In This Quiet Kind of Love
Pairing: Paige Bueckers x Azzi Fudd Word Count: ~1.4k Genre: Fluff / Domestic / Established Relationship Summary: Paige and Azzi spend a quiet night in their shared apartment—post-practice aches, late-night pancakes, soft confessions, and the kind of love that doesn't need to shout. Warnings: None, just pure sapphic softness ✨
Author’s Note: i have so many feelings about soft, domestic paige x azzi… the kind of love that feels like a warm hoodie and pancakes at midnight 🥺 this is for anyone who loves slow dancing in the kitchen, whispered i love yous, and the quiet comfort of knowing you're with your person. also this is my first time writing a non x reader so let me know if you like it and if i should do more or never write one again....
It was one of those late autumn evenings where the chill in the air made the blankets on the couch feel like a luxury. The kind of night where practice lingered in your bones and the soreness somehow made the softness of home even more sacred. Inside the small off-campus apartment, the buzz of fluorescent gym lights had been replaced with the gentle golden glow of fairy lights strung haphazardly across the living room wall.
Paige was sprawled out on the couch, legs tangled in a fleece throw blanket, an ice pack strapped to her left knee. Her hair was still damp from the shower, curling a little at the ends. The TV was on, muted, something from the Food Network playing reruns in the background. Her eyes weren’t really on it, though.
She was watching Azzi instead.
Azzi stood barefoot in the kitchen, oversized UConn hoodie hanging off one shoulder, leggings hugging her in that way Paige always appreciated. Her curls were pulled back in a loose ponytail, a few strands escaping to frame her face. She was humming—something soft, something familiar—while stirring a mug of tea, completely unaware of the way Paige’s gaze was soaking her in like she was the only thing in the room worth looking at.
“Come here,” Paige called gently, voice rough from hours of yelling on the court.
Azzi turned, brow raised. “Tea’s not done yet.”
“I’m not asking for the tea.”
Azzi’s smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. She padded over without hesitation, mug forgotten for the moment. She curled up next to Paige, careful of her knee, tucking herself under the blanket like she’d done it a thousand times—because she had.
“Hi,” she whispered, nose brushing against Paige’s cheek.
Paige turned her head and kissed her—just a brush, soft and slow. “Hey.”
Azzi leaned her head on Paige’s shoulder, and for a moment, there was just the sound of their breathing, synced in that unconscious, intimate way people do when they’re completely in tune.
“How’s the knee?” Azzi murmured.
“Annoying,” Paige said. “It’s nothing bad, just sore. Coach is letting me go light tomorrow.”
Azzi nodded. She was quiet for a beat before threading their fingers together beneath the blanket. “I hate when you hurt.”
Paige smiled at the honesty. “I hate when you run into screens.”
“I don’t run into them, I fight through them.”
“Sure, babe. Face-first.”
Azzi laughed softly, bumping Paige’s shoulder. “You love it.”
“I love you,” Paige corrected, tilting her head to look at her. “That part is non-negotiable.”
Azzi’s eyes flickered, always a little caught off guard when Paige said it so plainly, like it wasn’t the most massive truth in the world. But it was. And it settled into her chest with a warm kind of weight.
“I love you too,” Azzi whispered, and then kissed her, a little longer this time.
It wasn’t the kind of kiss that tried to prove something. It was the kind that knew. Slow and steady, familiar and still brand-new in some ways. Paige’s hand came up to rest on Azzi’s cheek, thumb brushing along her jaw as they melted into each other like time had paused just for them.
When they pulled apart, Paige whispered, “You taste like honey.”
“Tea,” Azzi smiled, eyes soft. “You distracted me before I finished making it.”
“Finish it now,” Paige said. “I like watching you.”
Azzi rolled her eyes, grinning, but stood anyway and padded back to the kitchen. Paige’s gaze followed her like it was pulled by gravity.
Fifteen minutes later, they were curled up again—Paige’s head resting in Azzi’s lap, her fingers tracing lazy patterns on her girlfriend’s knee while Azzi sipped from her mug and read something on her iPad.
“Do you ever think about what comes next?” Paige asked suddenly, voice barely more than a murmur.
Azzi glanced down. “Next like... after college?”
“Yeah.” Paige kept tracing little figure eights, her thumb now sliding along Azzi’s shin. “Like… we’ll go pro, hopefully. You’ll get drafted. I’ll play wherever my knee holds up. But… what about us?”
Azzi blinked, setting her mug down. “Paige…”
“I don’t mean it in a bad way,” Paige said quickly, sitting up slightly. “I just mean—I think about it. About what it looks like. Not just ball. Us. Do we get a place together? Do we stay long distance if we get drafted to different cities? Do you get sick of me leaving cereal bowls in the sink and my socks in the couch cushions?”
Azzi was quiet for a moment. Then she smiled, slow and certain.
“I think we figure it out.”
Paige’s eyes softened. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Azzi said, brushing her fingers along Paige’s jaw. “I think I’d follow you anywhere. Not because I have to. Because I want to.”
Paige closed her eyes for a moment, taking that in.
“You’re gonna be a first-round pick,” Paige murmured. “You know that, right? You deserve everything. Big market, big contract. Starting five. Your name in lights.”
Azzi tilted her head. “And you think I’d be happy with all that if you weren’t in the picture?”
Paige blinked.
“I don’t need lights, Paige,” Azzi said softly. “I just need you. If we’re in the same city, that’s amazing. If we’re not, we’ll call, we’ll fly, we’ll make it work. But you don’t need to worry about me getting sick of you. I’m in this. All the way.”
Paige’s heart felt like it was doing something dramatic in her chest—flipping or swelling or maybe both.
She leaned forward, kissed Azzi again. This time with a little more weight behind it. A promise in the press of lips.
“I want to wake up next to you every day,” Paige said when they broke apart. “I want to cook you breakfast and argue over what movie to watch and do your laundry because you hate folding it.”
Azzi laughed, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. “God, I love you.”
Paige wrapped her arms around her and pulled her into her chest. They stayed like that for a long while—holding each other in the quiet, the only sounds the distant hum of the fridge and the muffled TV in the background.
Eventually, Azzi mumbled against Paige’s shirt, “Wanna make pancakes?”
“It’s midnight.”
Azzi leaned back with a smirk. “And I thought you were the bad influence.”
The kitchen smelled like butter and chocolate chips by the time they were halfway through making the second batch. Azzi stood at the stove, flipping with precise wrist movements. Paige danced around behind her to a song playing from her phone speaker, out of beat and ridiculous on purpose.
“You’re such a dork,” Azzi said, trying not to smile.
Paige twirled dramatically and kissed her cheek. “But I’m your dork.”
“Unfortunately.”
“You love it.”
Azzi couldn’t deny it. She was pretty sure she’d never loved anything more.
Later, after the dishes were (mostly) cleaned and their plates were licked clean, they curled back up in bed. Paige lay on her back, one arm under Azzi’s head, the other resting over her waist. Azzi had her face pressed to Paige’s shoulder, her hand resting just over Paige’s heart.
The room was quiet again. Their kind of quiet.
“Hey,” Paige whispered.
“Hmm?”
“You’re my favorite part of every day.”
Azzi looked up, sleepy and soft. “Same.”
“Promise me something?”
“Anything.”
“Wherever we end up… let’s keep doing this. Talking. Pancakes at midnight. Saying ‘I love you’ like it’s the first time and the hundredth.”
Azzi kissed her collarbone, then her neck, then her jaw.
“Promise.”
And that was enough.
Because some love stories didn’t need a big ending—they just needed quiet nights, shared blankets, sleepy kisses, and the absolute certainty that no matter what came next, they’d face it together.

Pairing: Hopkins Paige x Hopkins transfer Azzi
Friday, 5:28 Pm,
Azzi was driving to Caroline’s house, music buzzing through her car.
The anticipation spilling from a week waiting for the event, and some new feelings.
Her and Paige had hung out each day since then, getting drinks before school, or just sitting in their car after practice talking. They had bonded quickly, and perfectly. Paige was starting to tease less, still doing it often, but she seemed to clam down. She opened up a few times, about her past relationships, or her mom. Saying she’s had some confusion with a lot of things, like her sexuality.
That surprised Azzi, seeing as Paige was so open to admit she was gay. But truthfully, Paige hadn’t been in love with anyone ever, not even close to it. She really had always been treated like a man in the relationship, actually one of her exes even got confused when she mentioned having period cramps, genuinely forgetting she was a girl for a second. She broke up with her that same day, but still. She’d been unlucky with her picks, most of them being model types who didn’t want her, they wanted Paige Bueckers.
But Azzi saw through her right away, she saw the hurt that came with talking about this, Paige wanted to love, and she wanted to be loved the way she deserved.
Anyways, as Azzi pulled up to Carolines house, she felt the exciment bubble up again.
Shes always loved parties, the drinks, the people , the music. She felt like she could drop her “perfect kid” act there.
She got out of the car, It was a little early, but that was because her and Caroline had a plan for the night.
She got her bag, it being stuffed full of clothes, shoes, accessories and makeup. anything and everything.
She wanted to look good tonight, and she was going too.
**
“Hey Az!! Come in, my rooms to the right.” Caroline said warmly as she opened the door.
Azzi smiled and stepped in, “I’m so excited, its gonna take like 2 hours though,”
Caroline started walking towards her room, Azzi following, “yeahhh, but like. I’m in cosmetology school, I got this.”
Azzi shrugged, “Okay, if you say so. But I’m trusting you! I have to look hot tonight.”
Caroline stopped dead in her tracks at this, turning around to meet Azzis eyes, “and why is that?” She said crossing her arms,
Azzi shifted awkwardly, she needed to look good for Paige….but she couldn’t say that. “Umm, Just wanna post on my insta tonight, yknow.”
Caroline nodded slowly, clearly not believing her. “Okay, well then, lets start in the bathroom, ill wash your hair then get to blow drying it. K?”
Azzi nodded,
They walked into Caroline’s room, it was pretty big with a bathroom attached to it. Azzi placed her bag and phone down on the bed and saw Caroline’s outfit for the night already laid out on the bed. A small black dress, cute and simple.
“alrighttt, cmon.” Caroline said from the bathroom, setting up the blow dryer and hair straightener.
Azzi hadn’t ever had her hair straightened. Well, that she remembered, she had when she was around 4.
But she loved her curls, always opted to wear them to important events, but she wanted something new, something sexy for tonight. And what better than a surprise to do that? Only her and Caroline knew about the plan, and she offered to do it for Azzi. So now that her curls had grown out a lot and were healthy, she didn’t see the issue.
She walked into the bathroom, taking her hair down from the loose bun it was in.
“Also, we’re pregaming, that’s a statement not a question by the way.” Caroline said as she shoved a shot in Azzis hand.
“Oh, yeah for sure.” Azzi added, tilting her head back quickly with her shot. The excitement bursting now.
Caroline threw hers back aswell, clearly her throat burning, but she was just as excited.
Everything felt new, lighthearted, fun.
Caroline grabbed her phone from the counter and connected it to a speaker, blasting. I mean like volume almost on 100% the song “Guess” By Charli XCX and Billie Eilish, To which she started screaming the vulgar lyrics barely heard over the sheer audio ripping through everything.
“WERE GONNA GO DEAF!” Azzi shouted over the song,
Caroline took another shot, already having a party in her bathroom, “NAH!”
Azzi laughed, the sound for sure causing some hearing loss, then took another shot aswell.
***
After washing Azzis hair quickly, she sat on a chair Caroline had pulled into the bathroom, blow drying her hair.
“Woahhh, it’s so long Azzi.” Caroline said as she finished the first section,
Azzi watched her work in the mirror, “I know right? I’ve never seen it like this.”
Caroline was 3 shots in, but actually talented. She was working through Azzis hair quickly, and smoothly. Knowing exactly what to do without hurting or burning her.
The song blaring now was “Get it Sexy” To which they were both slightly buzzed and screaming.
***
After 4 more songs, 2 more shots, Caroline was done blow drying her hair.
“girl. You have the most hair I think ive ever seen.” She said looking in the mirror with Azzi.
Azzi chuckled, she was right.
Her hair was thrown in a side part, puffy from only being blow-dried, but still nearing her middle back.
“Yeah. We should probably get dressed and do makeup before we straighten it.” Azzi said, already getting up.
Caroline agreed, following her out to the bedroom,
They still had a good hour and a half till they had to be there. The party was starting at 8, but everyone knows to really get there at 9:30.
Azzi reached for her phone while Caroline started to change into her dress.
The normal notifications were there, likes, comments, followers, and Paige.
Paige 💜: Hey, you guys getting there at 9 or 9:30?
Azzi: Think 9:30, ur with Ice and KK right?
Paige 💜: Yea, there already drunk asf, well probably get there a lil earlier just fyi
Azzi: Caroline too lmfao, see ya soon 😉
Paige 💜: save the flirting for later pretty
Azzi: I’ll do what I feel like bueckers
Paige 💜: Fine bossy 🤷‍♀️
Azzi set down her phone with a smile, surely falling for Paige more and more, they didnt text like normal best friends for sure. Anyone would agree on that, expect for them.
Caroline finished putting on her dress, turning to Azzi. “How hot on a scale of 1-10?”
Azzi laughed over the music still blasting, she let out a whistle, “damn Caro, looking goooddd”
Caroline bit her lip suggestively, “Stop, your to much” She said turning around to show her butt.
Azzi laughed, moving towards her bag, “okay, okay. Help me now.”
Caroline moved towards her bag too, opening it up.
“We’re going for sexy right?” Caroline asked.
Azzi was busy throwing back another shot, but she nodded.
“Okay, thennnnn how about this?” She said pulling out a Burgundy tube top and black ripped jeans shorts.
“Perfect!!” Azzi agreed, and it was. The shirt is something she hasn’t worn yet, but it would look extremely good with her shorts and her long black hair. And you could see her new belly button piercing from the length of it. Or lack thereof.
Caroline nodded and started to go back to the bathroom, getting ready to do her makeup.
As Caroline was in the bathroom, azzi got changed, putting on the outfit along with just some nike blazers, thought it was simple, her body make it look perfect.
She looked in the mirror, she didn’t even look like herself. She looked grown up, and sexy.
“You done?” Caroline shouted from the bathroom,
“yea!!” Azzi replied, making her way to her,
***
After a bit, Caroline was done with both her and Azzis makeup, giving them both soft glam.
There outfits were simple, but the faces weren’t.
Azzis only gotten her makeup done at shoots, and most of the time, there just simple to to distract from the clothes or product. But because she was going to a party… Caroline had some fun.
She gave Azzi a simple glowly look, paired with some winged eyeliner and lashes. her black eyes looked hard, they looked alluring. they made her stand out for sure. and with the dark hair, now being straightened, it only added to the contrast.
“Azzi, you look like….really fucking hot right now.” Caroline said, looking at her finished makeup.
Azzi laughed, “Ya think?”
“Fuck yeah.” Caroline responded.
Azzi smiled and motioned for the straightener, the final thing for her look.
“Let’s start, we have like 40 mintues.” Azzi added.
Caroline agreed, turning the speaker back up, an now blasting “Gasonlina” at a volume that had to be heard by the whole neighborhood.
She started to section Azzis hair, while working through it with a brush.
Azzi grabbed her phone while Caroline was working, snapping half her face to ice.
Ice open the snap almost immediately, started to text her.
Ice 🧊: AZZII?? IS THAT U??
Azzi 👑: Lol, yes. Caroline did my makeup
Ice 🧊: damn girl, Paige is gonna pass out.
Azzi 👑: and what’s that supposed to mean 🤨
Ice 🧊: You know damn well what I mean, see you soon boo 😘
Azzi laughed it off, knowing the teasing from her teammates wouldn’t stop. Them always saying something about her and Paiges relationship.
Caroline was working quickly, while multitasking with dancing.
Azzi stared in the mirror watching her work, her hair was long and silky as each fresh peice dropped from the claw clip. She never felt hotter.
****
“alrighttttt!! We’re done! What do ya think?” Caroline asked, softly curling the last piece.
Azzi looked in the mirror, seeing the finished product.
She looked stunning.
She looked like a new person, the dark red of her top a contrast to the black eyes and black silky hair.
Her hair just looked perfect, it was longer than she thought it was, sprawling across her arms and ending around her rib cage. She looked flawless.
“I’m so hot.” Azzi muttered out, smiling slightly.
A grin spread across Caroline’s face, “hell yeah you are. Now cmon, we gotta go.” She said reminding her of the time.
It was 9:20 already, and they had to drive a good 15 mintues, getting there a lot later then they hoped, but it was worth it.
Before they left, Azzi turned off the main bathroom lights, the soft glow of light only coming from her bedroom, and took a picture with Caroline, posting it to her snap story.
“You like fucking mogged me Az,” Caroline said inspecting the picture,
Azzi laughed, “I did not!! You look great Car,”
Caroline rolled her eyes, “I know I do, but like you don’t even look like a person bro.”
Azzi smiled, feeling confident as ever, “Shush, I’m posting it.”
She posted the pic, tagging Caroline in it.
****
They were sat in the car, Azzi driving because of Caroline taking 4x more shots then her, a lot more then slightly buzzed.
Then Caroline spoke up over the soft music, “hey, ice just texted me.”
“yeah? What about?” Azzi asked, keeping her eyes on the road.
“She asked if you were trying to kill Paige tonight.” Caroline said grinning.
“Oh my god, she needs to stop with that, and so do you!” Azzi replied, sighing.
“Shes got a point, have you seen yourself? Paige already looks at you like you’re the only person in the world, and now….I mean. She might not make it past 12.” Caroline said looking at Azzi again.
Azzi drummed her fingers against the steering wheel, pretending like she isn’t hoping she’d have exact effect on Paige. “Yeah, yeah. Shush were almost there.”
****
They pull up to the house, if you can even call it that.
“Holy shit, this place is massive,” Caroline says, taking in the mansion,
She’s right, the house isn’t even near anyone else’s,it taking up so much space, all lit by lighting going up the massive pathway to the gorgeous house.
“Yeah, cmon we gotta hurry.” Azzi said, unbuckling her own seatbelt.
Caroline did the same, grabbing her phone.
***
Azzi checked her appearance again while waiting for someone to answer the door.
She looks good, the dim lighting making her even better.
“You still look smoking girl,” Caroline said, seeing the unease in Azzis eyes.
“I know, but yknow. I’m just….nervous.”
“For a certain someone to see you?” Caroline adds,
Azzi hesitates for a second, knowing she holding say anything. “Maybe..”
Caroline smirked knowingly, looking over Azzi, “Don’t, you should be excited.”
Just as she says this, the door swings open, revealing Ash at the door.
Ash is a little taken back, not even looking at Caroline, “wow…Azzi. You look amazing, really.”
Azzi smiles at her, though now that she knows more of how she treated Paige while they were dating, she really wants to sucker punch her, “Thanks Ash, you too.” She says warmly, ever polite.
“Come in, I’ll get you guys a drink.” Ash says backing up to make room for Azzi and Caroline, still glaring straight at Azzi.
Azzi can feel her intense stare on her, knowing the plans working, but it feels dirty.
She walks in, Caroline in front of her.
The party’s insane.
People everywhere around the massive house, music blaring, people doing shots left and right.
and its not just that, its who the people are.
Each person in there is some kind of famous, whether that be from having a dad in the NBA or a mom in the W. Or even being the talent themselves. all athletes, all in one space.
“CAROLINEEE!!!” A voice shouts from inside the living room,
Caroline looks over to the voice, the pathway extremely blocked by multiple 6 foot + guys standing there.
But eventually, ice pushed through them, meeting up with Caroline.
“Heyyy ice!” Caroline says hugging her,
Ice who was clearly wasted already, was just now noticing Azzi.
“GWAD DAMNNN AZZI” Ice loudly shouted taking in Azzis appearance.
She drunkenly stumbled into a hug on Azzi, “hey ice, nice to see you too.” Azzi said, petting her back Iike a drunk puppy,
Ice pulled away, grabbing her and Carolines hand, “Cmonn!! The whole teams here, lets get some drinks!”
Ice pulled them through the sea of people with a drunk ease, not caring for splitting in between people.
As she finally made her way to the to the group of their teammates, all jumping in a pit with a bunch of other people.
“Ice!? Where are they even.” Azzi shouted over the music, laughing a little because it was clear the group was not all together,
“Ummmm, In there?” Ice shouted, pointing at the dancing group of people.
As ice disappeared into the mob, the dim light and colorful strobes only lit by the djs set. It was basically a club, a very expensive one probably.
Caroline looked over to Azzi, “hey-im gonna go grab a drink, I’ll get you one too. a strong one. Just stay here.”
Caroline squeezed her hand once before heading off in attempts to find drinks,
As she stood alone, just watching the insane party she felt someone come up behind her.
A man appeared behind her— around 6’4, dark skin and an athletic build.
“Azzi? Is that you?” he asked,
Azzi turned around fully, meeting the mans eyes. Then she realized it wasn’t just some guy, it was a friend from a long time, Christian. Another player that Steph had taken under his wing, going to most of the camps Azzi did as a kid.
“Oh my gosh! Christian! Yeah, hi. How are you?” Azzi said reaching in for a hug,
“I’m great!! Im good, just here with my girlfreind, im still with Kendall, going on 5 years now.” He said smiling, you could almost see the love in his eyes while he talked about his girlfriend.
Azzi smiled at him warmly, happy to see an old friend doing well. “That’s crazy!! So great for you guys, I didn’t even know you were in Minnesota?”
He smiled, looking down at Azzi, “yeah, just here for a second, im actually of thinking of transferring, so I had some meetings here with a few schools, yknow trying to get my draft stock a little higher.”
Azzi shoved us arm fondly, “Christian-that’s so great. I’m glad to see you living out your dreams,”
Christian held her gaze for a second, seeing the genuine happiness Azzi felt for him, “Thank you Azzi, anyways. What about you? Happy late birthday by the way.”
“Thank you! yeah, i’ve been really good. Transferred over to Hopkins this year to play with Paige, and I verbally committed to UConn, so excited for that.” She replied,
Christian’s eyes lit up by the mention of Paige, “Paige, like the Paige Bueckers? That’s sick man, she’s a mini DT on the court for sure, yall must be deadly.”
Azzi smiled, now some love reflecting in her eyes, “yeah, she’s…..special to say the least. It’s been really great with her so far.” She said through an enormous smile, unable to contain her happiness when it comes to talking about Paige.
Cristian watched her, the way her eyes lit up, smile growing, “You guys like a thing? You’re pretty much blushing talking about her, dude.”
Azzi chuckled, “No, but you’d be surprised how many people think that.” She said shrugging, smile lingering still.
Christian nodded, but it was clear he didn’t believe her, “if you say so…anyways, I gotta go check on the wife. I’ll catch you again later, okay?”
Azzi offered him a smile again, “Yeah for sure! Tell her I said hi.”
****
But someone else was watching this interaction since her eyes first found Azzi.
Paige had been dancing with Kk and the rest of the team, drunk as ever, having a blast unexpectedly.
She spent most of the time getting ready pregaming, still putting some effort into her appearance though,
She had on a light grey crop top (if you could even call it that) that left out her whole toned stomach, along with low waisted black cargos. She put her blonde hair half up with two stands left out in the front, with a touch of mascara Ice had forced onto her.
But god, it didn’t even matter how she looked. Because as soon as she caught glimpse of Azzi, no one could ever pretty enough for her.
She was unreal, flipping Paiges whole world upside down.
Her hair straighten, her outfit, the way her makeup enchanted everything about her face, and her smile.
It was like she had seen the sun for the first time, the way her face shined, maybe she had.
But just as she was getting out of her Azzi-induced haze, her face flushed, she was going to walk over to her.
Before a guy beat her too it.
She didn’t know him, but he sure knew Azzi.
The way he hugged her, wrapping his arms around her waist just like Paige had done a few days ago sleeping next to her.
The way she lit up when she started talking about something to him, unsure of what she was saying because the music was too loud.
The way he returned the smile, looking down at her from his tall stance.
The way she touched his arm and laughed.
She was stupid.
Azzi wasn’t into her?
Azzi wasn’t into her.
This was why she never should have let herself fall for stupid Azzi in the first place.
ever should have trusted her with her issues, or with her honesty.
Because there Azzi was, talking to some guy, laughing with the guy, touching the guy.
Her heart felt like it was bursting.
She couldn’t do this, watch Azzi flirt with some guy.
So she did what she always has, ingnored her feelings and distracting herself with something else, or someone else.
A girl had been hitting on Paige all night, she was perfectly pretty, just looked average compared to Azzi though.
Still. She was there, a good distraction.
So when she asked if Paige wanted to get a drink with her, Paige agreed.
****
As Christian walked away, Azzi went to go find Caroline.
She ran into her while wandering,
“Caro! What took you so long?” Azzi asked,
Caroline tried to hide her panic, after seeing Paige fully flirting with another girl in the kitchen, “Uhh-um, just got a little lost, let’s go back out there!” She said shoving a drink into Azzis hand,
Azzi raised a brow at her, “You okay?”
Caroline nodded, a little too quickly. “Yes! Cmon!! Let’s party!” She said taking a sip of her own drink, which was must needed.
Azzi shrugged, not pushing anymore, and turned back to the dance floor.
*****
The night carried on, and with that, so did the drinks.
Alcohol was flowing in their syetms, the group lost in the music.
The lighting only getting more club like- the voices of a hundred teenagers shouting sounds and dancing.
The energy was electric.
But someone was still missing, Paige was still missing.
So while Caroline was drunk, grinding on some guy, Azzi pulled away from the group in hopes to find the blonde.
She stumbled slightly, the drinks hitting hard.
But still kept her focus.
She wandered around, checking her phone camera, thanking the gods she still looked perfect.
Then as she stumbled into a new room, the kitchen, her eyes scanned around.
Then she saw it.
Blonde hair she’d recognize anywhere, her back turned to Azzi.
She felt her heart flutter at just the sight of it, excited to see her favortie person.
Just as she started towards her, her eyes flickered to someone else.
A short girl, pretty, tanned skin and a slutty outfit on, leaving not much to the imagination.
But the thing was, she was way too close to Paige.
Leaning in on every word the blonde said, her finger grazing up and down the toned forearm of her person.
What the fuck? She thought.
Well, thought she kept in her head.
But from the way Paiges head snapped around, maybe she’d said it aloud.
No, she definitely said it aloud.
“Az!” Paige yelled at her, but it was too late. Azzi was already headed back towards to group.
Tears swelling in the brown eyes, but mostly, the searing hurt from seeing Paige with another girl.
Paige wasn’t hers, she reminded herself.
There was no reason for her to react like that.
But there was.
Cause she wanted Paige to be hers, wanted to be allowed to get jealous.
She wanted that more than anything.
***
“Who was that Paige?” The short girls said, clearly a little annoyed by the interruption.
Paige didn’t know what to feel.
But it sure didn’t feel good seeing Azzi like that. The hurt clear in her eyes.
Paige turned back around to the short girl.
“Someone a lot more important than you. Sorry.” She said already backing up to follow Azzi.
The short girl scoffed and yelled something, but Paige didn’t care to hear. her focus on finding Azzi.
But just as she was walking towards the main party, someone stopped her.
“Heyyy Paigey, were playing spin the bottle! You should come.” Ash slurred, waving a bottle of champagne in the air.
Paige barley glanced down at her, her eyes still looking for Azzi,
“No, im good.”
Ash shrugged, “okay, well if you wanna join the rest of us, we’ll be by the pool”
Paige didn’t care. “Yeah, maybe. I really gotta go.”
Ash gave her a puzzled look as Paige pushed back.
As Paige wandered away, Ash made her way outside, the circle of people already buzzing, some passing a joint around.
She walked into the middle placing the bottle down.
“Azzi! Caroline!! Come join!” Ash called out, seeing the group of girls on the patio,
*
“We can leave right now if you want.” Caroline said to Azzi.
Azzi looked at her, anger and sadness in her. “No, it’s fine.”
Azzi threw back another shot, then another. Already wasted, surely blacked out in a few mintues.
“Azzi! Your not, that’s okay. You also need to slow down, you’ve drank more than anyone here.” Caroline said, taking the other shot glass from her.
Azzi didn’t meet her eyes. To hurt to look at anyone yet. her head swirling.
“Cmon, let’s go play. It’ll be a good distraction, right?” Azzi slurred, waking towards the circle of people.
Caroline knew she shouldn’t give in, but Azzi was hurt. So she agreed, sitting down with her to play spin the bottle.
****
“ice!! Where’s Azzi?” Paige basically shouted to her wasted friend.
Ice looked over at her, “she’s out there with Ash and a group, probably bussing it down ifyaKnowWhatIMean” She slurred out,
Paige rolled her eyes, straightening up an heading towards the patio.
*
She walked out to see the group of people, even amount of girls and guys, all buzzing, some smoking.
The bottle in the middle.
Ash looked up at the blonde, “Paige!! You came! Come sit next to me, we’re about to start!!”
Paiges eyes barely noticed ash, immediately finding Azzi.
Azzi looked beautiful, but it was clear she was more than drunk.
She didnt even look at Paige, keeping her gaze on her phone.
Paige looked at Ash, “yeah. Sure.”
She moved towards Ash, sitting down right next to her, closer then she’d wanted.
Ash clapped her hands together. “Okay guys! Rules are simple, you spin the bottle, whoever it lands on, you kiss. No expectations.”
a few people cheered, some looked nervous.
But all Paige was looking at was Azzi, who still wasn’t looking at her.
**
Caroline nudged azzi, “You sure your good?”
Azzi finally looked up at her, “Yea. All good.” She staid unconvincingly.
Caroline pressed her lips in a tight line, nodding, then focusing back on the group.
A guy next to Ash took the first spin, it landing on a girl who seemed more then happy to kiss him.
They kissed for a few moments, people recorded and cheered, the music being turned up a little louder.
Normally Azzi would love this, the environment was great, it was fun. But not for her. The thought of Paige flirting with another girl was lingering in her mind, hurting her every time she thought about it.
Then another spin, two guys pecked each other, clearly uncomfortable with kissing each other, but it was met with laughter and fake gagging from them.
Then Caroline took her turn spinning the bottle,
Azzi smiled at her friend, the bottle landing on the same guy she was dancing with earlier,
Caroline shrugged, threw back a shot, and leaned into the kiss.
The guy did the same, clearly enjoying it a little too much.
Azzi cheered along with everyone else, finally feeling a little better. A little more alive.
Then Caroline pulled back form the guy with a wink.
He was left completely dazed, which was hilarious.
“Damn Car!” Azzi cheered and Caroline sat back down next to her.
Caroline smiled and nodded, “Just light work.”
Azzi laughed and focused back on the game.
Then Ash turned to her, “Azzi, you spin!!”
Azzi was starleted by the call out, but the group was more then ecstatic.
Guys pointing to themselves stupidly, clearing noticing Azzis appearance,
Ash leaned back smiling, watching the group go crazy over her.
But someone wasn’t cheering.
Paige was just watching her,
Watching the way she moved. Wishing she could pull her away from the group and talk. But she couldn’t do that.
Azzi leaned forward, spinning the bottle, feeling Paiges glare.
But she didn’t care. Who did Paige think she was?
Making her fall for her then going and flirting with a girl.
So when the bottle landed on Ash, she was more than happy.
The crowd erupted. Now the game drawing a crowd from the party inside to watch,
The screams got louder as Ash leaned forward, clearly excited.
People were going crazy, all waiting for the kiss.
*
Paige felt her stomach drop all the way to hell once the bottle landed.
Azzi had to kiss Ash.
And she was going to.
She could tell from the glint in Azzis eyes, she was planning something.
So when Azzi made her way over in front of Ash, stealing a wink to Paige.
Paige couldn’t do anything.
The cheering was loud, but it all seemed to go quiet.
She watched as Azzi leaned closer to Ash, grabbing her waist.
The sight was enough to make her want to throw up
*
Azzi leaned in, making sure to put on a show.
She needed to prove to page that what she did was shitty, and maybe make her feel a little shitty too.
Ash was red, clearly attracted to Azzi and loving the attention that came from the kiss.
So when their lips connected, Azzi took the lead.
Quickly depending the kiss, showing off her skills to everyone. Knowing Paige was watching only fueled her.
She kissed Ash deeper, causing the crowd to go insane, people whistling, guys watching intently.
Azzi didnt give a fuck about Ash, only kissing her because she knew it would make Paige look.
So when Ash started to kiss her deeper, she let it happen.
*
Paige watched as Azzi kissed her.
She felt something burning in her.
Didn’t even care that they were kissing.
Just felt the jealousy take over.
Azzi was hers, that moment made it clear.
She’d been hers since they met.
She’d been stupid to not make it happen that first night they spent together.
So when Ash tried to grab Azzis waist, Paige didn’t give a fuck who saw, she didn’t give a fuck about what Azzi would say.
She blinked out of her stillness, and grabbed Azzis arm, pulling her up breaking their kiss.
“what the fuck?” Ash called out, left siting with swollen lips.
Caroline watched it happen, in complete shock and amusement.
“Paige!” Azzi slurred, the grip Paige had on her wrist was tight.
She didn’t care, didn’t care that people were starring, putting together the pieces.
“We’re leaving Azzi. Even if I have to fucking carry you out of here.” Paige snapped back, locking her intense glare onto Azzis blurred brown one.
Azzi felt the words rip through her body with heat, Paige had never spoken to her like that before.
So she let herself be dragged through the house, the grip Paige had on her only getting tighter as they made there way through the drunk crowd.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
synopsis: baby, what’s meant for the streets will never be yours.
notes: based off hev abi’s song ‘para sa streets’ — made mainly because i wanted more paige angst on my feed . so like, give me my angst. might write a part two if this gets enough attention . the synopsis and overall theme is like a genuine LYRIC from the song btw. lastly. this is fiction guys this is completely NOT paige paige would never do this and i will not knock on wood three times when i say that because WE ALL KNOW PAIGE WOULD NEVER DO THIS. chill on me for a moment you guys ….
cw: once again, based off hev abi’s song ‘para sa streets’ so you KNOW it’s notorious player!paige, angst lowkey no comfort besides the fact that reader now hates paige’s guts, INFIDELITY + MENTIONS OF ORAL: paige gets head from a different girl, but i don’t write it explicitly because god forbid. lovers to exes. angsty, angsty, angsty. reader’s kinda a wuss. ignore the existence of curfews for this fic btw, thankies!

paige bueckers.
big name. legendary name, even, but on your tongue?
it burns.
everytime you have to say it, you have to stop yourself from clawing your tongue off, skinning it clean of the layer that said her name—because you hate it. hate her. hate her stupid smile that’s all teeth, her eyes that she knows are pretty, all her muscles that probably wouldn’t help much in the event she got herself pulled into a scream-esque horror movie. you hate her fucking fashion sense … and how she looks better with all her clothes off.
you hate her.
hate how she lies through those teeth, through that smile, so easily—hate how she knew her eyes were nice and always gave you puppy eyes so you’d forgive her every apology, hated all her muscles and how when they held you, you felt protected—and when they held you down, you felt hot and bothered. you hate her fucking fashion sense with every goddamn bone in your body because deep down you know she looks good in every damn thing— but she looks the best with her clothes off. you hate her. you hate paige bueckers with every bone in your body.
but there was a time in which you didn’t. there was a time in which you looked at paige with love instead of the hatred you look at her with now, and a time in which you stopped her in halls instead of hoping you wouldn’t see her in them in the first place. there was a time you loved her smile, and her eyes, and drooled over her muscles—and that time? was the time of your fucking life.
and she chose to end it through a fucking phone call.
Tumblr media
she always knocked on your door three times.
i love you— she said it through those knocks. you told her she didn’t need to, she was your girlfriend, she had special privileges (and a dorm key), but she insisted, because she wanted to say i love you before you even saw her. you always found it cute.
she was your girlfriend, then. she gave you toothy smiles whenever you went to her games, kisses throughout the campus because she believed a ‘hello’ was never enough, she even held your hand when she knew you were getting overwhelmed. she was, like, literally perfect. there was no doubt in your mind that she was it for you—she was the one. no worried looks from your friends whenever paige placed a hand on your hip, no whispers among students you didn’t know surfacing as you held her hand through a crowd could deter you. not even whispers of how paige had notoriously wandering eyes, or how she had a history of playing games with girls who didn’t know they were pawns. you were warned that paige wasn’t meant to settle down, that she was meant ‘for the streets’, and would never truly be yours— as they so bluntly, and also rudely, told you. you did nothing but scoff. those warnings did nothing. paige was it.
paige bueckers was the one.
you had no doubt about it. you were hers. you didn’t think twice about the wedding in spring you imagined, expecting it to be your problem in the future you had together, when in reality? paige didn’t even want you in hers.
Tumblr media
it started with her smile.
her smile was all teeth back then, when you were still in that early honeymoon phase and you felt as if nothing in the world could tear you apart. she was always happy to see you— you’d know from the way her smile was always so big. so wide.
and suddenly, somehow, some way— on some random thursday, it faltered. you didn’t notice at first. she didn’t smile as wide anymore. when she saw you at her games, she nodded her head and went back to her bench.
you just thought she was tired. that was okay, you thought.
and then her eyes started wandering.
like the crowds you once easily ignored whispered she was notorious for, her eyes started wandering. she looked at a cheerleader, her eyes trailing down the girl’s slim waist—and then the next week, she was looking at a point guard from another team; she just kept… looking.
by the next month she was looking at every one else besides you.
there were times when you locked eyes, and paige always did love those moments—you’d have a staring contest, and those butterflies in your stomach made simply because of paige looking at you so intently it made you feel like the only person in the room? well, you always fuckin’ lost. paige loved looking at you.
it’s why you noticed when she stopped.
suddenly, her arms didn’t wrap around you anymore.
there was no longer the familiar warmth she brought with her, no sign of the tight, constrictive hold that was somehow comforting. when paige hugged you, she did it with one hand. she pulled away first.
you always joked about paige’s arms being a cage.
unfortunately for you, that cage was all you knew. and when it began to open, you didn’t want to go. so you didn’t. you stayed with her. you stayed with her, and she got worse.
by then, she had stopped knocking three times.
by then, she had stopped coming. coming through for you, and coming to your dorm, and coming to you in general.
you don’t know why it only took you that one fantastic (sarcasm detected!) night to really leave.
Tumblr media
CONNECTICUT — 2:54 AM, BELDEN HALL (UCONN ALUMNI QUAD DORM)
11 missed calls, exactly 29 texts and counting, and thirty minutes pacing around your dorm, as small of a space as it was—paige promised to be back by 10:30 . that was exactly four hours and and 24 minutes ago. safe to say, you were fucking horrified. she promised to be back by 10:30; you were going to have a movie night together. your popcorn is untouched now, cold and stale.
and she is still not back.
so you call again.
there is exactly three rings before she finally answers. you gasp, a sigh of relief escaping you. her name is so sweet on your tongue.
“paige!—“
there is a click of her tongue on the other line and the giggle of another girl that makes your ears ring. “what?” she groans, “what is it?”
“paige?” you repeat her name again, softer this time, a tingle on your tongue.
“bro— hhh—fuck, right there, right there—what is it?”
a blade pierces your heart. “paige, what are you doing?”
there is a shuffle on the other line. she stays silent for a moment, the only sound from her is the soft sighs she let out and slurping you choose not to hear. you might puke.
you swallow down bile that feels like blood, and ask again.
“paige, what are you doing?”
“getting great head.”
you didn’t expect her to be so upfront, hoping that maybe even in all her drunken stupor she’d end up softening the truth. she didn’t. you froze.
your mind was moving a mile a minute, and so in desperation to just speak—you spoke with your heart. and all your heart had?
“why?”
it was broken enough for a mocking scoff to be heard on the other line, “why?” she repeated.
every word she said there after pierced a new hole through your already bleeding heart.
“i don’t give a damn ‘bout you, baby. what are you on?” she groaned, and you could hear her eyes roll from here— “i was just feeling ‘lone lately, you know how it is…”
by then, you knew she meant it. you stifled a sob. by then, you knew she meant it—but you still said, you still said— “you’re just… you’re just drunk—“
“you get drunk too, don’t be a fucking drama queen. i know you. from head to toe, actually.” it’s mocking, and you bite your lip— “you know how it feels to get— ohhh fuck, fuck that feels good, that feels good,”
you could barely believe her own audacity. she was so shameless in her disloyalty— with every moan, rage reverberated through your body. with every giggle you heard from that girl on the other end, your fist clenched harder.
and yet, trumping every other emotion, was sorrow.
“we’re done, paige.” you said, through a hoarse, shaky voice. “we’re done.”
“are we?”
“yes, we are.”
“but you stayed this long, baby. if i get bored again, i might need you. you’re so grumpy all the time, you— fuck, fuck— you know? when you’re with others, you’re grumpy, but with me, you’re so sweet. when you’re with me, your ass is flirty— all that pain you told me about disappears, right? that’s funny. you’re a pain in the ass when i’m tryna get a quick fuck in. gotta stay loyal to you… but nahh… i’m bored, actually. real bored. like super, super bored. but it like really depends—“
why are you letting her speak this long? there are tears in your eyes, and you fear your skin might split if you keep clenching your knuckles this hard. why are you letting her speak this long?
you don’t want to stop hearing her voice.
you don’t want to, even if she made you wait for four hours and 24 minutes, even after all she’s put you through—even after every second passing right now, in which you find paige has probably been continously cheating on you.
“paige,” you try again. you interrupt her. this time, her name on your tongue burns. it bleeds like a cut, aching. “paige, just… stop.” you defend yourself pathetically, you acknowledge it, you cannot stop it—but maybe, you can stop her. “just stop.”
“…okay?“
okay, is all you get. that’s all you get.
you open your mouth to speak, but you’re cut off by paige’s pornographic moan that claws at your brain the moment you hear it—and then a click is heard.
paige ended the call.
paige ended it all.
you would’ve collapsed if you weren’t already slumped against your bed in tears. you fall asleep with your head resting against the edge of your mattress and a bucket of popcorn untouched by your desk.
and the next morning, there are no more missed calls. your roommate knows about your breakup before you even tell her; she tells you paige was fucking drunk off her ass last night, and she announced it at the party in a tone so jolly it made people double over and laugh. your roommate heard paige say that she was free, now, and that the moment she said so—a bunch of girls had came near her corner. they were waiting.
your roommate can’t resist saying ‘i told you so’.
this time, you don’t even think to defend the person you thought you’d willingly spend your whole life defending.
instead, you say, “you were right.”
because she was. as unheard of as it seemed back then, she was right.
what’s meant for the streets would never be yours.
