“You look lovely. The colours of Asgard suit you well,” Thor says, his eyes raking over your figure from behind.

Adorning your body is a soft linen gown, the colour of cream. It is cut low in the front, a style Thor assured you is common in his kingdom, and has many different folds and layers to it, making it flow with every step you take.

The fabric itself is lightweight, and the straps lie thinly on your shoulders. The waistline is decorated with gleaming golden gems and is cinched rather tightly.

Over your shoulders is a dark red cape, the same colour as Thor’s.

Your hair is tied up away from your face intricately and elegantly, and a dainty diamond necklace rests around your neck.

You turn to face him, a deep feeling of unease settling in your stomach.

“What is to happen now?” You wonder aloud, eyes fluttering past his face and around the chambers that he’s deemed to be yours for the time being.

“Now we wait. The kings should be here soon, and then we will inform them of the letter you received. I promise you’ll be safe here, Petal.” He cups your cheeks and you swallow hard, nervous about the change in his attitude towards you.

“Thor?” You ask softly, taking a half-step backward in an attempt at removing yourself from his grip.

He surges forward, one hand dropping from your face to wrap around your waist as his lips crash against yours in a fierce and dominating kiss.

Your heart races in your chest and you shove against his face, trying to force him away from you.

Helplessness fills you as you realize that you’ll never be able to overpower him, and dread settles in your gut as he pushes you back until you’re pressed against the wall.

Your muffled cries for help, for him to stop, fall on deaf ears as his lips continue their assault against yours, prying yours open to give his tongue access to your mouth.

Thinking quick, you grip his bottom lip and bite down as hard as you can, drawing blood and successfully making him pull away from you.

He jumps back, one hand coming up to his mouth while you scramble back and away from him, chest heaving and eyes full of betrayal.

His jaw clenches and he takes a step towards you, only to stop when the doors to your chambers burst open.

“(Y/n)!” A familiar voice calls, two men rushing into the room and searching for you.

The tension in the room is palpable and the two Kings pick up on it instantly, their guards raising as they see the way you’re cowering from the blond King before you.

“Are we interrupting something?” Steve asks, his voice ringing with authority.

“No,” you say quickly, regaining your composure and squaring your shoulders as the words of the Valkyrie ring in your ears.

“Thor was just taking his leave,” you say pointedly, staring the King down for a long moment until he nods, bows then spins on his heel and leaves without a word.

You take a deep breath, power and fear chasing each other through your veins while your heart races in your chest.

“(Y/n), are you alright?” Steve asks softly, taking a step towards you and reaching for your hand. You yank it back towards your body, levelling him with a glare.

“If my purpose was solely to bear children, then why are you here if I failed?” The blond glances over at his husband, unsure of how he should address this.

“It is obviously not a secret. I have been threatened even since my departure, and the truth has been brought to my attention. So I ask again, why are you here?” James takes a careful step towards you, and then another, and another until he is standing just directly in front of you.

You keep your shoulders squared and your head held high, refusing to back down.

“(Y/n), there are things we must tell you... things we have not been completely honest about... things that involve our union, and our actions towards you. Will you allow us time to be honest with you?” You swallow hard but nod, wanting nothing more than the truth after all this time in the dark.

James takes your hand delicately in both of his and ushers you to the bed, sitting down beside you while Steve sits on your other side.

The brunet speaks first.

“We were told... by our council that we needed to find a wife. When they heard of our plans to join the two kingdoms of the North and wed each other... they tried to find any way to stop it. But upon seeing our power they relented until they realized that our reign would end if we did not have a queen.

“They gave us a timeframe to find a queen. One that could give us heirs and continue the lineage of both of us. We were presented with many women but you... you stood out from the many faces we saw.”

You frown, brows drawn together tightly as you ponder this.

“My purpose... right from the beginning was nothing more than what you had told me. What you said was true. What I was told is nothing but the truth,” you whisper to James, fighting back the tears that prick at your eyes.

Steve shakes his head, leaning closer to engage in the conversation. “No. Your purpose was... is to be our wife. A queen to our people and the mother of our children. You are meant to rule alongside us, not be behind or beneath us. You are our equal, although we have not treated you as such.”

You sniffle, shaking your head as if trying to shake your feelings away.

“Why have you treated me the way that you have? Why? What have I done to deserve such hostility?”

The two exchange long glances before James sighs and takes your hand, leading it to the thin scar at the base of his skull.

“Someone has operated on me. Altered me in a way that makes me hostile towards you and Steven. We do not know who, but we know that they are close enough to be near me without raising suspicion. I will never be able to apologize enough for my actions. I have hurt you far more than I ever could have imagined myself capable of. But with the help of doctor Banner, we were hoping to have more clues as to who is responsible for this. However, he is still in quite an unstable condition.”

You swallow hard, this new information having you beyond overwhelmed.

“Who would conspire against you in such a way? Who would have such hatred in their heart for the two of you that they would take it out on me?” The two kings sigh, their hearts heavy and their eyes filled with sadness.

“We do not know. But one thing is certain: we will not rest until we figure out who it is and until they are brought to justice.”

The two Kings settle in the guest chambers for the night, having insisted that you get your own space and that you are welcome to join them if you feel so inclined.

Your mind is still in shambles, thoughts scattered and emotions all over the continent as you prepare for bed.

A knock on your door pulls you from your thoughts and you softly call for them to enter, your guard raising in an instant.

“How may I help you, Your Majesty?” You ask, jaw clenched tightly.

Thor takes a deep breath then lets it out, pacing slowly around your chambers.

“I stepped very far out of line, (Y/n). I let my emotions get the better of me and I was foolish. I apologize sincerely for my actions.” You watch him with furrowed brows, not sure if you should trust him.

“You have... entranced me. Bewitched me. Your husbands have not treated you fairly and, even in the short time that I've known you, I can tell that you are a woman deserving of the world. And if the world cannot be given to you then you deserve everything in it. And yet here you are, cowering from your own kingdom because they failed to protect you.” You want to interrupt. To tell him that he is not aware of the extent of the trauma that the Kings themselves have faced, but you hold your tongue instead.

“I can only hope that one day you will be able to forgive what has transpired today. For I value your company and your companionship and I would be devastated to lose it in any way. However, I will not blame you if you were to push me away. I was out of line and I allowed myself to be weak in a moment when I should have been strong. You needn’t give me an answer tonight, but I am offering my sincerest apologies. While you are here the Palace is yours. Anything you require will be brought to you promptly.”

He’s quiet for a moment before clearing his throat, his eyes on the ground.

“I bid thee goodnight, and I hope pleasant dreams find you tonight.” He turns to leave and you sigh, shaking your head.

“Thor, wait.” He does, turning back to look at you with those soft blue eyes of his.

“I appreciate and accept your apology. I do not look at you any differently because of what transpired, and I am grateful that you came to explain it. I appreciate your friendship and I am glad to have found solace in you, and it would be a shame to squander it over something so trivial.” He smiles, relief and happiness plain as day on his face.

“Good. Thank you for your understanding, (Y/n). Goodnight.” He leaves without another word and you put your head in your hands, beyond confused and frustrated with the feelings stirring inside of you.

You would be lying if you said that the Asgardian King wasn’t attractive. And he has been a friend in times when you’ve otherwise had none.

Shaking the intrusive thoughts out of your head, you exit your chambers and pad softly down the hall, stopping in front of the chambers that have been set aside for your husbands.

You knock twice, butterflies finding a home in your belly as you wait for one of them to allow you entrance.

The door gets pulled open and James stands in front of you, the formal look on his face dropping to give way to a soft smile.

“May I join the two of you tonight?” You ask quietly, looking between him and Steve. The blond looks on eagerly from his spot on the bed, nodding his head quickly.

“Of course, My love.” You bow your head in thanks and enter the room, oblivious to the eyes following your every move from a dark corner of the hallway.

The door shuts behind you but you continue to the bed, crawling on next to Steve while James extinguishes the lanterns lighting the room.

Steve makes room for you in the centre of the bed, pushing the blankets aside to allow you to get comfortable. James climbs on behind you, waiting until you’re settled to get comfortable himself.

Neither of the Kings touch you. No, they stay a respectable distance away.

“I am not so angry that I will not allow my husbands to embrace me,” you say softly, eyes closed as the events of the day catch up to you.

You’re then being held on either side by strong arms and right then and there, in that very moment, you feel the safest you have ever felt in your life.

Candle Light and Plastic Bats by @jackdaw-kraai 10k. you know all those hc and concept fics about the relationship batman has with the city of gotham? well this fic is an absolutely gorgeous homage to that. told from the pov of the people of lower gotham, it goes through their relationship with this demon that seemed to haunt their city, going from mistrust and fear to acceptance and kinship. just a really really beautiful fic. 

Detective Work by @bekkoni ~8k. i don’t actually ship superbat for a multitude of reasons, but this fic was so goddamn hilarious and cute that i can’t not love it. set in the jlu universe, wally discovers that superman and batman are acting a little ~odd.~ then he does a little more snooping and dear god the consequences are hilarious. featuring identity porn by the bucket-load. 

It’s Your Right to Hurt Me Baby (If You Wanted To) by @pluckyredhead  8k. granted, jayroy doesn’t make much sense outside of specific rhato runs, but inside those runs its an actually beautiful ship, and this fic is just one of many testaments to that. smut with feelings, and jason gets the love and affection he sorely needs. 

Little Talks by @theo-ography 26k. who here doesn’t love dumb boys in love finally talking about their feelings?? because i love it more than words, but this author somehow did the impossible and managed to put it in words. in this series, dick and wally have some important conversations, do some cuddling, and finally get together. gosh, i love birdflash so. fucking. much. 

The Maybe Man by @dustorange ~48k. this is me, screaming about dustorange’s works again because i am such a fangirl for her writing oh my god. after dick leaves bruce and while jason is robin, dick gets abducted and tortured by the court of owls, and then is sent to kill bruce. and bruce fights with every fiber of his being to get his son back. also, jason and bruce’s relationship is so good in this jesus christ. i love reading fics that show just how close jason and bruce were before jason was killed, and this fic had that and more. 

Those Who Wait by @last01standing 11k. in a reverse robins fic done beautifully well, this entire fic is written from jon’s pov, and explores damian and jon’s relationship over the years. (basically, jon just falling more and more hopelessly in love with damian.) also, everyone ships it because jon is basically all of the kids’ “uncle jon” and it’s hilarious and i love it. one of my favourite damijon fics, and the p i n i n g is just AHHHH.

un haeng il chi by @danishsweethearts 17k. i can’t actually put into words how much i love this fic, so everyone needs to just go and read it right now so you feel what i feel when finishing this fic. a cass centric fic, this piece of art has the literal best characterizations and metaphors for those characterizations i’ve ever read in my entire life. cass’ relationship with each member of the batfam is unique and beautiful and dear god i could reread this fic a thousand times over without ever getting tired of it. 

Watch This by snackbaskets (again, if anyone knows their tumblr, please let me know!) ~2k. this fic is just a oneshot of pure adorableness. the league meets little baby robin!dick for the first time. hal and barry are, at first, terrified for the kid’s life, and then terrified of the devious little mastermind in bright green hotpants. this is just humor and fluff and i love it. 

Yesterday’s Voices by @lemonadegarden 49k. oh god i cannot scream my love for this fic enough. bruce, in a time with most of the batfam (including up to steph, damian, cass), gets de-aged to a time where jason was robin and dick was barely speaking to him. and it’s absolutely heartbreaking, because the rest of the batfam get to see how open, kind, and less jaded bruce used to be. if you want a good cry but a happy ending, this fic is wonderful.

if it were deemed socially acceptable, i would build a shrine to all of these wonderful authors in the middle of the street, but unfortunately i have neither the time nor the resources to do that, so i guess screaming about how talented and brilliant they are will have to do instead. hope you enjoy reading these babe!

The future is brighter for its existence. The curtains are thrown back and the light begins its work to disinfect and cleanse.

Ryan follows the instruction without questioning it, which probably says something about either his willingness to listen to Shane or his sanity. Maybe both; they go hand in hand. He puts on his blinker, even though they haven’t seen another car in a couple of minutes, and pulls off onto the shoulder.

“Are you gonna puke or something?” he asks, putting the car into park, as Shane takes off his seatbelt with one hand and tugs off his Ray Bans with the other.

“You better hope not,” he murmurs as he leans over the center console and kisses Ryan solidly on the mouth.

There were very few times in Sam’s life where he really and truly cried. Seeing the love of his life in the arms of the man he just barely trusted was definitely one of those times.

Stumbling back to his room, he couldn’t feel anything beyond numbness. There was a gaping hole in his chest where his love for you lived. Everything exploded inside him once he closed his bedroom door behind him. His bedroom that still smelled like you. His bedroom that still had your things in it. His bedroom that used to be yours too.

A lump formed painfully in his throat. Tears stung his eyes and he collapsed to the floor, head in his hands. Soul-wrenching grief weighed heavily on his shoulder. He couldn’t even be angry at you because he was the one who pushed you into Bucky’s arms. Another flash of you and Bucky invaded his mind. An anguished scream ripped itself from Sam’s throat as he pounded the floor. It was a damn good thing that Tony had this room sound proofed from your nightmare days. His ears echoed with the sounds you made for Bucky. It was a hell made personally for him. Exhaustion eventually took over as Sam cried himself to sleep. He was too little too late.

Bucky couldn’t believe that he finally your lips on his, your hands in his hair, your body beneath him. He couldn’t believe he had you in his bed. It was a dream, it had to be.

“That’s not the point, Buck. You of all people know how fragile she is. You can’t take just advantage of her like this.”

“‘Take advantage of her’? What the hell, Steve?! Is that what you think I’m doing? You of all people should know I’m not the same man I was when we were younger.”

“You’re right. That was low and I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry. I just- I don’t want to see her get hurt.”

“I wouldn’t hurt her,” Bucky stated. Steve quirked his eyebrow at this; Bucky wasn’t a bad guy, he really wasn’t. Steve loved him more than a brother but he couldn’t see a relationship between the two of you working out without someone ending up with a broken heart.

“What about Sam?”

“What about Sam?”

“You know how he feels about her. You said it yourself: he’s not going to react well when he finds out the two of you are together.”

“I love her, Steve!” Bucky shouted red-faced and breathless.

“Do you, Buck? Do you even know her?” Steve asked sadly.

“Of course I do!”

“Really?” What’s her favorite movie? What’s the one thing she craves to eat at 3 am? What are her goals? Do you even know her middle name?” Bucky stared at his best friend dumbfounded. He didn’t know the answer to any of these questions.

“Face it, Bucky. You don’t love her. You love how she makes you feel.” Steve shook his head at his idiot of a best friend and walked away. Bucky had always been a little selfish when it came to women but Steve never could have anticipated him going this far.

Natasha knew the moment she opened her eyes, today was going to be a shitstorm. She didn’t know how she knew but every single hair on her body stood on edge. Something told her James Buchanan Barnes was at the center of it all.

She’d always been the suspicious type, even before the Red Room, so when she found you in the library gleefully whistling, she knew.

“What’s got you so perky today, [Y/N]?”

“Oh…nothing,” you said coyly, “Just a good day is all.” Natasha rolled her eyes at this.

“Spill it,” she all but ordered.

“Come on, Tash. There’s nothing to tell!”

“I don’t have to be a super spy to know that you’re hiding something, babe.”

“Who’s hiding something?” came a chipper Sokovian accent.

“[Y/N],” Natasha said without missing a beat, “she thinks I can’t tell when she’s hiding something.”

“Is this about Bucky kissing her last night?”

“Wanda!” you scolded, “You promised you wouldn’t read my mind!” Wanda held her hands up defensively, shaking her head.

“I swear I didn’t! I went to get some water from the kitchen last night when I caught the two of you going at it on the counter.” You groaned in embarrassment. Unbeknownst to the two of you, Natasha was quietly seething in rage.

“Oh god, I thought everyone was asleep!” Wanda snorted at you.

“So…” Wanda nudged your arm suggestively, “did anything else happen?”

You grinned sheepishly, “No, but I wouldn’t have complained if it did. He was really sweet about respecting my boundaries. Hey…where’d Tasha go?” Both you and Wanda were surprised to find the spy had disappeared during your conversation. This was completely unlike her; Natasha never passed up good gossip.

“I’m sure she’ll be back,” Wanda soothed, patting your arm gently. “So, tell me everything! How did it happen? Who kissed who? Was he a good kisser??”

You and Wanda descended into a fit of giggles as you filled her in on the joys of kissing Bucky Barnes. 

Bucky should have known Natasha would make good on her threat once she found out he didn’t do what she told him. He couldn’t have known she’d hunt him down to a briefing with Tony, Steve, and Bruce just to make good on it. No one was more surprised than he was when she suddenly burst into the conference room, grabbed him by the collar and sucker-punched him in the face. It was this exact moment that an emotionally and physically exhausted Sam Wilson decided to finally join the meeting he was already forty-five minutes late for.

“Oh shit!”

“Romanoff, what the hell?!”

“Christ, Nat!”

The room exploded into chaos as Steve and Bruce rushed over to keep Natasha from quite literally beating some sense into Bucky. Bucky didn’t say anything. Blood gushed from his nose while Natasha fiercely struggled against Steve’s grip in an attempt to hit him again.

“That’s enough!” Steve shouted. Natasha finally stopped fighting but her furious gaze never left Bucky’s face. Steve shared her feelings.

“Does someone want to explain to me just what the hell is going on here?” asked Tony.

“Why don’t you ask Barnes?” she seethed.

Looking from one angry Russian to the other, Tony sighed in resignation. “Barnes, care to enlighten me?”

“Not really,” he mumbled.

“Well somebody is going to explain why she’s going around sucker punching people in the middle of mission briefings.”

“Does this have anything to do with what you told me earlier, Buck?” Steve asked. His disappointment eyebrows were on in full force. Bucky nodded, trying his best to disappear into the seat. Steve sighed heavily and ran his hand over his face. Does the serum protect against heart attacks because he was pretty sure his stress level might bring one on.

“Is somebody going to fill me in?” Tony questioned. Agitation shone clearly on his face.

“Barnes here couldn’t keep it in his fucking pants. He made a move on [Y/N], last night,” she answered.

“What [Y/N]? …Sam’s [Y/N]? The girl he’s been in love with for years? That [Y/N]?” Natasha nodded, rolling her eyes at Tony.

“You know what, Nat? Hit him again, clearly, his common sense missed the mark the first time around.”

“I didn’t know he was in love with her until yesterday!” Bucky cried.

“Bullshit,” Sam snarled. Everyone whirled around to see him standing in the doorway, visibly shaking in anger.

“…Sam, I—I’m sorry. I swear I didn’t know.”

“Tell it to someone who cares Barnes. I should have known better than to trust you.” Sam forced himself to turn around and leave the conference room. It was too tempting to follow Natasha’s lead. He got the shock of his life to see you and Wanda standing behind him with identical stunned expressions.

“….You’re in love with me?”

Oh…shit.
