Tonight was just another average night for you. You had a closing shift at the bar, which you preferred over the morning shift. Seeing the time close in on 5:30 p.m, you opted to grab a snack before touching up your makeup and fixing your shirt, making sure your cleavage was slightly exposed– the best way to earn tips from sleazy men. 

The bar was within walking distance, only being about a 5 minute walk away. You liked this job, it provided good money. Although it wasn’t the most conventional, it was pretty easy for the most part, and the tips were an added bonus. You had a few regulars, ones that you could rely on to make good money. 

After flunking out of college, you didn’t really have many options on what to do for work. You didn’t want to go back home, your parents would just give you a hard time. You didn’t want to go back to school, you flunked out for a reason. So you settled for this. 

You slipped out of your small apartment, grabbing a coffee from a nearby cafe before making your way to the bar. You clock in and start your shift.

Your co-worker, Natty, sighed. 

“First, a drunk guy spilled his drink all over me and I couldn’t even change because it was busy. It was at 3 pm and it’s Saturday! Then, like an hour later these guys started fighting over a tab. Kai had to help me break them up and they both paid but neither of them left a tip.”

“Damn, that’s brutal. At least you get to leave now right?” You try to ease her pain a little. She just looks at you and sighs again, wiping down the table before going to clock out.

Saturdays were the busiest days at the bar. You were thankful that your other co-worker, Kai, was working with you tonight. You could always rely on him to break up fights and keep customers at bay. Even though his looks were youthful, he was big and buff, which often intimidated the obnoxious drunk men that would hit on you or give you a hard time. 

Mentally preparing yourself for the shift, it started off calm. There was always a slow period between 5-7 o’clock, as most people were out eating dinner or deemed it too early to start drinking. It was after that time that the flow of customers increased. You were steady making drinks for your customers, engaging in some small talk here and there, making sure to flirt a little. 

It was a little closer to 9 pm when you saw 4 men walk in. You didn’t think much of it until they took the 4 seats right in front of you. All 4 of them were handsome, but the one in the middle caught your eye. His hair was slicked back, two pieces falling at the side of his face. They were all dressed pretty formally, they had probably just come after an event. You didn’t think much of it. 

“What can I get started for you handsome boys?”

The tallest guy with red hair spoke up,

“Can we get 4 whiskey sours please?”

“4 whiskey sours, got it”

You said, getting started on the drinks and opening a tab for them. You looked up from making the first two for a moment, noticing that the one you were eyeing before was looking at you. He gave you a quick smile. You finish making the drinks and set them all in front of the men. The one with longer black hair giving you a quick ‘thank you.’ He had a cute accent. 

One by one, they ordered more drinks. The red haired one and the one with the accent were red in the face, indicating that they were drunk. The other 2 guys seemed fine, the taller one was the quiet one amongst them, quietly sipping on his drinks and listening to the others' conversation. 

“Excuse me, um…? I’m sorry, I don’t know your name but can I close out the tab?”

The guy with the slicked back hair asked, black card in hand. 

“My name’s Y/N. And yes, I can close out your tab for you.”

You take his card, fingers brushing ever so slightly. You swipe it and give it back to him.

“Thank you, Jay”

You say, glancing at the name on the card. He chuckles before putting it away. The other guys patted his shoulders and gave him loud thanks for paying for their drinks tonight.

“You guys have all had something to drink tonight, do you need to call an uber or are you walking home?”

“Oh no, we have our friend coming to pick us up. We’re waiting for him.”

He glances down at the receipt, specifically the tip section. 

“How much do you want as a tip?”

You were thrown off at the question, never having been asked that before. You didn’t want to come off rude or ungrateful. He looks up at you when you don’t respond after a few seconds.

“It's not a trick question. The bill came out to $73.”

You look at him, realizing he wasn't joking.

“$27? Make it an even $100?”

He laughs before writing it down on the receipt before handing it back to you.

“Be more confident in your answer next time. Have a good night.”

He shoots you a wink before walking out with his friends. You look down at the receipt and smile, blushing at his wink.

“Do we think he’s cute?”

Kai nudges your shoulder with his, joking around with you.

“He’s cute.”

The next couple days go by like normal. Going out in the mornings, hanging out with friends and coming back to your apartment before 3 p.m to get ready for your shift. 

The next time you see Jay was on another night shift on a Saturday. It had been two weeks since you last saw him. Normally, you wouldn’t remember people who you’d only seen once, but you couldn’t get him out of your head. He took a seat a little further away than where he had sat last time.

“Welcome back Jay. What can I get started for ya?”

He smiled at the fact that you remembered his name. He looked even better today. He was wearing formal clothes again, but this time a suit instead of a button up like last time. He was also by himself. 

“Just an old fashioned please, thanks.” 

You nod your head, making the drink in front of him. You hand it to him before imploring about his suit.

“Did you have a party or event tonight?”

“Just a work event. My friends and I all work at this company. The end of the year always has many events, awards ceremonies and such.” 

“I see. You look good.” 

You walk away from him, tending to another customer, but you don’t miss the smirk on his face as you walk off. For the rest of the night, Jay only orders drinks from you. It’s nearing 12 a.m again, when Jay calls you over to close his tab. 

When you hand him back the receipt, you anticipate that he’ll ask you how much to tip again. But he doesn’t. Instead, he adds a 50% tip. 

“Thank you for the drinks tonight Y/N. I hope you have a wonderful night.” 

“You’re welcome. Have a good night Jay.” 

He gives you another wink before leaving the bar. He only had about $12 worth of drinks. You wondered why he was in here by himself. Maybe he just wanted to be alone? You brushed it off, finishing your duties for the rest of night before heading home.

Over the past few months, this became routine. Jay would come in almost every other week, mostly dressed up, so you knew he had come there from work. Other times he was just out with his friends for a casual Saturday night out. You got to know him and his friends a little better. 

Heeseung, the one with red hair, who would try and crack jokes with you every now and then. Jake, the one with the accent, who would playfully flirt with you, but it was all good fun. And Sunghoon, the quiet one that would space out a lot. He didn't drink too much and would contribute to conversation here and there, but he was mostly there for his friends. And of course, Jay, who you learned was the head of the office that he worked at, his friends working alongside him. He was sweet and funny, making jokes and making his friends laugh. And he always paid for their drinks. He always tipped 50% no matter how big or small the bill was. He was also your favorite customer. 

“Hey Y/N!”

You looked over and realized it was Jake that had called your name. 

“Yes? Do you need a refill?” 

“Haha, no. I was gonna ask if you could take a shot with us? Jay just got promoted, so we’re here to celebrate him tonight!” 

You look over and see Jay looking away from you, a very faint blush and big smile on his face. 

“Normally I’m not allowed to drink on the job, but I guess I can make an exception for tonight,”

You said, preparing 5 shot glasses. You turn to Jay,

“Pick your poison,”

Something about the way you had looked at him and agreed to take a shot to celebrate him had Jay feeling excited. The look you gave him going straight to his dick.

“Vodka”

You raise your eyebrows at him and pour the vodka into the shot glasses. 

“This one’s on me,”

You say. The boys beside Jay cheered and clinked their glasses together, which you did as well. They all laughed while you took the glasses back, but Jay couldn’t stop staring at you. The way you sauntered off with the glasses had him captivated. You return to see him staring at you. 

“Congratulations Jay. I’m sure you deserve the promotion you got,”

Was the last thing you said to him before walking off to someone else. He couldn’t tell if you were flirting with him or just being nice and he couldn’t tell if it was because you meant it or because it was part of your job. 

“You should just go ask her out already. If you keep staring she’s gonna think you’re a creep,” 

Sunghoon piped up after noticing that Jay didn’t take his eyes off of you. 

“Mind your business Sunghoon,”

He couldn’t explain why seeing you talk to other men– paying customers who you had to service– would make him jealous. While you didn’t have to flirt with them, you wanted to make more tips. Plus, you were single, so to you, it didn’t matter if you had meaningless flirtations with people that had no significance to you. But to Jay, it was like you were cheating on him. Over the last few months, Jay’s friends had gotten to know about his little crush on you. They would always tease him when you would walk away and even on nights that they knew he was going to the bar. At first, it was a coincidence that you were bartending the nights he would come in. But soon, he would come just to see you. He hasn’t had a crush on someone in a while and forgot what it was like to have one. But he knew he had a crush on you, and he wanted to pursue it. 

It was close to closing time and you had been called over by the boys again.

“Hey, Y/N! We’d like to close our tab please!”

It was Sunghoon that had called you over this time. You noticed that Jay had gotten up, probably going to the bathroom. 

“Whose card is it on tonight? Surely you’re not gonna make Jay pay for it, right?”

“Of course not! This one’s on me!”

Jake said, handing you his card.

“This is what Jay would have tipped you,”

He remarks, doubling the bill.

“Normally I would think his usual 50% is too much but 100%? That’s crazy, I can’t accept that.”

“Please just take it. This is what he would have tipped if he was paying tonight, and he would kill me if he found out I was doing this for him but just take it.”

You didn’t want to fight him on it, the sentiment making you blush. You would have to thank him personally. But why would he tip you 100% instead of his usual 50%? You were about to ask when you noticed Jay coming back. You decided not to say anything now. 

“Are you guys ready to go? Jungwon said he’s almost here!”

Jay said, wiping his wet hands on his clothes. The bathroom must have been out of napkins. 

“Yeah, let's go!”

Heeseung got up, collecting all their belongings and putting on his jacket as it was getting cold out. 

“Okay, you guys go ahead! I’ll pay and we can leave.”

“Don’t worry about it! I got it.”

Jake said, to which Jay looked surprised. He looked at his friends fondly, and smiled. 

“Thank you.”

They all turned to you and wished you a goodnight, before filtering out of the bar. You waved them goodbye before noticing that one of them had left their wallet on the counter. You quickly grabbed it, opening it to see that it was Jay’s. You ran out of the bar, hoping that they hadn’t left yet. To your luck, you see them getting into a car down the street. You ran up to the car, slightly out of breath as it was down the road and across the street and there were a couple of cars driving by. 

“Wait! You left this!” 

You yell to Jay. He looks at you with concern before noticing his wallet in your hand. You hand it back to him, placing your hands on your knees to catch your breath. He helps hold you up. 

“I appreciate you running out here to give me my wallet but it’s cold! Here!”

He swings his jacket over you which you grip, the cold only now setting in after the mini adrenaline rush was wearing off, causing you to shiver.  

“It’s fine! I’m about to go back inside anyways, I don’t need your jacket”

“Then why are you gripping onto it like you do?” 

He raised his eyebrow, tonguing his cheek before smirking at you. You glared at him before letting a small laugh slip out. 

“I have enough jackets so you can have that one. Plus I’ll be back soon if you wanna give it back to me. But get back to the bar. You have to close, right?”

You nod and smile at him, saying your goodbyes before heading back to the bar. Unable to wipe the smile off your face, Natty notices and laughs.

“What, were you making out with him out there? What took you so long?” 

She noticed the unfamiliar jacket adorning your shoulders.

“And you got his jacket too? He must be in love with you.” 

You playfully smack her arm at her outlandish delusions. 

“Oh please. I just went to return his wallet.”

You wouldn’t call what you felt for Jay a crush per se, but you did get giddy whenever he was coming in. You loved the way he’d stare at you and the jokes he would make. He always made you laugh. He says, rolling his eyes while you laugh at his sassy comments.

“If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know them?”

“Oh you don’t know? They all work here, at Belift. Jay’s the COO while the rest are under him after he got the promotion. I work here at the cafe but they all come down so often I know them pretty well by now. I’m surprised he hasn’t told you about it yet.”

You were shocked to say the least. You didn’t know how successful Jay was, that he was almost CEO of a major company in your city. At such a young age too. 

“We don’t really get to talk all that much since it gets busy around the time that they all come in. He did tell me about the promotion, I just didn’t know what it was for.”

You look behind you, a line having formed during your conversation. 

“I should get going, I don’t wanna hold up the line. But it was nice to meet you Jungwon! And thank you again for the coffee!” 

He says his goodbyes to you before you walk out the door and head to the bar. You smile to yourself at the thought of Jay being at the bar tonight. You walk into the bar and are greeted by both Kai and Natty. 

“What are you both doing here?”

Usually, it’s only you and 1 other person at the bar. It was a smaller bar and while it did get popular on Saturdays, there weren't ever more people than 2 of you could handle. 

“You didn’t hear? It’s the last weekend before finals, and the boss is running a special where drinks are half off for the whole night. The college students are gonna flood in here. It’s gonna be a full house tonight.” 

Kai said to you, cleaning off the tables and getting new bottles prepped and ready for the incoming crowd. 

“Boss said he needed all three of us here today since it was gonna be really busy. But that just means we’re gonna get more tips than ever from those college boys!” 

Natty chimed up, excited about the extra money that will be made from tonight. 

“Not to mention that we’re getting paid time and a half to be here today!”

You smile at them, helping them prepare for the night. 

At first it’s slow. The bar opens at 5 p.m so you didn’t expect many people to be there for the first hour or two. Around 8 o’clock is when it started to get busy. And by 9 o’clock, you're slammed. There are more people than you’ve ever seen at the bar right now, even the three of you working quickly wasn’t enough. 

“I’ve been waiting here for 20 minutes but you’re cute so I’ll let it slide.”

Your ears perk up at the voice flirting with you. You quickly finish your task before walking over to him.

Usually the bar closes at midnight, but because today was special, you were open till 2 a.m. Little by little, the patrons of the bar see themselves out, only a couple people left, including Jay.

He raises his eyebrows before cracking a half-sided smile. 

“100% huh? For that kind of tip I would’ve expected more than having to wait 20 minutes between drinks.”

“Last time you were here when you got your promotion, Jake told me you would’ve tipped me 100% and gave me just that. Why is that? 

He was taken aback and just looked at you like a deer in headlights. He was going to have to pummel Jake later for saying that. You really did want an answer, but before he could speak up, you beat him to it, basically confirming your feelings for him was the same as his feelings for you. 

“100 percent. Your jacket is in my apartment. Maybe I’ll let you come up and grab it.”

You struggle to contain your moans as he hits up right into your spot, the feeling causing a familiar wave of pressure to build up into your core. He lets his voice trail off, nervous of your reaction towards his unexpected confession. One you can’t help but smile at because of how cute it is, despite the current context of your semi-naked bodies settled so comfortably on the bed. 

“What gave it away? The way I’d always service you as soon as I could or the fact that I would spend more time than I should’ve talking to you when I was busy with other customers?”

You turn to rest your head on your hand while facing him, another question from you breaking him out of his search for a response.

“And you never answered my question from earlier but I guess it makes sense now. Jake said you were gonna tip me 100% the night you got your promotion but he didn’t tell me why. I guess I can assume you had already started liking me before then which is why I so confidently had asked for 100% tonight. At this point you were rambling and you knew it, but you wanted to get every thought out of your head before you forgot it, starting to feel sleepy after your vigorous activities. He turns so he’s face to face with you. 

“Aren’t you quite the detective? I found you attractive since the first night I walked in. I’m sure I wasn’t subtle about the way I looked at you and how often I looked at you either. But I think what did it was when you came running with my wallet that night. You looked so cute, shivering and acting like you weren’t cold.”

His explanation has you sighing, content at his answer. You just blink at him cutely and smile. 

“You’re very sappy. But I kinda like it,”

He laughs and scoots closer to you, slinging an arm around your waist. 

“Can I kiss you?”

Your smile only grows wider as you nod, leaning in so he can close the space between you.  His hand that’s firmly grasping your waist is rubbing little soothing circles into it while you tangle your fingers in his hair, a kiss much sweeter and slower than the ones you’ve previously shared. You part your lips a little, allowing his tongue to roam your mouth freely. 

Once you decide to break away, you both gaze into eachothers eyes. 

“I would love to take you out. Are you free tomorrow night?” 

“I don’t know, let me think about it… I’m just kidding, yes!” 

You both laugh at your little antics, Jay now sitting up on your bed and looking for his phone. 

“Give me your number so I can text you. I’ll come back here to pick you up tomorrow.” 

He says, hanging you his phone to put your number in. 

“Here’s my number but you have like a million messages from Jungwon”

“Oh shit” 

Caught up in the midst of his excitement, Jay had forgotten to text Jungwon not to come pick him up from the bar. 

“Jay?”

“Where are you?”

“Come outside I’m here”

“The bars closed where are you?” 

“Bro if you don’t come out I’m gonna leave”

“I just checked your location you could’ve told me you went to someone’s house” 

“I’m never picking you up ever again”

It was a day like the others, the year before Ozai’s unfair punishment. I’d go to the Royal Palace after school to play or practice, whichever we felt like.

When Zuko and I opened the door that led to the duck pond, his little sister, Azula, was already there with her friends, Ty Lee and Mai.

Azula’s already proven to be ruthless for a 10-year-old. She’s constantly reminding Zuko of his ‘failure’ to live up to the responsibility of Fire Lord just because he’s not as vicious as her. In this home, they favored brutality over honor, and if you know Zuko, he’s all honor. Even at twelve years old, you can tell he won’t grow to be like his father before him and it’s a problem.

She’s only gotten worse since their mother disappeared 2 years ago. No one knows the specifics, but Azula says their grandfather ordered the Fire Lord to kill Zuko and she never lets him forget it.

As we walk toward our usual spot, the little girl comes up to us.

“Zuzu, come play with us!” she says with a hint of mischief in her voice.

“No! I’m busy.” Zuko replies, brushing her off. We continue walking to reach the other side of the pasture, far away from his sister and her friends.

“Fine.” With Azula, fine isn’t just fine. It’s code for I’ll get you somehow.

But I try to keep my thoughts about her to myself. She is younger than us and I’m not scared of her. It’s Zuko she doesn’t see as a threat. As for me, she’s known not to push it. Since we all have the same fire-bending master, she’s well aware I’m better than the both of them.

When we reach our spot, we sit to take our swords from their sheaths. Today it’s blades, yesterday it was bending. We almost forget Azula’s in our vicinity when Mai comes crashing down onto Zuko, making her blush.

Mai is a year younger than us, and she’s always had this crush on him. Everyone knows. I know.

But unlike Azula, I don’t humiliate her with the fact. Even if the thought of Zuko returning the feelings makes me uncomfortable.

Mai quickly gets up and apologizes for stumbling on top of him and Zuko, in all his emotional glory, yells at his sister. “Stop it! It’s not funny.”

She grins with her arms folded. “Oh, but it is, dumb-dumb. I told you to play with me!”

“That’s not how you get people to play with you!” I stand up for him, knowing it’s a losing battle if he’s all alone in his defense.

“Whatever.” She replies and focuses her attention on Ty Lee’s handstand. Probably thinking of a way to ruin that too.

It’s clear we won’t be left alone to spar in peace.

“Want to go to my room?” He asks. Familiar amber eyes gazing into mine.

Butterflies appear in my stomach. I’ve been to his room thousands of times, millions if it was possible. It wasn’t abnormal. But lately, I can’t stop these stupid bugs.

My feelings for my best friend are changing, I just hope his are too.

“Sure.”

A few weeks have passed since the failed ambush of the Northern Water Tribe by the Fire Nation. Admiral Zhao is presumed dead, and the empire retreated. They were long gone, and this loss was too shameful to ever attempt something like it again.

Though, the adrenaline from the win would be nothing compared to the loss felt by the masses. We lost some people, rebuilding was commencing, and the tribe had lost their princess. The Chief had lost his daughter.

While it pained Sokka and I to inform him of the news, what he said in return brought peace to all of us. He said he had a vision of a beautiful young woman sacrificing her life for her people and it wasn’t until that fateful day that he knew it was his daughter. Warmth embraced us all after he spoke. What better way to show your love for your people than to become the moon itself? It was bittersweet. To know she couldn’t walk with us but be with us wherever we go on planet Earth.

If only I knew how I felt about encountering Zuko for the first time in three years.

I honestly didn’t know what to think, act, or be. It all happened so fast.

Having to save Aang in the middle of our encounter distracted me long enough. Letting down the Chief and Yue becoming the moon spirit distracted me long enough. Hell, seeing Iroh for the first time in a while distracted me long enough. But eventually, the dust settles and there’s nothing but his face in my thoughts.

His hair is different, and he looks… sharper around the edges. He’s stronger and his bending is different than before, more determined and intentional. He seems tired.

I replay our interaction in my head multiple times a day, sometimes in my dreams. Each time, I think about what I could have said instead. Other times he doesn’t strike me in the ribs. But then I wake up or come back to reality and the scar of his burn on my side reminds me: he’s no longer my Zuko.

I mourn the gentle boy I once knew.

All our good moments flash through my mind like an orchestrated play. Growing up together. Elementary memories of playing and later, practicing our sparring and bending together. Silent moments where we both sat and stared as the sun painted orange across the sky, once we were done for the day. Being the first person we looked for at a royal party and feeling relief when our eyes locked together, assuring that we won’t spend the night bored out of our minds. Silly things I didn’t think I’d miss so much.

But it was hard to feel bad for him when he was someone else entirely.

I shouldn’t have, but I took it easy on him. I thought there was some sort of silent agreement that we would never hurt each other, like when we were sparring. But at some point in time, practice became fighting, and nobody told me.

I spent three years thinking about this exact moment and I never once thought we’d be on two different sides of this war.

It was different for him, I suppose. He stopped practicing the moment Ozai told him to get up and fight.

The swirl of feelings dizzied me, going from I hate him to I missed him. From where is he? to I think I could find him if I tried.  

But I don’t know how that would land on Aang, Katara, and Sokka.

Zuko’s been terrorizing them since Aang came out of the ice, before they crossed paths with Jet and me. I’m not even sure how they feel about my past with their first enemy. I’ll make a note to ask later.

I’ve been in my head the entire time we went through the cave of two lovers. I think some badger moles got us out and the nomads went their own way once we made it through.

Apparently, we’re heading to Omashu so Aang can learn earth-bending from his old friend, King Bumi.

Sokka’s catching me up to speed, but his voice sounds like it could be a thousand miles away from my mind. “It’s pretty cool, I didn’t really like being trapped and thinking I was going to die but that’s not the point- Hey, are you okay?” He grabs my elbow and stops us in our tracks. His eyes look into mine, looking for me.

He shares a glance with Katara that prompts her to say, “Let's take a break from walking, guys. Aang, c'mon I think I see some water. I want to see what you know before you become an earth-bender.”

“Okay!” The young Avatar replies, eager for alone time with his favorite person. They smile at me before leaving, and I feel left out of a certain loop.

Once they’re far away enough, I reply to Sokka’s question. “I’m okay, why?”

“You’ve just been off… since the invasion.” He scratches the back of his neck as he confesses his concerns.

“It was a lot, I mean. Yue—”

“I know, but you’ve pulled away from all of us.” Almost shyly, he continues, “From me.”

“Oh.”

“But we all want to know if you’re okay.” He hurries to add.

“I’ve been thinking about some stuff is all.” I let out a sigh, a poor attempt at trying to let go of what’s bothering me. “I just hadn’t seen him in a long time. And when I do, he’s fighting me.” I look down at my boots, begging for the dry dirt to become quicksand. My cheeks are getting hot and the familiar knot in my throat is forming. This is why I didn’t want to talk about it.

“Yeah, he does that.” Sokka scoffs. “He’s a jerk. He can be mean to us, I get it! The Avatar and everything. But being mean to you was unnecessary.”

The knot in my throat quickly forms into a tone that’s harsher than I mean it. “Was it?” Sokka’s taken aback and instantly, I’m regretful for it. “Sorry… I don’t know what I feel.”

I investigate his icy stare and for the first time, I feel the distance I’ve put between us. Unfortunately, I think it’s there to stay.

He raises his hands in defense, “I get it.”

“What do you mean?”

“Did you like him?” I finally understand what he’s been saying. Why he wanted to talk. He wanted to talk about us and how Zuko fits into that equation.

“No—I… uh...” the words leave me.

“I see.”

"That's not a confession."

"Then say no."

“Does it matter?” I ask, becoming irritated with his attitude.

“Does it?” Sokka’s stern voice rarely makes an appearance, but when it does, it surprises me. Leave it to Zuko to cause an argument when he’s not even here.

Before I can answer, Katara and Aang return, looking chippier than we do.

“Break’s over?” she asks us, furrowing her brows as she takes in our body language.

“Yeah, it’s over.” Sokka huffs and walks away, leading us to our destination.

With Sokka guiding us, he proudly gestures towards the Earth Kingdom land. “Ladies and gentlemen, the city of Omashu!” When I finally intake what they’ve all been talking about, I know what we see isn’t what they were describing.

“Oh no.” Aang says for all of us.

The fire emblems are too loud to ignore. Omashu’s been occupied.

As the four of us stand in our fight mode, ready to negotiate Bumi for the Mayor’s baby boy, I see three girls in the distance. I see her first.

My heart drops down to my core, the way it did when I first saw Zuko after all these years. Just when I thought the reunions were over, the universe shows me exactly what it is I ran away from. Finally, after all this time, I have to face what I did.

“No.” I mumble.

“What?” Aang asks. They all turn to me. Now that they know who I am, they know I must know whoever is coming to negotiate on the empire’s behalf.

I should have known it would be Mai, but her little brother was not born when I last saw her. When we all went to the Royal Fire Academy for Girls.

I don’t have enough time to warn them, you never do when she’s involved.

“It’s Azula.”

Hiii, thank you so much! 😊 I've been working hard to improve my drawing skills, and I'm glad to hear that the progress is noticeable✨️

I fell in love with Zutara when I was a kid and watched Avatar for the first time. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed when I saw the kiss between Aang and Katara in the final episode🥲. I had hoped that she would end up with Zuko until the very end. Of course, I've watched Avatar another 100 times since then, but that's okay. Later, I started seeing Zutara fan art on Pinterest, and I really enjoyed looking at them. About two years ago, I bought a tablet with a stylus just so I could draw on it. Honestly, at first, I was drawing myself and Zuko together, trying to insert myself into the story—whoever says they didn't have a crush on Zuko as a kid is lying! 😂

One day at school, I was drawing some human figures and thought, "Hey, this could be a Zutara fan art." When I finished it, I debated whether or not to post it on Tumblr, which I had installed just to look at Zutara fan art. So, I uploaded my first piece, not expecting even 20 likes, but the Zutara fans really liked it. From then on, I started drawing almost every day at school and posting my works and ideas.🫶

My favorite Zutara headcanons, even though there are hundreds of them, are:

• The Fire Nation Ambassador- if Katara had stayed true to herself, she would have become a powerful politician, serving as an ambassador for both the Fire Nation and the Water Tribe, dedicated to maintaining peace across the world. Naturally, she would have grown closer to Zuko and they would fall in love❤️‍🔥 .

• The Fire Lady Katara- just imagine if Katara and Zuko had ended up together—I think the show would have ended with Zuko's coronation and him proposing to Katara with a necklace, or maybe even their wedding where Katara is crowned as the Fire Lady🔥.

• Love After the Agni Kai - Imagine the Agni Kai is over, and while Katara is healing Zuko, he confesses the feelings he has long kept hidden inside. He declares his love for her, and she admits that she feels the same. And they are kissing💋.

• Love Without War - Imagine if the Fire Nation never declared war and peace prevailed. Avatar Aang's era has passed, and a new Avatar is born—Katara from the Water Tribe. While traveling the world, the time comes for her to learn firebending, and she is assigned a talented young prince, Zuko, as her teacher. They fall in love, and the rest is history💞. (This is my idea, and it’s for the next drawing that you’ll soon see on my profile)

Himiko, 100% he's a girl dad and he absolutely adores her. She has him wrapped around her pinky, what baby toga wants, baby toga gets. She wants a shark and mom Y/n said no? Dad Kai gets it and faces his wife's fury too. She wants to date her crush but her crush turned her down? Dad Kai is first gonna have someone beat crush up for seducing his innocent angel, then beat him up again for turning her down and threaten crush into a relationship with Himiko.

He doesn't hate Dabi and Tomura, but he's just one of those dad's that never really connect with their sons. Besides, it's Dabi and Tomura who really hate his guts, Tomura more than Dabi. Kai reasons that they have some sort of Oedipus complex for u and will eventually grow out of it. And if they don't, it won't matter because Kai will be kicking all of his kids out the moment they turn 18. Although...Himiko can come to visit as often as she likes.

Kit- Originally went to see Barbie because Julia wanted to but ended up loving it. Definitely cried. Loved seeing Barbie’s onscreen that looked like Julia, he could tell it made her happy. 100% had a crush on Margot Robbie after this.

Rory- Is actually one of the background Ken’s and won’t stop telling people. Drags all his friends and family to see it so he can point out himself in the background of a dance number for 10 seconds. Laughs out loud at every joke. Actively uses the phrase ‘Kenergy’.

Gallant- Barbie’s were his first subjects for styling hair so is super excited for the movie. Thinks he could have styled Margot Robbie’s hair better than the actual movie stylist. Everyone thinks he’s crushing on Ryan Gosling as Ken but he’s actually crushing on Michael Cera as Allan.

Peter- Knows all the words to I’m Just Ken. Has the Ken rollerblades and has attempted to run with them on but failed miserably. Is not ashamed to admit that he finds all of the Barbie’s attractive.

Oppenheimer

James- Actually remembers when the atomic bomb happened so is intrigued to see how they’ve translated it to film. Is disappointed that they don’t show the dead. Doesn’t understand why Oppenheimer feels guilty. Barbie is too bright, colourful and happy for him.

Kai- Barbie: a film about empowering women? Fuck that, Kai wants the movie with explosions. Pre-cult Kai would have cried seeing Florence Pugh naked. Considered changing his name from ‘Divine Ruler’ to ‘Death, Destroyer of Worlds’.

Barbenheimer

Tate- Really sees himself in Allen. Can relate to Oppenheimer’s guilt. Leaves both movies crying. Wants Ken’s hoodie that says “I’m Kenough”. Has an existential crisis leaving Barbie questioning who he is. Fears nuclear war after Oppenheimer.

Kyle- Did the Barbenheimer double bill. Secretly preferred Barbie to Oppenheimer but loved them both. Wore pink to Barbie. Gets excited every time he recognises an actor in Oppenheimer. Won’t shut up about both movies after he’s seen them and will fight people on the internet who insult them.

Jimmy- Team Barbie because he thinks every person in that movie is attractive. Team Oppenheimer because he actually loves a good biopic. Afterwards says he would definitely go to a Tupperware Party hosted by the Barbie’s.

Austin- Won’t stop talking about the Barbie soundtrack and costume design. Won’t stop talking about the theatrics of Oppenheimer. Won’t stop talking about Cillian Murphy’s eyes.

Colin- Empowering women!! Emily Blunt!! Colin definitely crushes on Emily Blunt and also loves a movie that empowers women so Barbie and Oppenheimer are his two perfect movies. Clapped at the end of both films.

Patch 1.1.0 is out -- NOW ON STEAM! Just in time for the holidays! Other PC platforms (EGS, GOG, Stove) will follow in due time. However, due to various development circumstances, we could not get this new patch ready for console porting in time before the holidays. We will inform you more later when we are better aware of the release timeline for consoles - so we ask for your patience.

Without further ado though, here are the Patch Notes for Gravity Circuit 1.1.0:

New features

Boss Rush: Guardian Corps HQ now features Combat Memory Bank, a computer which lets you refight any of the game's bosses at your leisure. Good for practice, or for chasing record times!

Armor paints: Prim, a painter NPC that hangs around in the Guardian Corps HQ, now offers swappable armor paints, allowing further customization! These armor paints each bestow new abilities or effects, so give them all a try! Prim will explain to you how to unlock the paints to her shop.

Quality of life additions

Loadout swap: A dedicated button for quickly swapping loadouts on the fly. During gameplay any unset or empty loadouts are skipped when the button is pressed, so you can choose to use only two loadout slots, or all three.

Slide: A dedicated button has been added for sliding. Down and jump will still continue to work, but this button may be useful for those who need it.

Hookshot - vertical: A dedicated button that locks the hookshot's aim only to upwards vertical directions. This may help with any platforming involving the hookshot, for those who might need it.

Mouse control mapping: You can now map mouse buttons on PC, in addition to keyboard keys.

Effect Timer: An additional toggle setting has been added to the game's system options menu. This toggle adds on-screen visuals for certain effect durations, removing ambiguity. This setting is enabled by default, but can be toggled off at any time.

Burst techniques

Cycle Kick: In-game shop price reduced from 2000 to 1500.

Surface Render: In-game shop price reduced from 2000 to 1500.

Gravity Freeze: Affected area increased, damage slightly increased.

Piercing Drill: The chain portion now also damages enemies, not just the tip, making the technique easier to use effectively.

Flying Strike: Fixed an issue involving the Speedrun Mode, where it was possible to accidentally skip acquiring the technique by saving and quitting during the Opening Stage (Central Station). It was still possible to buy the technique, but Flying Strike is intended to be given to the player for free.

Gameplay

Pass-through platforms: Kai can now gain sprinting speed by holding the run button (or having "inverse" run button behavior enabled) when dropping through pass-through platforms.

Sprint jumping when hugging walls: Previously, if Kai was hugging a wall while grounded (holding left/right while up against a wall), Kai would be unable to gain sprinting speed when the run button was held (or having "inverse" run button behavior enabled) when jumping. This behavior has been fixed.

Hopkick: Kai's hopkick (up+attack while grounded) has been sped up by a few frames based on player feedback.

Telefragging: When Kai is struck by a hazard (lava, spikes, crushing), Kai will perform an Emergency Warp to last safe ground. Because this behavior could sometimes lead to Kai respawning inside an enemy, Kai now automatically defeats any enemy around him.

Data chips

"NPC" type data chips: Research cost reduced from 150 to 100.

Stage changes

Highway: Fixed an issue where it was possible to skip over the stage's checkpoints with certain actions.

Ore Mines: Fixed a certain area not having correct camera triggers when entering it in a specific way.

Guardian Corps HQ (visuals): Additional sign has been added to hint towards the location of the training facilities.

Guardian Corps HQ (design): Additional platforms added to make reaching the Training Room easier.

Guardian Corps HQ (training room): When Dave the Training Dummy is hit, the Training Room door will be inoperable for a few seconds. This is to prevent players from accidentally exiting the room while performing combos.

Guardian Corps HQ (NPCs): "Prim" and "Shock" NPCs have switched places. Their dialogue has been adjusted slightly to match these changes.

Final stage: Additional respawn points added in a certain section.

Localization

Chinese: A certain scene had an issue where the talking characters were accidentally reversed, and there were other issues involving few untranslated words. This has been fixed.

English: Fixed a slight typo in Pat's dialogue.

Misc

macOS: Loading times improved by changing some code, that made some of the game's threads run slower on systems with M1 chips.

Speedrun Mode: If the in-game timer is enabled from the game's system settings, Speedrun Mode is enabled by default when launching the game (if Speedrun Mode has been unlocked). This is so that speedrunners do not need to remember to toggle this setting every time they launch the game.

General code performance: Slight improvements across the board in various places, that cumulatively help the game run more smoothly on lower end hardware.

K has been your best friend since you were little. What started out as family friends strengthened into a closer, deeper bond. They know a lot about you—more than your family does. You can always trust them to keep secrets and tell stories that always makes you laugh. K is friendly, caring, and loyal to a fault; especially to you.

Besides being friendly, K is a ray of sunshine. They tend to view things with an optimistic view and is always willing to help out others. The only exception is with humans. If they notice someone sad, frowning, or in a bad mood, K would try everything to cheer that person up. They are naive and curious too, which some have said will be their downfall. They do not care.

It is no secret to you that K wants to go to the surface. Despite everything you had been told—that humans are bad—it has yet to deter them. It was all they ever talked about, and though you had told them to stop, you can still see the spark of determination in their bright purple eyes. It is just a matter of when.

A thing I noticed about ZKs watching the show with their eyes closed and completely failing to understand the characters: Katara's bloodbending.

ZKs love to frame it as Katara's "darker and edgier" side that she should embrace, not be afraid of and that bloodbending isn't necessarily evil ( which, totally doesn't contradict the first point, but, whatever )

Except, while I agree it's silly to apply human concept of "good and evil" on something that is essentially a tool ( knives aren't necessarily evil because they're a common murder weapon, just how they're not good because we use them to cut our food. At least, that's my take on the bloodbending), they fail to remember how she came to learn it.

Hama put Katara in the helpless situation, where she either uses the bloodbending on an old woman, who before that Katara had seen as her friend and a fellow SWT waterbender, or she lets Hana kill Sokka ( Katara's brother, her family. It's not like Katara has any trauma regarding loosing her family... Who's Kya? /s ) and Aang ( Katara's friend/crush and the world's last hope to stop the war ). That, on top of bloodbending generally being very fucking scary, especially for a 14 year old girl.

Can you fucking imagine how scary, stressful and traumatic of an event that must've been?! Of course she's going to breakdown after that to the point that she'll need Sokka's and Aang's comfort and reassurance! Of course she's going to walk away with severe trauma and fear of bloodbending!

Yes, she used it again in TSR (which seems to be the only episode from book 3 that ZKs watch), however Katara was NOT in the good headspace during that episode, she used it on the wrong guy and she regretted it.

Even during the Agni Kai against Azula under the Comet steroids Katara didn't use bloodbending! That's how serious her trauma regarding it is!

So, while I don't agree with Katara banning the bloodbending, I completely understand her and why she did this. It does make perfect sense for Katara and Katara ONLY ( hello, ZKs that think Aang forced her to ban bloodbending! ) to do this!

Sorry about the long ask, but I just passionate about bloodbender characters and their attitude towards their bending.

But anon! Don't you know Zutarians latched onto that specifically as a symbol of "girl power" for Katara, and that the fact that she used it in a episode that heavily focuses on her finally becoming Zuko's friend means it HAS to be a 100% good, totally positive thing on her life to make Zutara look good by association?

Who cares about consistent characterization, themes, and lore? Making sure Katara looks badass while in the same place as Zuko counts as a "win" for Zutara (for the cronically online at least) and that is all that matters!

Piper was born in England, but moved to the US at a very young age. She’s known for being the epitome of “don’t judge a book by its cover” you see her and she seems kind of creepy due to the fact that she dresses very goth. But when you get to know her she’s really nice, then after spending time with her you’ll realize she’s really scary. Like. She could end you.

Kai is very laid back and chill. He’s a jock. Also he has a crush on his best friend, and his older sister gets a random side plot where she’s extremely gay and in love.
