This is the shittiest excuse I've ever heard of for a divorce!!!
Did he seriously think he was protecting Hazuki by throwing her back like a fish that's too small? "Oh, my family hates you, so I'm getting rid of you- but I'M keeping the kid, tho."
THIS! IS! SHIT!!!
You don't protect someone by throwing them out in the street! You do it by getting in their abuser's face and telling them to back the f*** off!!!
Contrast Hazuki's ex with Kudo:
And compare Hazuki's ex with Koji (before Koji grew a spine, that is):
Which one is more similar?
Even the Bible talks about this:
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Genesis 2:24
But Hazuki's husband didn't do that. No, he chose his parents- probably his precious inheritance and family name- over his wife. "Oh, I love you too much to let you put up with this, so I'm taking the baby and kicking you out." No, if he actually loved her, he would choose her. He would CUT OFF his family to protect her, if necessary.
And what happened to Hazuki because of it? What is she thinking?
"Oh, but it's my fault."
Her husband treated her like shit and threw her out, and she blames herself. She wants to act like she's healed from it, but she hasn't, not if this is still her thought process.

Unsurprisingly, people are already being fucking weird about Mizu's gender.
Headcanons are all well and good, but maybe we shouldn't be so eager to apply modern Western gender politics and terms to a character whose identity is so tied to the time, place, and circumstances in which she exists.
Please remember that Mizu was forced to present as male for her own safety and agency. Please remember that allowing others to see her as a man and call her he/him is not a choice; it's protection; it's a means to an end. Until we see Mizu talk about her gender in further detail, that's all the context we have.
Don't project what you want to see onto her and then treat it as fact.
#Blue Eye Samurai#BES#Svar rants#also as an enby who doesn't use they it super rubs me the wrong way to see people insisting on calling her they#even if she *is* genderqueer or nonbinary (and we don't know that she is) that does not mean that they automatically applies#and if you think that it does please go back to Gender 101 do not pass go do not collect $100#on top of that there's the whole issue of applying English pronoun politics to a Japanese speaker#like I'm begging y'all to consider cultural and historical context before y'all go gallivanting off with your readings of Mizu's gender#taking a baseball bat to a hornet's nest with this one I know but I'm Bothered

some observations from going down a rabbit hole of japanese language xigbar yesterday
(apologies for the youtube watermarks. i got this clip from this video.)
[Video ID: a fifteen-second clip from a cutscene from kingdom hearts 3D: dream drop distance, with japanese audio and english-language visuals. it's the scene where xigbar tells sora that he's not going to wake up. end ID.]
keep in mind that this clip is just the japanese audio being played over the visuals from the english language release. the subtitles aren't a direct or literal translation of the words being spoken; they correspond to the localized dialogue that the english voice actors wouldve been given
hōchū ōtsuka (xigbar's japanese va) and james patrick stewart (his english va) give, to my ears, pretty similar vocal performances. this is the case for pretty much all of the characters ive seen so far in my xigbar-centric explorations (roxas's vas sound nearly IDENTICAL). the notable exception being xemnas, whose japanese va straight up sounds like he's trying to talk without moving his mouth
in the english dub cutscenes, the character animations often feel...floaty? disconnected? like, because they're not synced up to what the characters are saying and how, their gestures frequently seem random and unmotivated. in retrospect it's obvious that this issue wouldnt be present in the original language because that's the dialogue they would've been animated around in the first place!
now that im actually watching the character animation with the dialogue it was actually done for, i appreciate it a lot more. its so expressive. smiles.
at the end of xigbar's speech here you may notice him saying the phrase "tte hanashi." this is his japanese catchphrase! it means something along the lines of "so they say", "or so I've heard", et cetera. i love "as if" im a big fan of "as if" but i also love the idea of xigbar consistently undermining the information he gives and emphasizing how often he eavesdrops and spies on people.
he says "tte hanashi" very very often. multiple times in most of his scenes that ive seen so far. way more often than the english dub says "as if"
he doesn't say it normal like im pretty sure that's not how you say it in normal speech. like sometimes he does say it normal, but he always draws it out at least a little and often really draws it out, emphasizing it with some kind of gesture, like he does in the clip
seriously if there's a moment in the games where xigbar says something while doing a cunty little gesture he is probably saying "tte hanashi" in the japanese version
this is my new vocal stim. i can't stop saying it
#&BTW im absolutely going to make a supercut of every time he says tte hanashi in the games...once i....actually play 3#&also i know vastly more about japanese than the average person and vastly less than someone who speaks it fluently#im sure there are cultural/character signifiers in the way he speaks that im missing. pensive emoji.#&if you know for sure that any of my information here is wrong pleas let me know thank u. smile!#kh#kingdom hearts#xigbar#blakeposts

"why couldn't shuro have just been honest about what he felt with laios and falin it's not that hard" are you. are you White
#dungeon meshi#shuro#toshiro nakamoto#look you can hate him for other things but this is very clearly a case of cultures (& personalities influenced by these cultures) clashing#shuro is japanese/east asian-coded and laios is european white boy#i am not japanese but i also come from a collectivistic society#pakikisama is a filipino value both prized and abhorred#it relies heavily on being able to read social cues and prior knowledge of societal norms#shuro being from a different country/culture is important to his character#his repressed nature is meant to contrast with laios' open one like that's the point#they both had similar upbringings but different coping mechanisms#shuro explicitly admits that he's jealous of laios being able to live life sincerely#anyway the point is they were operating on different expectations entirely and neither had healthy enough communication skills#to hash things out before they got too bad#re his attraction to falin i personally believe he unfortunately mpdg-ed her#she represented something new & different. a fresh drink of water for his parched repressed self#alas not meant to be#i'll be honest the way ryoko kui handles both fantasy & regular racism in dm is more miss than hit for me#i don't doubt that a lot of the shuro hate is based off of marcille's pov of him#marcille famously racist 😭#characters' racist views don't often get (too) challenged#practically everyone is casually racist at some point#anyway. again if you're gonna hate shuro at least hate him for being complicit in human trafficking & slavery#he couldn't help falling for the wrong woman goddamn 😭#calemonsito notes#edit: upon further reflection i take back what i said about toshiro mpdg-ing falin!#i'm sorry toshiro 😭

natsume soseki did not say "don't say 'i love you', instead say 'the moon is beautiful tonight, isn't it'" FOR NONE OF YOUS TO WRITE IT INTO UR FICS!!!!!!!!
#BSD FANDOM ESPECIALLY!!! HES OUR GUY!!! HES THERE!!!#i say this very loosely bc like idk how it went#its a rumour that he said this right#but like fomr what i remember#natsume soseki was an incredibly talented translator but i think he preferred writing original novels#but he was one of the pushers of colloqusalised translations rather than direct which was more popular at the time#so one of his students came up to him w a novel translated from english to japanese and in part of it#one of hte characters said 'i love you'#BUT apparently natsume said that wasnt very realistic in japan due to cultural norms (iirc) and saying ' i love you' would seem too intimat#therefore instead of saying that#say something like 'the moon is beautiful tonight isnt it'#ANYWHO USE IT MORE!!!! i watched a kdrama a while back that used that (hype bc the premise was they were at a publishing firm)#and hwen i say ive never thrown myself across the room harder#pretty pretty please use it also do not take this story time as truth im stupid as fuck and also could be completely wrong but im p sure#thats how it went idk#FHDSJKF#lea.txt#bungo stray dogs#bsd#sobbing violently#bungou stray dogs#natsume soseki

people have been dumb on tiktok lately, so let me say that all ita bags are welcome here. To me itabagging is less about rules or conformity, but about pure expression for your passion and love through collecting and display. if u have a window front bag with merch in it (official or fanmade), congrats you have an ita bag!
#no rules just right#japanese and western ita bag cultures are different and thats okay!!!!#to me what matters is that you love what you're collecting and displaying!!! if that means 25 repeating can badges thats awesome#and if that means 10 pieces of mismatched merch you've collected ovwr time then thats awesome too!!!#what matters is that you love it!! thats good enough for me#also theres nothing wrong with fan produced specific ita bags god let people have fun!!!!

I have a question that may be stupid. A manga I read has a character who is Cherokee and Japanese. She's based on a friend of the author's who is also Cherokee and Japanese (her father was stationed in Japan and is a recognized member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma). Some people in the English fandom have referred to the character's ethnicity as "Japakee" and I... I feel kind of uncomfortable with that term? It reminds me of WWII when Jap was a slur commonly used, and combining that with Cherokee makes it sound kind of anti-Cherokee to me. But I'm not Cherokee, I'm Japanese + Iranian American, so I went, "Wait, I don't think I get to say to someone else that this isn't an okay term. I'm not part of this marginalized group."
I couldn't find any Cherokee or just indigenous people in general discussing this online. Are there, idk, blogs run by Cherokee/indigenous people I can run this sort of thing by? I don't want to barge into your asks just because your posts come up when I search Cherokee, since that seems rude. At the same time, it's hard to find people to ask about this kind of thing. But I certainly don't want to be ignorant of what people in the actual marginalized group being portrayed think. I know I wouldn't want anyone ignoring what Japanese or Iranian people felt about a similar term used about us.
Sorry for the rambly ask. I have ADHD, sometimes I go on too long.
Eh yea that does been a lil weird, but mostly because of like what you said about the Japanese slur tbh. The portmanteau does remind of what some natives will do when they're mixed between tribes though haha, but that's mostly jokes among our communities.
I'll open this up to my native followers, what do yall think?
#i dont know of any like. 'im native and running a blog for people to throw questions at' blogs#i dont mind getting questions at all but some people arent as open abt it#i just make the distinction that im white and disconnected so i dont know nearly as much as someone who grew up with the culture#ive also had less time having to deal with bullshit so i still have the patience for questions that a lot of folks ran out of long ago haha#asks#anon#personally i think that these people arent meaning anything bad by it#i dont see anything particularly wrong with putting cherokee in a portmanteau like that especially if it was native people doing it#but like. i think that it sounds like the japanese slur is bad enough.#ill let some other folks chime if they want#but personally yea the cherokee bit isnt that big a deal for me

Gonna!!!!! Have my first Japanese class this Thursday!!
#you guys have no idea how long i've wanted to take a proper japanese course#i wanted it in highschool but had to take spanish bc that was all they offered.#then i wanted to take it in college but they didn't have it there either so i took french.#and!! don't get me wrong spanish and french are fun but japanese has always been a language i've been super interested in.#hiragana / katakana / kanji really lights up the artist part of my brain i think. i love how it looks.#sdfklsk that is not the reason i want to learn it. i genuinely just think the language & culture is lovely & i would like to visit japan.#tried to teach myself for years through w/e books or free apps i could find but i don't think my brain is made for self-teaching language.#esp one that is so different from english. spanish? okay fine. it's easy and i think i can generally guess how something is pronounced.#japanese?? i could maybe teach myself to read but i think i'd butcher speaking.

okay i have a lot of unincubated thoughts on kim’s relationship to asian-ness as filtered through my own experiences as a chinese diaspora person navigating both my home country in se asia and also canada for a period of time
also i need more lore on seol, i must flesh out the context of kim’s seolite heritage in proximity to seol’s place within the wider geopolitics and culture
if there are gaps in the lore, i will certainly fill them in myself
#disco elysium#zee.txt#i have to say that the game's depiction of seol as a stand in for east asia is still very much limited#by the fact it was written by predominantly white eastern europeans from what i know of#i could be wrong and feel free to correct me if i am#even seol looking very similar to seoul#and kim's name being an amalgamation of both korean and japanese#leans too much into the common orientalist impulse of white people to treat east asian cultures as interchangeable#especially when we have such complicated political histories#nevertheless i still heavily appreciate kim being an east-asian coded character in the game#and that the anti-asian racism that he frequently encounters is treated very seriously in the game#which i can't say the same for many non-asian media out there

I’m always so paranoid I’m being fetishistic by being a weeb; i.e. writing names in japanese in the tags (am learning jp via self-teaching methods) and reblogging photos of Tokyo (mostly Shinjuku) and sometimes hot anime chicks. And then you get these LUNATIC ANONS 😭😭😭. I always get a revelation of, “Ah. I should be nice to myself.” Because holy shit they send me into hysterics.
My lunatic anons are totally normal idk what you mean
#snap chats#but fr theres nothing wrong with liking japanese (or culture different from your own in general) stuff#literally as long as youre respectful to actual people#and acknowledge People Are People and not a monolith youre ok !!!!#i get that concern sometimes too ngl but then i know im just being paranoid#its fun sharing culture.. just be respectful of it and the people…#the anons should keep sending me funny Asian Guy asks tho they always take me out brWKNDSKSJ#but yeah remember team all asian guys are cute and awkward. very important notes to have#much love anon good luck with the learning !!!

I feel the problem with texts like The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Sunset Boulevard, and The Memory Police is that my analysis feels too off-the-wall compared to what they want us to regurgitate ._.
#Like... did nobody catch on the abusive household environment Christopher was in during CIDNT? HIS DAD LITERALLY PUNCHED HIM#Though perhaps I was uniquely advantaged in analysing that text because everyone else was thrown off by the autistic protagonist#meanwhile me... who is all too damn aware.......#it didn't distract me from the real meat of the novel at all. I just went 'oh so this is your flavour of 'tism' and looked for the real#substance hidden between the lines~#In SB nobody seems to talk about Norma's cluster b disordered personality as being a product of her environment#or her seeming overreliance on horoscopes and outside opinion because having her life dictated by others prevents her from focussing on the#painful truth of her situation#And now the novel i'm currently doing which already seems to be versed in the imperfections of japanese culture#i had a thought connecting the idea of 'the new cavities in my heart search for things to burn'#and the book-burning later in the novel which stirs up the protagonists memory of things it shouldn't-- birds for one#consistently when things are destroyed in this novel it creates some emotional response in the townspeople#and that's the reason they hunger for destruction? It breaks their emotional numbness? They're trying to fill their heart's holes.#Fire is antithetical to snow too; the persistent winter is explicitly a symbol for the persistent nothingness that the island is becoming#Hhhhh i know it's all vague conjecture atm but i know the teachers are gonna hate it :/#i feel like the one thing english as a class has taught me is that any expression of my written creativity is wrong ^^;

analyzing hermes, emet-selch, the ancients and ascians, how they're written, and the fandom's reaction to them be like hm. emet-selch's role in this fuckery is compounded by the fact that his backstory as a genocide survivor is incongruous with his ruling a huge genocidal colonialist world power in the present da [ANTISEMITISM BLAST]
#ffxiv#ffxiv hermes#emet-selch#i have Posts in Me to write up about the subject but like you can maybe immediately start connecting some dots here lmao#hermes and the ancients lie at the intersection of A Lot of Shit That is Very Important to Me#the vast majority of it having to do with gaslighting in various different forms#one of those posts is going into how his story reminds me eerily of what Questioning Things in an abusive evangelical environment is like#and how the fandom instantly jumping straight to OH SO YOU THINK THE ANCIENTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN GENOCIDED IS THAT IT#YOU THINK THEY SHOULD BE INFANTILIZED AND CIVILIZED BY THE SUPERIOR MORALS OF YOUR OWN CULTURE IS THAT IT#and start throwing around words like 'sympathizer'; if you say 'hermes was right about some shit actually'#'what we see of the ancients' society is full of inexcusably horrific shit which does not get a pass for ~different values~'#smacks strongly to me of evangelical crybullying in the name of Cultural Sensitivity#and how people use 'well it's not my business what other cultures think is right or wrong' as an excuse to throw up their hands and#disengage from actually learning about or supporting the people in those cultures who know and are working within it to fight bigotry#amazingly enough 'racism and misogyny and queerphobia are bad' is not an idea exclusive to western cultures lmfao#your job if you engage is to seek out those people--across the spectrum of opinions and relationships to their culture's issues!#they're not a monolith!--and spread that information; and listen to what they ask of you when they tell you what kind of help they need#but that's complicated; and takes time and care and thought and effort and connecting to marginalized people#talking over activists and victims of the societal issues they live with; and telling them they're the same as colonizers; is easy-peasy#like i cannot stress enough here that hermes Is an Ancient. He Lives Here. He Knows His Society and Thinks About It a Lot#He Wants to Salvage It and is Specifically Fucked Up About Feeling Like He Can't Trust People Around Him for Input#WoL doesn't barge in and start telling the ancients what's what; they find the person who Cares and back him up that he's not crazy or alon#anyway there's a lot here but it is uh. a Lot. the ways in which the game blends up christianity and judaism here.#including the fact that between the two; the default cultural values and dynamics align more with christian associations of Conformity#(the game is by japanese creators and i feel like that's A Factor too; but there are Eerily Accurate evangelical things going on here)#and people cape for the ones who are Most Evangelical about it + the one whose Compelling Aspects are all antisemitic as fuck tropes#whereas the brown guy who grapples with his faith and worldview; who questions and challenges and argues with others in his ethnoreligion#and tries to look for perspective and deeper meaning + Improve Society Somewhat; gets torn apart in the worst faith possible by the fandom#ffxivtag#warning: worm grass

Extremely entertaining to me that the fan translations for this song are all very polite and fantastical but the subtitles on the official video say bullshit in the chorus
#prsk#project sekai#i wonder if its a direct translation or a google one#or one of those times where the fan translation isnt WRONG but theres like#a cultural language cue they werent aware of#like with the whole Sand Planet vs DUNE debate because fan translators at the time#didnt pick up that the title was written exactly how the Japanese title of DUNE by frank herbert is#anyways i did this on co-op earlier but i wanted a video because the chart is fun#but i ended up in a rabbit hole and got very distracted
