Moon Knight - "what's an avatar to a god?" - Ask game, prompt 14
Summary: When you're walking home from a store, about to celebrate the boys' release from Khonshu, things get a little messy as someone follows you home.
Warnings: mentions of blood, alcohol, some creep, and a knife. + dying Y/N.
Word count: 890
Notes: hope you enjoy :)
Tumblr media
They were free as of 2 months ago, free of Khonshu, free to not do his bidding anymore, and I am so proud of them for leaving him behind. I knew it was hard to leave, but my boys did it.
Steven and Marc had been encouraging Jake to finally leave Khonshu since the end of Ammit, near when I first met them. Jake later told me he hated ‘that maldito pollo’ anyway, and didn’t like being told what to do.
______________
I’m walking with a box of chocolates and some wine for me and Steven. Tonight was our night to celebrate, I set up a night for me and each of the boys. Today Steven, tomorrow Jake, and then the day after Marc.
I start to hear footsteps behind me after I leave the store. I continue to walk for a while, waiting for them to turn off somewhere. But the steps continue, continue, continue…   I start to worry, I’m about a two blocks from home, I just can’t have something else happen. I pull out the pocket knife Marc gave me, I turn to face whoever’s following me and-
______________
“Y/N isn’t picking up, guys…” Steven says out loud, and he tries to call again, only to get voicemail again Trying to fidget with a rubik’s cube in one hand, phone in the other.
She’s most likely just picking up extra stuff at the store or just got distracted, it’s fine. Marc says, attempting to comfort, almost sounding like he’s trying to convince himself of that too.
Why so worried, hermano?  Jake asks.
“I dunno, I just got a bad feelin’.” Steven replies, still fidgeting, he looks over to the mirror.  Trust that feeling, go get ‘em!   Jake gives a light smile then gestures to his jacket..
“Yeah.. yeah!” Steven puts on his jacket, and grabs his keys. Jake turns to look back at Steven while he’s not looking, Jake looks mildly concerned.
______________
Finally on the streets, Steven begins to walk toward the direction of the store you were supposed to be at. Not even a block in, he sees a form on the ground, a flashing streetlamp gently illuminating it. He stops, he knows that jacket that’s cuddled around the body—your body-…  he rushes toward you, flipping you onto your back.
There’s so much blood..  Marc says, and that’s all it took. Steven starts sob, “fuck fuck… love, please,” he checks, and you’re breathing, but just barely. He takes out his phone and dials for emergency.
------
You can faintly hear him… his voice, you cling to that.
You open your eyes as much as you can, to a poor sight; one of your boys, crying like it’ll make you not be bleeding, phone to his ear, talking.. you can barely hear out his words now, but you can read his lips one more time, “stay with me, mi amor”.
Jake..
You cling to him.  Him, his quirks, his hand holding yours, the feeling he gives you every time you look at him, all of him.
------
Steven switched out with Jake while connecting to emergency, as he was too panicked to talk. Eventually connecting to services, a man comes on the line. “It would take the closest ambulance twenty-minutes to get out there,” questioning if he it’d be faster to carry you to the nearest hospital or to wait, Jake hears voice too familiar behind him and you.
“Well, well. Appears as though we’ll lose another traveler tonight.”
“Khonshu. No- this.. this won’t be it, this can’t be the end.” His normally confident voice is shaking with nervousness.
“There’s almost no way out of this one, boy.”
“Almost?”  Jake asks, and he is silent. “Respóndeme!!”
Khonshu chuckles, “They would make a great avatar.”. Jakes faces drops, “you.. you surely wouldn’t?”, Marc’s voice echoes in their head,  i-it’s Khonshu, you can’t trust him to-
“Do whatever it takes.” Jake says, without listening, and steps out of the way. Khonshu moves toward their Y/N.  Your eyes open once more, and it’s like you finally see him.  Leaning down, he asks the question, “Do you swear to protect the travelers of the night and bring my vengeance to those who would do them harm?”
You don’t answer.
Jake looks at your chest, just making sure you’re still breathing, and you are.
“Do you swear–“  “yes” it comes out a small whisper, but the word means more than it should.
Khonshu laughs, then returns to his monologue, “then rise. Rise and live again. As my fist of vengeance,” with each word, Jake feels his heart break for you. “As my Moon Knight”
With a sudden glow in your eyes, and the suit comes on… you raise up into a sitting position.
“..Mi amor?” Jake gets down on one knee, you turns toward him. The head part of the suit goes back down, with tears in their eyes, “Jake…” You practically jumps into his arms, “I’m so sorry–“
“Shh, it’s okay, baby.” you start to bawl, you don’t even recognize that it’s probably now Marc you’re talking to. There’s short whispers of “i’m sorry”’s from you and “it’s okay”’s from him until he kisses you and just holds you, leaning in, and whispering sweet nothings in your ear, while Khonshu just watches over his new avatar..

Indian Sports : Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Mallakhambh
India is a diverse nation in terms of its history and customs, and this also holds true for its sports. Indian sports possess a rich and intriguing past, ranging from the traditional sport like cricket to the medieval martial art of Kalaripayattu. We will look at some of the old Indian games, such as Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and Mallakhamb, in more detail in this post. We’ll examine how these pastimes have changed and grown recently, as well as their significance in the past and present.
A Game of Skill and Strategy : Kabaddi
The physical sport known as Kabaddi was first played in medieval India and is now popular all over the globe. Two groups of seven individuals each compete in the game, and the objective is to earn points by entering the other team’s half of the field, touching as many of their players as you can, and then returning to your own half. Participants solely utilize their athletic abilities and talent to play the game; no equipment is required.
Kabaddi players need a combination of physical endurance, speed, and quick thinking to be successful. The national Kabaddi league has gained popularity recently and is now among the most viewed sporting events in the country. With teams from various nations taking part, the league has also aided in raising the game’s prominence on a global scale.
Kho-Kho: A Traditional Game of Speed and Endurance
Two squads of nine players each compete in the ancient Indian game called kho-kho. Each group takes turns chasing and tagging members of the other team while the game is being played on a rectangular ground. In order to win the game, you must tag each player of the other team as rapidly as you can without getting tagged yourself.
Kho-Kho is a fast-paced, agile sport which calls for quick judgment and rapid responses from participants. National and international championships are organized, and the sport is regularly played in schools and universities. Kho-Kho has been increasing in popularity recently, and campaigns are being launched to advertise it nationally as well as internationally.
Mallakhamb: An Ancient Form of Gymnastics
An old Indian sport called Mallakhamb combines gymnastics, aerobics and wrestling. Utilizing nothing but your own weight as support, the sport entails completing numerous acts of acrobatics on a vertical wooden pole or a rope. Mallakhamb is regarded as a highly articulated and difficult sport that calls for a mix of power, mobility, and grace.
India has an extensive history, and festivities and cultural celebrations often include performances of Mallakhamb. Initiatives have been made in recent years to increase the game’s competitiveness and to popularize it. Mallakhamb presently hosts both national and global championships, and the activity is becoming more well-known both domestically and abroad.
Indian Sports: A Rich Cultural Heritage
Athletics in India have a rich cultural legacy which depicts the past and customs of the nation. These practices have been followed for a very long time and have made a substantial contribution to the formation of the country’s distinctive culture. Additionally, they have given teenagers a place to practice crucial life skills like leadership, discipline, and collaboration.
In the past few decades, Indian sports have become more well-known both locally and internationally. Ancient Indian sports are receiving more attention because of the expansion of leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League, and initiatives are being taken to promote and grow them as competitive sports.
Conclusion
To sum up, Indian sports represent an intriguing and varied aspect of the nation’s cultural legacy. A few examples of the wide range of sports that India offers include mallakhamb, kho-kho, and kabaddi. People of every age throughout the nation continue to participate in and appreciate these sports, which have a rich cultural past.
As these old sports gain popularity and recognition, it is imperative that attempts are put forth to preserve and promote them. In order to do this, it must be made sure that adolescents have knowledge of these sports and have the necessary resources for training and skill-building. It also entails providing venues for regional, national, and worldwide championships to promote these sports and draw in a larger audience.
Finally, Indian sports provide an exceptional and intriguing view into the nation’s cultural past. Sports such as these offer a stage for players to demonstrate their talents and motivate others, whether it is via the quick-paced action of Kabaddi, the quickness and agility of Kho-Kho, or the power and ability of Mallakhamb. Let’s honor the rich heritage and historical significance of these activities as they gain popularity while also working together to secure their survival for future generations.

In 2008, Adarsha CP won this award.
Indian Game Kho Kho Information
Kho Kho ranks as one of the most popular traditional sports in India. The origin of Kho Kho is difficult to trace, but many historians believe, that it is a modified form of 'Run Chase', which in its simplest form involves chasing and touching a person. With its origins in Maharashtra, Kho Kho in ancient times, was played on 'raths' or chariots, and was known as Rathera.
Like all Indian games, it is simple, inexpensive and enjoyable. It does, however, demand physical fitness, strength, speed and stamina, and a certain amount of ability. Dodging, feinting and bursts of controlled speed make this game quite thrilling. To catch by pursuit - to chase, rather than just run - is the capstone of Kho Kho. The game develops qualities such as obedience, discipline, sportsmanship, and loyalty between team members.
The rules of the game were framed in the beginning of the 20th century. At Gymkhana Poona, a Committee was formed in 1914, to frame its rules. The first ever rules on Kho Kho were published from Gymkhana Baroda, in 1924. In 1959-60, the first national Kho Kho championship was organised in Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh). The Government has initiated the following awards for the game: Arjuna Award, Eklavya Award for men, Rani Laxmi Bai award for women, Veer Abhimanyu award for boys under 18, and Janaki award for girls under 16.

How is Kho Kho game played?
Each team consists of twelve players, but only nine players take the field for a contest.
A match consists of two innings. An innings consists of chasing and running turns of 7 minutes each.
Eight members of the chasing team sit in their eight squares on the central lane, alternately facing the opposite direction, while the ninth member is an active chaser, and stands at either of the posts, ready to begin the pursuit.
Members of the chasing team have to put their opponent out, touching them with their palms, but without committing a foul.
All the action in Kho Kho is provided by the defenders, who try to play out the 7 minutes time, and the chasers who try to dismiss them.
A defender can be dismissed in three ways:
If he is touched by an active chaser with his palm without committing a foul,
If he goes out of the limits on his own.
If he enters the limit late.
Defenders enter the limit, in batches of three.
After the third and last defender of batch is out, the next batch must enter the limits, before a 'kho' is given by the successful active chaser.
Defenders have full freedom of movement on both sides of the central lane, but the active chaser cannot change the direction to which he is committed. He cannot cross the central lane. An active chaser can change position with a seated chaser, by touching him from behind by palm, and uttering the word 'kho' loudly, and simultaneously, chase or attack is build up through a series of 'khos' as the chase continues with a relay of chasers.
At the end of the innings there is an interval of 5 minutes and an interval of 2 minutes, in between the turns. Each side alternates between chasing and defense.
Kho Kho can be played by men, women, and children of all ages.
The game requires a very small piece of evenly surfaced ground, rectangular in shape, and 27m by 15m. The only equipment required is the two poles.
The game lasts no more than 37 minutes.

Kho Kho Ground History
Kho Kho is a conventional game played in India. Its beginnings are antiquated, with methodologies and strategies probably got from the epic 'Mahabharata'. On the thirteenth day of the war, the Kaurava General Guru Dronacharya made the 'Chakravyuha' a unique military cautious circle which was in the long run infiltrated by the famous champion Abhimanyu. He was murdered inevitably by battling alone against 7 different champions yet he caused hefty setbacks consequently. His style of battling mirrors the idea of 'ring play' – a guarded strategy in Kho.

Numerous different likenesses are seen yet on a more profound level, Kho encourages numerous other attractive qualities – sportsmanship, collaboration, dependability, intensity and confidence just as speed, readiness, system and fast reasoning. This game in itself is a self-improvement instrument for the competitor that responds to the call.
Kho was first shown in the 1936 Berlin Olympics as an extraordinary component by a solitary group. As a global game, it made its first passage in 1996 through the first Asian Kho Championship in Kolkata and was fortified in 2000 at the second titles.
Anyway the degree has stayed Asian and with the development of a British group – the Kho Federation of England has been made and perceived by the Kho Federation of India and Indian Olympic Association. Before long we will be taking this excellent game genuinely onto the International stage – this is our vision.
History of Kho Federation of England
Our originator administrator, Brij Haldania, has been instructing Kho in England for more than 15 years and he has played the game at a public level in India where he spoke to Rajasthan state and was granted Best Player of the State (1974-1977). Having been engaged with the game for quite a while, it was Brij's vision to take Kho to the global stage. On seventh May 2013, Brij imparted this vision to individual Kho players Manoj Gopal and Rohit Haldania, his child, who additionally shared an enthusiasm for the game and this lead to the underlying plans being drafted to set up the Kho Federation of England. Not long after a KKFE the executives council was shaped and the group has worked easily as volunteers to create Kho as a game in England. The group have run after presenting and building up a standard arrangement of decides that is reliable with those set by the Asian Kho Federation.
Since establishing KKFE, Brij went to different Kho titles in India where he met with the Indian authorities and individuals from the Asian Kho Federation to examine plans of a worldwide competition which prompted him being granted Lifetime Achievement in Kho. As there are presently no producers of Kho posts in England, Brij brought back a couple of posts from India, which took into account the primary Kho game with presents on be played in England (August 2015).

SERIES: “stage one: one sided love” [ateez: hongjoong]
genre: angst
ficstyle: bulletpoints + series [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [END]
prompt: inspired by Lou Hoang’s Yeu Em Dai Kho (acoustic version)
note: do any of you guys listen to anything other genres than KPOP?
Tumblr media
you never thought you’d believe in love at first sight
you always wrote and compose songs about love but in all honesty.. you have never been in love before
you thought that many nights you spent watching kdramas and romcoms would give her enough insight of what it was like to be in love
but all of that changed when you met Hongjoong
SURE, call it cliche but you didn’t think that you could fall for someone for doing absolutely nothing
right when he walked passed you as you adjusted your guitar case on your shoulders, there was a feeling of strings being pulled
just his profile alone was enough to make your cheeks turn pink
the way he laughed as his friends slung their arms over his shoulders make you smile with him
(is this what they called heartstrings?) you thought as you shook your head out of this daydream
you thought it wasn’t anything too serious but just gawking at a simple eye candy
but the more you saw Hongjoong, the more he was just eye candy
you could tell he was a sweet and caring guy
and it wasn’t for the girls to swoon over him even more
he was genuinely a kindhearted person and he didn’t need others to see his polite gestures
you noticed this when you saw kitten get stuck in a tree; Hongjoong was climbing the tree and trying to get the kitten to come over to him
he called out to it with his honey-like voice
but before the kitten even got to him, the sounds of the branch snapping got louder and Hongjoong leaped for it
there he was on the ground, using his body as a shield he made sure the kitten was okay
and when it was, he let it run off
you were scared that he was hurt, but you weren’t confident enough to even talk to him yet
so you just stood there, slightly trembling
the tree wasn’t that tall but a fall like that would give him bruises and scratches for sure
later that day, you walked down the hall as you saw him exit the nurse’s office, “are you sure you just tripped?”
he smiled and nods as he laughs off that his clumsiness has earned him a lot of battle scars
and that was just one of the many cases where he placed himself above others
you thought you could finally thought you could gain some sort of courage when you got to be in the same literature class as him AND having an assigned seat next to him
but all you could muster was answering him back with a “hello,” “I’m good and you?” “bye”
he always tried to initiate a conversation with you but you always stupidly answer back with short and blunt sentences
even though people said that you were just an antisocial hermit crab, Hongjoong always said that you were just a little shy
you didn’t know why he would help boost your status around campus when you didn’t really care for it in the first place
you really liked that trait of his; caring about other people’s feelings
the more you talked with Hongjoong, even if it was just simple conversations, the more you liked him and the more you finessed this song about love
you caught yourself smiling over stupid little daydreams involving your future with him
or every single conversations you had with him
even the little habits of his that you picked up
when you didn’t have class with him, you would notice your social life plummet
it would change right when you woke up knowing you were going to go to class that you had with Hongjoong
but you knew out of all the people in his life, you were just a classmate
sadly, that was more than enough for you to slowly fall for him
after hearing about his interest in music composition and lyric writing, you were determined that right when you finished writing your song, you would confess to him
you almost didn’t want to finish the song, even though you were basically done with it
your heart wasn’t ready for it
but you promised yourself so you lifted your head high and made your way onto campus
you hummed your tune in your head over and over until you got to class
you noticed Hongjoong standing at the doorway
and he wasn’t by himself
he was with another girl
someone you’ve seen before, she was the prettiest girl on campus, you agreed to that statement when some other people mentioned her name
you never so Hongjoong so giggly and blushy
your heart was so conflicted
you smiled because he was smiling
but your heart was hurting because he wasn’t smiling for you
you quietly cleared your throat as you thumped on your chest, hoping for the pain to go away
Hongjoong looks down at his watch and looks back up at the sparkly doe-eyed girl , “I have time, I’ll walk you to class”
and with that, you walked fast pass Hongjoong with shoulders slightly brushed against each other
he raised his hand to say his daily greetings to you but you didn’t look back at him
he thought of the situation as odd since you always greeted him back... but maybe it was because you didn’t see him
that didn’t bother him too much so he shrugged and chatted with the girl to her class
when he returned to the classroom, he noticed that there was a change in seating arrangements
you were sitting in the far front as he sat in the far back
he wanted to ask you if you were feeling alright but class was about to start in a couple of seconds
with that, you and Hongjoong drifted farther and farther away from each other
(maybe it was a sign) you thought as you lightly crinkled the song you worked so hard on
you woke up from your concentrated daze by the girl Hongjoong walked to class
she smiled at you as you asked if she could sit in the seat across from you
you timidly nodded
she tucked her long, silky hair behind her hair and struck her other arm out for you to take, “I’m Aurora”
you took it, “Y/N”
trying to be polite, you lightly took it, only grabbing onto her fingers
your insides were boiling, (what could she possibly want from me?)
“so you’re kinda close with Hongjoong right? you’re the only girl who I’ve seen Hongjoong talk to so I wanna know what’s he like? what does he like? what kind of girl does he like?”
ah, there was the answer, she wanted to use you
something inside you wanted to lash out at her, telling her that she would never be enough for him
but the little voice in the back of your head pulled you back to your senses
you’ve seen how happy he looks just standing next to her; is that what you looked like when you would stand next to him?
all these thoughts were swimming in your head, you didn’t know how to reply to her
her warm hands met on top of yours, “I really REALLY like Hongjoong, I’ve never met anyone like him before..”
you wanted to say “me too,” but you knew you couldn’t
this wasn’t even a competition; you weren’t even a player at the start of the game
you were just a bystander trying to be apart of something you’re not
you saw a poster of a music gig for a bar that was known to be a hotspot for couples; apparently it was going to be big because there was a prize for the top 3 performances
“how about you take to the music gig this weekend? he likes music and I think that it would be a cozy place for a date..” you couldn’t look at her in the eyes
Aurora was ecstatic; she held your hands even tighter as she jumped out of her chair
“of course! why didn’t I think of that?!”
you nodded at her with an agreeing facial expression as you got up to leave, “I need to go-”
“WAIT! as my way of thanking you, I’ll get you a spot on for the gig! I know you are amazing at playing the guitar! Hongjoong would love it!”
how could you say no?
it’s been so long since you’ve seen him face to face...
but before you could say anything, Aurora opens her mouth, “you’ll definitely win that money prize if you do!”
you convinced yourself that you were in it for the prize.. but it was just to see Hongjoong’s heartwarming smile again
you agreed to do it with another nod of the head
Aurora squeals as she hugs you, suffocating you with her sickly-sweet perfume and dashes off as she waves goodbye to you
you slumped back in your chair; what were you getting yourself into?
[ON THE DAY OF THE GIG]
you dressed yourself up as if it was you on that date
soft wavy hair sat on your shoulder
you had light makeup on; a very light burnt orange blush on your cheekbones matched with a rust-colored gradient lip, topped off with curled eyelashes and mascara
you matched a pair of black chunky boots over some cream slouchy socks that hung below your calves with a corduroy camel-colored mini dress
it had bishop sleeves; it made you feel comfortable even though the length of the dress hit your mid-thighs
you didn’t even know if Hongjoong was going to be there or not
when it was your turn, you held your heart and took a deep breath before entering the stage
you immediately made eye contact with Hongjoong and that made your heart fluttered
you almost completely forgotten about Aurora and you bit the sides of your cheeks before making the last adjustments of tuning to your guitar
if you were correct, this was the first time you would play the guitar in front of Hongjoong and your first time singing in public
these were a lot of firsts for you
but since your first love was already shattered, all these firsts were just sitting ducks
[you sang about being foolishly in love]
you couldn’t stop looking over at Hongjoong and Aurora as they were holding hands the whole time
nearing the end of the song, you stared straight into Hongjoong’s eyes; hoping that your lyrics got through to him
you passionately strummed and literally sang your heart away
with the last note, you felt a stream of tears run down your face
you quickly bowed and left the stage
you wanted to leave the bar as fast as you could but you were stopped by the staff and they were going to choose the winners soon
you didn’t want the prize
you just wanted to be with Hongjoong, you wanted to be the one holding his hand as another sings her heart out for him knowing that you were the only one that was going to matter to him
you had won first place by a landslide
you saw Hongjoong get out of his chair to give you a standing applause
but you were stone-cold when you bowed to collect your prize
the prize of a meer $2,000 couldn’t fix the gaping hole inside of your heart
you found cards from record labels in your bouquet of flowers alongside with your prize
although being in the music industry was a big dream of yours, you didn’t think that it costed that pain in your heart
you chuckled at how stupid and naive you had became, blinded by love and causing you to hurt so badly
you looked over at Hongjoong and Aurora as they shared drinks and laughed the night away
one
last
time
you slung your guitar case over your shoulder as you sighed into the starry night sky on the veranda, “I guess I really did love you foolishly..”
“I’ll cheers to that”
you heard someone respond to you
there was a boy, he seemed to be around the same age as you as he raised his dark liquor to you
“were you talking to me?” you pointed at yourself as you looked around you cautiously
he smiles at his drink before answering you, “love is sucha stupid thing, but we always fall for it...”
you thought he was kind of weird so you nodded and left; leaving his words echo in your head throughout the whole night
“see you on campus tomorrow-” the boy raises his two hands to form a camera frame at the direction you left in and clicks his tongue to imitate the sound of a camera “-Y/N”
WHO SHOULD I WRITE FOR NEXT IN THIS SERIES?

My Best Friends Of School Life🤞❤
In my school i was very coward person in the front of unknown person and i was very shy person too. But in my friends i was like i’m the boss! hahaha!! In my school i had many friends but There are two person who are my Best Friends and both are very important to me, because when we are together we don’t need anyone. we just chill with each other, My both friends name is Vijay and Jayram. vijay’s caste was Bhojpuri and Jayram’s caste was Orisha.
In the school we had a lots of fun. In one of our three if someone is getting punishment then we both also do some shit to get punishment. Our sir has to say ‘Get out of my class’ and then we go to the toilet and come back after the lecture. In the class we three always sit at the last bench, Jairam was a thief not like criminal. He was just school thief because he used to stole everyone’s pencils, pen and books. He used to stole Vijay’s and mine pencils also but we know who stole our pencils.
The most memorable time in the school was ‘Recess’. In the recess we used to play ‘Pakda Pakdi’, Kho-Kho and many more. But In the recess first we had to lunch. we never took lunch box from home, Because In school an government employees had to come and they give food or lunch to the school employees. By sited in classroom we can see the office room where food or lunch had to placed. The government provides Food and Sometime breakfast to the government school. Monday To Thursday they give ‘KHICHDI’ and on Friday they give poha. and on saturday they give biscuits because on Saturday there is no recess. Me and my friends mostly have Khichdi, and we all eat in only one Lid that is not Lid actually that was lanyard lid, hahaha!!
after School we don’t go to home, we always go in the ground which is outside the school. after playing games for an hour we go to home, by walking with doing craziest thing. Its have been 3 year my school is finished. now i’m pursuing graduation from university or Mumbai. But they both are in my contacts and we communicate also sometimes. The friends of school are really memorable. In the school everything is memorable, that little little fights for pen and pencils and sharing lunch with each other. Yes I miss them both very much. I hope we will meet soon.

Traught writing prompt: Snapshots of Artemis slowly falling in love with Dick starting with his baby blues catching her off-guard one day.
Title: Two Solitudes That Meet
Summary: Moments between Dick and Artemis.
AO3
Artemis preferred dark eyes.
There was no deep philosophical or psychological reason for this preference. It wasn’t as if she had a hard and fast rule about it when it came to the people she dated. It was just a simple matter of having always found light coloured eyes less aesthetically pleasing. It was a pattern she was simultaneously aware of and had little enough reason to think about – much less question – until one day, in the awkward time between night and dawn, after she and Nightwing had stumbled into the latter’s Blüdhaven apartment, too tired to even walk straight, much less for Artemis make it back to Gotham.
Artemis collapsed onto the sofa. Nightwing headed for the kitchen, instead, returning quickly with a first aid kit. He sat down on the armrest closest to her feet and gestured at her. She looked up at him without comprehension, fighting to keep her eyes open.
“What’re you…?” she mumbled. “Not hurt.”
“Come on,” he said. “We should wrap your ankle, I saw that twist.”
“It’s not bad,” she protested halfheartedly. He smiled a bit, leaning over to pat her on the shoulder.
“Better safe than sorry. I’ll do it for you, but I’m gonna need you to move a bit.”
His shoulders were slumped, and she could see the tension in his face and back as he tried not to let the fatigue come through. For that reason alone, she grumbled as she sat up and stretched out her leg, but refrained from actually complaining.
Even exhausted, Nightwing was efficient. He wrapped her ankle quickly and just snugly enough, then closed the kit and set it aside, apparently deeming the kitchen too far a walk to make right then. Only then did he pull off his mask. He met Artemis’s gaze and smiled, the tension draining away. She started.
She’d known, of course, that Dick’s very blue eyes were ones she trusted. After all, she’d known him for years now, in all forms of his identity. But when she imagined them, what she always saw was a mischievous gleam and dancing lights, bright and excited and so full of life that even looking at them was draining, made her feel ten years older. Right then, in the dim light of his apartment, fixed on her, they seemed more muted – tired and serious, fond and gentle. Right then, they seemed almost impossibly safe.
Dick looked away first, shifting from the armrest to the sofa itself, Artemis moving her feet obligingly to give him room. They stayed there for a while without speaking, the silence companionable rather than awkward, until Dick shifted to look back at her, and the moment passed.
“So, you hungry?” he asked, breaking the silence. “I have…”
He paused and made a face. “Actually, since I think if I try to cook right now, I will collapse in the kitchen, I have a few raw eggs, some hot sauce, and cereal.”
Artemis huffed out something approximating a laugh. Her eyes started drifting closed again, and this time, she didn’t bother trying to fight it. “Tomorrow, Bird Boy.”
He made a noise of wordless agreement and stretched out, knees hooking over the armrest and head resting on Artemis’s hip. The last thing she thought before sleep took over was that it had been the best night she’d had in months.
Even after Stanford and Star City, long after she’d lived elsewhere, Gotham was still Artemis’s home. Standing on top of Wayne Tower and looking down at the city she’d grown up in, she wondered how she could have ever managed to delude herself into thinking she could ever walk away from this place for long.
She didn’t have either her bow or her sword with her. She wasn’t in costume. If someone caught her up here, they’d almost certainly complain about her trespassing. But what could she do? It was the best view in the city.
She wrapped her jacket more tightly around herself. The night wind was biting this high up and her ears had already gone a little numb, but she couldn’t bring herself to move away from the edge, much less to lower ground. The distant roar of city life in her ears, the streetlights and headlamps and movement…she couldn’t look away.
Gotham City. No place like it.
In the end, it was a voice, coming from the doorway into the building, that broke her out of her reverie. “Hey, stranger.”
The voice was so familiar, she didn’t even flinch. Instead, she smiled to herself, and waited for its owner to come up behind her. “Hey, Dick.”
“Good to see you’re back in town. It’s been a while.”
“Not that long,” she said, and twisted so that she could look up – had he gotten taller again? – at him. “You know I can never stay gone for long.”
He smiled. It lit up his entire face. “I know the feeling.”
He brought his hands to her shoulders, rubbing her arms up and down a bit to warm her up. “Have you been up here for a while?”
She said, “Not that long.”
It was stretching the truth, and Dick knew her well enough to know that, but he didn’t call her out on it, instead opting to ask, “Long enough to get hungry?”
“Why, have a place in mind?”
He wrapped an arm around her and guided her towards the stairwell. “Your pick – tomato bisque in a bread bowl made by a certain god amongst butlers at the same table as the Batman, Robin, and Black Bat? Or…bo kho at a lovely little establishment just outside the Narrows that’s open late, never too crowded, and home to the best Vietnamese this side of the Pacific?”
Her mouth watered. She leaned into his side a bit, unable to resist the warm solidity. “Mmmm. As tempting as the soup and hanging out with Cass sounds…”
“You’d rather just hang out with your favourite bat?” he teased. He tightened his arm around her briefly. “Vietnamese it is.”
For all the bird imagery, Dick had always seemed more feline than avian to Artemis. Yes, he soared through the air with elegance that could best be described as flight, but there was a strength behind the movements, a casual grace that reminded her of nothing more than a cat. Watching him sparring with Bruce in the Batcave made warm smugness rise in her chest, because she’d been right, and it was clearer here than it had ever been.
Bruce was fast. For a man his size, he was almost unbelievably fast. Dick was still faster.
It wasn’t just speed. As fast as Dick was, he was a couple inches shorter and considerably slimmer than his adoptive father. Even a lucky hit from Bruce would be dangerous. Dick’s blows had to be both hard and accurate to end the round before that – and Artemis knew from experience just how much of both of those things they were.
Dick ducked under a kick, twisted away from a punch – Artemis winced sympathetically as the punch glanced off his ribs – got close enough to slam his elbow into Bruce’s solar plexus, driving him back a step.
They kept going, forward and backwards, twirling around. It was viciously beautiful, and Artemis couldn’t look away.
Finally, Dick did a back handspring to avoid Bruce’s knee. His foot caught Bruce under the chin, knocking the older man off balance. Within seconds, Dick had him pinned. “Yield?”
Bruce grumbled, but conceded, “Yield.”
They both got up and moved off the mats. Dick was limping a little. Artemis made sure to file away which leg.
“I have a meeting,” Bruce said, wiping at his face with a towel. “I’ll be back in time for patrol. Okay here?”
“Yes,” Dick said, shooing him towards the stairs. “Just go.”
Bruce didn’t. Or at least, not immediately. Instead, he looked over at Artemis. She tensed automatically in anticipation of criticism, but it didn’t come. Nor did a smile. Instead, he just nodded at her. “Artemis.”
She nodded back. He was gone in seconds.
One of these days, she was going to learn how Bruce Wayne could, while wearing sweats, give off the impression of a cape billowing behind him. Too bad it wasn’t this one.
“Up for a round?” Dick said, leaning against a table to catch his breath. Artemis tilted her head to one side and surveyed him.
How had this even happened? How had she gone from just another wannabe vigilante – one who’d only been accepted onto the team because Batman had felt sorry for her – to someone welcome in the freaking Batcave? To someone that called Nightwing her best friend?
She had no clue.
She didn’t know, but what she did know was that she couldn’t be luckier.
“I am if you are,” she said, jumping to her feet and stretching out a bit, grinning to herself. Dick’s eyes gleamed.
“I always am.”
The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and Artemis had just woken up to coffee, waffles, and one of her top four favourite people in the world.
“What the hell are you doing in my apartment?” she asked as she sat down at the kitchen table. She wrapped her hands around the mug in front of her, brought it close to her face, and inhaled deeply. “Also – marry me.”
Dick grinned at her and took a sip from his own mug. It wasn’t enough to hide his smile. “Maybe later.”
“You gonna answer the what are you doing here question?” Artemis asked, eyes narrowing. Dick looked very pleased with himself. Suspicious behaviour if she had ever seen it.
“Right. Finish eating, then go get ready. We have to go to Metropolis.”
She blinked. “Um…why?”
“You know how you said that one time that even Gotham doesn’t have enough crime to sustain how many vigilantes it has? Well, Clark is off planet this week, so I volunteered our services for the weekend. And since we need an excuse for being there, Bruce got us tickets for the Meteors Knights game. And the Metropolis ballet tomorrow. Fun, right?”
Artemis shook her head in disbelief and drained her coffee, unable to hold back her laugh entirely. “Have I told you recently that you’re ridiculous?”
“Maybe,” Dick said. “But you love me anyway.”
“Yeah,” Artemis admitted. “I guess I do.”

That Time We Amazed Ourselves
The day began just as any other, with his father pulling him out from his senseless dreams, at 6 in the morning. Him requesting his father to let him sleep for a bit more, then his father denying and dragging him out of the bed. With a great struggle coming to an end, he managed to brush his teeth and join his father for exercise in the lawn, still yawning and wanting to fall back onto the bed. His sight falls on the dancing leaves all around him with droplets of water shining on them and gets hit right in the face with a cool breeze shattering his love for sleep. He finds himself under the warm and welcoming morning sun, lighting him up strong enough to last the whole day. With the fresh energy piled up in his body, he enjoys himself till it’s time for school. And at that moment starts the downfall of his mood.
It was the ‘Sports Day of the Year’ at his school. Each and every student wandering the grounds excited for the games they are about to play and hope to win. He, on the other hand, had not given his name for participation in any of all the sports happening that day. He was in a football team, but as a substitute most likely to be benched the whole day. Not interested in sitting on the sidelines all day, he leaves the football ground and starts circling the whole area looking for a place to fit in. He passes through cricket, volley ball and basketball, all lot of games he is neither interested in nor good at.
Then he stumbles onto the badminton competition. Signs up with refilled joy. Nonetheless, he couldn’t move further than the first round. Being out from the one thing he thought he could do something with, he sat under a tree with no hopes for rest of the day, scrolling through his phone for a while. He then walked around the grounds looking at all the happy faces enjoying their stints, thinking about what else could he do to make something out of this day.
Then came his friends bearing some good news. They heard about the kho-kho competition and were ready to play, but they still need a team. A few of them started rounding up all their friends scouting for players. Surprisingly, they managed to find enough players for the first game. Most of them their own classmates, some of them not so interested and some of them not so athletic. But a few of them were determined and enthusiastic enough to make others slowly get involved in the game.
The rules were simple. Two teams play to tag the players of the other team. And the team which tagged the most players at the end wins. The competition began and they turned out to be nothing of a threat to any of the teams involved. Within no time they found themselves at the edge of the competition, with one decisive game in hand, losing which would mean exiting the competition. As the game began, they did not seem very attractive in their play. Started as chasers and by the nine-minute timer hit end, they managed to tag a total of eight players, not too bad for their current form. Now, all they had to do was to try and succeed in getting tagged less than eight times.
All the chasers ready on the field, eight on their knees and the starting chaser at a pole, he starts as a defender with two other confident teammates. The timer starts ticking and they begin their sprint, chaser at his full speed and the defenders trying out their strategies to stay safe. They use all of their skills, the twists and feints, the speed and control. They try their best and remain out-of-reach for four and a half minutes, halfway through their run, when their bodies start to give up. They run out of energy to keep up for much longer, panting for air and slowing down in their tracks. The opposition notices and feels they could turn this around. Put these three defenders down and they’re left with all weak players who are unproblematic to deal with. But our defenders were not ready to go down already. They pulled what little was left in their hands. There are weak players in all teams. The defenders identified those in their opponents and started tricking them into committing fouls. Tricking the opponents to run in wrong directions and making themselves comfortable on the pitch for a little longer. However, tricks don’t last as long as skills and so all three defenders fall back. They finally get tagged, but with just a minute left on the clock. The next three defenders running into the game had a quite simple task at hand. Hold their position for just a minute, even failing at which would still mean they’re two points in the lead. They show that they shouldn’t be underestimated and end the run with two players still untouched on the ground.
The team erupts in joy. Everyone jumping up and down in stunned happiness. They carry the momentum and go on to finish the competition as runners. The back-to-back plays drain them completely, but they still continue to play with enthusiasm and excitement fuelling their minds. As the day ends, he settles down onto a chair looking at his silver medal, remembering what a day he just had. All the disappointment at the beginning followed by the sudden, unplanned achievement. He gathered with his teammates, thinking of how they pulled a miracle, how they won the game with a team made on the spot, with no practice of any kind. He came there in the morning searching for some place to fit, and left home with not just a prize for the day but a memory for the rest of his life, with what he was searching from the start, a team to share his joy, a group that amazed themselves.

The Returned
Tumblr media
The sun sets over the distant horizon of the Azim steppe. As twilight settles in, the shaman slowly strides unshod into the camp. Each step sounding out as bone rattles against stone, or metal upon metal. Various bits of leather braided so that each motion would melodically ring out. Faces turn, all of them familiar in some way. Though some different than the last he was here. Some look surprised. Others laugh. A few pull faces and turn away. One lone one seethes. White paint displayed proudly upon his face, Khojin strides with confidence. No. Determination. Unafraid and unbowed. Despite the jeers and taunts issued from some. “<I am Khojin>” he calls out over their voices, arms spread wide. “<You know me for I am kin.>” This gets even louder cries of outrage, of course. Traitor. Liar. Coward.
“<You would dare show up here again after what you’ve done?>” Shouts back a voice that almost makes him wince with the memory of it. The seething one from before stepping out from the crowd. “<I would, Ganbataar. Challenge me if you are so outraged>” he speaks with a serenity that is most unlike him, though it hides a fire that is seen in his eyes. No sooner does he say this than the challenge is issued and the crowd surrounds them. No way out now. He must stand and fight. The entire iloh watches. Judging. Many place bets. None are in Khojin’s favor. As is little surprise. Ganbataar has long been one of Khojin’s bullies in this life. Easily double the man’s size and then some by now. A warrior in his prime once more. To each a sword is given, the slightly curved saber more fit for fighting on horseback but traditionally used for duels like this, and they take places across from one another in that circle formed by tribe. Blades clash over and over again. Khojin does his best to avoid Ganbataar’s strikes but the man seems to have been waiting for this day to come, ready for each of the shaman’s evasions and ripostes. A particularly well timed blow sends Khojin reeling back against the throng surrounding them, his head spinning, brow split open by a pommel strike. Red washes over white and the shaman shrieks as he’s shoved back into the fray. Yet each time he comes in with fury he’s turned away, Ganbataar taunting him. Teasing him. After all they learned how to fight together. Soon the larger of the two tires of the game he’s playing and with two hands comes cleaving down upon Khojin who barely manages to get his position right to block that. Though not well enough. The sheer size difference between the two means his block isn’t as solid as he’d like and his arms buckle, letting that blade bite into clavicle. An idea hits him, a moment of clarity in the haze of pain and imminent defeat.Once he shoves that blade aside, the runt wobbles and then topples over. Looking, for all intents and purposes, like he’d passed out. From shock, or blood loss, or even just exhaustion from trying to fend off that larger foe. Ganbataar looms and in a flash Kho darts, rolling between legs and with a fluid motion hamstringing him. As Gan falls, the use of his legs literally cut out from under him, Khojin lets his tail constrict about the larger man’s throat once it’s in reach. In the same motion he tries to stab downwards, as if to impale that sword into the ground through Gan. This gives the warrior a dilemma, guard against the stab but leave his throat to be crushed, or break the grip on his throat and take a sword wherever Khojin aims. He takes the first option, of course. And during the struggle, Khojin throwing his might into it, his tail tightens and tightens like a python about it’s prey. Eventually something snaps and Ganbataar’s struggle is over, Khojin falling atop him as the strength of the larger man fades and his blade strikes home after death. Silence falls upon the crowd.
Slowly the shaman rises, one arm limp from pain and injury, the other raised to clamp hand about the wound. “<I am Dotharl. As I have been. And Nhamaa willing as I will be. Let this victory stand proof of that fact.>”
There is no more dissent and the crowd parts for Khojin who stumbles off further into the iloh.

Old Memories
In our time, bicycle was learned in three stages,
Step 1: Scissors
2nd stage - stick
The third stage - padding ...
It was not so easy to ride a bicycle then, because at that time the cycle was only driven by papa or uncle in the house.
* * then the height of the bicycle used to be 24 inches, which used to be equal to our shoulder when we stand, it was not appropriate to ride such a bicycle.
* "Scissors" used to be the art where we used to enter the middle of the triangle made in the frame of the bicycle and run with both feet on both the pedals.
And when we used to drive like this, we used to stretch our chest and take out the face from behind the handle, and by doing "clean clean" we used to ring the bell so that people can see the garden that the boy is running the cycle.
Today's generation is deprived of this "adventure", they do not know that at the age of eight ten years, riding a 24-inch bicycle was like flying a "ship".
We do not know how many times we have broken our knees and mouth and the amazing thing is that then there was no pain even after falling, looking around, used to stand silently wiping his half briefs.
Now technology has made a lot of progress, as soon as they are five years old, children start cycling, that too without falling. Two two-fit bicycles have arrived, and * children of the rich now drive straight, small bikes are available in the market *.
But today's children will never understand that balancing on a big bicycle was the first lesson of life at that young age! * "Responsibilities" used to have the first link where you were given the responsibility that now you have become capable of grinding wheat.
* Go from here to the mill with a bicycle and come back home running the scissors from there *!
And believe me, the happiness in fulfilling this responsibility was also wonderful.
And it is also true that * after us the "scissors" practice became extinct *.
We are the last generation of people in the world who learned to ride a bicycle in three steps!
*First Step Scissors*
*second stage stick*
* The third step padding.*
* we are the last generation *, who have heard stories of fairies and kings sitting in mud houses many times, have eaten food sitting on the ground, drank tea in a plate.
* we are the last people *, who have played games like traditional games, gilli-danda, hide-and-seek, kho-kho, kabaddi, marbles with their friends in the locality grounds in childhood.
* we are the people of the last generation *, who have done homework in low or yellow light of bulb and read novels.
* we are the people of the same generation *, who have exchanged their feelings for their loved ones in letters.
* we are the people of the last generation *, who have spent their childhood without cooler, AC or heater.
* we are the last people *, who often used to apply more mustard oil in their short hair, go to school and weddings.
* we are the people of the last generation *, who have made copies, books, clothes and hands black and blue with ink or pen.
* we are the last people *, who have killed teachers.
* we are the last people *, who used to see the elders of the locality from afar, run away from the nook and come home.
* we are the last people *, who have made a shave by applying soap from the round box of Godrej soap. Those who have drank jaggery tea. For a long time, black or red toothpaste or white tooth powder has been used in the morning.
*we are definitely the last people* who have listened to programs like BBC news, Vividh Bharati, All India Radio and Binaca on radio, in moonlit nights.
* we are the last people *, when we all used to sprinkle water on the roof in the evening. After that, he used to sleep on white sheets. A stand-alone fan used to air all. Even after sunrise in the morning, he used to sleep insolently. All that time has passed. The sheets no longer lay. Coolers in compartment like rooms, nights in front of AC, days pass.
* we are the people of the last generation *, who have seen those beautiful relationships and the people who share their sweetness, which kept on decreasing. Now the more people are reading and writing, the more they are getting lost in selfishness, indolence, uncertainty, loneliness, and despair. We are the lucky ones who have felt the sweetness of relationships...!!*
*We are the only generation* who have obeyed their parents and are also obeying their children.
