i’m not at all surprised that the set it off tag on here is 90% about the band i like the band as much as i can like an emo/emo adjacent band where i don’t know if the members have sa accusations against them.
BUT THE MOVIE.
that film had black lesbians in a generally accepted relationship in 1996.
and a banging soundtrack.
and plus size for the 90s representation in one of the main characters.
and blair underwood.

Pride Month Movie 3: Set it Off
F. Gary Gray's 1996 heist drama should be regarded a classic of the genre. I had forgotten how much I love this movie. With its focus on poverty, sexism, and the obstacles Black women face to upward mobility, it could as easily have come out this year as nearly twenty years ago. The friendship these four women from the LA projects share and the spectacular performances of Vivica A. Fox, Jada Pinkett, and Kimberly Elise are all great reasons to watch it, but I chose to watch it this month for only one.
Queen Latifah. Cleo. Cleomenza. In all her studly glory, she is easily one of the most memorable queer characters of mainstream 1990s cinema. In a decade where so many such characters did die silent deaths, she goes out in an absolutely specular guns-blazing fashion to give her best friends a chance to escape.
This may be the best movie I watch this month. Maybe it's just because I haven't seen it in so long, but I loved every frame. Still, I will press on tomorrow. Something else in the Gays Doing Crimes genre would be nice, but we'll see.
Set it Off is currently free to watch on Tubi.

Death Wish (2018) will be released on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on on November 28 via Shout Studios. The action-thriller is a reimagining of Michael Winner’s 1974 classic.
Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) directs from a script by Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team), based on the original novel by Brian Garfield. Bruce Willis, Vincent D'Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, Camila Morrone, Dean Norris, and Kimberly Elise star.
Special features are in progress and will be announced at a later date.
Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who sees only the aftermath of his city's violence as it's rushed into his ER … until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts for his family's assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grab the media's attention, the city wonders if this deadly avenger is a guardian angel or a grim reaper.
Pre-order Death Wish.
