Looking at old blog posts, many years ago I did a "100 favorite female characters" list, but I have met so many wonderful new ladies now that it is quite out of date and needs a major update to accommodate them. International Women’s Day seems like the perfect time to do so!

Only this time I'm restricting it to TV characters, or I will die of Overwhelm.

NOTE: This list is not in any kind of order, I just wrote them down as they came to mind. I considered alphabetical, but found it was nicer to keep everyone from a given show together. I mean let’s call a spade a spade…Bonnie x Damon didn’t work in the tv adaptation because the actress that got hired to play Bonnie ended up being a Black girl. I know in my soul if that actress was white the characters would probably be together, I know Damon was just using Caroline as way through to Elena but they never had chemistry…ever. And who knows maybe it’s just Ian Somerholder but his Chemistry with Kat Grahm would have made Bonnie x Damon much more believable and watchable.

Like I’m pretty sure Damon and Bonnie were more like soulmates in the books or something. I will die on this hill, and knowing that Ian took Kat’s side when they tried to originally kill her character off that makes me love him even more.

What about Bonnie's canon ships? Do you think they had potential?

Soooo, I'm rarely on here these days and I'm super inconsistent with checking my inbox. I have no idea when this was sent. Sorry!

Anyway, screw them. I can't put into words how much I hate Bonnie's canon ships. The way people completely disregard Jeremy's disloyalty and infidelity makes me sick. The devil tried to rewrite Jeremy/Anna as some love story just so Bonnie experienced pain. Anna was using Jeremy the same way she was using Ben. Bonnie revived this loser and he cheated on her with the same vampire that kidnapped Bonnie. She revives him again with the expense of her own life just for him to cross relationship boundaries again with Liv Parker. Beremy was a shit relationship because Jeremy has the maturity of a toddler, constantly walking himself into danger cluelessly with Bonnie playing the mother who needs to protect him. Almost every single man who showed interest in Bonnie did so to use her (Ben, Luka, Shane). Bonnie didn't even like Jamie which is why she ditched him immediately.

Her relationship with Enzo brought a regression of Bonnie as a person. She was reckless for the sake of love. He was carelessly poisoning her to death which mirrored their entire dynamic. Bonnie wasn't even Enzo's first choice nor was she his second or even his third. He was supposed to be the "love of her life" and yet everything about them revolved around Damon. The devil wasted Bonnie's love on the most irrelevant characters to give them substance. Even in her relationship, she's written as a tool. Firstly, she's used for keeping Jeremy safe. Secondly, she is used for making Enzo matter and persuading people to care about him as a character (no matter how many storylines they threw him into, no one cared). Her relationships are all about Bonnie serving a purpose for the betterment of the men and Bonnie gets absolutely nothing out of it.

i imagine this would start playing after hanan's dad sends her off ahead of her sister and another warrior from clan lavellan. hanan almost treats going to the conclave as an easy little trip that she could go on by herself. the result of the conclave is both a blessing and a curse; she loses her sister and gains immense responsibilities and the looming fear that her clan could be harmed because of a mistake she makes, but she gains the most agency she would want and an unexpected love is able to flourish despite the circumstances.

First of all Ekaterina "Kat" Solokov by @struckbyelectriclove This quirky cursed weirdo has some of the best angst done by an insanely talented creator. From just how badly her curse effects her to the multiple angst-filled scenarios Charlie has come up with. Her relationship with Merula is also very well done.

Matthew Luther by @hphmmatthewluther I love how Matthew starts as this sweet, shy kid and he stays like that just a bit more confident thanks to Quidditch. To say nothing of the fact that he's an absolute badass when the time calls for it. His relationship with Merula (and the interpretation of Merula's parents as being decent people) makes me root for Luthersnyde 100% of the time.

Adel Young by @adellovesrowan also springs to mind. I love this girl's relationship with Rowan as they grow as friends, fall out and then reconnect later in life.

Freyja Young by @marmotish would it really be an awesome Ravenclaws list without Freyja? I love that she's always got a poker face yet she she still feels emotion. Marmo's artstyle especially makes sure the subtle changes in expression carry that much more weight. While quite flawed, that just makes me love her as a character even more.

Gryffindor

Next is Maca Camillo by @akaryuga I love the future AU for Maca and Merula. In large part thanks to Aka's art style, Maca comes off as a really expressive character and her relationship with Merula is honestly the most adorable one I've ever seen.

Eugene Hope by @witchy-push can I just say, I love how this OC swooped in and stole most of the fandom's heart, my own included. Witchy's art style brings Eugene and the other characters to life in such a unique way.

Verna Malinda by @gaygryffindorgal you know I love a good enemies/rivals to lovers story and Verna’s relationship with Merula delivers that in spades.

Hufflepuff

Artemis Hexley by @the-al-chemist I love this little firecracker and her tragic backstory. Her sass is most definitely the best part of her charm.

Carmilla Frank by @carmilla-the-bird I love that she's such a realistically flawed character. Also provides a really cool take on an MC who’s a seer. Her relationship with Merula is just the icing on the cake.

Cereza Gomez by @rosachaotic  Her relationship with Talbott is both one of the most well thought out and entertaining MC x Talbott relationships I’ve seen.

Slytherin

Edie Quinn by @praetoring I love that she attempts to breakaway from her death eater family. Her relationship with Barnaby is just the icing on the cake as far as this amazing character goes.

Alex Vega by @weirdcursedvaultkid without a doubt the cutest HPHM MC, I love all the cute little takes Alex’s character gives to certain moments in the game such as the Sphinx Club TLSQ.

The Back Rub

Jim Kirk x Reader 1,421 words Beta: @outside-the-government

Here it is, my first Jim fic! I am very nervous about it, but I do love it so. This is almost gender neutral - I do mention ‘bra-less’, sorry.

Bones isn’t the only one with legendary hands.

What little exhaustion-courage you had worked up on the walk across campus disappeared the moment your knocks were answered.

“Hey, Y/N. What's up?” Jim Kirk's voice was soft, and he had an interesting case of bed hair going on, looking as though he had been settled for a while, and you smiled awkwardly.

“Hi, Jim. I'm so sorry to have woken you, I had hoped it wasn't too late. Is Leonard here?”

“Don't stress; I was awake, just catching up on my reading. Bones isn't here, sorry, he's at the hospital tonight. Do you need some help?” Jim looked pointedly at the little tube you clutched to your chest, and your hand tightened around it as you shook your head.

“Oh...no, it's ok, thank you. I'll just catch Leonard next time.”

“Hold up,” Jim grabbed your arm before you could turn and leave, and extricated the tube from your grasp. “‘Deep Heat’, huh?” He looked down at you, eyebrow cocked, and if you didn’t know better you’d say he was a captain already. “Are you in pain, Y/N? Don’t lie to me.”

Try as you might, you’d never really been able to lie, and least of all to Jim. “I get back pain every now and then. It’s not too bad, just persistent, but I can’t rub the cream in properly on my own, so Leonard usually helps me.”

“I can help you.”

You bit your lip at the thought of his hands rubbing over your shoulders, massaging their way down to your lower back, and suppressed a shiver. “I don’t want to trouble you. I’ll just go by the hospital.”

“Y/N, I want to help you. I wouldn’t feel right letting you go knowing you’re in pain.”

You tried to avoid eye contact, focusing instead on the tube he had in his hands. His big hands. His big and also probably very skilled hands. Skilled hands that could, in the next ten or so minutes, be touching your skin. Bare skin. Touching and pressing and stroking and-

You made something of a wheeze before clearing your throat to answer Jim. “If you're sure, that would be…great, thank you.”

He ushered you in, giving you a friendly pat on the shoulder as you passed him. “No need to thank me; what are friends for?”

Borderline sensual massages, apparently. You ended up perched on the edge of his bed as he piled books up on his desk, filling the silence with small talk about his classes for the semester.

You wondered, as Jim crawled over to you, if you had made a huge mistake. As he motioned for you to lay down, you realised that you would never be able to look at him again without recalling the feel of his hands on your body, and as he pushed your shirt up to uncover your back, you fleetingly wondered if going bra-less was a terribly wonderful happenstance.

The cream was cold at first, causing you to jolt the moment he started smoothing it over your lower back, and you felt him add the slightest amount of pressure to keep you from rising.

“Do you get this pain often?” Warmth spread through you as Jim started to massage the cream in, and you gladly sank down, relieved that the pain was finally starting to ebb.

“Every few months. Most times I can just take some painkillers and feel fine, but every now and then that just doesn't cut it.”

“I haven't seen you in here before. Where does Bones usually do this?”

You gave yourself a moment when his hands brushed low, hitting a particularly troubled spot. “I normally see him at the hospital, but this came on hard and fast tonight and your dorm is closer. I assumed Leonard would be here,” you gave a little shrug as Jim added more cream and smoothed his way up your spine. “You know what they say about assuming.”

Jim laughed; a low snicker that shot straight through you as his breath fanned over your neck, and you willed your body to calm the fuck down.

Despite the mad beating of your heart at Jim's close proximity, you were so relaxed by your pain-free state that it took you a long moment to realise that while Jim had finished massaging your back, he hadn't stopped touching you. His fingers lazily trailed up and down your back, more for a need to touch than anything else. He had shifted to lay beside you, his other arm cushioning his head, and he gave you a small smile as your eyes met.

“How are you feeling?”

“Unbelievably wonderful, thank you.” You dropped your voice to a whisper to match his, the air between the two of you having changed subtly in the last few minutes.

“I'm glad Bones wasn't here,” Jim gently brushed a few wayward strands of hair back from your face, his hand staying at your neck as his thumb brushed against your earlobe, and you closed your eyes, leaning into his touch. “I've been wanting to talk to you like this for a while. Just us, no interruptions.”

Jim's admission brought a smile to your face, and you rolled onto your side to face him properly, feeling a little of your earlier courage return to you as you rested your hand over his. “I’ve been wanting that, too. It's just a little hard for me to talk to you, sometimes.”

His brow furrowed, and you couldn't help but feel that your words had not been received the way you had intended.

“I always worry that I'm going to embarrass myself in front of you; say the wrong thing, or just make a fool out of myself. You get me a little tongue tied at times.” You admitted,

“Would you believe me if I said that you have the same effect on me?”

“You could tell me just about anything and I'd probably believe you.”

“These last few days I've read some compelling research papers about the moon and its likening to cheese...”

“Your charm might make you more convincing, Jim, but I'll have to draw the line there.” You couldn't help but laugh at the look he gave you. “It cannot be surprising to you that I find you charming.”

“Not so much a surprise, but...nice, I suppose, hearing that you've thought about me enough to think of me as charming.”

“One does not have to do much interacting with you to come to that conclusion, James Kirk, you exude it in spades.” More of a need to be doing something than the other more obvious and pleasurable outcome, you began to fiddle with the buttons on his shirt. “That does not mean that I don't think of you, though.”

“Good thoughts, I hope.”

“There have been good thoughts and some...not so good ones, I'll admit that, but I won't tell you what they were.”

“I could coax it out of you, I'm sure.”

“If your coaxing is anything like your massages then you won't have any trouble.”

His laugh was soft, quiet. “Bones isn't the only one with legendary hands, you know. The interrogation wouldn't take very long at all.” As if to prove his point, he started to gently massage the back of your neck, and you closed your eyes, melting into his touch.

“Jim, you are magnificent and entirely too charming.”

“Go on…”

“Your penchant for shirt ripping is endearing and somewhat alluring.”

“Only somewhat?” He increased the pressure, his hand sliding lower, and you melted a little more.

“I think you should,” his low tone matched yours, as did his smile, and you closed the distance between the two of you, shuffling forward until you were close enough to gently press your lips against his.

It was soft and sweet; a combination that you weren't sure you had been expecting but welcomed wholeheartedly. As his hand moved from your neck to clasp yours, you couldn't stop yourself from smiling, and laughed breathlessly when you felt him do the same.

“This,” he whispered, kissing you once more, “is a fantastic way to end a rather monotonous study night.” “Fantastic?” You asked, smiling coyly. “I think we could try for delightful.”

I love you rant. I have been feeling this since episode 1x01. I don't ship Clary with Jace or Simon because I can't stand her character but I recognize chemistry. Simon x Clary have great chemistry but she treats him horribly as a friend and especially now. I watched Clace in ep 2x14, they are so bland, no chemistry and rarely smile around each other. It is forced and awkward. Maia has chemistry with Simon and Jace but those ships won't last because of fans and ultimately book ships. Tbc.

Magnus x Alec are the one couple exception to the rule. They have great chemistry, emotional scenes and writing. They sizzle yet fans pit Magnus and Alec against each other, trying to rush their relationship with a marriage and kids like you said. The problem is they need to stop trying to put a square peg in a round hole. The tv show is so different from the books, the characters are adults with the exception of Simon/Clary/Maureen who are 18. No one is barely a teen on this show at all. Tbc.

I agree again about Simon x Isabelle. Sizzy barely interacts. It is zero romantic chemistry. Their relationship is shallow. Izzy has way more depth and a connection with others. Simon has better chemistry and connection with Maia also. He really has it in spades with Jace and Raphael too. The show is so flawed but the writing has turned into its own entity. 2B is moving even further from the books and turning things political like what happened in the Seelie Court with Jace/Simon/Clary.

Simon doesn’t deserve this! I refuse to feel sorry for Clary though. She knowingly kissed him back despite having lingering feelings for Jace even after the truth came out about Jace. I don’t care for Climon because of Clary mostly. The writers also don’t have the real balls to go against the fans. I feel like the only 2 book ships that crossed over to tv are Malec because they are more visible and Luke x Jocelyn before they killed her off. Sorry about the asks. Your rant set me off next.

See, that’s the thing: I don’t hate Clary.. infact, I actually like her. I really do. I mean, she’s the typical ‘tries to do the right thing as long as the right thing is in line with her interest’ kinda main character… which is normal, i guess.. PLUS Kat is cute and so sweet and nice that I can’t help but like her character too.

BUT I disagree the fact that she keeps leading Simon on when she knows for fact that she’s still undecided about Jace. That’s not fair.

That’s downright cruel actually..

Clace fans were all like ‘Serves him right’.. ‘Simon should know better. Clary belongs with Jace.’.. ‘Simon is such a creep. Perving on his best friend’.. ‘Simon shouldn’t force Clary to be with him’..etc..

I wasn’t even a diehard Climon fan nor am i anti-Clace (I just think Climon is cute due to the characters developed such sweet and happy atmosphere when they’re together - again, chemistry is something we can’t control) and even I was like:

How on earth it was Simon’s fault? In which way he was wrong? Because he was happy that his longtime crush finally reciprocate his feeling? He never did anything beyond being her best friend and just steadfastly be by her side, supporting her - no matter how much it must’ve hurt to be ridiculed by Jace and yes, even Alec.. for being a mundane (and later vampire). He didn’t even confessed until after Clary and Jace broke up (and was so nervous about it too). And it was still up to Clary to accept him or not.

How the hell was he to know or even suspect that Clary never fully loves him? Yeah sure he might’ve  realize that Clary wouldn’t get over Jace so quickly.. but he figured it’ll okay since they found out that Jace is her brother. So obviously he felt insecure when Izzy told him that Jace wasnt Clary’s brother after all which was why he decided to follow them to Seelie’s Court - some fans called him a jerk for this..

Hello~ excuse me? Simon never once forbid Clary from doing anything/interacting with Jace.. never once questioned her.. He trusted her but yeah, he is still an 18 years old boy and yes he still feel that insecurity and felt this need to show Clary and prove to himself that he is useful… that he has nothing to worry about.. Clary is his best friend and lover, of course she loves him..‘

His face when he found out otherwise in the most humiliating way possible.. just… hurts my heart so much.

What gets to me is that  at the end, Clary will get her happy ending with perfect Jace (coz OBVIOUSLY Jace is only concerned about Clary’s feeling and who the fuck cares bout the guy he just so gloriously up’ed one more time, right?) and thats that.

And if Simon dares to even show that he’s hurt and doesn’t want to see/help the Shadowhunters for a while after this, if he dares to show normal ‘ i’m done with all of you’ reaction, fans would crucify him. They expect and want him to just accept it and brush it all off and jump into bed with Izzy as soon as possible so he won’t be a bother to Clace ship anymore.

And if he dares to be otherwise.. to show how deeply hurt he feels, well~ he is a jerk and stupid for not seeing this coming.

I never hate Clace but (most) their fans seriously are horrible jerks.

Oh and btw:

Clary kissed Simon first.

So tell me again how it was his fault that he thinks Clary likes him back?

See, I’m all about chemistry..

- That happy laugh that Clary have when she’s with Simon.

- That beautiful easy smile she always have when she looks at him

- That at first cocky turned bewildered turned awed turned amused turned affectionate turned shy looks/smiles Jace has for Maia throughout their encounters.

- That contempt turned annoyed turned pity turned grudging respect turned ‘you’re pretty but you’re still annoying’ turned affectionate ‘you idiot’ look from Maia to Jace

- That soft looks in Raphael’s eyes when he looks at Izzy

- That shine in Magnus’s eyes when Alec is near

- That barely concealed affectionate smile Alec has for Magnus when he thinks Magnus is being cute (to be fair, Alec thinks Magnus is always adorable^^)

- Those glances Alec keeps giving Magnus as if to constantly checks that the warlock is okay.
