Carpet Cleaning Company in North London - Clean Carpets
What is the best method of cleaning carpets?
The best method of cleaning carpets depends on various factors like the type of carpet, the nature of the stains, and personal preferences. Here are some common methods:
Steam Cleaning (Hot Water Extraction): This method involves using hot water and detergent under high pressure to extract dirt from the carpet. It's effective for deep cleaning and removing stubborn stains.
Dry Cleaning: This method uses specialized cleaning powders or foams that are applied to the carpet and then vacuumed up, eliminating dirt and stains. It's a good option for carpets that can't handle moisture well.
Shampooing: Using a machine that applies a foamy chemical on the carpet, agitates it, and then vacuums it up. It's not as commonly used due to the residue it can leave behind, which may require additional rinsing.
Bonnet Cleaning: This method involves using a specialized machine with a rotating pad soaked in a cleaning solution to scrub the surface of the carpet. It's more of a surface-level cleaning method.
DIY Methods: There are numerous DIY methods using baking soda, vinegar solutions, or specialized carpet cleaning products. These can work for minor stains or as interim cleaning but might not be as effective for deep cleaning.
For routine maintenance, regular vacuuming (at least once a week) can prevent dirt and debris from settling deep into the carpet fibers. It's also essential to address spills and stains promptly to prevent them from setting.
When deciding on the best method for your carpet, consider factors like the carpet material, manufacturer's recommendations, and the severity of stains. If in doubt, professional carpet cleaners can provide guidance and perform a thorough cleaning tailored to your carpet's needs.

super curious about the somebody told me fic 👀
hello caoimhe ty for asking! <3
so this is speirton based on this quote from Fierce Valor: 'GIs lived on rumors. Gossip and innuendo about superiors proved healthy distraction from thoughts of death and dismemberment. Men tended to believe what they wished to believe'.
it needs a lot of reworking but i'll put a very early draft extract below in which speirs fucks a pilot because statistically they're more likely to die. normal behaviour
‘Shit,’ an Able Company lieutenant says, lowering his newspaper in the passenger car. ‘We got anything left in the sky?’
The captain next to him leans over to read it too, and then shakes his head. ‘My college buddy’s in the 390th,’ he says, grimly, voice pitched low enough that Ron has to strain to hear it over the din of the train. ‘Reckons there’s plenty 4Fs and ladies back stateside building ‘em. Just no one to goddamn fly ‘em.’
He has thirty-six hours on his pass; he’s got thirty-two left when a tall, rakish Air Corps officer with a handsome scar that stands out starkly against the deep tan on his cheek catches him staring and laughs, leaning into him just a little too closely. ‘Africa. Long story.’
‘How many?’ Ron asks, after the officer has bought them both a drink, something amber-colored that makes his throat burn. There are burns on the officer’s wrists, too, half-healed and pink where they’re just visible below the cuffs of his jacket.
‘Hm?’ says the officer, eyes flicking up from Ron’s mouth as he lowers his glass. ‘Ah. Eleven. So far. You boys made it over yet?’
The officer has a room in Kensington with plush carpets that he pads across to retrieve the cigarettes in his discarded jacket by the doorway, and Ron’s jaw aches a little when he slides one into his mouth, the same way the officer’s hands shake just a little when he holds up his lighter.

The Earthshot finalists & winners weren’t even invited to attend the ceremony
December 04, 2022
By Kaiser
Just after Netflix premiered the Harry & Meghan teaser trailer, a Kensington Palace source huffed to Valentine Low at the Times: “They are two people who are accepting awards for themselves, talking about themselves, doing programmes about themselves. [William and Kate are] active members of the royal family who have a job to shine a spotlight on other people, give awards to other people. That’s the contrast.” Well, funny story – you know the big, keen Earthshot Awards which were endlessly previewed and served as a huge aggrandizement for Prince William to magnanimously “give a platform” to people doing groundbreaking environmental work? Well, William didn’t even want those Earthshot prize winners in Boston with him. Please, he might have had to touch someone poor. They did a satellite link-up for the Earthshot finalists and winners. Which wouldn’t be so egregious except that William burned through millions of dollars to put on an “awards show” with celebrities in attendance.
The food was plant-based, the flowers grown locally and the carpet, as is now tradition, was green. Guests invited to the second annual Earthshot Awards were whisked to the venue in electric taxis and encouraged to recycle pre-loved outfits.
Five budding winners each won £1 million to scale up their projects.
“A million dollars is significant,” Justin Winters, executive director of climate philanthropy organisation One Earth told the Boston Globe. “For a lot of these nonprofits and companies, it’s a game-changing investment. But I would say in this case, the level of attention and partnerships that are brought to the table — to the finalists and the award winners — are really significant.”
In order to reduce the carbon footprint, all finalists were filmed on home turf, joining the ceremony via a live video feed.
The Princess was among those who presented an award, warning that air pollution “poses a threat that knows no borders.”
Guests were treated to performances by Ellie Goulding, Annie Lennox, and Billie Eilish. After the show, the Prince and Princess went backstage to thank the celebrities who had taken part.
The royals flew home on a British Airways flight overnight to be reunited with their three children.
[From The Telegraph]
Arguably, the best thing one could say about Earthshot is that William is platforming diverse people making diverse solutions to environmental issues, and that Earthshot could become a place to facilitate innovation, growth and collaboration within sustainable and environmental industries. Except that for William, all of the Earthshot winners should literally stay at home, not meet with each other, not fuel collaboration or innovation, and here’s some money and now shut up about it while he chums it up with Rami Malek. They seriously made celebrities fly into Boston for a big awards show… and then didn’t invite the nominees to come to Boston. He made them stay at home. He doesn’t think that looks bad or that it should have been organized differently. He does not believe that prize winners should actually be feted and recognized for their work in person.

From Sheep to Carpets: Moritz Grossman (1844-1920) and Sarah Grossman (1847-1921)
I descend from the Grossman family. My great great grandparents (Moritz and Sarah Grossman featured in the article), great grandparents, great aunt and dozens of other Grossmans are buried at Mt. Carmel. Moritz and Sarah had many children and they and their lines are at Mt. Carmel. They came from Austria-Hungary and are the earliest members of my family to immigrate to the United States.
Howard Treatman
Update from Howard: The "Reisman family" picture is particularly touching. In it you see my great grandmother Bertha Reisman in the center with my grandmother Ethel Reisman on the left and my great aunt Blanche Resiman on the right. She is the little girl who died at age nine that my cousin Beth Kissileff wrote about.
My grandmother Ethel died in her 40’s of leukemia and Bertha raised my mother Harriet and my Aunt Sandy for several years. My mother always used to say that she remembered her grandmother Bertha as having an extremely sweet but sad expression. You see that in the picture of Bertha and Sandy entitled "Granny and Sandy". My mother loved the "Reisman Family” photo and always noted the untempered joy and love on Bertha’s face in that photo from the time before she experienced her losses.
Note from the Museum: Moritz (with a healthy dose of his son Aaron’s entrepreneurial spirit) founded what became the Kensington Carpet Co. (in business from 1888-1964). Another son Meyer brought a wagon of stock to Atlantic City in 1912, founding the Grossman’s Kensington Furniture Company. Read more in the article above.

chapter one.
taglist
The wooden door with the famous stain glass mermaid window opens as Harry walks through the threshold, jostling the bell. He’s running late, which isn’t normally like him, due to the fact that he couldn’t decide which overcoat to wear, finally deciding on the tan one instead of the navy. He wanted everything to be perfect when meeting Daphne J. His stomach turns as sheds his jacket and carries the garment over his arm while raking his fingers through his brown messy hair.
He takes off his black flat top baker hat before scanning the pub quickly, a worried look flashing across his face until he saw her sitting on a stool that has a leg a few centimetres short of the others. She’s jostling the chair as she waits for him. He pushes the through the group of friends that are currently yelling orders to the barmaid. She doesn’t look up until he reaches the table.
“Daphne?” he asks, sliding onto the stool. He reaches out for a handshake, but a wide-eyed look takes him aback. She looks up at him with her honey eyes, and smiles at him quizzically. He is nothing like Daphne imagined. She holds onto the small glass cup between her two fingers. The man thanks her for ordering the pint ahead of time.
“I’ve been proper shacked.”
Not the best way to start the conversation, but Daphne Jones figured it was the best to talk about the invisible elephant in the room first before they got to the good stuff. Harry sits back in his chair as he watches the blonde with the full figure take back a shot of whatever brown liquor she requested. She had worn what she promised: olive green jumper with her hair in a low side bun.
She had seemed alright given the limited messaging they had fueled back and forth. She insisted they meet in a public place, which Harry understood. She even said that she had brought along a friend in case anything weird were to happen. She had stressed the word weird out like Harry had planned on kidnapping the birdie himself or something of that nature.
Sure, Daphne was easy on the eyes to him. She might have even been his type to chat up if they had been two strangers in a pub on a Thursday night, but they were potential flatmates and crossing the lines would bring disaster upon itself.
“But I want to let y’know that I’ve got first and last month’s rent plus possibly a deposit,” Daphne smiles as Harry mulls over the newly presented fact that Daphne now has no job. “Depending on if I get my furniture back from Stephen.”
“Don’t suppose I need any of that. Just want someone to help with bills and such. Mind if I ask why you were sacked?” Harry takes a long sip of beer as Daphne rolls her mouth in. She looks to Eliza, whose sitting at the bar waiting for the signal. If Daphne blinks twice, she’s ready for action.
“I, erm, told the CEO of the company to stuff her opinion of my presentation that could bring the company thousands where it does not shine,” Daphne pouts her lips out as she looks anywhere but Harry’s green eyes. For a stranger, he had a way of making Daphne feel inadequate.
“Mm.”
“She said it didn’t have enough research to help back my idea up. The trollop has no idea how long I’ve done research. I’ve about done my head in with numbers and shit,” Daphne waves for another drink. Her smile is genuine when she looks back at Harry.
“How long have you been without?” Harry rubs his scruffy chin with his thumb and forefinger. Not quite sure how to take Daphne, he still continues to conduct the interview.
“Just today,” Daphne grumbles. She puts her hands in mid air as if she surrenders. “But I would not have come if I didn’t really want to live somewhere besides my friend’s couch. Got an interview Monday.”
Harry is pleased with Daphne’s work ethic. She stands up for herself which would come in handy. when it came to Harry’s mates.
“Whose Stephen?” Harry remembers the name Daphne mentioned earlier. “Why does he have your furniture?”
“Arsehole of a boyfriend, I’ll tell you that. Ruddy bloke broke it off with me last week via work email because ‘it wasn’t working out’. Well, it wasn’t working out when he started seeing Miss Slag from Accounting, but he kicked me out and I’m stuck with Liza. Fucking ball-bag.”
Harry remembers Katherine from accounting at his job started seeing a Stephen a few weeks back.
“Does this Stephen work for Smith and Weston?”
“Yeah, that’s him. He’s the assistant manager to God knows and he thinks his cock is Jesus Christ himself. Why?”
“Oh, nothing. Do you cook?” Harry asks, leaning his elbows on the table. The short woman brings out the brown liquor and fills Daphne’s small glass.
“Do I need to take offense to that?” Daphne cocks a brow up before throwing back the shot of burning liquid.
“Sorry, I just...” He didn’t know what he wanted to say. “My mum used to cook, and...”
“Used to?” Daphne holds the small cup, anxiety filling her body. She must have said something wrong. “Is she?”
“No, she isn’t dead,” Harry half laughs. “She’s still very much alive. Just haven’t seen her in a bit with me working in the city and all. She’s out in the countryside running a posh little pub like this one.” Daphne sighs, a burst of wind of relief.
“Do you have a girlfriend?”
“No.”
“Boyfriend?”
“No.”
“Are you gay? Because it’s cool if you are. I just want to be prepared when you bring someone over.” Harry says, his lips forming a tight line.
“I’m not gay.” Daphne heaves her brow up before letting it down. She looks over at Eliza again- still waiting. “Should I take offense to that?”
Daphne shakes her head. “No. Few more questions. Are you a serial killer?”
“Does it really matter at this point?” Harry takes a long look at the small black line on Daphne’s skin just above her collar bone that is sticking out from under her jumper.
“No I guess not. You’d kill me by now.” Daphne laughs as Harry’s smile widens. She was starting to feel more comfortable around him.
“What’s the view like?”
“Kensington Gardens. Sunset is quite beautiful.”
“I’m in.”
“Just like that?” Harry asks bewildered. “No background checks? No wondering if I own a sex slave? No deranged friend asking the like?”
“As long as you’re not tossing it in the main room, I do not care what you do. That’s your business. Plus, I’m desperate.”
“Well, alright then, I guess you’ll want to see the place. We can schedule-“
“None of that,” Daphne is beginning to get louder as the alcohol soaks into her system. “A round for newfound roomies.” She waves over the waitress and asks for two new shots. Harry smiles at her and watches Daphne become pissed.
☕︎︎
It was sometime before Daphne got up the courage to ask what was desperately eating at her. “Why don’t you have anyone? You’re quite handsome.” She is currently being walked to her new home after she insisted on seeing the view tonight. Daphne had warded Eliza home after much protest.
“Haven’t found the right one, I guess,” Harry hold Daphne’s arm over his shoulder as they wait for the lift to move. Her face is close to Harry’s neck and as she inhales, she smells the distant scent of expensive cologne.
“Forgot to ask you what you do...for a living,” Daphne burps and she tastes the alcohol again.
“I work at Smith and Weston.”
The lift opens up to a wide hallway as Daphne gasps. The cream walls reflect from the lighting hanging on them and the brown carpet runs along the length of the building. Harry stops at the fourth door on the level. “This is where I die, isn’t it?” Daphne giggles.
“Yes,” Harry laughs as he pushes the door open. The white walls illuminate the tile floor as a chandelier hangs down inside the main room. The view from the large windows is currently being blocked by the gray no-peak curtains blanketing the night sky. The brown leather couch sit perpendicular to the widows with the large flat screen television sitting on the wall that cuts into the hallway. Daphne turns and sees the open kitchen with the small island. The brown and grays suddenly stop where the main room begins. Two hallways on either side of the flat run down to the bedrooms and baths.
“So,” Harry clears his throat after putting Daphne on the brown leather couch. “Your room will be there.” He points in front of him. “And mine is back here.” The hallway with the television leads to Harry’s paradise.
“Nice,” Daphne stretches out her word before smiling, “I’ll like it here. We’ll make a great team.” Daphne yawns before stretching her body on the incredibly soft leather. “Can I stay here seeing how I’m living with you now?”
“Sure, I can get you a blanket or-” Harry is cut off as Daphne speaks over him. “We can share your bed. I need the extra support.’
Harry thinks is over for a moment. “Okay.”
Harry leads Daphne to his bedroom. Everything has its place Daphne noticed. The large television is propped against the wall as it looks down on Harry’s rather large bed. The quilt looks hand made and is very rich in color. Small pictures are gathered on the funiture, but what takes Daphne’s notice is the small bottle of lotion and tissues next to Harry’s sunken side of the bed.
Daphne giggles as Harry lays her down on the right side. He looks up, eyes wide, his cheeks instantly become hot. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be,” Daphne yawns again as she lays down. Her head hits the fluffy pillow and before Harry could peel off his coat, he heard the soft snores escaping Daphne’s mouth.
☕︎︎
“Daph, you twitch in your sleep,” Harry’s voice thick from his slumber. His knuckles rub the blurriness away; his eyes open at the sound of Daphne sighing heavily. “And you moan.”
“Sorry,” Daphne grumbled. She turns her head to face her bedmate- wild blonde hair sticking out of her messy bun. Harry stops himself from taking his fingers through her tangled hair.
“You sound like a proper sex phone operator. Didn’t know if I should wake you or not. Didn’t want to disturb,” Harry chuckled to himself as he lingered on his last word. Dark circles had formed under his new roommate’s eyes.
“Sod off, Harold. Now isn’t the time for your jokes. I had enough of them back at the pub. My head is ringing and I’m looking at an ugly bloke. Not how I wanted to start my morning,” The last bit hurt Harry quite a bit and he didn’t know why.
“I’m not ugly,” Harry sat up on his elbow. He was pleased that Daphne had made through the night alive.
“Arrogance before coffee,” Daphne rolled out of bed- the clothes from last night sticking to her body. “Just how I like my men.” The tone of her voice was what threw Harry for a loop. This wasn’t the same girl from the pub last night. No, the girl last night threw banter around like a child digging in the dirt. The girl before him was unusually cruel.
Harry sighs as he closes his eyes again. He was in it from the get go.

“A key figure in the Arts & Crafts Movement, Morris championed a principle of handmade production that didn't chime with the Victorian era's focus on industrial 'progress'.
Belonging to [The Set/The Brotherhood] group gave Morris an awareness of the deep divisions in contemporary society, and sparked his interest in trying to create an alternative to the dehumanising industrial systems that produced poor-quality, 'unnatural' objects.
In the late 1860s, two prestigious decorating commissions helped establish Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co.'s reputation: one for a new dining room at the South Kensington Museum (later the V&A), and another at St James's Palace. He was also busy producing his first wallpapers, whose designs were inspired by English gardens and hedgerows. To make them, he researched and revived historical printing and dyeing methods. This insistence on establishing a 'from scratch' understanding of process was to become a hallmark of Morris's career.
In 1875 Morris became sole director of the renamed and restructured Morris & Company. Over the next decade he continued to design at an impressive rate, adding at least 32 printed fabrics, 23 woven fabrics and 21 wallpapers – as well as more designs for carpets and rugs, embroidery and tapestry – to the company's range of goods.
In 1891 (the same year he turned down the Poet Laureateship after the death of Tennyson), Morris set up the Kelmscott Press. The books the Press produced – eventually, a total of 66 – were printed and bound in a medieval style, with Morris designing their typefaces, initial letters and borders. The most famous of these is an illustrated edition of the works of Geoffrey Chaucer, which was published in 1896, a few months before Morris's death.”

JfT: Tied Tight, Part 2
For the lovely @miraculouspaon <3
Parts 1, 2:
34 Years before Just for Tonight
“The new bedding you requested was delivered today. It’s being washed now and will be ready by the time you retire for the night.” Nathalie made a note on her clipboard.
Adele giggled. “I’m sorry, the new bedding I requested?”
Nathalie attempted to keep her expression neutral. “Your name is on the order form and it was rather expensive. Having it shipped from Milan was a luxury only afforded you because of your position.”
“Good thing my husband is the prince of France then, I suppose. Is it pretty?”
“Would I order anything ugly for you?” Nathalie lifted an eyebrow in challenge.
“Well, I doubt you would think it was ugly.”
“I’m going to pretend you aren’t insinuating I have bad taste simply because I’m not a fan of floral prints.”
“I’m not insinuating anything of the sort.” Adele tugged on her arm in a familiar gesture and Nathalie folded down to the couch with a sigh of fond exasperation.
“I have work to do, you know.”
“You always have work to do. Can’t we cuddle for a few minutes?” Adele was already curling herself around the other woman with a happy hum.
“I told you I can’t do this during the day,” Nathalie said softly but the warmth radiating off the princess was enough to keep her from fighting too hard.
If she was being honest with herself, she’d begun to crave Adele’s company as much as the other woman seemed to crave hers. Nathalie wasn’t sure if it was the bond or if it was the fact that they were the only two women stuck in their situation, but she’d grown very fond of Adele over the past year. More often than not, she was slipping into her suite after she’d finished for the day and Adele was always awake and waiting. They talked about their days and Adele always asked about Gabriel and Felix. Nathalie found it profoundly sad that she was the one relaying information about her husband and stepson but Adele seemed thankful to learn whatever she could.
The older Felix got, the more he refused to have anything to do with Adele and her contact with Gabriel was limited to quick glimpses during the day and dinner every night. Nathalie would feel her sadness like a heavy blanket some days and it was all she could do to get through her tasks.
An unexpected side effect she’d noticed was the closer she got to Adele, the more distance she was putting between herself and Gabriel. She hadn’t meant to do it...at first. Though the more time she spent with her bond mate stoked her irritation for her sire. He was supposed to be the one comforting his wife, making her smile, keeping her warm. She was beginning to resent him and running out of the energy to fight the feeling. That couldn’t happen. He was her sire. It was the bond creating these feelings. It had to be.
She needed space.
Distance.
“You’re thinking too hard,” Adele murmured, raising her face to look up at her. “What’s wrong?”
“Perhaps I shouldn’t stay here tonight,” Nathalie answered carefully, not sure she liked the taste of the words on her tongue.
“What? Why not? The bedding!” Adele pulled back to a sitting position. “You have to stay tonight.”
“I stay in here too often,” she frowned, standing. “It’s...” She swallowed thickly as she watched Adele’s polite mask slide into place.
“Of course, I understand.”
Nathalie felt her resolve faltering so she gave her a quick nod and gathered her clipboard, fleeing the suite as quickly as she could without being too obvious.
_______________________________
“You should pay more attention to your wife.”
Gabriel looked up from the requests from other royals that he’d been pouring over. “Has something happened to Adele?”
“She’s not my responsibility, sir.” Nathalie straightened her spine. “You need to put in more time with her than simply eating dinner at the same table every night. You should be sharing her bed.”
He clenched his jaw. “I hardly think that’s any of your business.”
“It became my business when you had her magically bound to me. I feel things I shouldn’t be feeling.”
They glared at each other from across the desk until Gabriel finally glanced away. Nathalie felt a small thrill of victory.
“You can’t understand,” he began.
“How it feels to lose someone?” she finished pointedly. “Is that what you were going to say?”
“Nathalie--”
“Have you really forgotten how you found me, sir? Crying and ready to die on Michelle’s grave? Don’t you dare assume I don’t know what it’s like to lose someone I loved. And while our relationship wasn’t the same as yours, I adored Madeline too. You aren’t the only one who lost her.” Her skin felt too hot but she held her ground, watching Gabriel go pale.
There was a charged silence and then he was speaking, voice even and devoid of emotion. “How can you tell me to move on when you never have?”
Nathalie stepped back as if he’d dealt her a physical blow. “Excuse me?”
“Fifty-plus years, Nathalie. Who have you been with since Michelle?” He returned his attention to the papers on his desk. “So you’ll pardon me if I’m still mourning the love of my life a mere five years later. You’re dismissed.”
A cold rage formed in her gut. “Someone has to take care of Adele, sir. She’s sad and lonely and craving love and attention. You married her and abandoned her and now--”
“That’s what you’re for,” he answered cooly. “Now, go, Nathalie. I have work to do.”
She left his office on shaky legs. Angry tears stung her eyes as she made her way towards her room. She found herself passing Felix’s in habit and realized the guard usually posted outside his door was nowhere to be found. Her heart dropped as she pushed open the door and found the guilty nine-year old looking back over his shoulder at her, one leg out his open window.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she growled, stalking into the room.
“Running away?”
“Bed, now.”
He grumbled, dropping a bulging bag to the carpeted floor. It fell with a large thud, no doubt filled with books he deemed important for his escape. “I would’ve come back someday to visit.”
Nathalie pinched the bridge of her nose. “You have no idea how much I did not need this today, Felix.”
“See? I’m a burden. If you let me run away--”
“Stop talking. So help me, if you aren’t in this room tomorrow morning, I will hunt you down and make you watch while I rip the pages out of your favorite books.”
Felix’s bottom lip quivered for a second before he lifted his chin defiantly. “You finally hate me just as much as everyone else then, I guess.”
“Don’t be so dramatic. I’m angry because I love you and it would kill me if you were suddenly gone and I didn’t know if you were safe.” She closed her eyes and tried to find her calm. “You can’t run away. Please understand that.”
“Nat, I hate it here,” he whispered.
She had the split second urge to audibly agree with him but held back. “It will get better.”
“You don’t know that.” He yawned suddenly and Nathalie pointed to the bed. Felix swore under his breath and climbed in.
“What did you do to the guard?” she asked, busying herself with the edge of his blanket. “Kensington was assigned here tonight, wasn’t he?”
The guilty look was back but mingled with a bit of pride. “I demanded he get me fresh blood from the kitchen or I would tell Father I was being neglected.”
“Brat. I’ll make sure he knows better.”
“Are you going to tell Father?”
“Do you promise me not to try something so reckless again without talking to me first?” she wagered.
Felix thought on it for a minute and nodded, the blanket brushing against his chin. “I promise if you promise.”
“I promise.”
_______________________________
Nathalie made it three hours into the night before she was wrapping her robe around her and slinking down the hall. She passed by Pierce outside Gabriel’s room and he gave her a knowing nod. Perhaps one day she would try to explain things to him, or perhaps she wouldn’t. She’d come to learn that Pierce picked up on much more than he was given credit for.
Garner stood at attention in front of Adele’s suite door but stepped aside without a word as Nathalie moved to let herself inside. She’d helped Gabriel choose every guard who watched over the members of his family and found herself still happy with those choices.
The suite was dark as she slipped inside. She heard the rustling of cloth and then Adele was calling her name very softly.
“It’s me,” Nathalie affirmed, moving into the bedroom. “I’m sorry I--”
“Just come to bed,” Adele whispered.
Nathalie moved through the dark with familiar ease and took off her robe, laying it over the armchair in the corner of the room. She slid into the bed and Adele immediately curled against her.
“I couldn’t sleep without you here.”
“I was having the same trouble,” Nathalie admitted. “About earlier--”
“I like the new sheets,” Adele interrupted. “They really are pretty.”
“And comfortable.” Nathalie turned on her side. Her eyes had adjusted to the dark and she could make out Adele’s face. “I need to talk.”
Adele gave a small nod, hair rustling against her pillowcase.
Nathalie took in a deep breath. “I got scared earlier. This, between us, scares me. I don’t know what’s real or what’s the bond and you’re Gabriel’s wife--”
“Who he doesn’t seem to have any time or affection for,” Adele interjected wryly.
“That’s what you’re for.”
Gabriel’s words rang in her head. She knew he’d been hurt by her accusations; she’d seen it in his eyes before he shut himself off. Surely he hadn’t really meant...
“You’re the only one who cares about me. You don’t know how much having you here means to me.” Adele snuggled closer, burying her face against Nathalie’s throat. This position wasn’t exactly new between them but something about it felt different tonight. Nathalie was torn between pulling away and hugging her closer.
“Thank you for taking care of me, Nathalie,” Adele breathed and pressed a kiss against the soft skin of her throat.
