I am so glad the new kdramas are bringing back the specific brand of loser men. You know which brand I'm talking about. The Ahn "min min" Minhyuk brand of loser men and I'm loving it. The "I worship this goddess and I'm so in love with her and I can't believe I get to love her. Oh my gods I love her so much" brand of loser men. And we're being fed so well with lovely runner, love next door, no gain no love, my demon, Cinderella at 2am, Hierarchy, Midnight Romance in Hagwon, doctor slump, Queen of tears, welcome to samdal-ri and even good partner (yes it's one sided but the dedication and yuri's couple too).
We need more fictional loser men who worship women to satiate our eldest independent daughter desires.

I have a bone to pick with the Lovely Runner fandom.
I wish Sol's pain was more acknowledged.
Sol's loneliness at having sacrificed everything is glossed over, and it should be talked about more.
The way people talk abt Sun-jae as though he's the only that cares and waited for Im-sol annoys me when the whole drama literally revolves around the fact that she will do anything to keep him safe. Including go through her heartbreak over and over for such a long, long time without breathing a word of it to anyone because how could she explain anyway? The only two people who (sun-jae and tae-sung) have their memories erased.
Sol goes through so much. Loses her idol and then loses him again as the love of her life again and again and still has the resilience to be a bright, lovely person who fails and then tries again and again to keep him safe. And then ultimately wins at another price. "Happiness comes at a cost", her brother had said. And she knew he was right because she was already paying hers.
I'm not saying that Sun-jae wouldn't have done the same. He definitely would have and he loves her just as much. It's just, Sol's sacrifice, as well as Kim Hye Yoon's amazing acting is a little less recognised and underappreciated for my taste. People went crazy over BWS and Sun-jae and I get that it's mostly a heterosexual female fandom or whatever but how can you not appreciate Sol just as much? Would Sun-jae have fallen for just anyone? The first thing that drew him to her was that she was kind when she didn't have to be. And we saw her do it again and again.
As for Hye Yoon, especially calling back to how her fellow actors (BWS and Seo-hye won mentioned her bright personality on set despite her scenes being the most emotional and heavy, with physical stress as well wrt all the "wet scenes" that involved water and constant crying. Reducing her to bws' girlfriend as I've seen edits do is so disappointing when this is an actress who's delivered her best and then some. An actress that everyone, including BWS, is in awe of, for a reason.

The fight for justice starts with a little invitation...
Tumblr media
...because evil is prevalent and vehement.
Here's a reminder that Season 2 of The Fiery Priest is scheduled to air on Friday, November 8, 2024 in South Korea. The Fiery Priest is the second of Park Jae-Beom's "Justice Trilogy" as it's frequently called (Chief Kim aka Good Manager ; The Fiery Priest; Vincenzo in order of release) and I would love an invitation into screenwriter Park's brain because his creations are so very very good.
On this blog, I frequently talk about movies but dramas, specifically "kdramas," are another delight and from script to director(s) to casting to cinematography and soundtrack, this trilogy holds a special place for me. I think I could write a novel on the themes and scenes in Vincenzo alone. When not only the titular character but the entire cast keeps you watching, you know it's the good stuff. So happy all three shows were twenty episodes and didn't follow the more current trend of shortening the season. The slow character development enabled the viewer to discover individual stories without muddying up the plot too much.
I'm looking forward to watching as soon as Season 2 of The Fiery Priest is available for me to view, and if you haven't seen any of the above shows, I recommend them!
*Pictured above: Kim Nam-Gil as Father Kim (top) and Song Joong-Ki as Vincenzo. Two unconventional "heroes" fighting the good fight.

Haven't watched a drama in an age, gimme your recs please.
Preferably:
- bingeable, so either completed, or near completion (doesn't have to be super recent either, for example, Vincenzo is currently in the running)
- not too fluffy (so not a pure rom com), but not too serious (not a medical drama or political intrigue one)
- not a slice of life sitch (I need some angst)
Would be nice if:
- bromance, sisterhood, or other permutations of really good friend groups are strongly featured
- found family, see above
- easily found on streaming services

So I binged Hierarchy on Netflix and OH MY GODS. It's so good. I see people lashing out on the drama because they want UK and Spain type of high school drama but can we please acknowledge that THIS IS ASIA. The standards and morals are DIFFERENT here. Why are you expecting the UK and Spain kinda storyline in a country that's NOT UK or Spain.
NOT SPOILER FREE
It makes each character so very morally grey that you cannot help but root for all of them.
Kang Ha is driven by revenge but truly cares for Jae-i. He also wants to make amends (I think. I don't think he's the one who sent the last message).
Jae-i is a tortured heroine and will go to any lengths to protect the people she loves and I'm here for it. But she's also someone who acknowledged her mistakes and that of her friends. She's also very steady. Like a rock.
Ri-an, again is someone who is accountable. He takes responsibility for his mistakes once he's aware of it but he's also arrogant. But he's so selectively loyal that it just gives Slytherin vibes. He's also a tortured chaebol and loves loves loves Jae-i.
Woo jin is a mastermind. He's kind but he'll do anything and I mean anything for the person he chooses. It's so cool to see him choosing one friend over another. And he's so artistic. He's a kind face but a wicked mind. So morally grey
Yoon He-ra is jealous and prideful. She herself admits that she's a bitch but she's a bitch with morals. I absolutely loved the dynamics between her and jae-i and the way it ended. And seriously. You will grow to love her.
I loved the way they absolved the love triangle also. They made a case for each one of the characters. They didn't make Jae-i indecisive. She was headstrong and steadfast. And it didn't downgrade one love interest over another. Both love and care for jae-i in their own way. Jae-i also doesn't lead anyone on.
And the way Kang Ha made the school take responsibility- it wasn't your typical revenge drama. That's why I think that the last message wasn't sent by Kang Ha. He's not the type to do it.
All the characters are so morally grey. Especially Ri-an. I loved every single one of them. I would totally recommend it because it really is very good. I genuinely hope this gets a season 2.
