Danganronpa Rebirth - Voice Actor Headcanons.
So here’s the latest update of this little series on my blog where I assign official voice actors to characters that don’t have them. Today we’re doing another Fanganronpa, Danganronpa Rebirth.
Now as per usual, I need to point out a few things.
This is NOT CANON. These are HEADCANONS and are unofficial. It’s just a hypothetical situation. If the characters were voiced, this is who I imagine would voice them.
I am aware of RebirthVoices being a thing, and this post is not to besmirch them or their work or effort. This is just a hypothetical cast that Chunsoft would probably hire assuming Rebirth was actually a canon game in the series.
I did the same thing with other fangans in the past, SDRA2 and Blowback. Check those out if you’re interested.
This series ended up becoming a lot more popular than I initially thought, so I’m just gonna keep up the apparent good work. So without further ado, I hope you enjoy my ideas. Or don’t. Your choice.
Ayumu Fujimori - KALIN COATES

Heaven and Earth / Discernment of Heaven and Earth - 10
(Unproofread)
Prev | Chapter List | Next
Keito: This is just a theory that Hideyoshi-sensei came up with, but the content of what someone is saying doesn't matter as much as the person saying them.
Keito: For instance, back when Kiryu was attending Yumenosaki Academy, he would frequently doze off during his classes.
Kuro: I’m bein’ attacked outta nowhere… But I really couldn’t help it, they were so borin’.
Keito: But naturally, Kiryu doesn’t fall asleep when he’s talking to me or Kanzaki. Why is that?
Kuro: Well, that’s ‘cause it’s rude, ain’t it?
Souma: Slumbering whilst class is in session is also considered rude, Kiryu-dono.
Keito: Yes. However, though Kiryu falls asleep when he’s in class, he doesn’t fall asleep while talking with us. What’s the difference?
Keito: It’s possible that this is due to the difference in how likable Kiryu finds the person speaking to him.
Keito: The fact is, that it’s rude to fall asleep when the other person is making an effort to talk to you. Obviously, if you act rude, you will be disliked.
Keito: However, even though Kiryu is okay with being disliked by the teachers at the academy, he doesn’t want us to dislike him.
Keito: Therefore, he concludes that he shouldn’t fall asleep when we talk to him.
Koga: What’re ya goin’ on about?
Keito: You could apply the same formula to viewers of a show.
Keito: They listen with interest, and can even remember trivial details, as long as the person saying it happens to be their favorite character or celebrity.
Keito: Like how children can’t remember historical dates, but can easily rattle off the names of a hundred, maybe even two hundred of their favorite P*kemon.
Keito: If you want someone to listen to you, you have to be liked by them first.
Keito: That’s what the story is for.
Keito: We’ll hire professional mangaka and scriptwriters, and have them create an exceptionally captivating story.
Keito: We’ll become characters in this story, beloved by the audience.
Keito: Hopefully, ones that they might excitedly watch over the fate of.
Keito: The audience can ‘experience’ various historical events through the eyes of our characters.
Koga: Right, I remember you sayin’ somethin’ about time-travel.
Keito: Yes. In order to right historical wrongs, we travel through time and space.
Keito: For example, we could arrive at the scene of the Battle of Sekigahara and witness Ishida Mitsunari at the mercy of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Souma: Ishida Mitsunari, he says. ♪
Koga: What’s Zakki laughin’ about?
Kuro: Don’t worry about it. Anyways, we’re gonna ‘experience’ various historical events like this.
Kuro: That’s how we’re gonna make it interestin’ to watch. ‘Cause even if ya say, “There was some war in the somethin’ era that made the Shogunate do somethin’ or the other”, it’s hard to understand when it’s in plain ‘words.’
Kuro: But if it’s in story form, like in a manga or movie, you’d be able to sorta remember, even if it’s fuzzy.
Keito: Right. Even complex laws and the like can be made easy to understand when presented in manga form.
Keito: Rather, instead of being a collection of tedious sentences, it becomes something you’d ‘want to read’, right?
Keito: So if we construct ‘Rumbling Heaven and Earth’ like a movie or manga, even people who don’t have much interest in history might ‘want to see.’
Keito: Even more so if it involves popular idols and voice actors.
Souma: To that end is what the, erm, ‘meedeea-mikusu’ strategy we discussed prior is for.
Koga: Well, I think I kinda understand what you guys’re gettin’ at now.
Koga: So basically, in order to make the slightly complicated educational show ‘Rumbling Heaven and Earth’ easier to understand, you’ve prepared a load of interestin’ gimmicks, right?
Koga: But I’m pretty sure one of those idiot ‘Three Sages’, Ieyasu-sensei, said somethin’ about not wantin’ ‘Rumbling Heaven and Earth’ to change at all.
Koga: Is it really okay to make such bold changes? Won’t it upset that big-shot historian?
Kuro: I doubt Ieyasu-sensei’d be offended by us doin’ that. Actually, he’d probably be real happy to hear it and say somethin’ like: “The youth are so spirited and free, how wonderful!”
Kuro: And of course, we’ve thought about this point as well. Ain’t that right, Hasumi?
Keito: Yes. I- We are always prepared.
Keito: The episode of ‘Rumbling Heaven and Earth R’ we’re currently recording isn’t scheduled to be broadcast. It’s like sample food.
Keito: We’ll be producing the version of ‘Rumbling Heaven and Earth’ that we came up with as a test. If it turns out to be unfit for consumption, we’ll rebuild it from the ground up.
Keito: There's too much risk involved in doing it off the cuff, so it’s important to look before you leap.
Koga: Hah, that’s just typical of you guys.
Keito: However, this isn’t just a prototype. There’s a twist to this too.
Keito: In this prototype episode, the era that we ‘Spirits of Light’ are going to is—

GudaGuda: The Ieyasu Implication (feat. Bluebell)
source:
source
Commentary:
Art by the talented Bluebell, who did last year's New Year's Special comic if you recall.
Now that I think about it, perhaps the reason Ieyasu hasn't shown up in FGO or even REDLINE is that his very character arc seems to break conventional narrative. He is a man who, from even his formative years of being a political hostage, seemed destined to be fodder. There's this sense that if he had been a cast member in a story rather than a real life guy, he would've been killed during either Akechi or Mitsunari's respective coups to establish a threat level. By that same token, maybe it would've been apt if he had suffered a karmic Agamemnon-esque demise for killing his own son - or perhaps his son would escape the assassination attempt and become the protagonist in a narrative where he must oppose his father's (and his father's friends') tyranny.
But that doesn't happen. He survives both coups thanks to a bunch of grit, a bit of luck, and a lot of help from his pals (Hanzo, Mototada, etc.). He successfully executes his treasonous kid. And then that kid's mother (but not their daughter who wasn't as traitorous as either of them). And not only does he wind up becoming shogun despite being kind of typical compared to Nobunaga (wildcard madman) and Hideyoshi (rags-to-royalty tactician), but he also got a consort, and then remarried, and after his second wife tragically died soon after of natural causes, he threw up his hands and decided to go full harem route over a dozen strong and spread himself around, resulting in a grand SPECULATED low-ball estimate total of 20 kids by the time he croaked (placing him below Nobunaga's 28 and above Hideyoshi's 4, if you're curious).
But he's not all villainy and vice either. Despite being less exciting (and charismatic) than either of his predecessors, he managed to strike up a lot of genuine friendships, alliances, and associations. A lot of which are tied into his abilities as a Servant.
And as harsh as his treatment of his aforementioned scion was, he was also capable of mercy. Which, arguably, almost makes that whole filicidal capital punishment decision worse. Most crucially, he voluntarily provided sanctuary to the remnants of the Iga ninja clan after they had been shattered by Nobunaga in conjunction with their rivals, the Koga clan. And then doing the same to what was left of the Koga clan when Nobunaga turned on them, because while Nobunaga was fond of tricky gambits, he did not like being made the victim of sneak attacks and guerrilla warfare himself. Just ask those warrior monks. In fact, it’s rumored that the sniper Sugitana Zenjubo who tried to assassinate him twice was a ninja. Now, Ieyasu did not need to do this. Both clans were almost worthless in terms of military utility after this battle, and he could’ve easily curried favor with Nobunaga by using the ninjas as bargaining chips. Instead, he shielded them (this is how he met Hattori Hanzo). And years later, during Akechi’s coup, the typically feuding clans paid him back by escorting him across the country back to his territory when he was being hunted when they - still holding a grudge against Oda - could’ve just handed him over to Akechi and aided the usurper in defeating Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Nobunaga’s #2 who had been complicit in his many deeds both glorious and gruesome.
If Akechi is indeed Tenkai, then it speaks to Ieyasu’s capacity to forgive in his later years (though Chacha would understandably argue otherwise). And in FGO, this generosity imbues loyalty in Akechi so fierce that even with the entire Tokugawa lineage defeated in the Ooku Labyrinth Event, he sacrifices his life to in hopes of providing the means to defeat the mad God of Love to a potential rescuer.
So what you should glean from all this is that Ieyasu is a very wild and dark figure, but in a very unorthodox configuration. He’s not traditionally complex as much as he is objectively difficult to pigeonhole. Which is why his vassals like the Yagyu family, Adams, and Honda tend to assert themselves more easily in the minds of audiences since they can more easily synch with more concise archetypes. If Ieyasu shows up in a work of fiction, and he's not the antagonist, then chances are he'll be a supporting character at best.
Fate's rendition of him as a gloomy neurotic really intrigued me, because it was a uniquely sympathetic image. Writers tend to have him lean towards some combination of dull, cranky, or sly since to casual observation, he seemed to gain the title of shogun by just outlasting the two more interesting unifiers than through any real valor or cunning. In fact, some historians argue that his once audacious-seeming drum gambit after his defeat at the Battle of Mikatagahara - where he threw open the gates of his mostly empty stronghold and had drums played and torches lit to make it seem like he was trying to lead Takeda Shingen's forces to an obvious trap where a secret army would lie in wait - was an accidental side effect of him doing that to lead his scattered men to a rendezvous.
These four unofficial yet really beautiful illustration of him by Dd (Mori Nagayoshi's artist) also helped construct the image of Ieyasu that i had in my head. He might be delicate, broken even, but he's still awfully dangerous because he's the guy who made it to the end of the line, and commanded the respect and loyalty of several Sengoku Era standouts. He's made the tough choices, the huge mistakes, the crucial plays, and while they were truly awful experiences, they were well worth it even if he occasionally stares off into the distance and wonders why he can't taste food sometimes.
To wit, milquetoast sub-boss turned sinister seinen final boss a fraction of the time, and this the rest of the time.
And I think you could still reconcile this with his original draft as just a body double of Ieyasu who can use his link to more legitimate warriors. Just have him be the real one and then have him pretend to be an innocent body double whenever he can't be bothered to deal with anyone who has an axe to grind with him (Amakusa, Muramasa, Chacha, and whoever else). Or if he must be a body double, then at least give him some agency and incorporate as much of the historical Ieyasu's bonkers journey into his character. If he must be a Pretender, make him a great one.
Hopefully, it would make Ieyasu a fascinatingly uncomfortable figure in a franchise where the likes of Bluebeard and Ivan the Terrible already exist.
So I wanted to somehow encapsulate all that with this comic where Akechi is reminded that while Nobu might be his god, and Hideyoshi his enemy, Ieyasu was his BOSS until the day he died, and forgave him for the assassination attempt rather than execute him for this insult like he did with member of his own immediate family for reasons he may never know.
So I can't blame Hidetada for listening to his father often during the Ooku event as, well, see above.
That said, neither the Ooku event or this comic are entirely accurate, as while Hidetada was his favorite son and successor, they did have their disagreements, particularly with how to deal with the remnants of the Toyotomi (who Hidetada had once been a hostage to as a child, much like his father was to the Oda). Their joint inability to come up with an acceptable solution for all sides during a period of purported peace was one of the core contributing factors to the 1614 Siege of Osaka coming to pass, which would be Ieyasu's final military campaign (don't get too excited, he died a year after it was over).
Gudaguda as a storyline seems to really like the story arc of an individual naturally talented genius who made history but whose downfall was caused by their inability to emotionally connect with the 'normal' people around them, so Ieyasu as the bland, unmistakably human guy who just happened to outlast all of the flaming dumpsterfires on team 'Unifying the nation through force' seems a bit too slippery to slot into the story in the same way as Nobu or Kagetora.
Ironically, Fate Ieyasu's probably a bit further down the road from where Guda's mental state is heading at this point, someone who was incredibly human but still strong-willed, and earned the respect of legendary heroes and mythical warriors, but has been cracking slowly for quite a long time under the shee
r weight of responsibility that's been on their shoulders.
I feel like if any character can convince Guda to get some fucking help for their brain problems, it would be Ieyasu.

I realized something. In your non-despair au Ouma is one of the Rebirth kids but the thing I don't understand is why they're all still in Hope's Peak. The program was meant to remove their talents completely and also Hope's Peak is meant for those who are the best in their field-which makes me dislike Saihara even more. If he's SHSL detective Kirigiri must be rolling in her grave.- With their talents weakened their not SHSLs so how are they Hope's Peak students?
In my non-despair AU the Talent Removal Project is a project affiliated with Hopespeak Re:Birth says not everyone wants to go down the road of being burdened with their talent, which might limit what their future holds for them. Additionally, there is a fear that certain talents may be misused for evil purposes such as murder. As such, the “Talent Removal Project” was founded basically I think that for all the love of SHSL’s there would logically be some that fear them so there would be a branch in Hopespeak that would look at the Hopespeak students and offer them a chance to remove their talent, it’s kind of like how there was an elementary school affiliated with Hopespeak that researched child talent and many of those kids would grow up to be SHSL.
They’d start as Hopespeak students and transfer to a different faction to remove their talents so they’d be more affiliated than anything but still treated as Hopespeak students for the most part, the way I’d see it they’re held in more regard than the Reserve Course but less than the Main Course a sort of middle ground if you would.
The talent removal project was founded also primarily due to similar reasons why Saihara got his talent. In a previous post I explained that I think that some SHSL’s get their titles due to Hopespeak wanting to stay in a positive light in the public eye so that they can keep nurturing propper SHSL’s so they can ‘bring hope to the world with their talent’. So Hopespeak has to do their best to remain in a positive light especially since their funding comes from the government, alumni and Reserve Course fees, if they fall out of favor no one would want to pay the Reserve Course fees since they mostly go for the ‘brand’ and the government wouldn’t want to fund them either so they need to do things such as give SHSL Titles to people who don’t really deserve them but are in the public eye to stay in a positive light and have things like the ‘Talent Removal Project’ for ‘dangerous’ talent to make sure the public doesn’t fear SHSL’s.
A student can either volunteer to enter or be volunteered by a family member. Volunteered students are interviewed by school officials before admission, but people who are volunteered by a family member are forcibly admitted. So Hopespeak students can volunteer to remove their talent but they have to be approved of by the staff before they are transferred over. So all the Re:Birth kids were Hopespeak kids in different classes in their first year before moving to the Talent Removal Project in their second year and spending the last two years of Highschool there.
The reasons for the Re:Birth class joining are these:
1.Fujimori Ayumu- SHSL Unlucky Student
Volunteered by his sister. He also believes his talent to unpleasant. The government also insisted on his participation after it was rumored his bad luck caused multiple plain crashes.
2. Yodogawa Seishi- SHSL Mystery Novelist (Lie)/ SHSL Hitman
Claims that his writing has become too violent and wants to try writing other genre’s but in actuality, it’s in order to murder Ayumu. He’s not interested in removing his talent.
3. Koga Mitsunari- SHSL Ventriloquist
Is concerned his puppets have a stronger personality than himself.
4.Rokudō Saiji- SHSL Undertaker
Was volunteered by his parents because they want him to make friends, but his talent makes people his own age avoid him.
5.Tsuchiya Akira- SHSL NEET
Claims it is because his mother wants him to conquer his past image and be able to go outside again.
6.Sakuma Kēgo- SHSL DJ
In order to cut his ties with the criminal society. (Why are all the tiny ones involved in crime?)
7.Samejima Kazuomi- SHSL Karate Practitioner
So he can enjoy his life peacefully, without drawing people’s attention.
8. Itsuki Mikoto- SHSL ???/ SHSL Secret Agent
In order to investigate and arrest Yodogawa and protect Ayumu, she’s not interested in removing her talent. She doesn’t even come up with an excuse she’s just there to do her job but she eventually ends up caring about these people.
9. Himuro Nico- SHSL Poet
Because she got bored of her talent.
10. Kagura Maiko- SHSL Dancer
Volunteered by her parents as they are worried about her future because she accepts job requests and this is injuring her legs.
11. Izumo Kasumi- SHSL Spirit Medium
Was volunteered by her parents because they want her to make living friends.
12. Aisaka Misuzu- SHSL Shrine Maiden
Was volunteered by her parents as they are worried about how she overworks herself because she treats her responsibilities as a holy mission.
13. Ōsone Narumi- SHSL Gourmet
She wants to become a normal girl who can talk about love while eating the small servings of food they usually serve at girls-only parties.
14. Ouma Kokichi- SHSL Supreme Leader
He wants to learn how to be more honest with himself and others and be able relationships and friendships with other people
15.Todoroki Aruma- SHSL Animal Trainer
Because her doctor told her she gets too excited when taming and this makes her blood pressure rise to a point her life is at risk.
16.Mizuta Marin- SHSL Weather Forecaster
She works 24/7 to gather data for weather forecasts, so she doesn’t get any free time, and she wants to spend more time with her family and friends.
As you can see the talent is either holding them back from other things, a danger to themselves or a danger to society, I hope this was able to explain a little bit about how the Talent Removal Project Works even if three of it’s participants aren’t even there to remove their talent.
