sorry this is so rough, i fell on my wrist and it’s hurting a bit so i’m trying to go easy. i had to get these ideas on paper though. cat john is of course inspired by @trans-arthur-lester ‘s art of him (hope that’s ok!)

The problem with Malevolent as a person with synesthesia is that there’s the King in Yellow, but then the names Lester, Kayne, Larson, and Kellen all just happen to be yellow to me too so I cannot tell the characters apart when I’m thinking about them

so I have a malevolent theory that I'm kind of... simultaneously "I've connected the dots" and "you haven't connected shit" about?? no idea if I'm onto something here but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it

I think John met Faroe in the dark world. I don't have like... substantial supporting evidence here, but there are a couple quotes I'd like to present

26, The Bedrock: "I deserve… I deserve to die." "No, you don't. Faroe wouldn't want that." "You don't know that." "I do."

27, The Roots: "my family isn't waiting for me" "you're so sure" "of course. you're not?" "I guess I hope otherwise

36, The Faith: they find the photo in daniel's house and John instantly recognizes it as faroe, then backtracks to say he assumes it's faroe

and an honourable mention for 31, The Nightmare, because there's enough foreshadowing in that ep that i feel it's worth bringing up: Kellen's "I hope you find your little girl"

so, again, this may be nothing! honestly i kind of hope it's nothing, especially after hearing more about john's time in the dark world, because I don't think John meeting faroe would likely be under good circumstances and even aside from that... the divorce arc of arthur finding out would be brutal. but... yeah. thoughts?

I love this theory! I thought of this as well back when John recognized Faroe's picture in Daniel's house, but I remember mentioning it in the Discord a while back and someone reminded me that Arthur identified what Faroe looks like with the music box he gets from the Trader in the Dreamlands. However, I still think it's a terrifyingly plausible theory! We could argue that John's, "Faroe wouldn't want that," is just John's speculation on what Faroe feels, but how much more MESSED UP would it be for John to have actually met Faroe in the Dark World? And it could serve as fuel as to why John is so ashamed to tell Arthur about his time in the Dark World. Did he hurt Faroe? Lash out at her? I know that would end their friendship in an instant. I have no doubts. It would obliterate it. So part of me hopes that it's just a theory and won't actually be true.

But another part of me finds it incredibly juicy.
