked out.
It was obvious based on his facial expression. He assumed the same as Kaya, showing how he looked sorry for Miyo when Kaya was badmouthing her, stating her belief Kiyoka abandoned her.
He even stated in his own thoughts in the 2nd episode that he too believed Miyo would've been thrown out. (Goes to show how little confidence even Koji had in Miyo himself that JERK!)
The final nail in the coffin was the shocked look on his face when Yurie appeared and defended Miyo, clearing stating that she was in fact set to become Kiyoka's Wife and therefore had NOT been abandoned as those bastards assumed!

Kouji found them smiling, I wonder what he thought of this because the way Kiyoka holds Miyo is so tender. And Miyo was wearing a beautiful kimono and looked healthy.

My Happy Marriage Episode 6 Review: Playing With Fire
I am applauding. This is the best episode of the show by far. The way the kidnapping plot gets resolved in one episode, the way Kiyoka comes to rescue his fiancee and the way Miyo stands her ground against her abusive family is just perfection.
I like the fact that everything isn’t slow paced and that rescuing Miyo actually takes the entire episode and not cut into two parts. It is a bit fast-paced but I’m just glad that nothing felt rushed. It was super satisfying to see everything resolved in one episode but while holding more questions for future episodes. I’m just personally biased because the Saimori family is no more!
The action scenes were amazing. The way the supernatural powers were animated was a treat to see! It shows that these people are special in a way, but Kiyoka is a lot more special for he is the strongest ability user in the current generation. It makes you wonder why Miyo’s dumb dad actually sent over his “reject” daughter to wed him and not the favorite Kaya. It matters not because Miyo is happier and better than Kaya. Though, my only gripes with the action scene is that Mr. Tatsuishi and Miyo’s dad were stupid. Mr. Tatsuishi was the reason why the Saimori manor got caught on fire and Mr. Saimori wasn’t even aware of the kidnapping plot but still helped him out. Talk about idiocy…
The way Kiyoka seems calm but is actually furious on the inside shows with how he behaves in this episode. His rage starts with him destroying the gate and then using lightning on Mr. Tatsuishi and then coldly rejecting Kaya by telling her that he’d never marry a girl like her. In fact, the fact that Kiyoka is not only a fire user, but has other abilities in his arsenal like barriers and conjuring lightning. Since he is the best ability user, having multiple abilities makes sense. However, I do wish Kiyoka was a bit more aggressive. That’s just wishful thinking on my part since I want someone to punch or kick Kaya and her mother. I’m glad that he’s not shallow or dumb and just loves Miyo for who she is.
The way Miyo stands her ground amazed me. If this was Miyo from Episode 1, she’d just give up and apologize, but she’s not the Miyo from before now. She’s a changed girl now! Living with Kiyoka and Yurie helped her realize what happiness is and how precious it is to her. Even if her stepmother and half-sister were beating her, she firmly goes against what they want her to say. The way she fought for her happiness was truly marvelous. Miyo’s trauma might not be fully recovered, but she healed up enough to know that she has someone who loves her and that she loves him back. The way Kiyoka and Yurie were relieved to see her after she awakened was truly warm.
I’m also amazed with how Koji finally stood up to Kaya. He told her that he’s helping her because he loves Miyo and that he doesn’t want her to be sad when someone is hurt. It was very brave of him. I want this guy to be happy with someone who is deserving of him.
I’m curious to see what the second half of the show will bring to the table. There seems to be two new antagonists coming into the picture and they seem to be connected to the Usuba line. The bedridden man seemed to have conspired with Mr. Tatsuishi regarding Miyo’s lineage, but since he failed, it’s time for the bespectacled man to come into the fray. I wonder if the second half of the show will focus around Miyo’s power since it seems that Sumi’s words were hinting at Miyo’s abilities awakening. I do wonder what her abilities are and how powerful they are.
What did you think about how this episode turned out? Was it satisfying for you? Please let me know!

Oh, I totally hear you! I absolutely hated Kaya as I watched it! And that feeling won't go away without seeing some character growth. But, I do think there's room for that growth to happen in her case, and I hope it happens for Koji's sake. As you say, he's a genuinely good guy, and his situation was really unfair. If you do end up writing a fic, please tag me because I would definitely read it!
