Kentucky Derby 2024 (Full Race)
Mystik Dan Wins in a Dramatic Photo Finish at 150th Kentucky Derby
Mystik Dan has won the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby in a dramatic photo finish at Churchill Downs on Saturday in Louisville.
Photo finishes are rare at the Derby
Entering the race at 18-1 odds, Mystik Dan edged out Sierra Leone and Forever Young in a dramatic three-horse photo finish to capture the first leg of the Triple Crown. Sierra Leone finished in second place, while Forever Young finished in third place.
It was the 10th time in the race’s history a horse has won by a nose and the first since Grindstone in 1996, according to the NBC broadcast.
“This is unbelievable. That was longest few minutes I’ve ever felt in my life waiting for them to hang that number above us,” said jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. after the race.
“It was exciting when we hit the wire but I wasn’t sure if we won so it was quite a rush to sit here and wait for it.”
The victory is the first for Hernandez Jr. and trainer Kenny McPeek at the Kentucky Derby.

Having a delightful time with my best friend, a sixty-something English professor who has become a borderline shut-in since Covid. I haven't seen him since March 2020, but we talk on the phone a lot - a variety of factors has made him withdraw from society for a while, but he's trying to break the habit a bit.
The pandemic has been hell on teachers in general, but it reinvigorated him - synchronous remote learning has been fantastic for his whole teaching style, and he's excited by all the new tools and techniques he can deploy with everyone together in the digital space. It's doubly funny since he's the oldest person in the department, and all his colleagues hate remote learning.
I recently introduced him to video essays and he's been watching one at a time and we chat about it after. He already runs a popular radio show/ podcast, and the video essay format is very similar so he's getting quite a lot out of it in terms of technical components like structure. I started him on Jacob Geller, which may have been setting the bar too high, but I've tried to include a wide variety to check out.
Anyway, what I'm getting at is that I'd like to recommend finding a friend that is significantly different from yourself in age because it's been a grand time exposing him to entire branches of media that he never would have otherwise encountered himself. He loved Over the Garden Wall; he sends me short stories and novel recommendations; I am slowly pushing him into playing Kentucky Route Zero. More than once he's brought up something I showed him to a younger coworker, who is baffled by his knowledge. We both fluctuate on a similar wavelength, but the age gap and generational difference removes enough common ground to always have something to talk about. Get yourself some intergenerational solidarity 🤝

I've come to make an important announcement about my Loftside/Catch Your Fawncy ETSY Shop! Shadow the hedgehog is a bit- It is officially the second week of my college semester, and I think i'm getting my schedule down of when I have to sit down and study, when i have leisure time for video games and books, etc, etc. With that being said! I'm starting back into my ETSY shop slowly! First up is my character bracelets! I plan on making a wider variety of premade designs (And offering custom bracelets!!). I'm giving myself more time to work on all the poster + sticker + keychain designs because I have my ideas for them, it's just finding the time to properly sit down to work on them and going through multiple revisions of each work, because I want my work to be the best it can be if people buy them and give me money for them! ..on that note, if I were to make keychains of my au designs/oc's, would anyone be interested?

Happy Star Wars Day and Derby Day! May the Fourth be with all the fine young padawans racing today! 💥🏇
This year's Derby field is a big one, with a full 20 horses! Our picks are Fierceness (the favorite) and Chasing Freedom, but we will also be keeping an eye on Just Steel (who will be ridden by the son of Track Phantom's trainer!) and Forever Young, Japan's best shot yet for the Derby. And of course, we can't help rooting for West Saratoga, the only gray in this year's field and the first Derby contestant for cancer-battling trainer Larry Demeritte! 🐎
Now if I can just figure out how to turn on my lightsaber, can we have a lightsaber joust after the Derby? ⭐️⚔️🏇🤔
