WHERE CAN AMERICANS TRAVEL WITH VACCINE?
https://wherecanamericanstravelnow.com/where-can-americans-travel-with-vaccine/
For this year 2021, American passport holders have seen an ever changing list of international travel options as the globe adapted first to vaccines and then now to the Delta Variants of the covid 19 virus.
Where can Americans travel with vaccine? As of the end of September, the total number of U.S. cases is around the 42.3 million mark, since the first coronavirus case in the country. Some countries are overwhelmed by corona cases, as well as some American states.
It is up to you to decide whether if traveling internationally is a good idea. The health risks are evident if you have not received the full dose of the covid 19 vaccine. Your destination might change its rules at any time. You may be forced to follow strict rules and regulations put in place by the country to fight the virus- wearing masks, social distancing, sanitizing, and curfews. And violations could lead to heftier fines and even jail.
Where can Americans travel with vaccine? If you want some expert advice before finalizing your decision, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and US Department provides detailed, updated, and accurate covid 19 risk assessments by nation. Both sites rate most countries open to American travelers at level 4. Remember that all flying passengers age two and older must show proof of viral covid 19 negative results test taken three days before departure to enter the U.S.

Bulgaria: current rules set by the governments’ nation make direct visits difficult.
Ethiopia: This cultural country remains in the removed nations because of the ongoing warfare.

LANGUAGES OF THE WORLD
Tumblr media
This map obviously doesn’t show the primary language of a nation (though it does sometimes). It shows the language you need to speak to get by. Obviously, speaking English will set you ahead leaps and bounds — it is the tourist lingua franca — but your regular everyman on the street probably won’t speak it. So here are the top 11 languages for travel that should get you by in about 90% of the world.
1. English, duh. The lingua franca for tourism, the US, Canada, parts of Europe, Africa, Asia, and nearly every islander nation ever.
2. French. French is spoken most commonly in Africa and Island nations, but  some MENA and SE Asian nations speak enough French that you’ll get by there, too.
3. Spanish. Spanish is primarily used in Hispanic America and is 100% necessary if you plan to travel “south of the boarder.” Also is intelligible by Italians, somewhat by Portuguese, and spoken by some Andorrans.
4. Arabic. Arabic is spread throughout the Middle East and North Africa, plus it’s the language of the second-largest religion in the world. Just check the dialect before you start learning!
5. Russian. Despite the USSR ending almost 30 years ago, many Former Soviet Bloc countries still speak Russian as well as their native/official language.
6. German. Germany is expanding, and people from Central Europe are starting to prioritize learning German over learning English to get jobs in Germany.
7. Mandarin. Mandarin is only good in a few countries — China, Taiwan, and Singapore — at the moment, but China’s a big fricken country and when you get outside the big cities, finding English-speakers is fricken hard. Additionally, Mandarin can help you in SE Asian, to some extent.
8. Portugues. Necessary for Brazil, Africa, and Macau. Portuguese actually can supplement French-speaking and English-speaking Africa in certain areas and is a giant leg up to getting African tourist visas. Plus, Portuguese can help in Japan.
9. Malay. Your ticket to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.
10. Thai. Only official in Thailand, but parts of Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia will speak it, too.
11. Persian. Call it Farsi, Dari, or Tajiki, Persian is the language for the Near-East.
Other travel languages that might be helpful:
Hindu. Hindu is spoken in India, but knowing Hindu can get you by if you’re visiting Bangladesh (which English will not), and, if you understand Arabic, too, will set you for any big city in Pakistan, since Urdu and Hindu are the same language, just with different scripts and different loanword origins.
Serbo-Croatian. Spoken throughout the Balkans in different dialects, the Serbians, Croatians, Bosnians, and Montenegrins all think they speak different languages and will make fun of you for using the wrong dialect. But they’ll be able to understand you.
Cantonese. The go-to for Southeast China, and most expat Chinese communities. It’s harder than Mandarin, and it won’t take you very far inside China proper, but it’s a good go-to if you’re traveling the Orient.
Dutch. The Netherlands, Surinam, and the ABC Islands all use Dutch first. Touristy areas will speak English, but touristy areas are for tourists, not adventurers.
Quenchua. Native languages are alive and well in South America, and more remote places in the Andean range speak Quenchua instead of Spanish. Helpful in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina.
Hausa. If you plan to go off the beaten path in West Africa, Hausa’s full of intelligible dialects that will take you from the Ivory Coast to Sudan. Not really necessary if you speak English, French, and Arabic, but if you don’t plan on traveling the Middle East or the Islands, cut down on your language-learning and just go with this one.
Swahili. English will get you by in East Africa, but Swahili will get you by so much better. You’ll have fewer scams, cheaper costs, and better experiences in Kenya, Tanzania, and the Congo.
Languages I don’t recommend learning for international travel:
Italian. Italians understand Spanish, but not all Spanish-speakers will understand Italian.
Hebrew. Just knowing English will get you by, but with Arabic and/or Russian there, too, you’ll be set.
Japanese. Regardless of big cities or more rural areas, English is fairly common. Most signs in big cities have English writing, and people are friendly and willing to help, even you don’t speak the language.

UAE blocking visas, says travel agents in Africa, ME
Ban on visitors unexplained
DUBAI, Nov 30, (AP): Travel agencies in countries across the Middle East and Africa say the United Arab Emirates has temporarily halted issuing new visas to their citizens, a sofar unexplained ban on visitors amid both the coronavirus pandemic and the UAE's normalization deal with Israel. Confusion over the UAE visa ban targeting 11 Muslim-majority nations, in addition to Lebanon and Kenya, swirled after a leaked document from Dubai's state-owned airport free zone surfaced this week, declaring restrictions against a range of nationalities.
Emirati authorities have not acknowledged the suspension that comes as the UAE welcomes tourists for the first time in history, the coronavirus pandemic surges across the region and those searching for work in the federation of seven sheikhdoms increasingly overstay their tourist visas amid a cascade of business shutdowns and lay-offs.
Citing an order from the country's immigration authorities, the note to companies operating in Dubai's airport free zone announced a pause in issuing all new employment, long and short term visit visas “until further notice” from countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Iraq and Tunisia, without offering a reason.
Those already holding visas would not be affected, it said. The revelation has gripped social media feeds and news outlets worldwide, underscoring the UAE's global status as magnet for expat workers and visitors who outnumber locals nearly nine to one in the country.
When asked by The Associated Press about the order, the country's immigration department said it's “not aware of any formal list of nationalities requiring visa suspension.” Dubai's airport free zone confirmed the veracity of the document to the AP and said it was waiting for further clarification from officials.
Meanwhile, across the region, agencies and authorities say their citizens are forbidden from entering the UAE. Travel agents in Pakistan said the UAE has barred single men under the age of 50 from the country, although those traveling with family can still obtain visas. Last week, Pakistan's foreign office said it had “learnedt that the UAE has temporarily suspended the issuance of new visit visas” in a move “believed to be related to the second wave of COVID-19.” Bestways Travel company south of Islamabad was skeptical. “With such specific age and gender limits, obviously this has nothing to do with the coronavirus,” agent Jamchit Agha said. He said it was more likely tied to security concerns, or fears about young men overstaying visas to find jobs in Dubai, the region's financial hub. Dubai relies on millions of lowpaid expat workers from Southeast Asia.
Several travel companies across Afghanistan also claimed the UAE had stopped issuing visas to citizens, without offering any explanation. In Kenya, speculation has spread that the country landed on the UAE's blacklist over a spate of fake certificates showing negative results on coronavirus tests used to travel to the UAE, resulting in 21 arrests Thursday.
Four travel agencies in the capital Nairobi said they were seeking clarification from Emirati authorities after dozens of tourist visas were rejected. Travel Shore Africa, one of the agencies, said 40 of its clients bound for Dubai had been blocked from boarding their flight last-minute on Thursday. Two travel agents in Lebanon, a country that has sent legions of skilled workers to the UAE as its own economy plunged, confirmed visa applications were currently on hold except for those with a foreign passport or residency in a third country.

As British Citizen , Do I Need Visa India ?
Tumblr media
s British Citizen , Do I Need Visa India ?
Entry requirements
The information on this page covers the most common types of travel and reflects the UK government’s understanding of the rules currently in place. Unless otherwise stated, this information is for travellers using a full ‘British Citizen’ passport.
The authorities in the country or territory you’re travelling to are responsible for setting and enforcing the rules for entry. If you’re unclear about any aspect of the entry requirements, or you need further reassurance, you’ll need to contact the embassy, high commission or consulate of the country or territory to which you’re travelling.
You should also consider checking with your transport provider or travel company to make sure your passport and other travel documents meet their requirements.
Visas
You’ll need to get a visa before travelling to India. You can find further information about how to apply on the Indian High Commission website.
Make sure you get the right visa for your travel and that it’s valid for the purpose and duration of your stay. If you enter India on the wrong visa, you could be detained on arrival and you may be deported and blacklisted, meaning that you can’t enter India again. Make sure you meet entry requirements. Tourist visas can’t be extended while in India.
You should be aware that there have been changes made by the Indian Government, on visa formalities for foreigners who are hospitalised in India, when travelling on a short-term tourist visa. If you or someone you are travelling with is travelling on a tourist visa and is hospitalised, we would advise you to immediately get in touch with the local Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) to check if visa conversion is required.
From 1 April 2017, the length of stay on an e-visa has been increased from 30 days to 60 days with double entry on tourist and business e-visa and triple entry on medical e-visas. This means you can stay for or re-enter within 60 days of the date of your first entry into India on your e-visa. However, you must leave the country before your visa expires, irrespective of when or how many times you enter. When you arrive at the airport, your passport will be stamped and an expiry date for your e-visa will be handwritten by an Immigration Officer. Please be aware that 60 days is not automatically equal to two calendar months. Check the date that is written on your passport and make sure you leave the country before your visa expires.
Holders of passports endorsed ‘British citizen’ who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for a double entry e-Tourist Visa (e-TV) to enter India at certain designated airports. You can find more information about the eligibility criteria on the government of India’s e-Tourist Visa website. Beware of fake websites offering the e-TV service.
You should check carefully whether or not you’re eligible for an e-TV before you apply. British subject, British protected person, British overseas citizen, British national (overseas) and British overseas territories citizen passport holders aren’t eligible to apply for an e-TV.
India’s Bureau of Immigration has announced that with immediate effect, foreign nationals who arrive at an Indian port holding non-machine readable passports will be denied entry. Carriers who transport foreign passengers holding non-machine readable passports may be subject to a fine.
To transit through India you will need a transit visa. You can find more information on the Indian Immigration Bureau website.
The previous rule of no re-entry on the same visa for 2 months after leaving India no longer applies to foreign nationals (including British) coming to India except in case of nationals of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, Bangladesh, foreigners of Pakistan and Bangladesh origins and stateless persons. e-Tourist Visas can now be used for double entry into India.
Foreign nationals arriving in India on long term multiple entry visas must register with the nearest Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival.
If you overstay your visa you must report in person to the FRRO or Superintendent of Police you registered with to get permission to exit the country. You will be fined and may be prosecuted or detained and later deported. If you have overstayed your visa but did not need to register you must report to the nearest FRRO or Senior Superintendent of Police. See the Indian Immigration Bureau website for more information.
Applicants of Pakistani origin
All applicants of Pakistani origin who hold dual British-Pakistan nationality must apply for an Indian visa on their Pakistan passport. Those who have either renounced their Pakistani nationality or cancelled their Pakistani passport would need to submit documentary proof of this.
Processing time for visa applications received from persons of Pakistani origin will be 7-8 weeks or more.
Processing time for applications from those holding dual British-Pakistan nationality will be substantially longer.
For further details see the Indian High Commission website.
Passport validity
Your passport must be machine readable, with 2 blank pages for your visa and valid for a minimum of 180 days at the time of your visa application. However, the guidelines regarding passport validity on arrival in India are unclear. To avoid possible problems at immigration, make sure your passport is valid for a minimum of 180 days at the time of entry into India.
Airport tax
User Development Fees (UDF) apply at many airports. The fees are around Rs.1,000 per international passenger and Rs.150 to 260 per domestic passenger. This should already be included in the cost of airline tickets. If for any reason the fee is not included in your ticket it will be collected at the airport check-in counter in Indian rupees.
Polio vaccination
If you travel to India from Pakistan, Israel, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Afghanistan or Somalia you may be required to hold a valid polio vaccination certificate. Contact your nearest Indian Embassy or High Commission for further information.
Yellow fever certificate requirements
Check whether you need a yellow fever certificate by visiting the National Travel Health Network and Centre’s TravelHealthPro website.
Accommodation and C-Forms
Make sure you stay in accommodation that is licensed with the Indian authorities. Ask your accommodation provider whether they’re registered to file ‘C-Forms’ with the Foreigners’ Registration Office (FRO). You’re strongly advised to use accommodation that is registered with the FRO.
UK Emergency Travel Documents
UK ETDs are valid for entry to or exit from India with the relevant Indian visa. They are also valid for airside transit. However, a holder of an ETD will not be able to both enter and exit India using the same ETD. You should be aware that you will have to apply to the local authorities for an exit permit if you’re leaving India on a passport or ETD that is different to the one on which you entered. This must be done online, and you should factor this into your timeframe to leave India. For further information visit the FRRO website.
Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders
In March 2016, the Government of India announced that OCI card holders will no longer need a visa to enter India. The ‘U’ visa sticker that was placed in the foreign passport of OCI card holders has been discontinued immediate effect and you’ll no longer need to show this sticker to the immigration authorities when you enter and leave India. You’ll only need to present a valid passport and your OCI card. For more information, visit the website of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs.

Chris Hemsworth shows how much he really loves his personal trainer Chris Hemsworth works hard for his rig. The man who plays Thor has often shared selfies and videos from inside the gym as he works out. To be fair, the 34-year-old Avengers star – who shares three children with wife Elsa Pataky – might be the only dude who can show off in the gym and not elicit an eye roll from the rest of the world. Because he’s a legend. But the legend isn’t averse to making sure we all know the man behind the body, as he gave his trainer, Luke Zocchi, one heck of a surprise on Monday. Chris Hemsworth and his trainer are bromance goals (Picture: Instagram) Taking to his Instagram Stories, the Hollywood heavyweight is seen running towards his buddy Luke in a London restaurant with his arms outstretched, as a group sings happy birthday to the trainer. Not just running up to him, though, Chris grasps him in a big bear hug and plants a kiss on his cheek as he attempts to pick him up and get him standing on his feet. Chris might be bigger than Luke, but the trainer engages his probably superhumanly powerful core and remains in his seat. The Thor star captioned the clip: ‘Happy birthday “Zoco” you little legend!’ It’s bromance at its best. The trainer is said to be a school friend of Chris’ who has been on hand to help the actor shape up for his past 10 roles – including that of Thor. Chris has been in London as he films Men In Black and if pictures from the set say anything, it seems the actor came straight from the set to the restaurant. Over the weekend Chris was seen on the Men In Black reboot outside St Paul’s Cathedral, London. Surrounded by rubble, the Australian star was shooting an intense-looking car crash scene near the 350-year-old church Another picture shows a super-flashy sports car (black, of course) sitting patiently on the road, ready to shoot off to a secret underground location. It’s the not the first time the MIB crew have been spotted making movies in the capital. They were first noticed back in July when Hemsworth was snapped in (you guessed it) a black suit. More: Chris Hemsworth The as-yet-untitled Men In Black reboot is due to hit cinemas next year and boasts F. Gary Gray (The Fate Of The Furious, Friday) on director duties. Traveling to Africa has been one of my long-term dreams come true. For last 3 years or so, I was researching on the same, checking for safari destination, costs and considering how to plan my African safari. But before I talk about this once in a lifetime East African safari adventure, let me start with some insights on Africa.
  Myths & Misconceptions about Africa
Africa is a country
Whenever I have spoken to people about Kenya Tanzania, most of the times people have used the word south Africa in return. In India Africa means south Africa for many. Let me state here, South Africa is one of the nations/countries that is part of Africa. Africa is a continent and countries like Kenya Tanzania are East African nations of Africa.
Africa is dangerous, people are violent, not a safe place to be
When we talk about Africa, we are talking about a huge continent. Not all countries are at war and not all places are unsafe. With stories on civil wars, child soldiers, pirates, and revolutions, it’s no wonder that people fear to go to Africa. However, there is a different side to it. The way we treat Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India differently even though they all come under Asia, similarly all African nations can’t be treated in the same way.
Mauritius, Botswana, Ghana, Senegal, Madagascar, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, and Namibia are some of the most peaceful nations within Africa. Staying safe is a matter of common sense and please read travel warnings before concluding anything about Africa. For example, It is absolutely safe to go to safari destinations in Africa.
Africa is the origin of many diseases and is ridden with diseases
Diseases have taken millions of lives each year in Africa due to lack of childhood immunization and lack of basic healthcare. Many diseases in-fact originated from South America, Europe, and Asia but the outbreak in Africa has been impactful only because of lack of basic healthcare.
However, there has been a huge change since last decade. Most deadly diseases that plagued African nations once are completely preventable by vaccinations and simple hygiene today.
For travelers from the west, even the more exotic diseases of Africa namely, yellow fever, typhoid etc can be avoided simply by vaccination. And as far as Malaria is concerned, it can be avoided using prophylactics, sprays and body creams. For HIV/Aids
Its always hot in Africa
Africa is not exclusively made of desert and Savannahs. There are high altitude mountains, rainforests and cool coastal peninsulas. Infact during winters, temperatures in sub Saharan regions plunge below freezing. Many African nations also record snow. Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains see enough snow to support a ski resort near Marrakesh.
We found Nairobi in May to have similar climate as Bangalore. While on roads in Kenya, there were a couple of stretches which made us feel as if we were in Europe.
All African countries are poor and need aid to develop
Africa is often painted with a sweeping stroke of doom and gloom. Bad news and sad stories sell more.  There are many pre- conceived notions. Seychelles, Mauritius, Botswana, Namibia, Egypt and South Africa are some of the countries with a good standard of living and respectable GDP. Africa has four of the ten fastest growing economies in the world
Africa is cheap
Its not really cheap to travel in Africa. The cost of transport accommodation etc is almost at par with other places in other continents. Infact, safari destinations in Africa are a bit on a higher side because the season is limited to a few months and maintaining such properties in the middle of nowhere locations is a task in itself.
There is nothing to see apart from animals
That’s not true. We all know one of the oldest civilizations that developed around the Nile, the Egyptian civilization is from the same continent. Egypt has so much history, Nile river and Pyramids. Mauritius and Seychelles Zanzibar in Tanzania on the other hand are well known beach destinations.
For desert lovers, Namibia is the place to be, South Africa is one of the adventure capitals of the world and Marrakesh in Africa is well known cultural delight.
Food could be a big issue for travellers from the west
I never knew till my visit to east Africa that they have same rice, Lentils and chapati. Indian chapati is the same chapati in Swahili too. You do get the same tea, coffee and juices to drink. The same breads, eggs, pancakes and fruits to eat for breakfast and similar dishes for lunch and dinner. In East Africa, most good hotel chains are run by Indians so don’t worry, you will even find biryani, papad and pickle there.

Where to go for best wildlife experience in Africa
Africa’s top 5 classic safari destinations along with most famous parks are
Kenya – Masai Mara
Tanzania – Serengeti
Botswana (one of the most expensive safari destinations)– Chobe National Park
South Africa – Kruger
Namibia- Etosha National park
However, Kenya Tanzania are literally the mecca of wildlife viewing. The annual migration of two million wildebeests plus hundreds of thousands of gazelles and zebras – followed by their predators in search of pasture and water – is one of the most impressive nature spectacles in the world which takes place between these two adjacent countries, Kenya and Tanzania. The animals make a 2000-kilometre trek between the Serengeti ecosystem from Tanzania to Kenya and then back.
National parks in East Africa – East Africa tour
The national parks fall primarily under the following countries
Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda
Kenya : Masai Mara National Park, one of the most popular across the world is in Kenya and one can see Kenya’s most abundant wildlife here. Masai Mara in Savanah in a part of the vast Greater Serengeti, where massive herds of animals make an annual migration across the plains. Apart from Mara Kenya does have many other good quality parks with abundant wildlife including Samburu, Tsavo, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru
Tanzania: Serengeti National Park is almost 5 times Masai Mara in size and houses part of the Serengeti National Park — the best park to see great herds of wildlife. Besides, one of our most favorite places in Tanzania is Ngorongoro conservation area or Ngorongoro crater adjacent to Serengeti. Over 30,000 animals live in the crater; it has the densest lion population in the world.
Mount Kilimanjaro national park, Tarangire National Park, lake manyara are noteworthy sites too in Tanzania.
Uganda: If you are interested in primates, you should choose Uganda. It offers the opportunity to get a close look at Chimpanzees, Gorillas, and others in their natural habitats.
When to go for Africa safari
The best time to travel to Africa depends on your specific destination. Overall, it’s best (but most expensive) to travel in the dry season, which corresponds with the region’s winter. For east African nations, Kenya and Tanzania, the best time is, of course, the migration time which is from July to September.
  Visas and vaccinations for Africa
Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa offer Visa on arrival for Indians. The only thing you need is the passport and itinerary. Visa cost per person is approx. $50 per person for both the countries.
Yellow fever vaccination is a must for East African and Southern African nations. You need to carry the yellow card when you travel to these destinations. At the time of your exit from the country, this will be checked.
  African Safari- How to book
There are three options
All inclusive safari packages in Africa offered by tour operators– These are guided, custom made and tailor-made packages for families and groups inclusive of food, tours, excursions, and accommodation. The vehicle is either a minivan or 4 by 4 land cruiser for road trips. And you also have flying safaris, you can directly fly into some of the parks instead of driving.
Accommodation can vary from ultra-luxury suits/stylish tents to budget options/eco-lodges depending on the budget. You can also opt for mid-range options or a combination of all. This is the best way to travel for families with kids as well as for corporate groups.
There are many East Africa tour operators and online websites offering Safari tours in Africa. Important thing is to select a trusted safari tour operator in Africa to avoid any kind of scam. Travel Jaunts also offers  African safari tour packages in Kenya and Tanzania with our partners in Africa who have a very high reputation and reviews. We have traveled with them and checked each and every facility that we offer.
Overland or Mobile Safaris– One typically stays in budget accommodations and travels in groups with other travellers. These are the cheapest type of organized tour safaris. These are usually participatory, you may be expected to pitch in with chores such as cooking meals or setting up camp. Intrepid travel and Acasia Africa are some of the operators in this category. Makes sense for solo travellers who can stay happily in budget places with basic facilities.
Self drive– For the most adventurous ones , you do have the option of self drive safari in Africa though it is only limited to public parks. You can opt foremost in expensive stay options ala carte meals and  tour the wild on your own without any guide.
East Africa safari tour- our journey
I could have done Kenya long back but I was keen on doing Kenya along with Tanzania. Tanzania is a little more expensive destination than Kenya. If beach destinations interest you than you can also club your Tanzania safari with Zanzibar
With limited time at hand, we spent almost 15 days exclusively on Kenya Tanzania Safaris exploring various national parks. We booked our flights till Nairobi and then it was a complete road trip. You do have an option of flying safaris for those who can’t sit in the vehicles for long but for us, the whole tour was pretty comfortable and enjoyable. Driving through the parks is much more scenic and adventurous than flying into the park. The route that we followed was
Nairobi- Samburu- Nakuru-Masai Mara-Serengeti-Ngorongoro-Lake Manyara lake-Amboseli- Nairobi
Please click on the each of the national park above to read in details. Here are some memories of our East Africa tour.
  Masai Mara
Inside the 4X4 land cruiser
Ready for the game drive
Picnic in Mara with animals around
Greenery unlimited
Breakfast by the Mara river

East Africa Safari Tour– Kenya Tanzania Traveling to Africa has been one of my long-term dreams come true. For last 3 years or so, I was researching on the same, checking for safari destination, costs and considering how to plan my African safari.

Breaking Travel News investigates: A new era for Oman Air | Focus
A new day is about to dawn for Oman Air.
On March 20th a new terminal will open at Muscat International Airport, transforming operations for the carrier and offering a dramatic boost to the domestic tourism sector.
The opening of the new $1.8 billion facility will be akin to the overnight opening of a new airport.
The existing terminal will cease operations at midnight, with the carrier resuming its work the next day in the new state-of-the art complex on the other side of the airfield.
Featuring nearly one hundred check-in counters, ten baggage belts, 40 gates, and 29 aircraft stands with jet-bridges, as well as a new control tower, it will increase capacity significantly at what has, until now, been an outdated facility.
Oman Air flights currently touching down in Muscat are forced to settled in remote parking spots, leaving passengers with bus transfers to the terminal taking upward of 20 minutes.
No more.
The new 580,000sqm terminal will be able to welcome 12 million passengers annually, with plans to extend the airport itself to accommodate as many as 50 million passengers in the coming years.
Away from the terminals, the existing runways at Muscat International have also both been extended to four kilometres in length, allowing them to accommodate everything up to the Airbus A380.
Oman Air will use the infrastructure upgrade as an opportunity to further grow its transit traffic – which currently accounts for around 60 per cent of passengers.
The airline currently operates direct flights from Muscat to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Madina, and Kuwait, in the Gulf region, as well as Cairo, Amman, Tehran, Mashhad, Najaf, Zanzibar and Dar Es Salaam within the wider Middle East and Africa regions.
In addition, Oman Air flies to eleven destinations in India – including Goa, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Delhi, Lucknow, Bangalore, Kozhikode and Jaipur.
Also in Asia, the carrier serves Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan; Kathmandu in Nepal; and Colombo in Sri Lanka, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Jakarta, and launched Guangzhou in China in December 2016.
Its European network features London, Milan, Munich, Frankfurt, Paris and Zurich, while the most recent additions are Nairobi in Kenya and Manchester in the UK.
With hubs such as Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Dubai, home to Etihad, Qatar Airways, and Emirates, respectively, close by, it might be imagined Oman Air would struggle to build a transit hub.
However, political strife within the GCC has jeopardised connections across the region, leaving a relatively neutral Oman a chance to build its position in the aviation sector.
In future, Oman Air seeks to grow its role in connecting Europe and Asia – building its profile in the east to rival its current position in the west and Indian subcontinent.
Currently Oman Air’s fleet consists of six Boeing 787 Dreamliners, six Airbus 330-300s, four Airbus 330-200s, five Boeing 737-900s, 22 Boeing 737-800, and four Embraer 175s.
By 2023 the carrier hopes to operate around 70 planes.
Key among them will be the new Boeing 737 MAX, the first of which was delivered earlier this month.
Acting Oman Air chief executive Abdulaziz Al-Raisi, explains: “This is a very exciting day for us as we take delivery of the first of our 30 Boeing MAX aircraft on order.
“By the end of 2018 we will receive a total of five aircraft into our fleet.
“They will serve both domestic and short to medium international sectors.”
Oman Air is expected to launch three new routes this year, to Casablanca in Morocco in June, followed by Istanbul in July, and Russian capital Moscow in October.
The carrier is also assessing the possibilities of re-launching Beirut, Maldives, and Singapore in the coming months.
In June, Oman Air will also receive the first of three further 787-9 Dreamliners the carrier has on order, two of which will have a new first-class product.
The new planes, from both Boeing and Airbus, will facilitate the growing international network.
Since taking over as acting chief executive in October last year, Al-Raisi has focused on bringing down operational costs without shrinking the service offering or slowing network growth.
This has been necessary as the carrier continues to bleed red ink.
In its most recent financial report Oman Air revealed it passenger numbers increase to 7.7 million annually, but losses widened by 50 per cent to RO130 million (£240 million).
With the government seeking to gradually withdraw support from the carrier, even as it expands, the success of the new terminal is vital for the future of Oman Air.
The airline is, however, set to benefit from a renewed focus on tourism from the national government.
At present the sector remains relatively small, especially compared to booming markets in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, but that could be about to change.
In early 2016 Oman unveiled a new National Tourism Strategy, which includes an aim to double the number of international tourist arrivals to the country by 2020.
This would take the figure to around five million international guests annually, the majority of whom would arrive with Oman Air.
The initiative calls for the development of 14 tourism clusters, which are hoped to attract more tourists and encourage longer visits.
Sites that have been earmarked for development include areas of natural interest in the country’s mountains and deserts, as well as existing tourist spots, such as the Musandam Peninsula in the north; the Frankincense trail in Salalah; and old cultural areas throughout the capital, Muscat.
Early steps have been taken, with the opening of several new world class resorts.
However, there are only still a handful of five-star properties in the country, with more work to be done in order to grow the sector.
The ultimate goal is to transform Oman from a seasonal, high-end destination to one that appeals to a variety of travellers throughout the year.
Regional tourism has also proved a boon for Oman.
During the summer months, the tail end of the Indian monsoon brings rains known as the ‘Khareef’.
Transforming the mountains around Salalah into a verdant landscape, the season is a significant draw for travellers, who come to escape the stifling heat elsewhere in the region.
The total number of visitors over the period, which in 2016 took place between June-September, reached around 653,000, with guests from the UAE, India, Saudi Arabia and India make up the majority of travellers.
Oman Air, which has been accused of sacrificing domestic routes in order to serve international passengers, may however be challenged in this market by Salam Air.
The low-cost carrier, which launched last year, is seeking to expand its operations at Salalah to being in regional guests to the growing destination.
As of July 2016, Oman increased the length of its multiple-entry tourist visas for certain foreign nationals in a bid to boost visitor numbers.
Citizens of 38 countries now have the option of purchasing multiple-entry visas that are valid for three months, up from the previous allowance of 21 days.
Meanwhile, visitors from India, Bangladesh and the Philippines can apply for an extended tourist visa if they have an Omani sponsor.
The hope is that this relaxation of visa requirements will encourage longer stays, and visits to multiple regions and attractions, and simultaneously boost the fortunes of government-owned Oman Air.
With the new terminal set to debut, a supportive owner in the Omani government, and the latest planes set to arrive, the future could well be bright for this growing regional champion.
More Information
Oman Air is the flagship carrier of the Sultanate of Oman.
It is considered the World’s Leading Airline – Economy Class by the World Travel Awards.
Founded in 1993, the airline has since witnessed strong growth and has played a major role in making Muscat an important traffic hub in the Middle East, supporting the commercial, industrial and tourism sectors.

Visa Helps Merchants Easily Adopt New, Global Specifications for QR Code Payments
Visa Ready program simplifies onboarding for Small and medium-sized merchants who want to deploy QR Code digital payments
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Visa (NYSE:V) announced its support of the new global QR Code Payment Specifications from EMVCo, the global technical body that manages the EMV Specifications. The specifications cover consumer-presented and merchant-presented QR code use cases for digital payment acceptance. QR Codes are two-dimensional machine-readable barcodes, used to facilitate mobile payments at the point-of-sale.
Visa and the other EMVCo Members worked to develop these new globally interoperable EMV specifications. Visa has already successfully enabled the merchant-presented QR technology in 15 countries around the world, with India, Kenya and Nigeria currently live in market with both bank and merchant partners.
"We've already seen tremendous progress towards adoption of standardized, interoperable QR code payment systems in the developing world," said Sam Shrauger, SVP, Digital Products, Visa. "We are working with governments and central banks in countries like India to develop and implement QR code payment solutions that provide the convenience and security that are synonymous with Visa and help the journey toward a cashless future."
Easy Implementation for Merchants
Visa has enabled the growth of merchant-presented QR code payments around the world with its innovative mobile payments solution, mVisa. mVisa allows consumers to pay for goods and services by scanning a QR code on a smart phone or entering a merchant number into their feature phones. Payment goes straight from the consumer's Visa account into the merchant's account and provides real-time notification to both parties. mVisa is completely interoperable, meaning that the consumer and the merchant do not need to be customers of the same bank. This brings the same convenience, security and reliability provided by the trusted Visa brand.
For merchants eager to harness of the power of QR code payments, the Visa Ready Program has adopted the interoperable QR standards to develop tools and capabilities which help easy generation and deployment of QR code merchants by banks, processors and merchant aggregators. Once enrolled, merchants can freely accept payments from any country or bank given mVisa's interoperability while trusting Visa will securely and efficiently process each transaction.
QR Code Payments Driving a Cashless Future
As digital payments help continue a shift toward a cashless future, this new global specification is an important step that promotes interoperability and standardizes the fast growing ecosystem of QR code payments across the world. Already, 33 banks and more than 328,000 merchants across India, Kenya and Nigeria have adopted the interoperable standards as they accelerate their QR code digital payment programs.
"mVisa enables successful completion of the transaction independent of the mobile operator service on both the consumer and the merchants phone, and the consumers and merchant's banks," said Shrauger. "This addresses a major challenge with mobile money programs, and lets consumers and merchants choose their own bank or mobile operator."
Reserve Bank of India has encouraged the adoption of standardized QR code payments to provide access to low-cost, secure digital payments to millions of consumers and merchants. Working with our partners, Visa is converting both every day and recurring cash purchases to digital payments through direct integrations with supermarket chains and large utility billers. By presenting dynamic QR codes to consumers that provide a seamless payment experience, billers such Tata Sky, Idea Cellular, Reliance Energy, Mahanagar Gas, as well as Pizza Hut and supermarket chains Nakumatt, Spar, Zucchini are bringing benefits of digital payments to millions of potential customers.
Visa intends to replicate this success in 12 other countries where mVisa has been enabled: Cambodia, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Rwanda, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda and Vietnam.
