...Ever seem to notice that a lot of those ~*~fall aesthetic~*~ posts seem to ignore that a lot of us have seasonal affective disorder and absolutely hate the impending cold weather?

I kinda feel like I can't connect with toku fandom right now because I'm not watching any of the current shows. I haven't started Kyuranger yet because I just haven't been bothered, and I literally can't watch Ex-Aid because of sensory issues. Even in the past few years I haven't been able to get beyond the first handful of episodes of most toku shows for whatever reason, although those are for other reasons (mostly because I get bored of them and/or the gimmicky aspects).
And when I look at where the fandom's interests are, it's primarily on whatever is the new shiny thing and rarely much interest in older content. I also can't connect with many other female fans because they're so obsessed with shipping/slash, which I don't care for. Add in my other personal issues with certain people in the fandom and I feel so...burned out on...well, everything, even older toku. And I don't know what to do about that. :/

“OMG Sera Myu at Anime Matsuri! We should support more Sera Myu in the US!”
...Really now?
Then how come I didn’t see all of you Sera Myu fans turning out for Power Morphicon 2014...
Tumblr media
...or for Eternal Con 2016 in New York last June (which even had a bunch of the DiC/Cloverway Sailor Moon dub cast too!)...
Tumblr media
...OR for Power Morphicon 2016 last August...
Tumblr media
...for this guy? How come I never saw any of you talking about these appearances before or after the fact either, even though they were mentioned in various places online? How come I’ve never seen any of you talking about wanting ANY Myu cast--new or old alike--at US conventions before now?
But I bet that’s probably because most of you in the Myu fandom right now don’t even know who this is, do you? This is Yuuta Mochizuki, one of the original Myu cast members and still one of the longest-running cast members EVER with eight years (1993-2001) and literally HUNDREDS of Myu performances to his name. He was Kunzite in the first Myu ever, then moved on to Tuxedo Mask (1993-98, and still the longest-running Tux), King Endymion (1998-99), and Count Dracul (2000-01), not to mention the action choreographer from 1998 to 2001. Literally a living legend of Sera Myu.
Yes, the earliest Myu are very much a product of their time and the costumes aren’t as pretty as the current ones, but without the original musicals that ran from 1993 to 2005, Sera Myu as you know it now may not even exist! Did you know that the original musical theme “La Soldier” was used in the climactic battle at the end of R? Or that the version of “Moonlight Densetsu” used for the S and SuperS openings was performed by the musical cast of the time? That’s how big the Myu were in the ‘90s! Even previously manga-only attacks like Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber and the Inner Senshi’s new attacks from the Infinity arc showed up in the Myu a good 20 years before they were finally animated in Crystal.
So to make a long story short...if you really actually cared about Sera Myu cast appearing in the US, you’d support ALL the Myu cast, not just the new!Myu. The original cast paved the way for what you love now; the least you can do is show them your respect.
(And no, I don’t care that the conventions mentioned here focused more on his tokusatsu roles. I don’t care that I’m even cosplaying one of those roles in one of my photos here. I happen to be a fan of those too. But I know for certain that he and his US agent want to use his Myu roles as a means of appearing at more conventions. They’ve even personally asked me to provide material to help with such promotion, which I was more than happy to do purely out of appreciation and love for the Myu and expecting nothing else in return. And isn’t that kind of selfless love and appreciation what Sailor Moon as a whole is all about?)

It’s not unreasonable to ask people not to add unnecessary commentary when reblogging my posts, is it? If you really don’t have anything important to add to it, save it for the tags.

Controversial opinion: I hate how dub-centric the YST/RW fandom still is; virtually no one else uses the Japanese names or anything. A while back, I had someone leave a snide comment on a piece of my art on DeviantArt about how I should’ve used a dub name in it instead of the Japanese name because it would be “more familiar” or some BS like that.
No. Stop that. You don’t tell me what to do with my art. You don’t tell me what names I “should” use. I use the Japanese names exclusively. Don’t attach dub names to my work when I use the Japanese names either. If you don’t like that, GTFO.
Yeah, yeah, I know, everyone “grew up” with the dub, that’s how people got into the show, that’s how people got into anime altogether, that’s what they know. I got into it that way too. Whatever. But it’s been over 20 years since then. I’m over it

Okay, you know what?
If you have a beef with my opinions, tell it to my face. Knock it off with your passive-aggressive bullshit that you try to cover in ~*let’s all just get along!*~ glitter.
Alternately...if you don’t like what I say, don’t say anything at all. Or unfollow or block me. I don’t care. I have the right to control how my creative works are seen and distributed. It’s not for you to do as you see fit. Don’t like that? Too bad. Grow up and realise that not everything has to revolve around you.

...Yeah, you won’t be seeing me sharing that recent Tokusatsu Network article about a certain cosplayer. I ain’t giving any more attention to someone who deliberately backstabbed me and tried to ruin my reputation with her bullshit lies. If you actually honestly believe the lies (which have absolutely no basis in reality) that I use my Geki cosplay to stalk and try to sleep with a certain sentai personality, please unfollow me, then kindly go fuck yourself.

Auto-blocking every last “it’s gonna be May” post that comes across my dash, because I’m bloody sick and tired of that meme. I never liked any of those ‘90s boy bands anyway.
Yeah, yeah, I’m a grumpy old fart who hates fun, I know. I just don’t equate “fun” with “being beat over the head nearly every other post with the same damn meme.”

I also find it deeply hypocritical to go and repost my AMV from 2013 without credit or permission a while back when I had more than one post of it since then, but then go and reblog a photoset of mine from 2013 just fine today. If you’re already going back far enough into those tags either in the main tag or my blog to dig up those photosets, you’re going to find my posts for that AMV eventually too.
And you bet I’m still sore about that reposting. I’m deeply protective of my creative work, and I don’t like people just doing whatever the hell they feel like with it. Learn to respect other people’s work, or don’t post anything at all.

I have been quiet for some time (you can blame work kicking my butt and a crapton of other real-life things taking priority), but I’m sure there are some wondering why I did not contribute to the Samurai Troopers Fanzine.
Quite honestly...I was not going to when it was being started and hosted by a certain fandom blog that refused to respect my creative works when I politely asked them to, but happily respected other fans’ creative works. They reposted an AMV of mine without my permission or credit, even though I already had an older, existing post for it on my blog they could’ve reblogged instead, then refused to add credit when I asked them to do so, giving me multiple different BS excuses as to why they wouldn’t credit me and why they wouldn’t reblog the original post. Yet I would later find that they would reblog from other creators in the fandom whose original posts were older than mine without issue. I eventually had to block the blog in question to keep them from taking my stuff, then blacklist the name of their blog so I wouldn’t have to see their posts anymore. If you can’t treat me or my work with the same respect as your friends or other fans, why should I contribute to your project?
As an artist, cosplayer, and AMV creator in this fandom, I--and my creative work--have as much right to be treated with respect as anyone else in this fandom. I’m tired of being treated like I’m lesser or inferior because I’m not part of some clique or because I don’t like the dub anymore, and there also needs to be a discussion in this fandom on how fanworks in general are treated.. If you have a problem with my opinions, act like the adult you supposedly are and talk to me privately. Maybe we can actually work this out.

I’m still irrationally annoyed that something of mine was reposted last night--without even crediting me, no less--instead of simply reblogging the original post I made for it three years ago and could have easily been found in the relevant tag if you dug back far enough (since it’s not a super-active tag). The fact that my request for that original post to be reblogged has so far gone ignored/unnoticed also bothers me.
I don’t usually have issues with this particular fandom, but...come on. Please show respect for all creative works, whether they’re artwork, writing, videos, and so on, and those of us who create them.

If you’re going to make a flippant response to a nitpick of mine, maybe you should’ve, oh, I don’t know...used the correct term in the first place.

I think I might be one of the only people who wants there to be a male actor as Tuxedo Mask in Sera Myu again. :/
I mean really...okay, I know y’all go nuts for the Takarazuka thing (I’m personally not interested in it), and I don’t have issue with women playing other male roles in the musicals (they did that plenty in the ’90s/early ’00s shows), but Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask just feels to me like the one role that should be played by a guy based solely on how important he is to the Sailor Moon canon.

A piece of my teenage years--and my innocence--died today, as many of the people I called my heroes during those years needlessly attacked a good friend of mine over something incredibly trivial and were horribly petty and childish afterwards.
If you want to know what I’m talking about, you are free to head on over to my Twitter to read all about it. I’m too tired and drained of energy from all this to rewrite all of it here.
All I’ll say here is this: “The Order” and their cryptic bullshit social media spam can stick it where the sun doesn’t shine, and I’m so thankful that the majority of them aren’t here on Tumblr.

Power Rangers/toku fandom, please stop with the “PR is whitewashing of sentai” bullshit already. It just makes you look like one of the stereotypical “Tumblr SJW” types that everyone tends to mock. The claim of “whitewashing” looks especially absurd given that PR is known for having diverse casts covering a wide variety of ethnicities. I also don’t know how you expect PR to completely retain sentai storylines without it 1) looking really ridiculous (Samurai, anyone?--that’s the only season I would even consider akin to whitewashing) or 2) getting censored to hell and back because standards in American children’s programming are different from Japanese children’s programming. Even if you just brought over sentai and tried to dub it for TV, you’d still run into that same issue with the censorship.
Furthermore, it’s kinda ridiculous to call female Yellow Rangers “color-gender stereotyping” when PR has also had male Yellows. Tideus in Alien Rangers, Dustin in Ninja Storm, and Chip in Mystic Force were all Yellow. Ninja Steel and whatever they end up calling the Zyuohger adaptation in a few years will also have male Yellows (while still having two girls, no less!). Yes, it’s not as common as female Yellow, but Yellow has cmmonly been a female color in sentai since the 1980s as well (need I mention the controversial reason why there was no Yellow in Kyoryuger?). And even if you’re talking about the genderswapping from the sentai, only MMPR, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, and Wild Force did that. The rest were already female in the sentai or were kept as male. Given how many seasons there are of PR overall, that argument simply doesn’t hold water.
The reboot!Rita thing...as things stand right now, I’d be perfectly okay with her costumes if this was an all-new character or a reinterpretation of another existing female PR villain. But nothing about them currently give me the vibe of “evil sorceress” beyond the staff (which, it should be noted, I absolutely love despite the costumes). This does not make me some “purist” who’s angry it doesn’t look like the TV show; it’s simply a matter of personal preference because we have no context to work from. One can only glean so much from preliminary photos and amateur videos taken while they’re still filming, after all. My opinion could change to a more favorable one once we can see a proper trailer or clips with all the effects and, you know, context.
tl;dr: Fandom, stop acting like a bunch of ignorant fools and do your damn research before spouting your mouths off.
