Woman Made Gallery in Chicago is another amazing gallery dedicated to exhibiting women artists. Today I’m going to share some artwork by  Nia Pushkarova who juried their current exhibit, the 21st International Open. Text from womanmade.org , images from Saatchi Art.

CHICAGO — Woman Made Gallery is pleased to present its ‘21st International Open’, an exciting exhibition which includes 44 works of art by 40 artists, spanning 6 countries. From the United States, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, and the United Kingdom, this diverse group explores conceptual and material boundaries through video, photography, mixed medium assemblage, collage, painting and sculpture.

About the Juror: Nia Pushkarova

Nia Pushkarova is a multimedia artist and curator. With a Fine Art degree from the University of Reading, England in 1995, Nia received a Kodak award upon graduation. She is the founder and director of NGO IME since 2004, and organized the Water Tower Art Fest in Sofia, Bulgaria. Since 2014, Pushkarova is part of the Artist Initiative Network, cofounder and member of the Bulgarian Festival Association. Her International participation, both as an artist and organizer, includes the 2017 Nakanojo Biennale, Japan; at EFFE Festival Academy, Atelier for young festival managers, Chiang in 2016; at Parabiosis 3, ”Communication and Co-Existence,” Chongqing, China; and Mexico, Coahuila “Raya En El Agua.”

Pushkarova’s work deals with issues related to feminism, localism, and geopolitics, while connecting conceptual and political oriented practice with moments of the autobiographical and poetic. http://nia.watertowerartfest.com

Les Femmes Folles is a volunteer organization founded in 2011 with the mission to support and promote women in all forms, styles and levels of art from around the world with the online journal, print annuals, exhibitions and events; originally inspired by artist Wanda Ewing and her curated exhibit by the name Les Femmes Folles (Wild Women). LFF was created and is curated by Sally Deskins.  LFF Booksis a micro-feminist press that publishes 1-2 books per year by the creators of Les Femmes Folles including the award-winning Intimates & Fools (Laura Madeline Wiseman, 2014) , The Hunger of the Cheeky Sisters: Ten Tales (Laura Madeline Wiseman/Lauren Rinaldi, 2015 and Mes Predices (catalog of art/writing by Marie Peter Toltz, 2017).Other titles include Les Femmes Folles: The Women 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 available on blurb.com, including art, poetry and interview excerpts from women artists. LANDSCAPE 18, Kim McAninch

LANDSCAPE 18 is a gestural, painterly, abstract expressionist landscape painted with oil. It is painted on .75" stretched canvas and is coated with archival varnish for protection against dust and dirt. It is wired and comes with wall hardware for immediate display in your space. It is part of my WHERE THE LEMON TREES BLOOM Collection.

"The color choices are excellent for immersing the viewer in a mood of silence, expectation, and suspension. The work that best reflects these sensations is undoubtedly "PROVINCES 4," where we see a complex of houses bathed in daylight. The piece is a snapshot, capturing what the eye sees from a very specific position. Despite this, the light permeates the painting, suggesting that something is about to happen.
