Woori the Virgin

This series is based on the Latin novela titled Juana la Virgen. I didn't watch this novela when it came out in the early 2000s, but I was aware of the concept. I had the Korean drama in my watchlist for a while and after some hesitation, I watched it.

There are somethings, I didn't like and others that were nice. This is not a classic, but it was entertaining. Since I haven't seen the original, I can't pin point what are the main differences, but I have a feeling that the only thing they have in common, is that - the concept.

The Korean version has a protagonist that has made a chastity vow and has kept it even in her 20s. She has a boyfriend with whom she as never had physical contact beyond holding hands and this woman suddenly finds herself pregnant with the baby of the only man who has ever kissed her. There is a serial killer plot that is dealt with two episodes before the end of the series, which gives us time to enjoy the good things happening around the main charaters. I like the subplots of Woori's parents.

There are some really silly things in this series, specially when the two young men start acting out to win her attention. The one thing I did like was the person she chose at the end and the family dynamics.

İş ortamı konulu bir diziyle karşı karşıyayız. Zorluklarını ve kolaylıklarını karakterlerin hayatları ile birleştirip önümüze koyuyor. Bana ilk başlarda” Forecasting love & weather “havası vermiş olsa da çok geçmeden benzemediğini anladım. Dizinin yazarı Dr. Romantic dizisinden aşina olduğum bir isimken, yönetmeni ise Secret Garden dizisinden biliyoruz. Bu seferki iş ortamımız; havaalanı. Han Yeo-Reum (Chae Soo-Bin), havaalanında istediği departmanda çalışmak için uzun süredir çabalamaktadır. Sonunda istediği departmanda işe girer. Sakarlığı ve başına açtığı işiler nedeniyle sürekli dikkatleri üzerine toplayan bir kadındır. Tek amacı başarılarıyla dikkat çekmektir. İş arkadaşı Lee Soo-Yeon (Lee Je-Hoon) ise az konuşan, dikkat çekmeden yaşamaya çalışan sırlarla dolu bir adamdır. Sırrını yalnızca müdürü bilmektedir, böyle de kalması için dikkat çekmeden normal bir hayat yaşamalıdır. Yeo-Reum bir yıl önce başına gelen bir kazada onu kurtaran kişinin Soo-Yeon olduğunu fark edince genç adamın hayatı da istediği normallikten uzaklaşmaya başlar.

Soo-Yeon alışık olduğumuz yakışıklı Kore aktörlerinden değil. Oyuncuyu ilk kez izliyorum, kendince bir cazibesi var ama orta segment bir karakter olmuş. Buna rağmen oyunculuk olarak üst seviyelerde olduğunu düşünüyorum. Hikayeye dönecek olursak, Soo-Yeon 12 yıl önce geçirdiği bir trafik kazası sonucu bir bacağı ve bir kolu sakat kalmış, 1.derece engelli olarak görünmektedir. Ancak kullandığı onaylanmamış protezler ile dışarda bu engelleri belli olmamaktadır. Onaylanmamış bu cihazın limitlerini kendisi de bilmediğinden, sıradan bir insan gibi yaşamaya çalışsa da ne yazık ki sıradan olmaktan çok uzaklaşıyor. Sağ kolu ve bacağında his olmamasının yanı sıra protez takılı olduğunda normal bir insandan kat be kat daha güçlü olmaktadır.

Zaten işin bu tarafına girildiği zaman dizi bir tık fantastik bir hal alıyor. Uzunca bir süre seyirci içinde gizemini koruyor. Ne olmuş, nasıl olmuş, cihaz neymiş, neden takmış şeklinde. Bu soru yağmurunun ve gizemi bir yana koyarsanız, asıl rahatsız edici olan ise, güvenlik şefi ve yönetim şefinin cihazın varl��ğından haberdar olup bunu takıntı haline getirmeleri. Uzunca bir süre sürekli “o cihazı görelim. O cihaz ne? Tehlikelisin git buradan. 1.derece engelli nasıl böyle yürür.” Gibi cümleler kurup sorular sordular. Bütün bu kısmı, NE OLMUŞ PROTEZİ VARSA!!! Diye isyan ederek izledim. O kadar anlamsız geldi ki, anlatamam.

Dizide birçok klişeyi de yapmayı unutmamışlar. Eskiden tanışmışlık, tesadüf diye bir şey yok karşılaşmalar, birbirinden yanlış anlamasın diye sır saklayıp yanlış anlaşılmalar. Ailevi bağlantılarda var tabi. Diğer yandan oyuncular oldukça doyurucuydu. Chae Soo-Bin’i daha önce “I'm not a robot” dizisinde izlemiş, beğenmiştim. Daha sonra Love in the Moonlight dizisinde yan karakterlerden biri olarak gözüme çarptı. Angel’s Last Mission: Love dizisinin kara meleği Lee Dong-Gun, Hwarang dizisinin bencil kraliçesi Kim Ji-Soo, Tomorrow dizisinin asi genci Ro Woon, Strong girl Do Bong Soon dizisinde iki farklı rolde izlediğim ve daha sonrasında birçok dizide de karşılaşıp beğendiğim Kim Won-Hae, Vincenzo’nun dansları ile öne çıkan kötü kadını Kim Yeo-Jin, Mystic Pop-up Bar dizisinin gizli jönü Choi Won-Young.  Ve sayamadığım birçok başarılı oyuncu diziden gelmiş geçmiş. Bu açıdan çok keyif aldım diyebilirim.

İkinci erkek, ikinci kadın gibi tat kaçıran konuları çok uzatmadılar. İkinci erkek aynı zamanda kızımızın en yakın arkadaşıydı, öyle kalmaya devam etti. Üzmediler, üzülmedik. Beni rahatsız eden, kadın-erkek ilişkilerinden çok abi-kardeş ilişkisiydi. Lee Soo-Yeon (Lee Je-Hoon) ve Seo In-Woo (Lee Dong-Gun) üvey kardeşlermiş. Ne hikmetse, kaza sonrası kanlı bıçaklı düşman olmuşlar. Onların arasındaki bu husumet o kadar büyütüldü ki sonunda bağladıkları noktada hiç tatmin edici değildi. Gereğinden fazla yükseldiler. İkinci çift ise güvenlik ekibindeydi. Birbirlerini süzmenin bir tık ötesine gidemediler. Yine de ikilinin ayrı bir dizisi olsa izlenebilirdi.

Ve sonuç olarak, final… Galiba sonunda bir sorun yaşanmış. Dizi 24 bölüm olarak tasarlanıp, 16 bölümde bitmeye zorlanmış gibiydi. Fiziksel ve ruhsal engeller üzerine izleyiciyi düşündürmeyi başarıyor. Kore dizilerinin en büyük klasiği olan dizi sonu zaman atlaması tabi ki burada da karşımıza çıkıyor. Ancak buradaki sıkıntı dizinin bitmeden bitmiş olması. Her şey havadayken bir anda 1 yıl geçti. Ne oldu da geçti, nasıl geçti bilinmiyor. Neden araya öyle bir ayrılık girildi o da bilinmiyor. En komiği ise son sahnede başrol erkeğin suratını gizleme çabasıydı. 1 yıl sonra dönüp gelen adamın ense tıraşını izledik. Kime neye tepki olarak çekildi anlam veremedim.

Ayrıca, dizinin genelinde birçok şey cevapsız ve havada kaldı. Üvey abinin babası ile olan mevzu neydi, neden izledik. Kocası tarafından aldatılan çalışanın hikayesi ne oldu. Güvenlik şefi ve bizim ekibin yöneticisi kadın nasıl bir ilişki içerisindeydiler, üvey abi bu ilişkinin neresindeydi. Bu üçlü arasındaki ilişki neydi? Üvey abinin babasına ne oldu, neden görüşmüyorlardı? Takım şefi ile sakat çocuk nasıl tanıştı, neden kardeşi yerine koydu. Güvenlik görevlilerinin arası ne oldu, neden anlatılmadı. Gibi gibi gibi… Tavsiye eder miyim, ederim. Her şeye rağmen güzel diziydi.

Special Delivery (2022): Eun-Ha (Park So-Dam) Eun-Ha is a special driver for deliveries. She delivers anything or anyone for the right price. Her success rate is 100%, but she gets involved in an unexpected delivery accident.

Brave Citizen (2023): So Shi-Min (Shin Hae-Sun) So Shi-Min used to be a boxer in her student days. She now works as a contract teacher at a high school. She confronts a school bully, who frequently torments other students.

A Gentleman's Dignity (kdrama, 2012)

"A Gentleman's Dignity" is a drama about the lives and loves of four men in their forties: Kim Do Jin, Im Tae San, Choi Yoon and Lee Jung Rok.

Do Jin doesn't believe in love, he just wants to live his life without thinking much about the future or having a family, until he meets Yi Soo and falls in love with her at first sight. The problem is that Yi Soo has a one-sided love for Tae San, Do Jin's friend. To complicate matters even more, Tae San is dating Yi Soo's friend Se Ra.

Yoon is a sweet man who lost his wife, he has no interest in dating again, but Me Ah Ri enters his life to change everything, with the purpose of making him fall in love with her. Let's complicate the story even more: Me Ah Ri is the younger sister of Tae San, his friend.

To complete the stories of the friends, we have Jung Rok, a womanizer who can't stop cheating on his wife. The drama basically shows her trying to divorce him in every episode. HAHA'

The drama is light, funny and easy to watch. All the characters are great, the couples have amazing chemistry. That's one of the things I love about this drama, you don't just want to watch the main couple, but each and every one of them. The romances are on different levels to match the characters, it's just too perfect.

Seeing Yi Soo fighting with Do Jin, him trying everything to make her like him. At the same time, seeing Tae San with Se Ra, an independent woman who doesn't want to be tamed and Yoon, falling in love with a younger woman, fighting against her own feelings and lastly, Jung Rok realizing that he can't live without Min Sook… all of this is what makes this story a fantastic experience.

There are also two characters that steal the show: Collin and Dong Hyeop. You might think that these two don't have a place in this story, but they really complete everything. This was my first drama with Kim Woo Bin!

Summary:

Seon-mi is a young girl born with the ability to see ghosts and spirits. Her seemingly irrational behavior has isolated her from her family and peers, and her only protection is her grandmother and a small yellow umbrella with protection spells written by a Buddhist monk. One day when she walks home from school, a ghost follows her, and this is witnessed by a mysterious man in a suit and black top hat (Woo Ma-wang). The mysterious man exorcises the ghost for her, and asks her for a favor: to enter a magical majestic house and retrieve a certain fan. She is also given specific instructions to ignore anyone she sees in there. However, the person inside the house is Son Oh-gong, the Monkey King, who was imprisoned inside by Heaven for his crimes. He blocks her path and forces her to acknowledge him, and tells her that the man outside is a great danger to her as well. Oh-gong makes her a deal: if she puts out the five candles on the table and frees him, he promises to protect her from all dangers in her life every time she calls his name. But after she agrees and releases him, Oh-gong steals the memory of his name out of her head and makes a run for it, leaving young Seon-mi stranded in the middle of nowhere.

In the present day, Seon-mi has grown up into an adult. Still armed with her little magic umbrella, she owns a real estate company that specializes in buying haunted houses, exorcising the spirits, and then flipping them for large profits. At a busy intersection, Seon-mi and Oh-gong spot each other and Seon-mi asks why he did what he did. He gives an unsatisfactory answer and Seon-mi tearfully asks aloud why she ever bothered having faith in him as a child. Meanwhile, Son Oh-gong is looking to reinstate his status as an immortal and has been doing various good deeds to earn brownie points with Heaven. He learns from a possessed doll that Sam-jang has been born, and anyone who eats Sam-jang's flesh can gain immortality. He decides to figure out who it is and eat them. However, Sam-jang is none other than Seon-mi, which means that Oh-gong cannot eat her without violating the promise he made to her as a child that he would protect her.

While Oh-gong tries to figure out a way to convince Seon-mi to die for him, Soo Bo-ri goes to Woo Ma-wang and asks him for help in protecting Sam-jang. Ma-wang takes Seon-mi to an antique shop with magical wares. There an old lady (Bodhisattva Guanyin) sells him a Geumganggo, a magical bracelet that will ensure the obedience of anyone who wears it through the power of love. The original Geumganggo is worn on the head, but this version is worn on the wrist. Seon-mi gives it to Oh-gong as a gift on Christmas Eve, and has a prophetic vision about standing in a field, wearing a hanbok, and giving him a kiss.

This dream comes true when Seon-mi is dragged into a haunted painting by a malevolent spirit that kidnaps women and tries to marry them all. Oh-gong enlists the help of Jeo Pal-gye (Lee Hong-gi), a pig demon and pop artist under Ma-wang's entertainment company, to get inside the painting. Pal-gye helps him, but he and Ma-wang burn the painting instead, trapping both Seon-mi and Oh-gong inside. Seon-mi decides to follow with her vision and kisses Oh-gong, thus activating the Geumganggo, though she did not realize what the Geumganggo would do. Oh-gong gives back her memory of his name and forces her out of the painting world, because he cannot leave the painting world unless she summons him from the outside. Seon-mi cuts her own hand and attracts a hoard of demons to her before calling out Oh-gong's name. Oh-gong exits the painting world and rescues her from the demons.

From then on, the main plot is focused on Seon-mi and Oh-gong's budding relationship despite these difficult circumstances. Oh-gong professes to be deeply in love with Seon-mi, but only because of the Geumganggo. He constantly reminds her that if she takes it off, his love will disappear, and he may return to wanting to eat her for immortality instead. (In fact, if he really loves her from heart, he could take off the Geumanggo by himself. However, they don't know this.) Seon-mi, who has been a loner all her life, can't help but be touched by Oh-gong's thoughtful actions, and struggles to guard her heart against any romantic feelings because Sam-jang's tragic destiny is always to be a sacrifice for humanity against growing evil. Each episode involves Seon-mi and Oh-gong fighting off the demon of the week while dealing with their own internal conflicts. Seon-mi's feelings for Oh-gong are also constantly tested as she learns more about the kind of person Oh-gong is and his many secrets. The nightmare looming constantly over both their heads is a prophetic dream that Seon-mi had about the world ending, and knowing that she had to do everything she could to prevent it. Oh-gong later also learns that his role as Sam-jang's protector means he will either kill her, or she will kill him. This further drives them apart even as they fall more in love with each other.

It's so interesting to see how your if blew up so quickly. It's of course well deserved since u r so talented and your characters are incredible! It's been a while since I've been this invested in an if. Your characters just feel so human and so refreshing. I adore them all your honor. This is literally the first time I was confused at who I was going to romance out of the ROs because everyone is just amazing. I was watching the glory and the actor jung sung il really gave me orion vibes.

At first i thought people would not vibe with the flaws that they carry, or the affair route (i was very close to not including it) but im glad i stuck with my gut. i never wanted a squeaky clean cast. i just like characters who can be considered both a villain and hero to someone depending on perspective

for grayson, i couldn't find any french or polish actors that truly fit him, perhaps i just didn't look hard enough, but i think robbie amell is at the very least a good face claim.

i had the same problem for kennedy, there weren't really any actresses that looked like her or fit her vibe. i think i'd probably go with candice patton.

alex was definitely the easiest lol. for f!alex, i'd say seo ye-ji and for m!alex, kim soo-hyun.

my fav jisung watches, answering @stars-after-dark since i know i'll get hit by character limit. based off my list of what shows of his i've seen here.

new heart is absolutely a must. jisung is so baby-faced, but i actually really, really loved the show a lot that i bought it on dvd. he also co-stars with kim minjung, so it's so wild to see them young in contrast to the devil judge. they play their characters so well, that you don't get caught up on the fact that it's the same people.

kim soo ro - i mention this not bc i think it's great by any means. it's entertaining, frustrating plot-wise, but if you do want eye-candy, this is it. i'm literally not even sorry about that.

ps partner/watcha wearin is SO GOOD. like it's so good, but i think it freaks ppl out bc it's a a romcom about a dude who accidentally has phone sex with a woman. so there's a few sex scenes in it, but i think it lends itself well to the plot of the story rather than being there out of unnecessary reasons. i also love a good romcom, especially those with unique plots. this is one of them.

kill me, heal me. it's a bit corny in places, but i do think the heart of the story and the different characters you mean are so incredibly lovely. jisung's character has DID, and you can't help but love each of his identities. perry park has such a soft spot on me. (he also brings out perry's voice as an easter egg in the devil judge!!)

the vampire lives next door to us is a short film. it's on youtube, so a very easy watch and a very interest ending that pulls on the heartstrings. it seems silly at first, but there's meaning behind it.

entertainer is what you'd wanna watch if you just want to see a pretty jisung, lmao. that and his group of baby boys. it's actually pretty good, though i will say the one aspect i didn't like is the one chick meant to be the love interest is very minor-coded (seems helpless, innocent), so that's a bit uh odd. but i'd say still watch it bc the rest of the plot is good.

(everyone says watch defendant, but i think it dragged on too long and wasn't as good. it's his most well-known role, i believe. up to you to see it. it's not a bad watch, just so-so for me).

familiar wife and doctor john kinda live on the same level for me. i don't love them, but i don't hate them. i have a very big pet peeve with familiar wife that i've talked about before on here, but i'd only be able to share if you've see it bc it'd ruin the whole plot. jisung is very good at humor though! doctor john is good/interesting. i do feel like they wrapped up the ending in one ep.

adamas is...... how to explain this one. i love the twins (my icon is one of em). they are my loves, nearly on par with kang yohan. i think the issue with this show is that you feel like it's leading you into a very big plot or big reveal, and it doesn't really do that? it's shrouded in mystery, and it's so hard to explain. i still think it's interesting enough to watch, esp maybe on a rewatch (as i want to do) bc i feel like there might be things that get missed with the storytelling. the ending is 😭 so be prepared. it's a bit slower paced storytelling, so it may be really hard to sit and watch, esp the first few eps. but if anything, get through it for the twins!!!!!! i love them!!!!!!!
