City of Fear (1959)
"You could tell them it won't wipe out the whole city. There's not enough of it, it's not a bomb. However... it will contaminate entire farms, milk, butter, eggs; get carried into markets on meat and produce, into theatres and restaurants. Get carried around by people on their clothes, on their shoes, on insects and birds, and on children. Then you'll have to describe the symptoms to watch out for: hoarse coughing, heavy sweat, horrible retching. Then the blood begins to break down, then the cells. If you merely touch your skin, the watered blood just oozes out of your pores. Finally you haemorrhage internally - blood fills the lungs. I doubt if anyone could explain that calmly to three million people without touching off the worst panic in history."

The Parallax View (Alan J. Pakula, 1974)
Cast: Warren Beatty, Hume Cronyn, Paula Prentiss, William Daniels, Kelly Thordsen, Earl Hindman, William Joyce, Jim Davis, Kenneth Mars. Screenplay: David Giler, Lorenzo Semple Jr., based on a novel by Loren Singer. Cinematography: Gordon Willis. Production design: George Jenkins. Film editing: John W. Wheeler. Music: Michael Small.
This somewhat elliptical political paranoia thriller was a critical and commercial dud in its day, but time has been kinder to it than it has to more conventional films in its subgenre, such as Three Days of the Condor (Sydney Pollack, 1975), which looks rather slick and self-satisfied by comparison. The story, about a reporter's investigation of a shadowy company that seems to provide fall guys for political assassination, is framed by shots of a panel of judicial figures delivering their conclusion that the most recent assassination was the work of a "lone gunman." We think "Warren Commission" without hesitation. Although the main story is somewhat fragmented and the film occasionally seems rushed, there are some terrific action sequences and an overall feeling that the director and screenwriters are on to something real. The "downer" ending leaves us with that sinister panel floating in darkness, and although conspiracy theories are thicker than fleas these days, who doesn't think there might be one or two of them that have merit?

The Parallax View
The Parallax View [trailer]
An ambitious reporter gets in way-over-his-head trouble while investigating a senator's assassination which leads to a vast conspiracy involving a multinational corporation behind every event in the world's headlines.
Almost fifty years old, but still an excellent political thriller. Love the tense, long stretches with no or little dialogue.
That final set piece, the large, empty banquet room conveys a very cold and distant feeling and is highly memorable.
Seeing the chimp play Pong made me smile.

Comedy Movies of All Time and Funniest Films Ever
These classic comedies are still hilarious decades after they were first released, and they're the perfect way to introduce your kids to older films and icons. What makes a comedy a classic? Something that floats on the changing tides of time and taste, remaining relevant – and hilarious? It probably takes more than a football to the groin or a juiced-up fart on the audio track. We don’t have the answer, but with our Essential list of the best comedies ever made, we’re getting closer to laugh-out-loud enlightenment than humanly thought possible. We’re melting minds, splitting sides, and slapping knees here.
"An apple a day keeps the doctor away," right? Well, a laugh a day might help keep that nagging sense of total doom at bay. At least we can hope. In many ways, it’s vital for humans to laugh whenever we can, especially in times of crisis. What better option to induce laughter—a natural stress reliever, mind you—than a movie? A comedy classic is the best medicine for such moments.
That brings us to the best of the best. There are comedies coming out all the time. But to become great, you have to have a few things. Part of it is a little bit of time, to make sure the laughs weren't just in the moment. The next is a die-hard fan base that will keep the story alive. And the third part is a little bit of movie magic. Dark comedies, slapstick, rom coms... the best of their sub-genres all have it.
The list of comedy movies on DVD will deliver the best choices. These timeless classic bone ticklers will make your leisure extra special. In fact, the festivals with your friends and family will become memorable when these movies are on the watch list. A marathon of these funny movies on DVD will release your stress and help you indulge in good art.
