NHL Expansion Draft 2021: Full list of players available for Seattle Kraken
The NHL announced the protected lists for the 30 teams involved in the NHL Expansion Draft. (Vegas is exempt.) With the names of those protected come the guys who could be snatched up by the Seattle Kraken. There are a number of big names that have everyone trying to figure out just what general manager Ron Francis will do. Will he take Canadiens netminder, and future Hall of Famer, Carey Price and his hefty cap hit? Is Vladimir Tarasenko the sniper he needs or is his health a big question mark? There's also a number of guys who would fit in nicely but are free agents and the chances of signing them are not high (i.e. Alex Ovechkin). EXPANSION DRAFT: Date, time, rules & more for Seattle Kraken team selectionRegardless of what Francis, coach Dave Hakstrol and Co. end up doing, there's a good chance the Kraken will be a playoff contender in just their first season. For now, let the intrigue and the guessing WWRFD (that's: what will Ron Francis do?) begin. Here's a look at every player they can pick.

CANTLON: HARTFORD WOLF PACK DEFEAT BRIDGEPORT ISLANDERS
HARTFORD WOLF PACK DEFEAT BRIDGEPORT ISLANDERS By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings BRIDGEPORT, CT - After a rough start, where they showed resiliency, the Hartford Wolf Pack defeated the Bridgeport Islanders in a 5-4 come-from-behind win in a closed-to-the-public opening pre-season game for both teams. The Islanders built a 3-0 lead in the game's first 15 minutes as Jimmy Lambert, the nephew of one-time Bridgeport Sound Tiger and New Haven Nighthawks player Lane Lambert - now the Head Coach of the parent New York Islanders - garnered a goal and two assists. Next, former UCONN star Ruslan Iskhakov popped in a goal and added an assist. Then, top-end prospect William Dufour scored from fellow Memorial Cup-winning teammate Vincent Sevigny, born in Hartford and the son of ex-Wolf Pack Pierre Sevigny. Wolf Pack goalie Olof Lindbom surrendered four goals on 12 shots before being relieved by Dylan Garand as planned halfway through the period. HARTFORD WOLF PACK COMEBACK BEGINS Patrick Khordorenko started the comeback with their first goal on the power play, tallying a rebound of Lauri Pajuniemi's shot that Ken Appleby initially stopped. Then, Tim Theocharidis, skating on a training camp Professional Try-Out (PTO) contract, made it 3-2 off a crazy bounce that came off the backboards. The Pack's Alex Whelan scored an opportunistic goal into an open cage on the side of the net front pass from rookie Ryder Korczak to even then score. The Islanders regained the lead on a game-rare five-on-five tally when Lambert scored off a Hartford miscue. Pajuniemi registered his second contest point on the power play early in the third period. He converted on a pass from another rookie, Louka Henault. Then defenseman Blake Hillman, on a PTO for the second straight year, was the hero scoring with 5:10 left in regulation. He whistled his shot past Henrik Tikkanen to give the Pack the 5-4 lead that would be the final score. The two teams battle Friday night at Trinity College in Hartford at 6 PM. NOTES: The New York Rangers will likely make their final roster moves mid-week, and in turn, the Wolf Pack will send several down to their ECHL affiliates, the Jacksonville Icemen, for their training camp, which starts next week. The Pack received Swedish center Gustav Rydahl yesterday. He played last year for Färjestad BK (Sweden-SHL), where he registered 30 points in 44 games and earned one assist in four pre-season games with New York. Late yesterday, last season's captain, Jonny Brodzinski, was sent to the Wolf Pack, but he must first clear waivers. Other ex-Pack who were late NHL cuts on the waiver wire before heading to their AHL destinations include two to the Providence Bruins, Vinni Lettieri, and Keith Kinkaid. In addition, Jayson Megna was sent from the Colorado Avalanche to the Colorado Eagles, and Lias Andersson headed to the Ontario Reign from the Los Angeles Kings. BRIDGEPORT ISLANDERS SIGN FIVE The Bridgeport Islanders have been active this week as the parent club sent them five players - Andy Andreoff, Cole Bardreau, Dennis Cholowski, Arnaud Durandeau, and Parker Wotherspoon. His brother Tyler was sent down by the New Jersey Devils to the Utica Comets. All cleared waivers and were assigned to Bridgeport. They also signed two more players to one-year contracts, defenseman Mike Cornell and ex-Pack and Springfield, MA, area resident Paul Thompson. HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

Topps Project 70 Explained
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article is presented by:
Back in 1951, the New York Yankees were still on top, the Dodgers were in Brooklyn, the Giants roamed New York’s Polo Grounds, and fans could collect the first set of Topps playing cards at one cent for a pack of two.
Needless to say, a lot has changed the past 70 years, all of the above remain woven into the fabric of baseball. And much like last year’s Topps Project 2020, the trading card giant is giving artists the freedom to put their own stamp on traditional trading cards with Project70.
Coinciding with Topps’ anniversary of that first set, Project70 kicked off on Feb. 17. Topps tasked artists with “revisiting and reimagining 70 years of iconic baseball card designs,” according to the project’s microsite. The number of partnered artists increased from the 20 who worked on Project 2020 to an apropos 51, a callback to the year it all began. Whereas Project 2020 tasked its artists—most of whom return for this new venture—with creating unique iterations of celebrated rookie cards from the past, Project70 opens up the whole Topps catalogue to interpretation and amalgamation.
A Ronald Acuña Jr. card by Los Angeles-based, pop-surrealist artist Alex Pardee, for example, depicts the Atlanta Braves’ current young superstar with a cartoonish, sharp-toothed monster grin with the 1990 Topps (which released seven years before he was born) design as a base. Another, from Philadelphia-born artist Distortedd, models a 1982 Topps design with a cycloptic illustration of Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez cocking back to pitch while holding a chicken meal in his glove. Clearly, Project70 places a premium on artist freedom of interpretation.
Each of the artists will create 20 cards for Project 70, with new cards launching daily on Topps’ website that will be available for just 70 hours — the numbers 51 and 70 figure prominently all over the project. The print runs for each card are posted at the completion of each sales window. Cards are printed on premium 130pt thick glossy card stock and feature a holographic logo security feature on the back. Each is encased in a protective plastic case.
And what would modern card collecting be without special editions? Project70 has those too throughout each print run. Rainbow Foils are numbered up to 70, and each card has one Gold Frame printing. Artist Proof editions, numbered to 51, feature silver frame, are available for every card.
Each individual card on Topps’ site is listed for $19.99, with the option of purchasing a specific three-card bundle for $49.99 to save about $10. Artist Proof cards, featuring a silver frame, can be had for $99.99.
Once on the secondary market with sites such as eBay—where trading card sales grew 120 percent last year and were up 60 percent among baseball cards year of year—some cards explode in paid price. A Rainbow Foil, 1988 Topps-influenced Mookie Betts, from famed Los Angeles jeweler Ben Baller who previously contributed to Project 2020, fetched $36,900 on eBay.
Who Are The Topps Project70 Artists?
No name on the list of 51 jumps off the page quite like Snoop Dogg. The multi-platinum rapper and multi-hyphenate entertainment icon is not nearly as well known for his contributions to visual media as to music, but he already placed his stamp on Project70 with an Acuña design inspired by the 1954 set. His iteration looks distinctly more modern than the 67-year-old template.
Mixed martial arts fans will recognize Brittney Palmer, the longtime UFC octagon girl who doubles as a pop art painter. She already has graced Topps trading cards before thanks to her UFC role, but Project70 offers a creative outlet. Her first card for the project plants three-time American League MVP Alex Rodriguez, decked in Yankees pinstripes, on a 1980 design and fills the image with vibrant blue, purple and pink. A-Rod’s bat is a solid yellow decorated with shapes and lines.
Los Angeles-based graffiti pioneer Kelly “RISK” Graval appropriately selected former Dodgers catcher and Hall of Famer Mike Piazza for his first release. Taking direct inspiration from an actual Piazza card from the 1994 set—the first after he earned National League Rookie of the Year honors the year before—RISK filled the background with the full rainbow and made the slugger pop with yellows directly behind him. The team name was tweaked from the original bold print “DODGERS” to a more loosely-penned “LOS DODGERS,” a nod to the heavily Hispanic and Latino populace in L.A.

What are some of the most popular Project70 cards?
Pardee’s Acuña interpretation surpassed a 1955 set-themed illustration of San Diego Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. for the highest print run (14,825) when it was available from March 4-7. The Tatis card from Paris-based illustrator Ermsy was among the first batch available from Feb. 17-20 and printed 12,688 cards.
On eBay’s online secondary market, both cards typically sell for twice or better than its initial price. But that’s just for base set cards. The numbered-to-51 Artist Proof of the Tatis sold as high as $1,399.99 nearly a month after its Topps availability window closed. The Acuña sold for $799 a day after the 70-hour Topps buying period ended.
Three largest print runs as of April 1:
Alex Pardee’s 1990 Mike Trout at 25,182
Alex Pardee’s 1990 Ronald Acuña Jr. at 14,825
Ermsy’s 1955 Fernando Tatis Jr. at 12,688
Three lowest print runs as of April 1:
Solefly’s 1990 Albert Pujols at 1,831
Claw Money’s 2010 Tom Seaver at 2,203
Morning Breath’s 1971 Mariano Rivera at 2,203
Where can you buy Project70 cards?
The window to buy these cards closes fast. Bookmark Topps’ online store and check back regularly, especially if you want to land artist proofs. You can find the full archive to date on Topps.com. On the secondary market, head over to eBay to score the best of Project70.

Snoop Dogg, Futura, Ron English Among Artists In ‘Project70’ Series Throughout 2021, Launching Today
On the heels of its overwhelmingly successful Project 2020, Topps today unveiled the first cards in Project70, a new series which celebrates the 70th anniversary of the first Topps baseball set in a comprehensive program featuring 51 premier artists and designers from around the world each creating 20 cards of their own player and card year design choice. The set commemorates both the initial year of 1951 and the 70 years that it has produced baseball cards, with three new issues daily, each available for 70 hours. Similar to its Topps NOW and Project 2020 products, Topps will print only the number of each card ordered in that time frame.
The set features premium, thick trading cards encased in a protective plastic case, as well as several premium offerings. Each day’s new pieces are available at http://www.topps.com/project70.
The creators selected to participate comprise a diverse group that includes the likes of rap musician Snoop Dogg, graffiti artist Futura, pop artist Ron English, jeweler Ben Baller, painter Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins, comic and album artist Alex Pardee, sneaker artist The Shoe Surgeon, designer Sophia Chang and many more. Nineteen of the 20 artists from Project 2020, including Baller, Chang, Gregory Siff, Fucci, Mister Cartoon and others return for Project70.
In contrast to Project 2020, in which artists were assigned specific player cards to interpret, Project70 allows each creator to choose any player and card design from the last seven decades.
“Project70 is one of our most ambitious sets ever, celebrating 70 years of Topps baseball cards in a contemporary way,” said Jeff Heckman, Global Director of Ecommerce. “Giving these creators the freedom to select the players and designs they want to interpret as they see fit means we will have very different cards from these uniquely and diversely talented individuals.
“We can’t wait to see what their fertile minds will produce, and we know that collectors and baseball fans share that anticipation,” Heckman added.
In addition to the base units, Topps is randomly inserting a limited number of rainbow foil parallel cards, numbered to 70, plus a foil numbered 1/1 Gold Frame for each card, into print runs. Collectors who purchase all 20 cards from an artist will also receive a gold-stamped bonus print featuring all 20 Project70 cards from that artist.

Here are NHL expansion draft protected lists for Vegas Golden Knights
The 30 NHL teams not named the Vegas Golden Knights submitted their expansion draft protected lists on Saturday, and on Sunday those lists were released to the public.
Teams had the option of protecting seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie; or eight skaters and one goalie. Players with no-movement clauses had to be protected by teams, unless they agreed to waive them.
As a reminder: The Golden Knights have to draft at least 14 forwards, nie defensemen and three goalies. They get one player from each team. The value of the players they draft needs to be between 60 percent and 100 percent of the upper limit of the salary cap, meaning they need to take on some big contracts; but they’re not allowed to buy out any players that they select until next summer.
Oh, and there will of course be trades made with Vegas, in an attempt to get them to stay off certain exposed players – or with teams that want the Knights to select players and then ship them to them. It’s like money laundering, but with players!
As the Golden Knights passive aggressively put in on Saturday in a statement: “Vegas has indicated that they will give all 30 clubs every opportunity to keep their rosters intact if they’d like. This means that before the Golden Knights claim a player off a team’s unprotected list, McPhee and his staff are willing to negotiate deals so the other clubs do not lose a player they would otherwise like to keep.”
OK, so who is available? Here are the lists!

St Johnstone 2-5 Celtic
St Johnstone 2-5 Celtic
Substitute Moussa Dembele scored a hat-trick as Celtic came from behind to beat St Johnstone and go 27 points clear at the top of the Premiership. Liam Henderson’s goal for the visitors was cancelled out by Keith Watson’s header and David Wotherspoon’s effort went in off Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata. Dembele converted a controversial penalty to equalise and then fired the visitors ahead. And further…

Are you all caught up on the other three clan posts? Just in case, read Part 1 here, Part 2 here, and Part 3 here! While these might not be the biggest clans, they’re your clans, each one sent to me through this blog, or your Facebook comments. Let’s dive right in and learn a little about Scottish clan history.
Clan MacLea/Livingstone
Clan Motto: Cnoc Aingeil- Hill of Fire
Alternative Clan Motto: Ni mi e ma’s urrain dhomh- I shall do it if I can
Livingstone/MacLay tartan (old)
Modern Livingstone tartan
Livingstone is the anglicized version of MacLea and came from an area of Scotland.
The chief of the MacLea clan has been traditionally called the heir of Siant Moluag. Saint Moluag was a Scottish missionary who is credited with evangelizing to the Picts and may have been the first patron saint of Scotland. He is still the parton saint of Argyll.
They weren’t so awesome when it came to battles. They lost almost every one they participated in, usually with heavy losses that decimated their population. Their inability to hold land and numbers for a prolonged period of time may be why they were not officially recognized as a clan until 2003.
Clan MacLaren
Clan Motto: Creag an tuirc- The boar’s rock
Ancient
Modern
Hunting
They are said to be descended from the Fergud MacErc, the founder of the Dál Riate kingdom. Even if they weren’t, they still hold strong ties to the royal families of Scotland.
When the MacGregors and Campbells were driven from their lands in the 1500s, they settled in MacLaren lands. When the MacGregors began plundering MacLaren villages, the MacLarens asked the Campbells for help, as they continued to have a large number, but the Campbells refused unless the MacLarens pledged fealty to them.
They were very active in the Jacobite uprising of 1945, losing a large number as a result. They also fought at the infamous Battle of Culloden.
Kirkpatrick
Clan Motto: I make sure
They do not have a registered, nor an adopted tartan.
They are an armigerous Lowland clan, although the term is meant to be used loosely as they have never been recognized, and their name has been interchanged with Kilpatrick throughout history. They have also been septs of the Douglas and Colquhoun and they got their name from Saint Patrick.
Roger Kirkpatrick, the cousin of William Wallace and the cousin and attendant of Robert the Bruce. He saved Bruce several times and is credited for leading his men to overtake several castles from the English. After Bruce was crowned, he gifted the crest and motto to Kirkpatrick, which has since been adopted by the clan.
Clan MacInnes
Clan Motto: Ghift dhe agus an righ- By the grace of God and King
Regular
Hunting
Dress
MacMaster is a variant, as are dozens of other names, and were one of the first clans to settle in Scotland from Ireland. It is possible that these small sects fell under the Macinnes protection and were then adopted.
They were accomplished seamen, but moved off of the western coast towards Argyll when the viking raiders became too much for them to handle. Still, they could not escape the vikings and formed an alliance with other small clans known as “Siol Gillebride”, or the “Seed of the Servant of St. Bride”, under the leadership of a Celtic-Norse warrior named Somerled.
The last chief dies in the 14th century and in the 16th, the remaining members of the clan moved the Sleat in the Isle of Skye. They were adopted loosely into some larger clans, such as the Campbells and Mackinnons, and fought on both sides during the Jacobite uprising.
Clan Maxwell
Clan Motto: Reviresco- I grow strong again
Maxwell is another Lowland armigerous clan without a chief.
The name comes from “Maccus well”, a poor part of the River Tweed and an old Norse king Maccus.
The Lord John Maxwell was very Catholic and participated in the attempts to restore Mary Queen of Scots to the throne. It didn’t go well, but even after Mary was executed, John petitioned Spain for help in restoring Catholicism in Scotland…that didn’t go well either.
One of the last Maxwell Lords, William, was a proud Jacobite supporter. After he was captured in battle and imprisoned in the Tower of London, he escaped in such a move way. His wife dressed him up as a servant woman and they just walked right out of there and into Rome like a boss.
Actual historical footage of William’s escape
The Malcolm/MacCallum Clan
Clan Motto: In Ardua Tendit- He aims at difficult things
The MacCallums were a separate clan until the 18th century when the MacCallum chief inherited the Malcolm estate, uniting the clans. MacCallum comes from the Gaelic “Mac Ghille Chaluim”, which means, “son of the disciple of Columba”.
The clan largely stayed out of large wars and battles, only participating in small skirmishes between clans.
Book readers will recognize a variant of this name ;) BTW here’s a gif of our fav man with Malcolm in his name…
yes, please
The Hay Clan
Clan Motto: Serva Jugum- Keep the Yoke
War Cry: A Hay! A Hay!
Dress
Regular
The Hay clan came from Normandy, with the original name of Haye. They settles throughout Scotland.
They were staunch Catholics and fought Protestant rule throughout history, constantly trying to overthrow Queen Elizabeth with Spain’s help and even trying to convert King Edward I. There were even Hays involved in the Hundred Year’s War under Joan of Arc.
They supported the Jacobites in both rebellions, but became loyal British citizens when they failed.
Clan Rose
Clan Motto: Constant and True
modern
ancient hunting
modern hunting
modern dress
Unrelated to Clan Ross, they came from the de Bisset and the de Bosco families of Ros Normandy.
They were very politically savvy. They expanded their lands through good marriages and royal favor. They were very close to Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. It’s said that her own son, King James VI, thought of Hugh Rose, the chief, as a father. But the clan was split during the Jacobite rebellions. Since many of them supported the British, they didn’t have many issues after the rebellion ended.
Kilravock castle housed the chiefs of Clan Rose from the 13th century until 2012, when it was gifted to a Christian group.
Clan MacQuarrie
Clan Motto: An T-arm Breac Dearg- The Red Tartaned Army (Also used as a war cry)
Clan Motto #2: Turris fortis mihi Deus- God is to me a tower of strength
They are one of the oldest of the Highland clans and are descended from both the kings of the Picts and the Dál Riata. In fact, they can be traced back to Kenneth MacAlpine, who was the first King of Scotland.
They owned many islands in the Scottish Hebrides and had powerful allies in Clan MacLean.
Since they don’t have an active chief, and haven’t since the 1700s, they’re technically an armigerous clan. The last chief had crazy debts and sold off a bunch of clan lands, then joined the British army. So if you’re a part of this clan and want to do some digging, see if you’re in the line and can prove a direct link back to a former chief. This Clan is too interesting to let go on without a chief.
BTW here’s a pic of Taran MacQuarrie, the leader of the Watch, who was hanged at Wentworth Prison. He wasn’t in the books, but was created for the TV series.
The Erskine Clan
Clan Motto: Decori decus addit avito- He adds honour to that of his ancestors
They got their name from an area called Erskine, which may mean “green rising ground” in ancient British.
They were very politically influential. Great supporters of the Bruce clan, they intermarried, gained great favor, and many Erskkine leaders were given political power within the cabinet when Robert the Bruce was named king. They also had a great hand in putting Robert II, Robert the Bruce’s grandson, on the Scottish throne. That means they basically created the Stewart line of succession.
John Erskine, the leader of the clan during the Jacobite rebellion was known for changing his alliances like the wind, to keep his clan in favor of the winning side. At one point, he went to London, where he felt slighted by the English king. So John was all all “F*ck them!” and went home and immediately raised an army for the Jacobites.
It’s said that John Erskine now haunts Culross Palace, an old holding of his BFF the Bruce Clan. The palace, and the surrounding area, was used for shooting locations for Outlander. This includes Geillis’s parlor, the village of Crainsmure, and the herb garden the two time traveling women meet.
inside the palace
the exterior (which was repainted grey and white for filming)
The Hunter Clan
Clan Motto: Cursum Pericio- I have completed the course
The Hunters are of viking stock. They came with Rollo to Paris in 896 and stayed on in the area, following the powerful nobles of Normandy, but went to Scotland with King David I in the 1100s, where they finally settled.
The Hunters were largely gifted their land and didn’t participate in cattle raiding and the usual clan skirmishes. They were appointed the keepers of the royal forest, and this duty kept them fairly busy. They also didn’t participate in larger battles and many of their leaders ended up well educated.
Hunterston Castle has been the clan’s seat for over 800 years. Finally, a clan that holds on to their castles!
Clan MacEwen/Ewen
Clan Motto: Reviresco- I grow strong again
There are five MacEwen septs and two of them are under Campbell and MacDougall leadership. Their tartan is even very similar to that of Clan Campbell.
Because they were so divided, the clan was chiefless for a number of years, making it an armigerous clan. But a chief was selected in 2016, the first since 1493, so that may change in the near future.
Names asked for, but lacking strong Scottish clan presences outside of being a sept: Wotherspoon, Miller, McHugh (Irish clan), Brennen (Irish Clan), McMahon (Irish Clan), McCole (mainly Irish), Harvey (members of Clan Keith), McCracken (sept of the Macnaghten), Mackie, Gates, Nichols (sometimes associated with Clan MacLeod), Aitken, and Oliver…all awesome names! If your name was one of those listed, and you’d like to privately discuss your name and get some history, let me know and I’ll be sure to tell you what I have!
That’s all for today, and my list! If there’s enough interest, I’ll do another post, so don’t be afraid to post your clan name in the comments for me to review. And read all of our Outlander posts here!
And see who’s hot for teacher in Sarah’s contemporary romance series here and learn about Kelsey’s contemporary and Scottish historical romance series here!

CANTLON: ISLANDERS KNOCK OFF PACK
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings BRIDGEPORT, CT - Kyle MacLean's late, controversial goal gave The Bridgeport Islanders a 4-3 win over the visiting Hartford Wolf Pack. MacLean's shot went in-and-out of the net incredibly quickly, which the referee ruled a goal. The play was set up by a Hunter Skinner turnover. MacLean's shot came from twenty feet out and hit the post. After a lengthy review, the refs stood by their goal call with 24.1 left to play. That was not the only call of the game that came without controversy. On the entry into the zone on the game-winner, Arnaud Durandeau had Austin Czarnik with him. The play looked to be offside. There was a collision at center ice just seconds before between the Islanders' Robin Salo and the Pack's Jonny Brodzinski. There was, what appeared to be, an obvious trip of Anthony Bitetto by Richard Pánik inside the Islanders' blue line with the puck on the other side. There was also an icing that was waved off. REFEREE MISTAKES ARE COSTLY "There were mistakes, but I'm saying nothing about the officiating. I'm not going to hang this on (Skinner's clear). It could have been better, but several blown coverages were starting with where they scored the goal. It was a good call. They can look at offsides too." There was a moment when it looked as if the team would salvage a road point. Lauri Pajuniemi was able to wrestle the puck away from Bridgeport captain Seth Helgeson. They transitioned quickly into a two-on-one with Ty Ronning against Parker Wotherspoon, the one player between them. Pajuniemi used Ronning as a decoy, who was wide open on the right-wing. Pajuniemi sniped a shot high to the blocker side with 3:51 left. Braden Schneider made the whole play possible as he got the puck in play after taking it from two Islanders, Reece Newkirk and Blade Jenkins. "All around a good play. Lauri is figuring it out. The youngster made an NHL shot and decision." SECOND PERIOD In the second period, Hartford showed the effects of having played their third game in three days, going the first eight minutes of the period with no shots on goal. The Islanders tied it early when Durandeau was wide open on the right-wing off a two-on-one. He snapped a wrister high to the blocker side for the second goal at 1:56 to regain the lead. It was a reasonable road period in the first; the second half belonged to the Wolf Pack. Zac Jones made an intelligent read-and-react in the neutral zone on a play to intercept a pass meant for Simon Holmstrom. He caught Tanner Fritz down low, then went to the right side and sent a low shot to the net on Jakub Skarek. The puck eluded him and hit the post. Johnny-On-The-Spot to clean up the garbage was Cristiano DiCiacinto, who scored his second goal late with 2:02 left following a Morgan Barron miss off a two-on-one break. KNOBLAUCH ON JONES "Zac is another one making the smart plays. He puts himself into position, and Keith (Kincaid) plays very solidly and steadily. I wished we had given him more of the support that he deserves in the net. Another smart play from Jones. Fritz's shot and Cristiano…some guys walk past an opportunity, he didn't." Pack Head Coach Kris Knoblauch said. The first half of the game was all Bridgeport. Otto Koivula scored the first goal from Anatoli Golyshev, their leading scorer. He had three good chances all stopped, but this Koivula shot beat Kinkaid low to the glove side at 3:31. He has a team-leading ten points. LINES Gettinger-Brodzinski-Greco Barron-Ronning- Pajuniemi Fritz-Richards-Ronning Labrie-Whalen- DiCiacinto Bitetto-Robertson Jones-Schneider Reunanen-Skinner Kinkaid Huska SCRATCHES Guitarri Taylor Rueschoff Khordorenko (concussion) Wall NOTES Ryan Reaves was taken off IR by the Rangers, so Gregg McKegg was reassigned to Hartford. Filip Chytil is down with an injury. He arrived late from Calgary was not available to play because he is still with the Rangers in Calgary. A recall now isn't likely. The Rangers are back home on Monday night. Ex Wolf Pack Ryan Dmowski (Old Lyme/ Gunnery) was recalled by the Hershey Bears from the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). No word yet regarding potential disciplinary action against Cam Lee of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for his hit on Patrick Khordorenko Saturday night. UCONN NEWS UCONN continues with a conference sweep of Maine in another one-goal game 3-2 in overtime. Defenseman Harrison Rees, a second-pair d-man, had two goals. The second came with twenty seconds left in the three-on-three extra session. Rees was tied with the second most shots for the Huskies at five. Tied for first in shots scoring in the last minute of regulation in the first was reliable Ryan Tverberg, who had six. Donovan Villaneuva-Houle got both Black Bear goals. Victor Ostman had 39 saves for Maine, while Darion Hanson had 21 for UCONN. BIRTHDAY WISHES FOR THE AHL The AHL's official 85th birthday was on Sunday. The first four teams were the Buffalo Bisons, who lasted eleven games, the Syracuse Stars, the first edition of the Cleveland Barons who won a Calder Cup a few years later, the Philadelphia Ramblers, and the Pittsburgh Hornets. When the International moniker was dropped (IAHL), the Hershey Bears, New Haven Eagles, and Springfield Indians franchises were added. The newest team, number 32, is in the Coachella Valley in the California desert. The Firebirds have a great logo and will debut next year. They are currently constructing a 250-million-dollar arena. The first two hockey employees of the new team are likely to be Dan Bylsma, who is now the Charlotte Checkers assistant coach and is listed as the Director of Hockey Operations will be ex-Springfield Falcon, Troy Bodie, the son-in-law of Seattle part-owner/CEO Tod Leiweke. After one game with the Florida Panthers (NHL), Chase Priskie (QU) returned to the Charlotte Checkers. BOY OH BOYKO Talyn Boyko, one of two 6'8 goalie prospects. Hugo Ollas of Merrimack (HE) is the other. Boyko was drafted in the fourth round (92nd overall) by the New York Rangers last year. The Tri-City (WA) Americans traded him after a poor start this season. In eight games, Boyko has a 1-6-1 record with a 4.49 GAA and .887 save percentage. In three years, his stats are on the low side. He has a 15-31-2-2 record with a .888 save percentage. He was sent over to the Kelowna (BC) Rockets for Cole Tisdale, another goalie. Tisdale has a 5-1-1 record with a .927 save percentage and a 1.839 GAA. He was a 2022 third-round WHL Prospects selection in the late spring. Boyko's first game for the Rockets is a home game at the end of a homestand this Wednesday against the Kamloops Blazers. They feature another Ranger goalie prospect and WJC candidate, ex-Pack Dyland Garand. After 15 games, ex-Pack Devin DiDiomete is released by the HC Meran/Merano Eagles (AlpsHL). Joey Muldowney, a forward at Nichols School (MAPREP) and from the Buffalo area, made a 2023-23 commit to the University of Connecticut (HE). HARTFORD WOLF PACK HOME Read the full article

The Wolf Pack will have the normal fluid roster for this time of year. Four more players from the team's NHL affiliate, the New York Rangers, will join six others who've already been sent to Hartford. On Friday, the Rangers sent three defensemen, Brandon Crawley, who enters the last season of an entry-level contract, a third-year pro, Darren Raddysh, who was acquired last season from the Rockford Ice Hogs (Chicago Black Hawks) for Peter Holland, who is entering the last season of his original entry-level deal. Also, Vincent LoVerde, who was signed as an off-season free agent who played with Toronto last season as the assistant captain for the Marlies. For two years in Ontario, LoVerde was their captain when they were in the ECHL. He played three years for Manchester, NH and was the captain on their last AHL Monarchs team that won the Calder Cup. The lone forward is Jake Elmer. He played five games at the end of the year last season for the Wolf Pack adding two goals and four points after completing his junior career with Lethbridge (WHL) where he had had 39 goals and 81 points in 68 games. Five other players were sent down at the beginning of the week. Two of the five players were goalies. AHL veteran Tom McCollum was signed in the off-season and was also a Rangers' training camp invitee. Francois Brassard, from Carleton University (OUAA), was the other. The other three reassigned are forwards. They are right-winger, Ville Meskanen, who showed flashes of promise in his rookie camp. Matt Beleskey was one of his linemates for a majority of last season. Second-year pro center, Ty Ronning, was dispatched and split last season between Maine and Hartford. The third is winger is none other than veteran Ryan Gropp, who played better in the second half of last season after being sent to Maine in November last season. Gropp is entering the last season of his entry-level contract and being sent back to Hartford so early is certainly not a good sign. Belesky was the first player reassigned and not invited to Rangers camp. He enters the last season of a four-year, NHL, one-way deal that was originally signed with the Boston Bruins. Beleskey gets $1.9 million with the Bruins picking up half of his salary. His cap-friendly deal gives the Rangers just an $825K cap hit for this season. Beleskey had to go through waivers first on Friday, the day before Wolf Pack camp opens, in order to be formally assigned. Defenseman Sean Day had off-season hip surgery. He will be in residence for a period of time that has yet to be determined. He has been skating, but still is in a no-contact red jersey. New Russian defenseman, Yegor Rykov, had an ankle injury in Traverse City but has healed and is back on skates. Another defenseman from Finland, a fourth-round draft pick, Tarmo Reunanen, who signed an entry-level deal, is going to be returned at the end of training camp to his Finnish club Lukko Rauma (Finland-FEL) for the season. That move will allow him to be with the Wolf Pack at the end of 2019-20 season and hopefully for the post-season as well. The Wolf Pack first preseason game is in Danbury against Springfield this coming Wednesday night. NOTES: Incredible how time flies. On Friday, defenseman, Dan Girardi, 35, announced his retirement from professional hockey. It seems like yesterday he was walking on with an ECHL deal only for the then, Charlotte Checkers in the Coast League. He played about a month before he came to Hartford. Then played a season and a half in Hartford before a recall to the Rangers and never came back. He played 927 NHL games between New York and Tampa Bay with 56 goals 208 assists 264 points and a plus-78 rating. He helped the Rangers to a division title, a President’s Trophy and a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2014. He has the most block shots since the NHL added the stat in 2005-06 and stopped 1,954. He played in the NHL playoffs in 12-of-his-13 pro seasons and had 788 games with Rangers. “On behalf of the entire Rangers organization, I want to congratulate Dan on an outstanding NHL career,” Rangers Senior Advisor to the Owner and Alternate Governor Glen Sather said. “Dan was the ultimate warrior. From the moment he joined the Rangers, he gave his heart and soul to his teammates, the organization, and the fans. Dan’s relentless effort and dedication to the Rangers was an inspiration to everyone..” Former Hartford Courant writer Bruce Berlet who covered the Wolf Pack for eight years and the NHL Whalers was effusive in his praise. “Amazing this "walk-on" played 13 years in the NHL, but it shows just what a hard-trier and great team player that he was. He is one of my all-time favorite Wolf Pack/Rangers players that I ever dealt with for just that reason and because he was so professional and classy with how he handled himself.” The Rangers finally got ex-Pack, Tony DeAngelo, under contract becoming the last player (RFA) to sign with the Rangers. This will allow promising, but not yet ready righty shooting rookie rearguard Joey Keane to be assigned to Hartford in the very near future. In fact, expect a slew of players to be assigned by Sunday/Monday to Hartford as the Rangers and all of the NHL teams work toward their CBA required 23 players permitted. Good news is neither the NHL or NHLPLA will reopen the CBA, so the current CBA will run its course until 2022. That means the NHL will be sending players to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers open their camp as well-received, ex-Pack, Ryan Bourque, who signed his AHL deal, Colin McDonald (Wethersfield), Connor Doherty (Sacred Heart University-AHA), Parker Wotherspoon, and AHL vets Ben Thomson, and Steve Bernier, Kyle Thomas and among the first signees of the Danbury Hat Tricks (FHL) Dustin Jesseau. Former Wolf Pack defensemen, Hubert Labrie, and Mark Kastelic, and the son of a former Whaler, Ed Kastelic, were assigned to the Belleville Senators camp. Many ex-Pack players were sent to their respective AHL camps from their NHL parent teams; Rob O’Gara (San Antonio), Dustin Tokarski (Wilkes Barre/Scranton), Chris McCarthy and Tommy Hughes (Hershey) while Shawn O’Donnell and Matt Register were both cuts from Minnesota’s camp earlier in the week. Former Sound Tigers include Casey Bailey (Hershey), Dyson Stevenson (Utica), and Eamon MacAdam (Binghamton). Goalie Beau Starrett (Selects Academy at South Kent Prep) was assigned to Bakersfield. Sons of players also were sent to the AHL include Nolan Stevens, the son of ex-Hartford Whaler, John Stevens, is in San Antonio. Brad Malone, the nephew of ex-Whaler Greg Malone and the cousin of former Pack Ryan Malone, is in Bakersfield. Mitch Eliot, the son of former New Haven Nighthawk, Daren Eliot, is in Utica while Luke Esposito (Greenwich/Brunswick Prep), the nephew of Rangers great, Mark Messier, is in Bakersfield. Mason Primeau, the nephew of former Whaler, Keith Primeau, was sent back to North Bay (OHL). In the ECHL, former Wolf Pack, Alex Krushelnyski, the son of former Ranger Mike Krushelnyski, signs with Indy (ECHL). Mitch Jones, the son of former Nighthawk and Ottawa Senator, Brad Jones, signs with Jacksonville (ECHL). River Rymsha, the son of former Nighthawk, Andrew Rymsha, finished his NCAA career with Miami (OH) (NCHC) and earns a degree from Dartmouth, has signed with the Norfolk Admirals (ECHL). The team’s former head coach was Robbie Ftorek, a former player and head coach of the Nighthawks, and also a former Norfolk assistant coach in former Whalers goalie, Peter Sidorkiewicz, both of whom were let go this summer. Ex-Pack goalie, Charles Williams, is in Rockford’s camp and has a deal with Indy (ECHL). Peter Quenneville, a former QU Bobcat, is in Tucson’s camp and has an ECHL deal with Rapids City. Jake Marchment, the nephew of ex-Whaler Bryan Marchment, signs with the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL). Billy Exall, of the two-time defending national champions, the University Minnesota-Duluth (NCHC) signs with Rockford (AHL). That makes 210 collegians to sign pro deals and 280 collegians overall. Nick Capone (East Haven/Salisbury Prep) will play with the Tri-City Storm (USHL) this season. He also de-committed from the University of Maine Black Bears (HE) and will skate for the UCONN Huskies (HE) in 2020-21. Read the full article

CANTLON: (SAT) SOUND TIGERS CLIP WOLF PACK IN OT
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings BRIDGEPORT, CT - Sporting one of the stronger home records in the AHL, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers got a goal from Otto Koivula with 6.9 seconds left in overtime to lift them to a 4-3 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack. Koivula had two glorious chances on the same type of play, a rush off the right wing. The Pack, however, saw netminder, Brandon Halverson, stop the first one, but he lost control of the puck on the second shot, but the third time was the charm for the Sound Tigers as Koivula took a pass from Chris Bourque, the ex-Pack, and came from the left wing side to score the game winner. The Pack deserved a better fate after having played a fairly solid road game in a building that has seemed to have a hex on them and other teams in the AHL. “This place is tough for a lot of teams in the AHL, but I thought for large chunks of time, we controlled play. We got off to a good start, but we just had those lapses and mismanagement of pucks that hurt us. That being said, I think the guys worked very hard and just didn’t get the reward for their efforts,” said Pack head coach, Keith McCambridge. The Wolf Pack erased the sting of a late Josh Ho-Sang second-period goal by scoring early and taking a one-goal lead. Steven Fogarty fed Ryan Lingren who took a shot from the left point which produced a strange rebound. The puck came right into the right wing circle where Tim Gettinger was there and able to pop his second goal in as many games into the net at the 17 seconds mark. For Gettinger, it was his 11th goal of the year. The Sound Tigers returned the favor and evened the game at three. In his first game on conditioning loan from the parent New York Islanders, Thomas Hickey received a tight pass along the blue line. He was being pressured and seemingly had little room to operate, but saw his 55-foot shot somehow get past a plethora of bodies and past Halverson at 3:20. “We have to do a better job defending that play,” said McCambridge. The Wolf Pack made quick use of open ice to take an early 2-1 lead in the second period. While playing four-on-four, Fogarty got the team off to a good start by winning the faceoff. Fogarty advanced the puck to defenseman, Sean Day, who in turn flipped it over to Lindgren. He launched a shot from the right point that Fogarty redirected while screening Christopher Gibson. The Sound Tigers netminder was also screened by a Bridgeport defenseman. For Fogarty, it was his 13th goal of the season and came just thirty seconds into the four-on-four. “I knew I had some room there," Fogarty said. "It was a good shot by Lindgren and I was able to get my stick on it.” The two teams combined for 25 shots in the period. The Pack got off to a good start getting three early on and two of those came off the stick of rookie, Lias Andersson. Bridgeport’s Travis St. Denis, the former QU Bobcat, was denied. John Gilmour followed as he calmly came along the upper right wing half wall and snared a loose puck. Gilmour sent it to Peter Holland, who in turn put a sharp angle shot on net. At 7:26, Halverson stopped Koivula and Steve Bernier attempts and then another by St. Denis. The Sound Tigers tied the game up late in the second period. Off a strong rush, Andersson had an open chance on the left wing side but missed the net completely. Sebastian Aho picked up the loose puck for the Sound Tigers and fed Andrew Ladd, who was playing in his first game since being assigned on a conditioning loan by the Islanders. Ladd sent a perfect lead pass for Ho-Sang who busted through the middle of the ice. Andersson was cruising back thru center ice and made a weak stick-check and watched as Ho-Sang barrel thru it and a Wolf Pack defenseman and straight on in on a breakaway. He cut from the left wing to the right wing side before beating Halverson on the forehand. The goal was Ho-Sang's third goal of the year. "You can’t let a player get through the neutral zone like that. A strong defense was needed there." McCambridge stated. After just five shots on goal between the two teams and many more missed shots, the Pack cashed in on their first power play in 40 seconds. Regular linemates Matt Beleskey fed Holland deep on the left wing. He quickly found Vinni Lettieri on the right point and zoomed in down the middle and buried Holland’s pass for his 16th of the season at 6:34. “That was a good solid play. We executed it quickly and Vinni has a good finishing touch,“ remarked McCambridge. The Sound Tigers evened the game as the Wolf Pack got caught in a bad line change on a neutral zone turnover. They never got set up in their own zone and the Sound Tigers defensive tandem of Parker Wotherspoon and Yanick Rathjeb did some point-to-point passing once in the Pack's zone. At 17:20, Rathjeb launched a shot from the right point that Ladd redirected from 15 feet out past Halverson, who was making his fourth straight start. SCRATCHES: Chris Bigras (right ankle, out at least a month) Ville Meskanen (lower body, day-to-day) Rob O’Gara (lower body) Ty Ronning (lower body injury from playing in Maine) Derek Pratt (healthy) Shawn St. Amant (healthy) Brandon Crawley (healthy) LINES: Fogarty-Gettinger-Gropp Holland-Beleskey-Butler Melanson-Lettieri-Leedahl Fontaine-Andersson-O’Donnell Gilmour-Lindgren Tolkinen-Hajak Day-Finn NOTES: The roster revolving door keeps up for the Wolf Pack. UCONN grad defenseman Derek Pratt was signed from Maine (ECHL) and wore jersey number two, Drew Melanson was recalled from the Mariners for his second tour of duty and switched to number 13. The latest roster addition comes in the form of another defenseman, Matt Finn from Florida. He also played four games for the Grand Rapids Griffins in an early action out of training camp tallying just a goal. Finn played for the Sound Tigers twice. He played in the first 33 games back 2015-16 and then two games the following season. He is donning jersey number 20. This year he has played 26 games with the Florida Everblades with nine goals, 18 points in 26 games. He arrived at 6 pm last night and just in time for the UCONN-BU game at the XL Center. He becomes the 37th player to play for the Wolf Pack and Sound Tigers. GM Chris Drury was not in attendance but was just up the road at the Yale-Colgate game at Ingalls Rink doing some scouting for future Wolf Pack players. Ex-Wolf Pack/CT Whale goalie, Cam Talbot, was traded straight up for Flyers goalie Anthony Stolarz by the Edmonton Oilers. The signing on the day before he was fired by former Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli, of former Sound Tiger goalie Mikko Koskinen to a three-year extension forced a move since the Oilers would have been over the cap limit. Stolarz played against the Wolf Pack in a rehab start two weeks ago at the XL Center. Sam Gagner, the son of ex-New Haven Nighthawk, Dave Gagner, who was just in here a week ago with Toronto, was traded by Vancouver who then loaned him to the Marlies to Edmonton for former Ranger Ryan Spooner. Former UCONN Husky, Jesse Schwartz, was loaned from Roanoke Valley (SPHL) to Brampton (ECHL). UCONN dropped a back-end of home with BU getting shutout 2-0. Maine beat Merrimack 4-2 and have gone back to being up eight on UCONN for the eighth and final playoff spot. PERSONAL NOTE: Its been a tough two weeks with the sudden loss of my middle brother, Kieran, who passed away at the way too young of an age of 56 yesterday. We also lost one of the better minor pro hockey fans in New Haven Nighthawks super-fan, Butch Gesner. A fixture at the New Haven Coliseum, Gesner loved the Nighthawks. He migrated when the Beast of New Haven folded and became the newborn Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2001. In the mid-1990s, when New Haven had no AHL team after the Senators left for PEI, he befriended Springfield Falcons GM, Bruce Landon, and went to many a Falcons games. Gesner recently sent me a very touching note about how my personal Facebook page posting of my game stories on the Wolf Pack and UCONN helped keep him in the hockey loop. Many knew Gesner, who was paralyzed from the neck down after a severe home accident, that he still maintained his joyful attitude. When cancer came calling, he met that challenge like a fierce forechecker. RIP you have earned it my friend. Our warmest and sincerest condolences to the Gesner family. (EDITOR'S NOTE: Howlings wouldn't be Howlings without the remarkable contributions of Gerry Cantlon. He has become family to us and we offer him our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Gerry and his entire family. May Kieran rest in peace...) Read the full article

As a reminder: The Golden Knights have to draft at least 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies.
As the Golden Knights passive aggressively put out Saturday in a statement: “Vegas has indicated that they will give all 30 clubs every opportunity to keep their rosters intact if they’d like. This means that before the Golden Knights claim a player off a team’s unprotected list, McPhee and his staff are willing to negotiate deals so the other clubs do not lose a player they would otherwise like to keep.”
OK, so who is available? Here are the lists!
