~ book recommendations ~
tagged by @lavampira! thank you <3 i'll tag... @faerune, @elvves, + @ravensgard i have multiple answers to these questions, of course, but i'm gonna try to stick to my more recent reads.
1. the last book you read:
Embrace Your Weird by Felicia Day. I was expecting more inspiration rather than confidence-building, but it was still fun (even if Day is extremely millennial-humor).
2. a book you recommend:
My latest 5-star read, Die a Little by Megan Abbott. It was just so perfect. If you follow me on Goodreads and read my review you know.
3. a book you couldn’t put down:
Pompeii by Robert Harris. It was actually for class but it was just so well-written and exciting (duh, it's about a volcano exploding).
4. a book you’ve read twice (or more):
I actually don't often reread... I've only ever reread The Hobbit, A Game of Thrones (because I was continuing the series), and Island of the Blue Dolphins (fave as a kid).
5. a book on your TBR:
I have 575 books on my TBR so I randomized my Goodreads shelf. The first one that came up was The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
6. a book you’ve put down:
Most recently: Dear Sylvia, Love Jane by Erin Hall. It was a mess despite the good premise.
7. a book on your wishlist:
I mean, every single book on my TBR is on my wishlist. I don't usually buy books either so 🤔 Here's another random from my TBR: Queens of the Age of Chivalry by Alison Weir.
8. a favorite book from childhood:
Besides what I mentioned above, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
9. a book you would give to a friend:
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. I think it has a broad appeal and I loved it (I love her in general).
10. a book of poetry or lyrics you own:
Cowboy Poetry: A Gathering. Haven't read it yet!
11. a nonfiction book you own:
A is for Arsenic: The Poisons of Agatha Christie by Kathryn Harkup. Also have yet to read, but probably soon.
12. what you are currently reading:
Three books! Life in a Medieval City by the Gies, The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, and A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin.
13. what you are planning on reading next:
Honestly idk! I don't usually plan on what to read next because the reading mood I'm in changes a lot. Maybe a 1930s mystery, maybe a middle ages history, maybe a short fantasy story. We'll see.

Francesca Sardina, 16 (USA 1970)
Many think that all abortion in America was illegal until Roe v Wade, but a few states legalized it sooner. California was one of the states that legalized abortion under conditions that were so loosely defined that it was effectively legal on demand. This resulted in many deaths from “safe and legal” abortion.
A medical journal article describes the slow and excruciating death of a 16-year-old girl who was killed by legalized abortion in California. The journal article, which noted that “a legal abortion is still associated with significant hazard”, only identified the girl as Patient F.S, but death records later revealed her name: Francesca Marie Sardina.
Francesca was 15 when she underwent what she was told was a “safe and legal” second trimester abortion in a California hospital on August 29, 1969. She didn’t know that she would never be healthy enough to go home again.
After the abortion, Francesca became critically ill. She had an infection and showed symptoms of meningitis. The hospital treated her for 10 days and then had her transferred to another hospital in San Francisco.
Instead of having a party, Francesca spent her 16th birthday dying in the hospital. The infection from the abortion severely damaged her heart. Doctors tried aggressively to save her life, but she developed pneumonia and her heart damage continued to get worse. Felicia underwent two heart operations and was scheduled for another one, but she died before her third surgery. After 7 months of suffering, she died on March 6, 1970.
A few of the many others who died of pre-Roe v Wade legal abortion from California are Denise Holmes, Doris Grant, 19-year-old “Mary Roe”, 18-year-old Janet Foster, 16-year-old Natalie Meyers, Sara Lint, Twila Coulter, LaSandra Russ, Kathryn Marie Morse, Betty Gail Hines, Cassandra Kay Bleavins, Sharon Lee Margrave and Stella Saenz.
"California Death Index, 1940-1997," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VPH8-LLZ : 26 November 2014), Francesca M Sardina, 06 Mar 1970; Department of Public Health Services, Sacramento.

Wilson, McGowan, Mulgrew, Baccarin Added to FAN EXPO Philadelphia Celebrity Lineup, May 3-5
Tumblr media
The deep pool of fandoms at FAN EXPO Philadelphia, set for May 3-5 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, became even stronger with today’s announcement that Rainn Wilson (“The Office,” “Lessons in Chemistry”), Rose McGowan (“Charmed,” Scream), Kate Mulgrew (“Star Trek: Voyager,” “Orange is the New Black”) and Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, “Gotham”) have joined the event’s stellar celebrity guest lineup.
The four are folded into an incredible FAN EXPO Philadelphia roster that already includes Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny, The Wrestler), Adam Savage (“MythBusters”), Cameron Monaghan (“Shameless”), Danny Trejo (Machete, The Book of Boba Fett), Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, “Firefly”), Felicia Day (“The Guild,” “Dragon Age: Redemption”), Mario Lopez (“Saved by the Bell,” “Access Hollywood”), Ashley Eckstein (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”), Emily Swallow (“The Mandalorian,” “Supernatural”), Joonas Suotamo (Star Wars), Holly Marie Combs (“Charmed,” “Picket Fences”, Ben McKenzie (“Gotham,” “The O.C.”), and many more.
Wilson is best known for his portrayal of salesman “Dwight Schrute” over the full nine-season run of “The Office.” He has nearly 100 TV and film credits, including last year’s Apple TV+ hit “Lessons in Chemistry,” the 2022 Roku original film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and the lead in the Fox comedy “Backstrom.”
McGowan played long-lost sister "Paige Matthews" for the final five seasons of “Charmed.” The Italian-born actress first caught major attention for her role as "Tatum Riley" in the horror blockbuster Scream (1996) opposite Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette. She has appeared in more than 60 films and shows as an actress and is also an accomplished producer and director.
The award-winning actress and bestselling author Mulgrew has become FAN EXPO royalty through her portrayal of “Captain Kathryn Janeway” in “Star Trek: Voyager,” the first female captain in the franchise. She first hit screens nationwide with a lead role in “Ryan’s Hope” in 1975 among 80+ roles and is also an author of two memoirs.
Baccarin also vaulted to pop culture mainstay with a run on the series “Firefly” before capturing new audiences with roles on hits like “Heartland,” “V,” “Homeland” and “Gotham.” Baccarin also co-starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool as well as its sequel and has recently lent her voice talents to video games like “Destiny 2: The Witch Queen” and “Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR”) and the CW series “The Flash.”
Single-Day Tickets, Three-Day Passes, Ultimate Fan and VIP Packages for FAN EXPO Philadelphia are available now. Advance pricing is available until April 18. More guest news will be released in the following weeks, including line-up reveals for additional headline celebrities, comic creator guests, voice actors and cosplayers.
Philadelphia is the eighth event on the 2024 FAN EXPO HQ calendar; the full schedule is available at fanexpohq.com/home/events/.

A Road Trip. The Worst or Best Road Trip of Your Life?
Requested by: Anon
Request: Could you write a really sweet Charlie (Supernatural) fic where Dean sets them up together
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairings: Original!Charlie Bradbury x Fem!Reader
Warnings: Unsafe driving practice, Usual Supernatural language
Author’s Note: I was writing this when I found out Supernatural was ending. I’ve never been good with long speeches, and I’m not going to try now. I’m just going to say that my fandoms mean everything to me, and Supernatural will leave the biggest hole in my heart once it’s gone. I only hope that the family that this show built will carry forever. Anyway, sorry about that tearful stuff. This story is pretty fluffy actually. I tried my best to stay true to Charlie’s character. I figured we all needed her right about now.
Tumblr media
*******
There were times where you kicked ass. There were times where you were in the baddest bitch on the block. There were times where you had the confidence to do everything in the world.
The times when you were around Charlie were not grouped with those highly-ranked times. The stunning redhead and you had been hunting with the Winchesters based out of their bunker for a few years. It didn’t take long for you to develop a massive crush on Charlie. You couldn’t get over how funny, beautiful, and intelligent she was. To you, Charlie was perfect.
If only you could tell that to her. However, whenever you were around the LARP enthusiast, you unintentionally grew quiet. You still got the job done, but you were sure you seemed like an idiot to Charlie.
That’s why you were suspicious when Dean came up to you with the biggest smirk on his face, offering up a hunt. Dean knew about your crush on Charlie, and it wouldn’t be the first time he had tried to set you up with the fascinating woman. Luckily, you seemed in the clear because Charlie was no where to be seen or heard of when Dean proposed what he proposed.
That was, until you were loading up a pickup truck in the bunker’s garage. Dean walked into the big room with Charlie at his side. The way Dean saw it, Charlie was going to be your partner on the hunt.
After several furious glares from you thrown the elder Winchester’s way, you where alone in the pickup truck with the most beautiful girl in the world.
For about the first twenty minutes into the ride to the town where the hunt was, the two of you sat in silence as Charlie drove.
Then, Charlie did what you couldn’t. She spoke. “Okay, let me just cut through the tension here...Why are you always so quiet around me?”
Her question froze you more to the spot than you already were.
Charlie continued, “I’ve seen you with Sam, Dean, and Castiel. You don’t act like that around me at all. Why is that?” Her tone wasn’t mocking, or even apprehensive. Charlie was clearly just curious.
Right then, you really tried to say something. Like, really, really tried to say anything to respond to Charlie’s questions. Unfortunately, you came up with nothing.
Instead of pressing further, Charlie glanced at you from the road, and smiled, “It’s okay. You don’t have to answer right now. No pressure. I was just wondering--”
“I really, really like you,” you spoke before your mind caught up with your mouth. You could immediately feel a major blush on your cheeks.
Charlie stuttered before inquiring, “Like...like me, like me?”
“...Yep.” You figured there was no chance of backing out at that point, you you followed through with your spontaneity.
For the next several minutes, the two of you rode in silence once again. This quiet, you felt, was overbearingly more intense than the one you and the beautiful redhead had suffered through before. The new quiet made you seriously consider how dangerous it would really be to tuck and roll out of the pickup truck that was quickly turning into your prison cell.
    “I like you, too.”
Suddenly, the pickup was not a prison cell, but instead an ice castle because you physically and mentally froze. There you were, in the middle of a long extension of road, far away from any majorly polluted areas, and you couldn’t breathe.
Charlie continued, “I’ve liked you for a while now. I just never knew how to approach the subject with you. And you always seem so calm and relaxed. You know me, I can get pretty crazy when it comes to all that...medieval l and scifi stuff I like. I don’t know if you found me annoying or not. Then, there was the whole thing with me not knowing if you liked girls or not, and I didn’t want to embarrass myself--”
To cut Charlie off, you leaned over and kissed her. You tried interrupting her several times in the previous few minutes, but she was too far into her ramble. Her ramble that you found undeniably adorable. So, you kissed her.
Hopefully, you thought, she wouldn’t crash the car. Kissing her was taking her eyes off the road, but you put faith in the fact that you and her were in a desolate enough area to not cause any harm.
Charlie swerved a little, but stayed on the road. She kissed you long enough for you both to enjoy it, and Charlie sighed happily into the embrace. However, Charlie made the right choice by breaking the kiss, and placing her eyes back on the road. “Wow,” she smiled.
“Yeah,” you returned, grinning as well.
So, yeah. That was the best road trip of your life.
*******
Author’s Note: Thank you for reading! Fill up that heart and reblog if you liked it! If you would like to read more, I have more fics on Supernatural over on my page, along with other fics on other fandoms. You should go check it out. Also, REQUESTS ARE OPEN. I take requests for one-shots, multi-chapters, headcannons, and preferences. No smut, please. I write for a variety of fandoms. If you’re wondering if I write for a specific fandom, please ask me. Have a nice day, night, or whatever time it is for you.<3
