FIRST JOBS
@itsbadno made a post about his early jobs and it got me thinking about mine. Let's see...
As a wee lad I went door to door selling Grit newspapers. I know you kids aren't familiar with newspapers these days, especially a weekly national paper delivered by a kid.
I shoveled snow out of driveways for a few extra bucks as a preteen in PA. We moved to Florida then and I helped out a friend with his lawn service and I enjoyed that.
As a teen I got a job with a national drug store chain as a cashier/stocker/whatever. I began working several stores in the area filling in once I developed a reputation for versatility and reliability.
My senior year of high school I moved on to The Kapok Tree Inn. There were several locations around Florida and I believe one up north. Ours had five dining rooms, gardens, a lake with a houseboat that you could rent for your honeymoon, a gift shop, and more. Scarface filmed something at that location.
Off hours, the staff was a bit on the wild side. As an impressionable young teenager it was awesome. They offered me a management position if I stayed, but college was waiting for me. They ended up closing six years later, so I made the right choice. The property is now a preserve.
While in college I worked in the campus game room where I hung "Out of Order" signs, drank beer, and played billiards. Off hours, the students were a bit on the wild side. As an impressionable young...
Anyway. First real job was with McCrory's, once known as the five and dime. With them I moved up the ranks, from a clerk to Assistant Manager to traveling around the south remodeling stores to Manager to "Assistant to the Regional Manager" of a spinoff chain. I wasn't really "Assistant to the Regional Manager," I borrowed that title from The Office. But I was the store manager where the regional office was located, which left me as the de facto backup, secretary, and assistant.
I saw the writing on the wall and left before they closed too. I miss the money but I don't miss the stress of retail management. Too many of my friends began getting heart attacks in their 30s, a good sign that it was time to move on.
Maybe one day I'll share my life from there, along with the name of the street my family home was on, passwords, and mother's maiden name.

These two lions are known as the Medici Lions because they once belonged to Grand Duke Ferdinando I de’ Medici and adorned Villa Medici, his home in Rome, until they were moved to Loggia in 1789. This lion is called Marzocco (Morrocco*?) and is a symbol of protection for the city of Florence, Italy, aka, the Free Republic of Florence against the imperial Eagle of Rome. The heraldic lion—also known as the Marzocco lion—is the animal symbol representing the free Republic of Florence. As the legend goes, the Florentine Republic chose the symbol of the lion over other animals because lions can tear apart the eagle, which is the symbol of imperial power

The Venetians are named after their city Venice, Italy, which is a city built around water with a serious of water canals. Likewise, Florida is a state with thousands of water canals similar to the ones in Venice, Italy. Venice was established by those Phoenician Moors that conquered the Iberian Peninsula, Spain, Italy, etc., which explains why Venice is a water canal city since the Moors as mariners were sea people (see image of Phoenician Maur); and this also explains the Moorish/ Tartarian architecture found all throughout Venice, Italy.
The Phoenicians were initially the Naga-Maya (Mayans) that civilized the world after their home Teotihuacan (the capital of Atlantis) had sunk (see blog post, “Teotihuacan is the home of Thoth). In addition, the Phoenicians are also from the Americas: https://www.americaistheoldworld.com/the-phoenicians-are-from-the-americas/.
These Naga-Maya (Phoenicians/ Atlanteans/ Egyptians) came to Florida and built the Moorish/ Tartarian architecture throughout Florida: https://www.americaistheoldworld.com/gibraltar-of-the-west/.
In this post are images of the Kapok Tree Inn and its exotic Italian (Venetian) restaurant, which is located around the Sam Ash Music Store, in Clearwater, Florida, near Tampa Bay (Bey) and by the Bay bridge. The Greco-Roman Architecture (Moorish or Tartarian Architecture) is amazing. Imagine how this place looked like in her prime! The Kapok Tree is the Sacred Tree of the Aztecs (Atlanteans) and Mayans (Egyptians), so yes…, Phoenician Mayans (Moors/ Tartars) built this. This place has two Medici lions at its entrance, which are a symbol of Florence, Italy.
The city of Florence was established by Julius Caesar, around 59 BC, as a settlement for his veteran soldiers and was named originally Fluentia, because it was built between two rivers, which was later changed to Florentia (“flowering”). Florentia sounds a lot like Florida, which also means Flowers or the land of flowers. In 1513, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon named the state La Florida – “Land of Flowers” – for the Easter season in which he made his discovery.
Also, Florida and Italy are both shaped like boots, and they are both Peninsula’s. The only difference is that Florida is shaped like a upside down boot.
Additionally, Italy and Florida share some of the same city place names, such as: Naples, Venice, Florence, and Milan. We can also Include Rome, Georgia, since Florida is attached to Georgia and Florida used to be a huge territory of land called La Floridas (Tameri), which included Georgi, most of North America, and some parts of Canada and Mexico. Georgia also has a Milan and a Florence.
Yes, the European Italy (Rome) was patterned after greater Italy or Italy Superior that was called La floridas. I say this because Ancient Rome and Greece was in the Americas: https://www.americaistheoldworld.com/ancient-greece-and…/.
Additionally, the first Vatican City was in Mexico near the Capital of Atlantis, which was Teotihuacan: https://www.americaistheoldworld.com/teotihuacan-is-the…/.
As the legend goes, the Florentine Republic chose the symbol of the lion over other animals because lions can tear apart the eagle, which is the symbol of imperial power: https://www.florenceinferno.com/marzocco-symbol-of-florence/.
In addition, at Whitehall in West Palm Beach, Florida, the Home of Robber Baron, “Henry Morisson Flager,” there is a fabulous Venetian Mansion by the water that also has two Medici Lions at the Front Entrance with a Giant Kapok Tree of the Mayans on the property: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shNollkkukQ&t=10s. The Middle name of Flager is Morisson and it means “son of the Moor.” Could Flager really be the son of a Moor or the conqueror of the Moors since he claimed towns and properties that belonged to the Moors? It was a little bit of both.
Whitehall was initially the Whitehall Hotel with a Moorish red roof (see post image), but now it is called the Whitehall Museum. This building even has a small train station attached to it that is made from copper and it has an old train inside of the station (see post images).
If you learnt anything and you want to help me out with the cost of research and travel, please donate to my Cashapp at $Amunhotep7. Thank you for your time and enjoy. Peace.

“Let’s Eat!”: A Special Exhibit at Clearwater Historical Society
In 2021 the Clearwater Historical Society Museum and Cultural Center hosted a special exhibit called “Let’s Eat!” Open until the first week in December, the exhibit showcases the oldest restaurants in Clearwater. They chose those which have or were open at least 40 years. Though most are closed permanently, six of the restaurants still welcome patrons through their doors. Kapok Tree Inn (1950 to…

June 23-24 Katherine to Borroloola
After fascinating travels along outback roads driving on the Stuart Hwy was very boring and not a little challenging for Lindsay with a constant stream of caravans and other traffic going north - staggering! Thank goodness we were not heading that way. By midday-early afternoon caravans are already filling the few overnight freebie parking areas. These people leave the parking areas at dawn and drive till midday or soon after to get a spot in a freebie zone! Strikes me as a strange way to travel but .....
Mataranka along the Stuart is an interesting Hwy stop with massive parking areas for trucks, road-trains, military vehicles and of course caravans; it was absolutely packed. We ate a hasty cut lunch and headed for Little Roper Stock camp (where had spent a delightful few days back in 2017) only to find it full so sadly that was that. We turned around and headed back to the Stuart Hwy and headed for Hi-Way Inn at the intersection of the Stuart and Carpentaria Hwys.
Just north of that is Daly Waters famous for its pub and other things. We’d been there before and didn’t fancy battling the crowds which we reckoned would be there. We were right! From all reports there were lines of caravans queuing from midday on. In spite of its touristy feel Daly Waters has an interesting history. John McDouall Stuart stopped there on his 3rd attempted cross the continent. He named the place because of the small creek there - when we were there 4 years ago we visited an historic tree with S (Stuart) carved into it. But more recently this was Australia’s 1st International Aerodrome as a refueling stop; the airfield is still there.
Tumblr media
We were glad to be heading east and away from the traffic flow. They seem ominous as packs along the road and at every pull over., parked outside caravan places with spots available. Shudder! I’m a little ashamed to say that ‘grey nomads’ have a bad reputation for being mean and argumentative. Many shy away from paying caravan park fees and are always asking for discounts or complaining about the cost if things. I mean really? You want services and enjoyment you have to pay and support the communities. Enough said.
Tumblr media
Michelle, who is based in Katherine, is an enterprising young woman taking her business to where it’s needed. She is ambitious and delightful. I wish her well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we were truly heading east along the Carpentaria Hwy, sealed but extremely narrow with a fair amount of traffic going west.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It had its moment with views over the plains and fringes of pretty pink Turkey bush and splashes of brilliant yellow kapok flowers.
Tumblr media
We stopped at the inexplicably named Cape Crawford for a quick lunch and arrived in Borroloola early afternoon to a fairly full caravan park - the only one in town, and breathed a sigh of relief.
