I need to reread Oracle: Battle for the Cowl again. It’s only 3 issues and there’s several wheelchair shots to look at.
High-back, firmly upright, way back axle tube, swing away front frame with like 70 degree angle, and don’t forget the push handles.
Five points for looking like an actual wheelchair, just not one that I’d like to independently navigate an international airport in. 5/10
EDIT: Wait, I have more.
This is from Oracle: The Cure, a 3-issue set as part of the Battle for the Cowl sequence/event (some comic nerd please tell me the correct term for that). Credits Kevin Vanhook | Julian Lopez | Fernando Pasarian | BIT

I wasn't going to include the nude shot, but it distinctly shows that her front frame is swing-away. Nifty setup wiht bolting a computer case to the back of the wheelchair. If we're accepting that it's possible, it might be a good excuse for having her wheels attach flush with her back canes. I guess. If you stuck something as heavy as a computer on the back of my chair, I'd be fighting to keep my casters on the ground. This iteration of Babs' chair distinctly has Absolutely No Camber Whatsoever. Straight wheels, straight as I pretended to be in high school levels of straight. No arm rests in this version, just some side guards. Apparently pretty rigid side guards if you're up to using them for transfers like that. Also points! We have a wheel lock visible! Looks like it's high-mount push-to-lock. You'll notice a trend here that she has no wheel locks about 99% of the time. Nothing slows our girl down even when she'd probably benefit from it! Another thing that drives me nuts is that apparently she just generally keeps the back of her chair up at like the bottom of her neck. Guess she doesn't even need to reach behind her and pick something up. To each their own.
Anyway, she DOES have visible push rims in these issues, so I can't deduct a point for that.
5 points for it definitely being a real-looking wheelchair that I've seen real humans use. Zero points for it being a wheelchair that I'd pick for a full-time wheelchair user with paralysis who lives alone, independently navigates an international airport and the kind of city where someone'd try to mug her, and who sometimes just beats people up with sticks becuse she can.
5/10, still, but I've put more research into it this time

AS WE KNOW IT - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Buffalo 8
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: “Set in Los Angeles in the late 1990s, struggling writer James Bishop grapples with the emotional shrapnel of a recent breakup with his longtime girlfriend, Emily. As James holds up in his Hollywood Hills home with writer's block, his eccentric best friend Bruce shows up with bad news. The city has plunged into chaos by an unusual zombie outbreak, courtesy of tainted soy milk, wreaking havoc on James' semi-charmed kinda life. With the streets of Los Angeles swarming with the undead, James, Bruce, and Emily come together to barricade themselves in the house while reconciling their personal struggles. And occasionally, letting in the only food delivery service still operating, Abracadabra.” -Press Release
REVIEW: Josh Monkarsh’s film feels like a play as James’ home is the main setting and much of the story unfolds in the living room, kitchen and bedroom. The limited locations add to the feel of a 90’s sitcom, from “Seinfeld,” to “Friends” and the late 90’s “Freaks & Geeks.” Clearly these characters are in their mid to late 20’s but their lack of maturity make them seem much younger.
Monkarsh, DePaolo and Francis’s script is jam packed with 90’s references and bits and gags that rely on period as well. One of the jokes between James and Bruce is their love of “Waterworld,” which they watch on a laserdisc (yes, I still have a player and a collection of laserdiscs). It is clearly a love letter to that period of time when life was simpler and complicated in different ways before the advent of the smartphone, tablets and laptops. The absurdity of the zombie plague being caused by tainted soy milk takes a back seat to the relationship between the three characters, and Rory, the delivery person who happens to be an old acquaintance of Bruce, makes for a nice distraction.
The film has a rather dry pacing, and even Bruce’s chaotic moments come at a slower pace. There is an overall malaise that you would expect from the zombies. Somehow it all works and becomes engaging. Each actor brings elements to their performances that make for likable and sympathetic characters, even Bruce. It’s a great ensemble cast, but I have to say actor Danny Mondello creates this memorable character that could have easily been cliched but comes off fresh and memorable, like an early Joe Pesci performance. Actor Chris Parnell received a nice amount of screen time, with an additional scene during the credits, and it would have been nice to see a bit more of Pam Grier.
I enjoyed the cinematography, costumes and production designs that captured the period. The editing sustained my viewing engagement. The zombie make up and designs are simple and effective, as well as the special effects, with nothing too gorey. I liked Michl Britsch’s score. It enhanced the comedic tones of the film and added slightly more energy to the film.
AS WE KNOW IT is a relationship comedy set against the backdrop of a zombie outbreak taking place in Los Angeles. The film is kind of a 90’s American slacker reworking of “Shaun of the Dead,” with a tone similar to Jim Jarmusch’s “The Dead Don't Die,” but without some of the film’s more bizarre moments. A fun and mildly funny trip down memory lane with some likable characters who take center stage over the zombies. Monkarsh does a nice job with the material but given his film credits to date I’m not sure when and if will see Monkarsh venturing into the horror genre again soon.

Evita: The Life & Work Of Eva Peron GN -  Alberto Breccia
In a sequel to their spellbinding, experimental biography of Che Guevara, Hector Germán Oesterheld and the Breccias chronicle the eventful life of Eva Perón. Published in 1970, Evita: The Life and Work of Eva Perón was daringly intended to be the follow-up to the artists' successful and controversial 1969 graphic biography Life of Che. Hector Germán Oesterheld plotted the book and the father and son team of Alberto and Enrique Breccia drew the comic - but the text was "sanitized" before its publication. In 2001, a restored version of Evita featuring Oesterheld's original, uncensored script wasfinally published in Spanish; it is translated in English here for the first time. In just 72 boldly penned chiaroscuro pages, this graphic biography paints a complex portrait of a pivotal Argentine figure who was at once beloved and reviled by her people.
Born in rural Argentina to extreme poverty, she moved to Buenos Aires where she met and married Colonel Perón, who would become president of Argentina. As First Lady, affectionately nicknamed Evita, she devoted herself to social welfare and worker's rights, campaigned for women's suffrage, and became known as "The Spiritual Leader of the Nation." While she has been viewed as an international icon, inspiring celebratory works such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1976Broadway Evita, this biography by her countrymen takes a far more searing and critical approach, chronicling the noble causes she fought for as well as the militarism and oppression of the Perónist regime.

Tumblr media
Hidden Systems GN -  Dan Nott
This nonfiction science graphic novel takes readers on a journey from how the most essential systems were developed to how they are implemented in our world today and how they will be used in the future. What was the first message sent over the internet? How much water does a single person use every day? How was the electric light invented? For every utility we use each day, there's a hidden history, a story of intrigue, drama, humor, and inequity. This graphic novel provides a guided tour through the science of the past and reveals how the decisions people made while inventing and constructing early technology still affect the way people use it today.
Tumblr media
Hoops GN -  Matthew Tavares
A work of fiction inspired by a true story, Matt Tavares's debut graphic novel dramatizes the historic struggle for gender equality in high school sports. It is 1975 in Indiana, and the Wilkins Regional High School girls' basketball team is in their rookie season. Despite being undefeated, they practice at night in the elementary school and play to empty bleachers. Unlike the boys' team, the Lady Bears have no buses to deliver them to away games and no uniforms, much less a laundry service. They make their own uniforms out of T-shirts and electrical tape. And with help from a committed female coach, they push through to improbable victory after improbable victory. Illustrated in full color, this story about the ongoing battle of women striving for equality in sports rings with honesty, bravery, and heart.
Tumblr media
House On Fire TP -  Matt Battaglia
Is she sick, or is it the world itself? House on Fire, the debut graphic novel by writer/artist Matt Battaglia, teases out the difference in a personal-political cruise through a fallen world, where fear is rational and obedience your only refuge. Battaglia depicts the near-future landscape of House on Fire with wild two-color brushwork reminiscent of the great Paul Pope, and a minimalist writing style that evokes and questions rather than lectures.
Tumblr media
Kitaro: Japan’s Classic Manga Collection GN -  Shigeru Mizuki
Kitaro seems just like any other boy. Of course, he isn't-what with his one eye and jet-powered geta sandals, and the fact that he can shape-shift like a chameleon. It's all a part of being a 350-year-old yokai, a Japanese spirit monster. Against a backdrop of photorealistic landscapes, Kitaro and his otherworldly cartoon friends plunge into the depths of the Pacific Ocean and forge the oft-unseen wilds of Japan's countryside. The twelve stories in this special collection include more works published in the golden age of GeGeGe no Kitaro between 1967 and 1969.
Tumblr media
Link & Hud: Heroes By A Hair GN -  Jarrett Pumphrey & Jerome Pumphrey
Lincoln and Hudson Dupré are brothers with what grown-ups call "active imaginations." Link and Hud hunt for yetis in the Himalayas and battle orcs on epic quests. Unfortunately, their imaginary adventures wreak havoc in their real world. Dr. and Mrs. Dupré have tried every babysitter in the neighborhood and are at their wits' end. Enter Ms. Joyce. Strict and old-fashioned, she proves to be a formidable adversary. The boys don't like her or her rules and decide she's got to go. Through a series of escalating events-told as high-action comic panel sequences-the brothers conspire to undermine Ms. Joyce and get her fired. When they go so big that even Ms. Joyce can't fix it, suddenly she's out. Finally, success! Or is it?

Bloodshot (2020)
My rating: 5/10
I mean, it's a more interesting take on the whole "robocop" concept than the Robocop remake, but that still doesn't make it good - I had to check that neither Michael Bay nor Zack Snyder were involved with this, because the whole "faintly jingoistic, overly macho action movie based on a bad grimdark comic book" thing seems very much like their thing, and the movie even starts with some Bay-esque piss-o-vision. Although, they do try to lampshade all that by making it sound like the butt monkey tech guy is responsible for it, which is kind of cute I guess.
Overall this is fine, though unremarkable. Could think of far worse ways of wasting a few hours.
