Once the mods do February’s activity check (or before the end of March), I’m going to put in a drop for all of my muses (Shibata Katsuie on @geometragic​, Azai Nagamasa on @absurdjustice, and Kato Kiyomasa on @tigerstrategist). Also, I’m cutting down a lot on social media in general for the sake of my mental health, and I’m going to accomplish that in part by leaving Tumblr completely. I’m really thankful for all of my rp partners on here (both indie and in Isola) and the threads I had with all of you ! I just don’t have the time or energy anymore for roleplaying that I had before I started my job, and I don’t want my portrayals of any of my muses to suffer because of it. ^^;

Summary:

MC is grocery shopping, accompanied by Kansuke who had the free time. They walk to the market in silence. MC thinks about how when she first met Kansuke, his expressionless self made the silence uncomfortable. Now, to MC his quiet presence feels very pleasant.

At the grocery store, MC is grabbing all the stuff she needs. She sees Kansuke pick up a winter melon (see notes after summary). When she asks about it, Kansuke tells her Harunobu (Shingen) likes to eat it.

MC says they have no choice but to buy some. Kansuke agrees, but says they will have it shipped since they’re carrying too many groceries.

MC and Kansuke walk back home. Kansuke stops at a sweet shop and says they should buy some for Shingen. MC watches as Kansuke deeply and seriously peruses the selection for the right sweets.

MC muses how Kansuke always thinks about Shingen and what Shingen likes. This makes MC wonder “what does Kansuke like?” She laughs out loud at the answer (Shingen). Kansuke questions her. She laughs as she tells him “I was just thinking about how you always think about Shingen.”

Kansuke turns to her and says

“… That’s not right.”

MC is confused about his cold answer.

“It’s not just Harunobu.”

Very quickly, she realizes that both of her hands are wrapped together inside Kansuke’s. His hands are large and warm. He tells her (make note of that sneaky SMILE)

“… It’s pretty cold today.”

MC shyly tells him his hands are warm.

“I’m thinking about you, too.”

Kansuke breathes into his hands to warm hers. MC feels not only her hands getting warm, but her whole body and face. Kansuke watching her this entire time only makes her blush even harder. He asks her if she’s warmed up, which she says yes to. He then goes

“Your face is red.”

MC thinks he’s a bully LOL. Kansuke lets go of her hands. Even though his touch is gone, the warmth he gave her still lingers. MC is pretty hot and bothered, but also really happy with what Kansuke thinks of. Kansuke tells her they should go and extends a hand to her. MC happily takes his warm hand and holds it tightly.

This is the winter melon 冬瓜 (tougan), also known as wax goard, that Kansuke says Shingen likes.

Interestingly it ripens when it’s hot, but its waxy skin makes it easy to store during winter, hence the name winter melon (according to this blog - which has a nice recipe too).

Apparently the vegetable itself is pretty bland, so preparation is important for incorporating flavors. I looked at a few winter melon recipes (like here on cookpad, sorry I’m a fatass) and it seems like there’s a bit you can do with it. Soups, salads, candied winter melon, etc.

   FOR WHEN THE FESTIVITIES OF THAT DAY HAD ENDED, so thankfully would the PEACE still remain. Burning adrenaline and determination from the battle beforehand– had for the time being died down with each beat of the heart. 

   WITH THE NIGHT AIR cool against flushed skin (A reminder of the sake bottle that he had taken away with him from the banquet, the one that he was still holding briskly between his fingertips), and crickets chirping rhythmically away in the background. The nearby brook was gushing gently away, blending almost perfectly with the rest of the sounds that could be heard then. MASANORI, out of all of them, was most likely out by this stage, having never been the best drinker out of them all. LORD HIDEYOSHI and LADY NENE were perhaps still making sure that all their guests were perfectly accommodated during their stay at the castle. For he was sure that neither (The latter especially) would have allowed anyone to return home this late during the night. And so, the only one left was–

   TURNING HIS SIGHTS AWAY from the pale moon, Kiyomasa had needed a second or two for his vision to readjust upon MITSUNARI. Standing amidst the waist high grass, and the swaying fireflies that had almost appeared to light up a little path between the two of them. With him sitting below one of the tallest trees, and with the other just standing between he and the way back to the castle itself.

   “… Good, so you haven’t decided to drown yourself in paperwork, just this once.” An invitation from him, with a little roll of his head and shoulders. As he adjusted himself to settle a little more comfortably against the bark behind him, whilst his shadowed gaze still fixed itself solely on the other then.

He hasn’t left the office in days. He works and works, only allowing Kiyomasa, Masanori, and his father to see him. The other two boys try to get him to sleep, but he refuses to until exhaustion forces his eyes close, only to wake once more a mere hour or two later. He eats little and talks even less. His eyes are empty, and his friends can’t help but wonder how much around him he actually sees. How much actually reaches him.

He has to make Aurora great, though, for her. She chose him, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make her proud. Even when the devil’s words entice him, molding him like clay and forcing away the two who stayed beside him. He’s alone, and no one notices him wither away till it’s too late, and as his eyes slip closed one last time, he knows he’ll be seeing her again soon, and he can’t help but smile.

Cruel things I want to have happen to Kiyomasa #3897528: I want Kiyomasa to go on a giant ferris wheel, only for the ride to get stuck when he’s at the top. Bonus points if the ferris wheel has swinging passenger cars and Kiyomasa swings around wildly the whole time the ferris wheel is operating.

Other cruel things I want to have happen to Kiyomasa ? Well:

I want to see Kiyomasa humiliated in some way. He’s so prideful and he tends to say whatever he wants without caring whether it upsets other people (or simply because it upsets other people and he gets some satisfaction out of that), so it’d be interesting to see someone so utterly outclass him at something that all he can do is just stare in disbelief at them while he loses / is defeated / etc.

I want to see Kiyomasa get converted to Xavism. It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s for real or whether he’s just pretending to convert for some reason (e.g. to get Kanbei out of Xavism again, to gather intelligence on the Nation of Xavism, etc.), although it’d be a lot easier for him to pretend to convert. I want him to be weirded out / feel humiliated by the antics of the Xavists and/or have to join in with their antics. Maybe he can even become involved in the money scams that they’re running. Now that I think of it, if Kiyomasa makes a big enough name for himself as a strategist, the Xavists will probably try to recruit him anyways like they did with Motonari and Kanbei, right ? XD

I want Kiyomasa to be vulnerable around someone, whether it’s with a romantic partner or a friend or whoever. Kiyomasa always smiles and speaks politely, but that’s just a mask that he uses to distance himself from people. I want him to be hurt or be in trouble or just be in some sort of situation that he can’t get out of by himself. I want him to learn that he has to rely upon and work with other people, and that he doesn’t have all the answers to everything just because he has some smarts.

I want someone to call Kiyomasa out for something bad he’s done. Mostly because, in Battle Party, it seemed like he usually either won or outclassed other people and never really got punished for things (other than Tadakatsu beating him in a fight because he bullied Komatsu). For example, maybe he gets called out for abandoning his village and his mother for the sake of pursuing his own ambitions. Maybe he gets called out for sleeping with several people and not committing / refusing to commit / being vague about his commitment to one of them. Maybe he gets called out for being a grown man bullying a teenage girl (Komatsu) just because he’s grown cynical about samurai society and hates upper-class samurai even when they’re kind and want to do more to help out (like Komatsu). Maybe he gets called out for being willing to kill tens of thousands of people just because he wants to show off how good of a strategist he is. There are probably a lot of other things you could call him out for, but that’s what’s on my mind at the moment.

I want to see Kiyomasa genuinely becoming loyal to the Toyotomi despite his commitment issues, only to choose to betray them once Hideyoshi and Hanbei are dead and Mitsunari’s in charge because Kiyomasa can’t stand working with Mitsunari. I could see Kiyomasa live on by serving Ieyasu but still feel guilt and nostalgia for the “good days” he had when he was working for Hideyoshi and Hanbei.

I want to see Kiyomasa fall in love. I want to see him have to struggle to choose between what he wants to do emotionally vs. what he knows in his head he needs to do to carry out his plans. I want to see him struggle to choose between his loved one and his ambition. I want him to actually try to commit to someone for once, and I want to see him struggle with that. Bonus points if he can’t be with the one he loves and/or his love is unrequited, because he’ll have to deal with the person he loves being just out of his reach, he’ll have to face the fact that he can’t just sleep with everyone he wants, and/or he’ll learn that not everyone is willing to put up with his prideful and at times grating personality.
