Trump returned to Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan a few hours ago. His bedbugs were probably happy to see him back.
Trump’s plane landed at LaGuardia airport Monday afternoon. Earlier that day, he announced that he was leaving Mar-a-Lago.
[ ... ]
Streets around the skyscraper were blocked off, forcing both commuters and protesters onto narrow sidewalks.
Former President Donald Trump is expected in Manhattan criminal court Tuesday on charges that have yet to be publicly disclosed, though legal experts have speculated that the indictment is related to hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
Security in Manhattan is tighter than usual. If MAGA zombies and far right insurrectionists try to do a NYC version of January 6th, they will quickly discover that local authorities will not be indulgent.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams told Marjorie Taylor Greene to behave herself.
youtube
NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell had a reminder for Trumpist gun nuts.
Sewell said the police department will make sure that people can peacefully protest former President Trump's indictment.
"But I will remind everyone that violence and destruction are not part of legitimate, lawful expression and will never be tolerated in our city," she said.
Anyone who protests should also remember that it is now illegal to carry a gun in many so-called “sensitive locations” in New York, including courthouses — even if you have a license — Sewell said.
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has said she plans to protest the indictment and has urged her Twitter followers to join her with their MAGA hats.
It's tempting to go to the courthouse in Manhattan just to yell “lock him up!” at Trump. But since he’ll be making quite a few appearances there in the future, there will be many occasions to do that when the crowds are smaller.

How do you feel about Arva Rice resigning
Bad! She's just another agency head in a long line of people Eric Adams has pushed out. It's so incredibly annoying how he posits himself as, like, the nation's forefront appointer of Black women to positions of power when he keeps forcing them to resign (Sylvia Hinds-Radix, Arva Rice) or making their jobs untenable (Keechant Sewell) while replacing them with people like fucking Randy Mastro.
It's also very concerning that Rice (regardless of whether she was the interim chair) was forced out for merely criticizing the NYPD's decision not to discipline the officers who killed Kawaski Trawick when 1) that should have been a fucking no-brainer, and 2) SHE WAS JUST REPEATING HER AGENCY'S RECOMMENDATION. The NYPD purposely stonewalled the investigation for years so they could hide behind the statute of limitations. If the CCRB isn't allowed to criticize the NYPD....... what is it for?????
As someone who has repeatedly witnessed Kawaski Trawick's family sharing their pain and trauma in the hopes that some action will be taken against the officers who murdered their loved one it makes me want to scream. The corruption at the NYPD—backed and condoned by the Adams administration—is so deep there is no level of reform that could improve it.

Democrat and New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed that crime in the Bronx has dropped, despite data showing an uptick in offenses, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Crime has been a hot topic issue for voters and lawmakers across the country.
As liberal lawmakers pushed for gun control laws following years of mass shootings and recent back-to-back events of gun violence toward minors, conservatives have advocated for an increase in firearms and police presence.
While AOC attempted to push her policies by using the Bronx's alleged drop in crime, critics accused the lawmaker of making a false claim.
On Tuesday, the Democrat posted a tweet pushing a theory of utilizing hospitals for crime prevention rather than traditional routes of incarceration.
The tweet featured a video clip from the Daily Show, where AOC was seen discussing the initiative Stand Up to Violence, which viewed crime prevention through the license of a public health crisis.
AOC shared the video along with a caption, claiming the program had "dramatically" reduced crime in her borough.
"In the Bronx, when we made our public hospital the response center to violent crimes instead of jails and precincts, reoccurrence of crime fell dramatically," AOC captioned her post. "As leaders, we should focus on solutions that are working instead of what helps us look 'tough.'"
The lawmaker followed up the tweet with an additional post.
"Violence interruption works to keep us safe. Our job is to build awareness and popular support around effective solutions and alternatives to mass incarceration," the Bronx native added.
While AOC claimed the "violence interruption" program had worked wonders in the community, data showed otherwise.
Data published by the City of New York on Sunday showed that when compared year-to-date, the Bronx had 7,965 reported instances of crime, compared to 7,629 in 2022.
When 2023 crime states were compared to figures taken two years ago, there was a 47.25% increase.
Recent data did show an improvement in violent crimes such as murders, which decreased 26.2% from 2023 to 2022. Despite murder rates dropping, felony assaults increased 10% from the previous year.
Overall, figures taken from reports of crime in the Bronx represented a portion of the crime wave that has eclipsed the Big Apple.
New York City Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell stated that "this is not what New Yorkers expect or deserve, and we will not stand for it," when the data was presented in early April.

On November 19, moments before midnight, an armed bigot entered Club Q, an LGBTQ club in Colorado Springs, Colorado, during Trans Day Of Remembrance events and opened fire, killing five people and injuring at least 18 people.
In response to the tragedy, NYC Mayor Eric Adams & NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell made statements on social media claiming that the “NYPD stands with the LGBTQIA+ community” and condemns “violence of any kind in NYC and everywhere.” New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York state police and NYPD would step up surveillance within LGBTQ communities and would monitor social media sites for potential threats.
But from the pre-Stonewall days to literally earlier this month, the NYPD has a history of violence against queer and trans people – particularly in queer and trans social and political spaces.
About two weeks ago, right outside of City Hall, NYPD sent multiple units, including Counterterrorism, the Disorder Control Unit, and the Strategic Response Group, to protect a transphobic rally from the trans people who came to counter-protest with bells, horns, their voices, and yes, even their fists if need be. NYPD brutally arrested 9 people that day, all of whom were counter-protesters.

Three officers assigned to New Year’s Eve celebrations in New York City's Times Square area were injured by a machete-wielding teenager who expressed militant support for Islam, law enforcement officials said.
The attack happened shortly after 10 p.m. at West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue, just outside checkpoints for the high-security zone set up for celebrants, officials said at a news conference early Sunday.
The suspect approached an officer and tried to strike him over the head with the machete, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said. He then struck two officers in the head with the blade before he was shot in the shoulder and apprehended by police, Sewell said.
Three law enforcement officials with direct knowledge of the investigation said late Sunday that authorities were looking into whether the suspect reached for one of the officers' service weapons during their takedown. The injured police were out of the hospital and expected to recover.
Authorities identified the suspect at the news conference only as a 19-year-old man. Four senior law enforcement officials said the man is Trevor Bickford of Wells, Maine.
The suspect was known to federal agents, who interviewed him in mid-December after a relative alerted them to his revolutionary support for Islam, four law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation said.
His name is in a federal law enforcement database, they said, and he was known to investigators for his social media postings. Bickford does not have a criminal record, the four officials said.
The man, who made pro-jihadist statements from his hospital bed overnight, is believed to have traveled from Wells to lower Manhattan on Thursday mainly via Amtrak, those sources said.
Investigators were probing whether he stayed at a homeless shelter downtown, the four officials said.
A diary found by investigators may have indicated the suspect believed he was on a suicide mission: He left notes about who would inherit belongings and where he wanted to be buried, the sources said.
The suspect said in the diary he regrets disappointing his mother; he also wrote that he wanted his brothers to join him in his fight for Islam, they said.
He had expressed some desire to travel to Afghanistan in the past, the officials said. Terrorist-related propaganda and personal writings were found in his backpack, they said.
