NHK World Japan : A Demon-Cutting Sword
Legend has it that in 10th Century Japan, Kyoto was attacked by demons that devour humans. A Samurai wielding the Onikirimaru, managed to slay them all. The sword is preserved till this day the Kitano-tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto. Minamoto no Mitsunaka commissioned the sword to protect the earthly realm.

Private Blessings at Kitano Tenmangū
For my first semester abroad I went to Kitano Tenmangū again to receive a private blessing for success in passing my finals. I think a lot of people might get nervous about asking for blessings if they're not Japanese, but it's fairly easy if you know the basic kanji and how to ask at the shrine office about blessings. I got some lovely plum wine as a gift after the blessing.

Of course you also get an Ema to write one so I did. Lots of folks will tie a 5¥ coin to it for good luck. And the seasonal flowers were sunflowers and hydrangeas at the Temizuya again. I was also lucky their Aoi Momiji garden was open, basically it's Japanese Maple but instead of the peak season being fall and the leaves red, it's summer and the leaves are this insanely bright green.

There is no 23 in the Goshuin Summer event, so instead we skip on over to Kyoto to Yasaka Shrine. This entire region is based upon the actual Kyoto, Japan, and this Shrine is based upon the first life Yasaka Jinja in Kyoto. As they should be, other shrines, large and small, are also scattered across the city- and two of them are also offering goshuin for the summer. While they are not on the official list, there are posters at the desk that provide notice.

If you exit back out the large gate to Yasaka Shrine and turn left, pass the store next to the Shrine and turn left again to head behind the restaurant, you will find a little Inari Shrine.

And on the other side of the sim, across the large central river, you can find Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, also inspired by the real life Shrine of the same name in Kyoto. The central river is hosting a festival for Tanabata, the summer festival to the stars Vega and Altair, the literal star-crossed lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi, who are separated by the celestial river of the Milky Way, destined to only meet once a year. A boat floats on the river, and bamboo with wishes and decorations lines the river, as well as the festival booths and lanterns. (Depending on the route you walk, you may find a second celebration of Tanabata as well on your way.) The geisha who make this region their home also hold entertainment events, schedules are posted multiple places around the sim.

Yokai Street in Kyoto, known formally as Taishogun Shopping Street. Nestled near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, this narrow street is lined with shops, cafes, and stalls, each decked out with quirky yokai-themed decorations.
Many of the decorations pay homage to well-known yokai, like Kappa, Tengu, and Rokurokubi, with hand-crafted sculptures, masks, and paintings.
Legend has it that this street lies on the ancient "demon's path" and may even be the route of the Hyakki Yagyo, the infamous "Parade of One Hundred Demons." In this supernatural procession, yokai of all kinds march through the streets, a fearsome spectacle where humans would wisely avoid crossing paths.
