candy darling propaganda: she was a transgender actress probably best known (at least film-wise) for working with andy warhol. lou reed (of the velvet underground) wrote multiple songs about/referencing her. it’s rumored that the song ‘lola’ by the kinks is about her, though I think the band has refuted that. she also acted on stage, including once with a young robert deniro. she wanted to emulate kim novak and joan bennett. it’s said that her mother said “Candy was just too beautiful and talented” to try and stop her from publicly coming out and transitioning.
