Okay so allow me to explain my unbridled hatred for King Beast
For starters it is said that the barrier along with Auradon was formed 20 years before the first movie, then add 2 because their 18 in the 3rd movie, and then another 6 I believe for rise of red (Don't quote me on that this is just an approximations) that leaves you with 28 years, Red and Chloe travel back in time 30 years which leaves them to meet there moms at age 16.
That leaves everything that happened to happen when they were 18 and I'm pretty sure it's assumed that Beast is in fact older than them by a few years. My educated guess is that he was about 21-24 years old based on what I remember from the original movie. Now understand that would this 24 year old forced an 18 year old Fay to trap every villain and their kid on a purgatory (most of whom she grew up with may I remind you) And if you really want to go there how many times can you think of the line "We used to be friends" appeared in a dcom because I can name a lot so there's a very real chance she used to be friends with a lot of them.
Just something about forcing a barely adult to lock away all of her childhood friends seems wrong to me but hey maybe I'm crazy. Now secondly BRIDGET poor sweet Bridget was going to war at 18 and no really think about that. She was ostracized for two years after castlecoming assuming that she could even make it to graduation between all the bullying and having no friends. Because yes she lost her only friend so she's been living in isolation for 2 years. And her mom is apparently gone. (I know this fandom has their own opinions but good or bad she was still her mother. ) Because at this point she is queen which means that her mother either stepped down or died and I really don't think Wonderland monarchs believe in stepping down. Either way she’s leading completely alone at this point and all she has is this country and now Beast wants to take that too!
The only thing left that's hers, her home, her safe place. The place where Bridget grew up, not the Queen of Hearts. And he just expected her to hand it over! Like he was entitled to her home, her kingdom. Just this random white man decided he should own this land because he wants it, and that sounds too familiar so ofcourse Bridget fights. 18 years old fighting for the right to her own home by herself and you expect that not to break her? It's no wonder she acts as if kindness is weakness people have been taking advantage of hers all her life. She's such a protective person but it manifest in the worse ways. In her mind She's protecting her people, her daughter from getting hurt by hurting her first and that's always my thought process for her. Not an excuse but an explanation.

New headcanon going off of @underworldsheiress's comment on my post...
Beast struck a deal with Hades to release all the dead villains' souls from the Underworld in order to bring them back to life and keep them trapped on the Isle. He told Hades that he would be spared if he did this, before double crossing him and keeping him trapped on the island with everyone else.

what are your honest opinions on King Beast/Adam
Honestly, I can't tell if he's worse at being a father or a king. Either way, he's pretty shit at both.
What kind of King looks at a bunch of criminals and goes "death isn't good enough", revives the dead criminals, have them all forced to live in squalor with no plans of rehabilitation, and then realizes they had kids, only to leave the kids there (mind you, quite a few of these criminals are known abusers to children, especially "their" own) and have everything continue as scheduled? Then when his son, who he decided to make High King of the entire country at the ripe age of 16, wants the kids off the Isle, he gets unreasonably angry. He then blames the "fight" the VKs had at Family Day after being discriminated against, on his own son.
The worst part about all of this? The narrative. He could've been an interesting antagonist if done right. Instead, he's almost portrayed as a voice of reason to the gullible Ben, or as the typical corny, comic relief Disney dad who just wants better for his kid.
Luckily, that's what fanfics are for 😈

Bad First Impressions (Are Ones That Often Stick);
Tumblr media
Summary: Why Bruno Madrigal is not on the isle.  Encantober: Coffee. Trigger Warnings: Gossip nearly leading to unfair imprisonment, swearing, talk of inhumane concerns, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------
The coffee Julieta had poured for Alma and the visiting rulers remained untouched as the Matriarch listened to the new King and Queen of Auradon talked.
And talked.
And talked.
And talked.
About Auradon.
About how they were rounding up all the villains and major criminals to send to a prison they were building. They didn't call it a prison but that's what it was.
A place where they wouldn't have to think about the villains and the henchmen they sent there. About the violent criminals they booted there. A place they called ‘The Isle of the Lost’, as if it was a place for people to go when they needed to heal and be reintegrated into society and not a prison that they planned to never reopen.
As they talked about how the villains could live their lives there, unsupervised, and how Auradon would be safe once they were all there.
And all the while, King Beast and Queen Belle didn't touch their drinks that her eldest triplet had slaved away to make. No, they just kept talking. Seemingly not realizing (or maybe just not caring) that Alma hadn't said a word to them thus far.
No, they didn't notice or care that Alma wasn't even really taking part of the conversation or take notice of the way that the elderly woman was gripping her mug. Knuckles lightening as she gritted her teeth, somehow managing to keep her face calm and neutral.
All while the diablos in front of her talked about sending not one, not two, but three of her family members there.
Her beautiful, fiery, headstrong Pepa who was finally becoming herself.
Her innocence, little Brunito who was only guilty of being socially awkward, a little odd, and being the reluctant bearer of bad news.
And her miracle. The girl she had never treated as well as she should have. Her youngest nieta. Her Mirabel.
All because of the damned gossip that had escaped the Encanto in the year it took the familia and the village to rebuild the Encanto.
They were here, talking to her about throwing two of her babies and one of her grandbabies into a prison with child abusers, animal abusers, creepers, murderers, and overall hardened criminals because of rumors that they hadn't even bothered to fact check.
They wanted her to lock her now seventeen year old nieta up with men like Jafar and Frollo who shouldn't be allowed out of their homes let alone be let loose on an isle where they could do whatever they wanted. King Beast and Queen Belle wanted her to allow them to throw her Bruno onto the isle where he would stick out like a sore thumb and wanted her to throw her daughter who had a seven year old there with him.
But Alma wasn't going to have it.
No, she wasn't going to hear another word of it.
They weren't taking her family anywhere.
Alma stood up, interrupting whatever the idiotas the tontos in Auradon had elected had been about to say. “Get out.”
“Wha—”
Alma held up her hand. Their time for speaking was done, they had had an hour of it—now it was her turn. “Get out of my house and my Encanto and never return! My village has no villains and I will not allow you to take my familia anywhere.”
Beast, the petulant child he was, tried to argue or to apologize—the Matriarch wasn't sure what but at the moment she couldn't care lessbut was once again cut off by Alma. “Casita, escort them out!”
Casita didn't need to be told twice.
------------------------------------------------------------
Several great grandkids later and Alma still couldn’t stand Beast, and likely wouldn’t ever be able to.
If there was one thing you could say about Alma Madrigal, widow of Pedro Madrigal, and Matriarch of the Madrigal Family, it was that she sure knew how to hold a grudge—especially when you messed with her familia.
And, well, if you messed with Alma and her familia, you messed with Casita and the Encanto.

what are your honest thoughts on King Beast
oh god. listen, beauty and the beast is my favourite disney movie so i have mixed feelings (also if i refer to him as adam, i'm talking about king beast, yk). it brings me joy every time i see him on the screen because of this, but the formation of the isle was, in the simplest of terms, not it. i can never understand why you would bring a bunch of villains back from the DEAD to imprison them let alone imprison the alive ones in the way that the isle operates? there had to be a better way.
i like to rationalize the formation of the isle (as much as i can bc the formation of the isle is simply whack) by imagining that villain related crime had been seriously escalating when he was made king and there was one final event that basically triggered him, maybe something that endangered ben's safety when he was an infant. i tend to think of something like an attempted kidnapping, something that endangered his family's safety. in my mind, the widescale villain panic across the nation at the time essentially contributed to the decision that the isle would be formed, but without that panic i like to think that it never would have happened.
i do, however, enjoy seeing his character development throughout the movies. i don't think he can ever redeem himself for creating the isle, but i do think he shows potential in his interactions with mal and his acceptance of her relationship with ben. i do ultimately think he did what he did for the safety of his family; i think the curse put upon him really messed with his head, that he never truly dealt with it after he became human again, and all of that trauma reared its ugly head and led to the formation of the isle.
tldr; i love beast as a character and he shows potential for growth and change, but the formation of the isle was absolutely wrong and i don't think he can ever redeem himself completely.

what are your honest opinions on King Beast (ps love your bitmoij icons will use with credit )
Thank you! I appreciate that, I had a lot of fun doing the icons
As for King Beast - he doesn't deserve the hate he gets cause he's a product of the series' bad writing, but I can see why people latch onto him that way.
In terms of story he is the one who at least in part cause the creation of the isle and everything. But in the gran scheme of things, I don't have any strong opinions other than how he's portrayed.
Like in canon the most he is is goofy at best and annoying at worst (i.e. D3 and how he doesn't seem to want to let Ben rule when he gave away the crown to a child) or if he's used as a villain in a fic.
He's not a character that I'd be upset about people getting wrong when he could truly go either way

Since Disney's latest villain era has been all about generational trauma, what do we think Beast did with "villains" like Alma?
Also I love how this world's system is so broken we can literally sit around asking these questions for years and still not be sure

what are your honest opinions on King Beast (im not anti but i like hearing others thoughts too )
Thanks for ur ask!! I've been sitting on this for a minute just bc I think King Beast is a very manipulatable character, as a writer.
Like he's very easy to twist and turn into an antagonist or something neutral. His motivations in canon are flimsy and one dimensional, much like most of canon. Which makes him fun to play around with in fan work.
I think he makes a good villain bc he's the face of a system that hurt a lot of people, that restricted and imprisoned without nuance. He offers a stanch authority figure for the main characters (Ben especially) to push against because he's more symbolically present than the actual laws and world building that allowed for the Isle in the first place.
If I consider him in context of the original Disney Beauty and the Beast, I can't imagine Adam and Belle ever choosing to amass that much power. Belle is a peasant girl, Adam just spent however many years as a feared creature in isolation from the world, not exactly learning how to be a good royal and who knows how mentally mature he is at this point-- neither of them know how to run a kingdom let alone a "untied" bunch of kingdoms.
So in that sense, either Adam and Belle are figureheads installed (and controlled?) by the other kingdoms as a more "neutral" party, or all of Adam's choices are born out of true ignorance.
The Isle is a children's instinctive answer to mayhem and crime-- just throw them all away! And if Adam felt any residual fear or distrust of magic, it makes sense if we consider him as a boy who lost ten or more years of his life to a curse.
So yeah. Lots of thoughts on King Beast.

you know, every time someone bring up the fact that ben has the beast curse in him it make me think of three thing
do other curse and magic cast stay on the person forever, like do audrey get really sleep when she hit or do chad and his sister has a bit of good luck in the afternoon. what about characters from movies like brother bear, can Kenai kids shapeshift between bear and human?
what cause ben to go beast, is it when he scared, angry, worry?
ben and mal kids are going to have a horrible time when it comes to their magic, like the beast curse most be stronger in them due to mal being fairy and god. maybe unlike ben who going beast just means his habits change maybe they fully become beast with the same triggers.
I've been thinking about this as well! (Also, side note, I have not thought about Brother Bear in FOREVER, and now I need to rewatch it)
I really like that idea. It would be interesting if the effects depend on how strong the curse was, and who it was cast by. Aurora's curse only went into affect on her 16th birthday so while its possible Audrey could inherit side effects there's a good chance she wouldn't (especially if the three good fairies gave her blessings - they would know exactly what to say.) Whereas with Beast, he was cursed for YEARS. And the Enchantress is likely VERY powerful.
This is a very good question. Considering what we saw in D2, anger and fear are likely big triggers. Not sure about how he acted in D1, but he was probably just playing around.
Maybe, but maybe not. Ben never went FULL Beast (at least not in the way his father was), and Audrey's spell was... different than the original, and while the scepter is powerful, she isn't. Personally don't think anything from her spell would have stuck. So their kids could have side effects, but likely not with how diluted it would be. Now the god and fae heritage on the other hand...
(With all that said, it would be kind of hilarious if Ben and Mal had three kids with one taking on some of the beast side effects, another inheriting most of the fae magic, and the third taking on a lot of godly powers.)
ANYWAYS, one of my thoughts for why Ben has part of the Beast curse is it started to reactivate in Beast himself. Maybe we can say that the Enchantress put a clause in it stating that the curse would begin to come back depending on how Beast himself acts, but with Belle being his true love it could never fully take hold of him again. He and Belle didn't even know what was happening. But that didn't stop the curse being pass to Ben.
Thankfully, Ben is a lot different than his father and the possibility of him ever turning full beast is very slim. Instead, he just gets minor side effects.
