quidditch and class
Okay originally this was a tangent in the tags of my last post but I started thinking about it more and it got too complex haha.
While thinking about quidditch as a sport, we see many very prominent, very talented female players like Ginny, the other Gryffindor Chasers, Gwenog Jones/the Holyhead Harpies, Mullet, Moran. (Notably, Katie, Ginny, and Demelza are all explicitly better than Seamus and Dean. And Ron haha.) As as a sport it's seemingly equal between genders and therefore played in mixed-gender teams, and this is likely explained by the fact that speed is controlled by an external object, the broom. So while what we value in sport and athleticism in the real world has been heavily predicated on what we consider the biological 'advantages' of (cis) men, in Quidditch this is not so much the case.
It may be that certain positions (Beater) are generally more suited to cis men, but it may also be that women excel specifically as Chasers and Seekers, which are after all the key positions on a Quidditch team. If everyone is capable of achieving the same speed (and therefore force) on a broomstick, other factors might come into play, such as flexibility, dexterity, endurance, strategy.
However, the importance of the humble broomstick also means that the sport would be strongly influenced by class. Who can afford the best broom, basically.
It's wild that broom choice in pro quidditch isn't (as far as we know) standardised, but essentially a wealthy team/nation like I guess Ireland lol would have an advantage against a less wealthy team or nation, who couldn't supply Firebolts to all its players. In the case of Ireland I suppose the British Ministry of Magic also possibly governs them (I think? rip? ?) so Ireland would have funding from Britain, presumably.
And to be clear this happens irl too, less obviously perhaps, but wealthier nations will be able to dedicate more resources, better equipment, and better training to their athletes. This is why the US wins so many Olympic medals, not because its people are inherently better or more athletic than other countries with comparable populations, whatever American Exceptionalism would have you believe.
Harry's good without his Firebolt but also it's a little unfair haha. To be fair Ginny's just as good, maybe better than him, with whatever the Weasleys can afford for her. And it's also true that in CoS Malfoy/the Slytherins are still worse than Harry and the Gryffindors, even with better brooms, as I think Wood points out. So it could be that broom choice doesn't matter quite as much as it seems, in the sense that at least the talent of the athlete is the predominant factor in how well any given broom functions. In the flying lesson in PS we see that brooms do respond to some sort of innate talent in the user, so this would make some sense.
Still, in a situation with two equally matched players in terms of talent, the determining factor would likely be broom quality. So it is still important. I assume that JKR just didn't think about this lmao. Which whatever, maybe if HP was a series about sport, not delving into this question would matter more (and by her own admission she designed Quidditch to not make sense.) I'd have to reread Quidditch Through the Ages but it really should have been mentioned there lol. Oh well, not sure how realistic it is for 'Kennilworthy Whisp' to have a class-based analysis of his favourite sport anyway lmao.
For the purposes of worldbuilding I think it's fine for this to be the case, since the WW is not supposed to be a fair, perfect utopia, and like I said this very much happens in real life too. It's interesting to think about though.
#quidditch#anyway what are everyone's favourite teams#i'd judge you for chudley cannons#and if you like the tornadoes you better not have just jumped on the bandwagon after they started winning the league#meta#my ex used to be a pro football player and she always said that in women's football strategical play was a bit more important#obv idk if that's true its just what she said haha. contrasted with men's football where speed and force are more key#i have no idea though. i have little idea about and interest in sport in general honestly

The world is a better place with you in it.
Prompt from @apalapucian #76 The World is a better place with you in it. from this list
(Send me a number and a pairing and I'll write a drabble)
Lily sat on the low stone wall marking the castle grounds, staring out at the vast stretch of hills and valleys. The autumn winds had just started to change, and leaves had yet to start raining down from the branches. She was already tired of being at school.
“Alright, Evans?”
Of course, he found her. Of all the people in the castle, James Bloody Potter was the one who broke her solitude.
James hopped onto the wall and sat next to her. “Chocolate frog?” he offered. “Though if you get a Kennilworthy Whisp card, you’ve got to give it to me. He’s missing from my collection.”
Lily looked at James skeptically. James pocketed the chocolate and shrugged. “Okay, never mind.”
“What are you doing here, Potter?”
“I was going to ask you the same thing. You’re not going to run for it, are you?”
“But haven’t you heard?” Lily let out a hollow laugh. “Apparently the school would be a better place without people like me in it.”
“That’s rubbish. Mulciber is an idiot.”
“He’s not the only one that thinks that way. More students seem to think harassing Mudbloods is funny these days.”
James’ eyes grew dark, and his jaw tightened. “You shouldn’t use that word. No one should.”
Lily snorted and continued to stare off at the harsh autumn landscape. James got up from the wall and turned back to head to the castle. She heard his voice behind her.
“They are wrong. I hope you know that. The school—the world, actually—is a better place with you in it.”
Lily looked at where James had been sitting and saw that the chocolate frog he had offered her had been left behind.

Books, children’s stories and comics in the WW
There’s much more than just school text books in the Wizarding World, so as logical it is to assume that muggle borns read popular muggle fairytales during their childhood, it’s equally logical to think the same about magically raised children! And adults ( we known how those witches piled up for Lockharts autograph in Diagon Alley lol )
Here’s a list of wizarding books that are not Hogwarts textbooks
Children’s stories:
Tales of Beedle the Bard - book containing many wizarding fairytales. Stories in the book: The Tale of the Three Brothers‘ ; ‘The Fountain of Fair Fortune‘ ; ‘The Warlock’s Hairy Heart‘ ; ‘The Wizard and the Hopping Pot‘ ; ‘Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump‘. As Ron says his mother read the book to him when he was young.
Toadstool Tales - a series of adaptations of other works, written by Beatrix Bloxam. They contained soppy, "sanitised" versions of other works, including The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which was Mrs Bloxam's way of purifying them so as to preserve children's innocence. The book is universally loathed by wizarding children
Comics:
Adventures of Martin Miggs, the Mad Muggle - Ron liked these comics a lot since he had a stash of them in his bedroom
Loony Nonby v.s. Cornish Pixie - read by Dean and Harry
Fiction:
Enchanted Encounters- a series of books written by the author Fifi LaFolle

"Quidditch Through the Ages"- Kennilworthy Whisp (JK Rowling)

Polish below⬇️
I really enjoyed reading. History of that very interesting wizard's game, even if totally fantasy and fake, made me thought like it's real game for a while. I loved the orgins of the game, everything came out to be logical and entertaining. Great summer, short story to read on a beach or terrace.
______

Embrace Your Inner Geek: Read a book about geek culture

PopSugar: A book mentioned in another book
About a year and a half ago I read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them in preparation for the movie that came out last year. I absolutely loved it and enjoyed the fact that I was reading a fictional book mentioned in another fictional book that I quite enjoyed. And about two or three years ago I read The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which I found very fascinating, especially the Tale of the Three Brothers (which was read in Hermione’s voice in my head thanks to the movie version of Deathly Hallows). So, when I saw this prompt for the PopSugar Reading Challenge, I knew I just had to read the only book I hadn’t read that J. K. Rowling had published.
Quidditch Through the Ages is a book that takes you through the history of the most famous wizarding sport up through what would have been the present day when the book was “published for the Muggles,” as Dumbledore says in the foreword. I found the history of the sport fascinating, as I think anyone who is easily fascinated with the history of fictional worlds will be. I was also appreciative of the explanation of the rules of Quidditch and the explanation of the changes that have taken place over the course of the last few centuries. And I was laughing at some of the descriptions of the Quidditch teams from Britain and Ireland, particularly the description of the Chudley Cannons (Ron’s favorite team). I also really enjoyed this book because Quidditch is the only sport I’ve been able to follow and understand completely over the years, despite my nine years of marching band and being forced to pay attention to football games.
For anyone looking for a good, fascinating, quick read, I highly recommend Quidditch Through the Ages!

HOME: Book 2 - CHAPTER THREE
MASTERLIST
Veronica’s eyes fluttered shut as she filled her lungs with the crisp autumn air that surrounded her as she sat under a tree on the shore of the Black Lake. It was a Saturday, and Charlie had left for Quidditch practice after breakfast that morning. He had made it onto the Gryffindor Quidditch team as the Seeker; he had been lucky, he had been the only person to try out for Seeker, so he hadn’t even really had to try out. The Gryffindor captain had just wanted to make sure he could even fly, and once she saw how good he was, that was it. He was on the team.
At breakfast, Veronica had mentioned that she would be reading at their spot near the Black Lake and to meet her there when he was done. She knew he would be arriving soon as it was noon and practice should have been coming to an end. Veronica was extremely glad that Emily insisted on having weekends off to recover from an intense week of practice; Veronica enjoyed having time to relax, and this was her happy place. Autumn was her favorite time of year, but she also loved the breeze coming off the lake in the warmer months when she couldn’t handle the heat. Plus, most students preferred to hang out in the courtyard or their common rooms, so it was always quiet and peaceful.
Normally, Veronica would have been reading one of her textbooks or a book about spells that she borrowed from the library. But ever since she made the Quidditch team, that was all she could think about. She was still a straight O student, but now she spent most of her free time thinking about and studying Quidditch. Besides, she was already outstanding in all her courses, so now she needed to be outstanding in Quidditch too. The first game of the season, that just so happened to be between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, was fast approaching, and she wanted to be ready. She hated to look incompetent, and she refused to let Quidditch ruin her perfect reputation. So there she was, reading ‘Beating the Bludgers – A Study of Defensive Strategies in Quidditch,’ another great read by Kennilworthy Whisp that Emily had given her to study.
She had been so busy reading and making notes that she hadn’t heard a group of boys approaching until they were standing directly in front of her. Actually, she hadn’t even noticed them then. Soon enough, she didn’t have a choice but to notice them when the leader of the group yanked the book out of her hands and tossed it into the lake. Veronica’s eyebrows furrowed and her jaw dropped as she stared in disbelief at Archie. It had only been two weeks since tryouts, and she knew he still felt resentment towards her, but she hadn’t expected him to bully her like this. Veronica ignored her book, thankful that she had cast a water repelling charm on it earlier that morning, and focused on the group in front of her, worried about what they might do to her. Her wand was in her back pocket, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to reach it fast enough to protect herself.
“Hiya Singer. I’m glad we made it before Weasley got back. I was hoping to have a little chat with Ravenclaw’s star Beater.” His voice dripped with venom as those last three words left his lips. “I was so happy to overhear you telling him this morning that you would be here, it’s so hard to get you alone. You two are practically stuck like glue.” The smirk on his face did nothing to ease her worries.
“Archie–”
“Levicorpus!”
In a flash, Veronica felt her world spin as she was yanked up into the air by her ankle. The sudden movement made her nauseous, and she had to close her eyes to stop the dizziness. When she opened them again, she was terrified of what she saw. She was dangling inches above the cold, dark water of the Great Lake. Not being able to see beneath the surface only worsened her anxiety. Unfortunately for her, Archie was just getting started. “You know, I heard from some of your fellow second-years that you’re afraid of water. Let’s see how true that is.”
Veronica felt a rush of cold water fill her lungs as she was unprepared to be dunked up to her shoulders into the water below. The panic that filled her only made it worse as she struggled to breathe and fought to stay conscious. She felt a sharp pain in her chest as her heart raced a million miles a minute and threatened to explode. After what felt like hours but was merely seconds, she was pulled back out, coughing her lungs out as she tried to catch her breath. Her teeth chattered uncontrollably as the cold air hit her now wet hair. Once Veronica managed to catch her bearings, she noticed a commotion taking place back on the shore. From what she could tell as she hung upside down, Charlie had come back from practice to find his best friend being tortured by her fellow housemates. She knew it was him from his signature Weasley red hair, and she could hear him yelling and cursing at Archie to let her go. Charlie was being held back by Archie’s posse, but Veronica noticed there was a second person that she couldn’t recognize fighting against the group. As she strained her ears to listen, she could hear someone yelling that this was never part of the plan and that Archie was taking this too far. She realized a member of the posse must have come to his senses and realized this was wrong, but there was nothing either of them could do against the large group. Archie didn’t even acknowledge them as he had his back to them, standing at the water’s edge watching Veronica dangling in the air looking like a wet rat.
Veronica’s eyes widened as the water rushed up to meet her again. “Archie, please don’t–” was all she managed to get out before she broke through the water’s surface and felt her lungs burn as they filled with ice cold water again. She tried to stay calm, but her mind was filled with thoughts of her death, and the only thing she could think of was how she wished she would have told Charlie how she felt about him. She didn’t want to die with any regrets.
Veronica felt herself teetering on the edge of unconsciousness when she was pulled out of the water again. She coughed up all the water from her lungs and gasped, trying to fill them with air as quickly as possible. This made her feel very lightheaded, but she didn’t care. She needed to breathe, and she didn’t risk speaking again because she wanted to be prepared for the next dunk.
“What?” Archie yelled at her. “Nothing to say, Singer? You aren’t going to beg me to stop?” He cackled loudly; he was enjoying this. “You’re going to give up that easily? Beaters are supposed to be stronger than that! I knew you weren't cut out for this posi—”
Veronica stared at the group of boys on the shore as they all stood and gaped at something behind her that she couldn't see.
"What the bloody hell is that!?!"
"It's the giant squid that lives in the lake!"
"But it doesn't come out of the lake at this time of year! What is it doing?"
Veronica felt water splash the right side of her body, and she turned her head just in time to see the giant squid passing her at a fast pace and speeding towards the boys on the shore. Archie barely had time to take a step back before the squid wrapped a tentacle around him and lifted him into the air, shaking him violently. Archie let out a high-pitched scream and the squid let out a sound that Veronica had never heard before as it pointed furiously at her, while it never took its eyes off Archie.
“Veronica!!” She heard Charlie yell before she plummeted head first into the icy water below as Archie lost focus on the spell that was holding her up in the air.
Veronica’s heart was pounding out of her chest as the water surrounded her on all sides, and her mind raced as she tried to get herself to the surface. The problem was, Veronica had no idea which way was up as the water was pitch black. She learned the hard way that the sun’s rays had no way to penetrate through the dark water, but even if she could see the surface, she wouldn’t be able to get there. She couldn’t swim. To make things worse, the water was freezing, which made her lungs constrict and made her entire body shiver, trying to keep her warm. Her teeth were chattering involuntarily, which made her mouth open and water enter her lungs, making them feel like they were on fire.
As Veronica sank deeper and deeper into the lake, she closed her eyes, which didn’t make much of a difference anyway, and she tried to fight against unconsciousness. She knew Charlie would be trying desperately to find her, but Archie had held her far out over the lake, and it was huge and deep. Not to mention the other creatures that lived in the lake that may try to stop Charlie from invading their home. It would be a long time before he found her, if he found her at all, and by then it would be too late. She knew she needed to fight, but she also knew there was nothing she could do.
As Veronica opened her eyes again, she noticed that the water was much clearer now, and she could actually see the sun shining on the surface of the water. How had that happened? She wasn’t sure, but she didn’t care. As her eyes adjusted to the light, she noticed two figures standing over her, blurred by the water in her eyes. Despite this, Veronica thought they looked like her parents, but she just couldn’t be sure. As she became more conscious of her surroundings, she could feel a hard, flat surface under her back, and as she moved her arms and legs, she could feel the same thing surrounding her. This wasn’t the Black Lake; this was an enclosed space. Where was she?
She didn’t have much time to think about it as she was losing air fast and needed to get out now. Reaching her hands up, she felt them break through the surface of the water, and she felt her right hand grab onto a ledge. Was she in a bathtub?
As she tried to pull herself out, she felt a pressure on her chest. Looking down, she saw hands pressing down on her chest, holding her down in the water. No, this couldn’t be happening. What was this? A dream? Was she dreaming about drowning while actually drowning? No… this didn’t feel like a dream. This felt more like a memory. But why was she remembering this now? And why didn’t she have this memory before? This seemed like something she would remember.
Suddenly, Veronica could hear muffled yelling and the hands that were holding her down moved away quickly. She was pulled from the tub and coughed up all the water in her lungs, desperately trying to fill them with air. As she looked at her rescuer, she realized it was her maternal grandmother, who was looking back at her with tears in her eyes. Veronica wrapped her little arms around her grandmother’s neck as she was carried out of the bathroom and away from the argument that was taking place in the corridor. As her grandmother lay her down on her bed, she pulled out her wand.
While Veronica recognized the item now, she could feel her past self’s confusion as she stared at it in her grandmother’s hand. Of course! She hadn’t known about magic then; she might have been about 6 or 7 at the time. Her grandmother must have noticed her confusion too because she stroked her cheek softly and whispered, “don’t worry, my darling girl. You won’t remember any of this in the morning.” Before Veronica could question her, everything went black, but not before she heard her grandmother whisper “obliviate.”

background.
Sua banda favorita é The Rolling Stones.

The epic highs and lows of Hogwarts Quidditch snippet
All of my WIPS are taking me forever to finish because I recently got a new job so because of that heres a snippet of my Quidditch fic that’s apart of my cannon compliant series maybe we were born for this
[An extract from Quidditch moments that defined a sport, by Kennilworthy Whisp, Chapter 15: The next generations demand for attention]
Most young witches and wizards' first introduction to Quidditch is through school. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry prides itself on producing some of the best professional Quidditch players the world has ever seen. Over the years the young Quidditch teams of Hogwarts have gained nearly as much attention, coverage, bets and extremely loyal fans as any of the professional teams have. Fans up and down the country still wave their house colours proudly as they watch the next generation take to the sky, but it hasn't always been like this.
Back in the day only a few people still kept up to date with what was happening on the Hogwarts pitch, they said it was boring and undeveloped. They said that watching children play for bragging rights was no match for the professionals who played for their lives. But that all changed in 1976 when Hogwarts had their best season of Quidditch yet.
There were many things that made the years 1976 - 1977 go down in Quidditch history. In fact, if you ask, many people can remember the exact moment they decided to give in and start giving these kids the attention they deserved. From the record-breaking teams to all of the conspiracies on what exactly was happening off the pitch, everyone had their own reason to listen in as Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff competed in the final; everyone was on the edge of their seats when disaster struck.
August 1976
Dorcas Meadows had deliberately kept quiet when the green and silver CAPTAIN badge fell out of her letter and into her hand.
It's not like anyone would’ve been able to hear her anyways over the loud celebration that was happening for James Potter.
“CAPTAIN!!! CAPTAIN!!!! OH, YOU KNOW WE’RE WINNING THE CUP THIS YEAR!” Sirius yelled as he jumped up and down with glee.
Dorcas rolled her eyes as she watched the boys from the sofa. She hated it when her brother's stupid friends came over.
Nevertheless, both of her mothers still came round the kitchen table where the boys were sat and congratulated James on making captain. They kissed his cheek and patted his hair as they told him how proud they were and he wasn't even their kid!
Dorcas bit her tongue, she wouldn't let her unnecessary jealousy decide her gameplay.
The boys didn’t settle down for the rest of the morning. James Potter was clever, but he was like a puppy in many ways. When he got excited it was extremely hard for him to come down from his high, especially when he had Sirius Black egging him on.
She would’ve loved to be the one to deflate James Potter's ego at that moment, to jump up loudly and proclaim that he wasn’t the only skilled Quidditch player in the room, but if she did that she would be giving herself away. Maybe if she kept quiet James would let some of his plans slip, maybe they could take advantage of his puppy-like behavior for once.
She had expected him to shove his own badge in her face and do a song and dance about how much better Gryffindor was than Slytherin, but he didn’t. He caught her staring and locked their eyes with a knowing smirk that said, Gryffindor is finally winning the cup this year.
He couldn’t say it out loud. Rule number one of James and Dorcas’ friendship: No house slander or Quidditch talk off the pitch.
“Proud of me Meadows?” James boasted as he passed them on his way up to Remus’ room with the others.
Dorcas’ reply came out a lot more genuine than they intended, “Y’know what Potter? I actually am,” they smiled and held out their hand. “Well done.”
James gave a smile that matched theirs and upon taking her hand pulled her up from the sofa and into a hug.
Dorcas rolled their eyes but hugged back either way. She couldn’t wait to destroy him on the pitch.
The room could only be described as electric when all of the Hogwarts letters came during the McKinnon's annual summer party.
Marlene was not surprised to find her blue and bronze badge in her envelope, nor was she surprised when she saw Edgar Bones already pinning his black and yellow one to his shirt.
“Bit over the top don’t you think?” Marlene teased across the table to where Edgar was sat, sandwiched between Gideon and Fabian Prewett.
Edgar gave her a flashy smile, “I don’t think it’s over the top at all. Have to let everyone know whos winning the cup this year.”
Marlene had to laugh, “Oh I almost forgot,” she smirked. “Not everyone can get a cup during their first year as captain, can they?” Her smile grew as Edgars dropped. She shrugged, “I wish you the best of luck, you will truly need it after coming fourth last year.”
Beside her, Emmeline Vance hid her laughter with the book she was pretending to ignore everyone with.
Edgar saw her laugh and pointed a finger at her exclaiming, “You’re not allowed to laugh,”
Emmeline, who had clearly not been expecting to be brought into the conversation, went bright red, “Why aren’t I allowed to laugh?”
“Because you’re the reason why we lost so badly last year,” he replied.
At this, Fabian and Gideon began laughing hysterically.
Edgar slapped both of his mates on the arm, “I’m serious!” he protested. “Here,” he placed a piece of paper on the table in front of them. On the paper was a handwritten table, One of the headers being games I caught the snitch, and another being games Emmeline was there.
Marlene looked at Edgar with a raised eyebrow, Fabian and Gideon were yet to stop laughing. “What am I looking at?” she asked.
Edgar rolled his eyes as if it was obvious, “Every game that Emmeline wasn’t there, I didn’t catch the snitch.” He turned to talk to Emmeline directly. “And you were always at the library last year for your OWLs. You’re my lucky charm and you abandoned me!”
Now it was Marlene’s turn to roll her eyes, “Don’t be stupid. Emme isn’t even a Hufflepuff.”
“Don’t go against the facts, McKinnon.”
“This isn’t facts this is bullshit.”
“It’s a coincidence,” Fabian supplied. “Which is what we’ve been trying to tell him since the beginning of summer.”
“I can’t believe you actually made a table,” Gideon added, still laughing into his hands.
Edgar slapped Fabian's hand away when he went to take it, “I told you I would and it’s important. Leave it alone.”
Fabian's attempts didn’t stop but Gideon joined in and soon the three boys were in what could only be described as a cat fight, the table completely forgotten.
Marlene and Emmeline shared a glance. Boys, Marlene mouthed as Emmeline raised an eyebrow, smiling.
This Quidditch season seemed to be off to an interesting start already.
It is very unlikely that we will ever see such a great choice for captains as we did that year. James Potter, Dorcas Meadows, Marlene McKinnon, and Edgar Bones were truly a one-of-a-kind lineup. Not only were they four of the most accomplished players but this was only the tenth time in Hogwarts history where each captain played a different position on the pitch.
Expectations for the season were high from them alone. Edgar Bones had been a force to be reckoned with since his first game in ‘71. His ability to catch a snitch was unlike any other and this was not only his third year as Hufflepuffs captain but his last year at Hogwarts altogether. However, he was still lacking a cup as captain.
Although this was Potter and Meadows’ first year wearing the badge they were already two of Hogwarts finest; their commitment to the sport and, most importantly, the competition is what made every game they played so memorable. This was both their sixth year at school and fifth year on the team.
Despite being in the same academic year, Marlene McKinnon was a different story. This was her fourth year on the Ravenclaw team and second year as captain. After years of being underestimated by her own house, McKinnon proved them all wrong when she lead her team to victory in ‘76; a victory that she was certain to repeat, only this time she had everyone and their mothers betting on her.
After all, Marlene McKinnon has a rare gift. One that we may never see again.
Marlene could ride a broom before she could even walk, that's what her Mum always used to say. She could hold a beater's bat before a fork, cheer before she could talk, throw before she could crawl.
Even before she was herself, Marlene McKinnon could always play Quidditch. And damn did she know it.
It was her father who taught her how to play. She and Edgar would spend hours upon hours outside in their neighborhood park practicing their flying and catching skills. By the ages of 7 and 8, they had mastered every position and decided which one they wanted to play going forward.
While Edgar had amazing sight and felt a rush whenever he dove down to catch a snitch Marlene loved the feeling of adrenaline that she felt when she hit the blundgers as hard as she could and watch them go, always in exactly the direction that she wanted them to.
By the age of 9, she had it all planned out. She was going to go to Hogwarts, join the team as a beater her second year, and by her sixth year, she would be captain and lead her team to victory year after year. After school, it was straight to Kenmare Kestrels' summer camp where she would improve her skills and get to know her future teammates better. Of course, this summer would mostly be for fun as she was certain that she would’ve already been drafted by this point and set to join their team the following September.
Marlene would never allow her imagination to go beyond that point, didn't want to jinx anything.
She had become the captain of the Kenmare Kestrels 9 - 11s team at the age of 10. When she first told her dad he had lifted her high upon his shoulders and told everyone within a five-mile radiance that his eldest was going to become the best Quidditch player there ever was and everyone around them truly believed it. Marlene McKinnon was going to be great.

I’d like to know the goals, biggest achievements and favourite books of all four of your girls, please!
Thank you for asking my wonderful bestie (and sorry this took so long)💛💛💛
Goals:
Lizzie: Lizzie's greatest goal is - how could it be different - to be chosen for the English National Quidditch team and play for the World Cup, preferably winning it, too, of course. But even being picked out of the many, many formidable players out there would be the greatest honour she could imagine.
Ava: Ava wants nothing more than to rid the world of anything remotely to do with the Cursed Vaults and does everything in her power to do so - even if it might kill her.
Selene: Selene just longs to be free, to be able to do whatever crosses her mind without sparing convention and etiquette a single thought. Whether it is travelling the world on her hunt for adventure or raising the family business to unknown heights, she's up for it as long as it is her own choosing.
Carolyn: Caro is working hard towards becoming the greatest potioneer of her time. She wants to be recognised for her skills and the power of her mind. People should see she is more than a pretty face or reputable name and is destined to greater things than being married off and disappearing behind the closed doors of a gilded cage.
Biggest achievements:
Lizzie: Making a name for yourself in Wigtown when you play alongside and are being trained by a Parkin claiming the spotlight was no easy feat, but Lizzie managed to become the crowd's favourite with her bright attitude and loveable personality. Her impressive scoring record might have helped as well.
Ava: Ava is very proud of the reputation she built for herself among the ranks of curse breakers all over the world. Her knowledge of blood magic is so profound, she gets called to every remote expedition imaginable.
Selene: It's a hard tie between the book on detecting and countering dark magic she wrote, the immense growth of the family distillery after she took over from her grandparents and the impressive but also worryingly big collection of maybe not entirely legal artifacts she brought home from her travels over the years. Everybody has got to collect something, right?
Carolyn: Caro's favourite concoctions to brew are potions with a purpose. She developed an incredible skill at producing various poisons and can make a Veritaserum so strong a single drop suffices to coax the deepest and darkest secrets from anyone being unfortunate enough to drink it. But being the practical individual that she is, she'd consider the beautification potion she created her biggest achievement. She had it patented after Hogwarts and made a fortune of it in her own right.
Favourite books:
Lizzie: Always and forever Quidditch Throughout the Ages by Kennilworthy Whisp.
Ava: Ever since being a child, Ava was fascinated by any story revolving around King Arthur, Merlin and Morgaine Le Fay. She once came across a Muggle adaptation focusing on Morgaine and her story called The Mists of Avalon. It wasn't the most accurate one she's read but she keeps coming back to it.
Selene: A romantic adventurer at heart, Selene has read Treasure Island by fellow Scotsman Robert Louis Stevenson more times than she can count. Of course, such a book (by a Muggle nonetheless) was forbidden at her parents' place in Edinburgh, but she always looked forward to reading it again whenever she went back to her grandparents in the Highlands.
Carolyn: Pengar (meaning Money) by Swedish feminist author Victoria Benedictsson. Her grandmother and she loved discussing her critical view of the role of women in 19th century Sweden over a cup of coffee.
