rules: shuffle your ‘on repeat’ playlist and post the first 10 tracks, then list 10 songs you really like, each by a different artist. then tag 10 people to do the same thing
The thing is, I don't have spotify. I'll pretend that I'm perfectly normal and do not listen to one random song on repeat for days. I will try to dig up something weird from my playlists.
Danger Dan - Das ist alles von der Kunstfreiheit gedeckt < i like this version more
Wir sind Helden - Ist das so?
The Stranglers - Let Me Down Easy
Princess Chelsea - Ice Reign
Kalle Mattson - Thick As Thieves
White Noise - Firebird
Garbage - Automatic Systematic Habit
IC3PEAK - Плак-Плак
Самое Большое Простое Число - Конец света
Несчастный случай - Тоннель в конце света
I forgot who was already tagged and who wasn't, so if anyone else wanted to do it, then it's a sign for you

In it’s 35th year, the Ottawa Dragon Boat festival is an attraction for outdoor music revellers, beach enthusiasts and competitive dragonboat racers. The best part – it’s free. So, for anybody that may have missed it this year, put it on your calendar for next year as a must see event!
Here is what you may have missed-
Day One
The Elwins: A great new band from Keswick, ON with a lot of fun, upbeat songs. They have a great stage presence and one of the best moustaches I have ever seen. Find them here- http://www.theelwins.com/.

Said the Whale: I first seen Said the Whale a number of years back at the Folk on the Rocks festival in Yellowknife, NT. They were very new back then with a very unique and interesting sound. With a bit of pop mixed with some west coast Canadian folk. Their style has remained much the same and I was excited to see them again. Although, I was a bit disappointed hearing them this year as I don’t think the venue fit their music very well. It seemed muted and not as fun as I recall, but we all have our bad days, so don’t let this stop you from giving them a listen. Find them here- https://www.saidthewhale.com/.

The Sheepdogs: As expected. Hailing from Saskatchewan, these guys have gained popularity with their bluesy filled, rock/folk music and their country stylin’ appearance. It’s the type of music you want to hear loud at any outdoor (or indoor) music festival. The Sheepdogs filled the park with more Dragonboat festival goers than any other band this past weekend. Find them here- http://www.thesheepdogs.com/.

Day Two
Kalle Mattson: Not to be outdone by the cool temps and overcast, Kalle had some nice chill tunes to help bring in the crowd for the upcoming acts. His mellow tunes encouraged folks to pull up a piece of lawn and crack open that first cold one. Find Kalle here- http://www.kallemattson.com/.

The Zolas: In some cases, a similar sound to Said the Whale, and 1 of several Vancouver based bands attending the Dragon Boat festival this year. The Zolas are fun and clearly love being in front of a crowd. I would be happy to see them again. Find the Zolas here- http://thezolasmusic.com/

Dear Rouge: Danielle from Dear Rouge is like Steve Tyler meets Joan Jet. From the moment she hit the stage, it was all about the performance. I can’t wait to see where Drew and Danielle McTaggert go – they can only get bigger. Great modern rock sound – don’t miss Dear Rouge!

Day Three
Twin Flames: A blend of modern folk and indigenous vibes. Twin Flames carry an amazing message of harmony and love for their community and the strong desire of expanding that community to reach every one that listens to their music. They call Ottawa home and like many of us that live in Canada, have a varied background of many different cultures. The strength of their values and desire to teach through their music should be embraced. You can find them here- https://www.twinflamesmusic.com/.

Kasador: What I would consider Canadian indie rock – if there was a poster, they would be on it. A blend of mellow guitar, great vocals and a fun beat. Fresh from Kingston, On and they only got together in 2015 – I look forward to more of their fine tunes. The only disappointing bit was that the upcoming bands clearly had more gear than the stage could handle so Kasador was smushed over to one side of the stage. They still made the most of it and did an outstanding performance. Find them here- http://www.kasadorband.com/.

The Darcy’s: I am still not sure what to make of these guys. A two piece beach party with a lot of gear – this consisted of both a giant neon sign, a giant plastic lit palm tree and whatever gear you need to have a functioning air puppet on the stage. Yah, you know those things you see in front of used car lots waving around and popping up every 30 seconds… Props aside, they played some good tunes to welcome the sunshine back after a brief down pouring of rain. And here I have to give credit to the local Ottawa radio station, Live 88.5, for distributing some much needed rain ponchos. You can find more The Darcy’s here- http://www.thedarcys.ca/.

Half Moon Run: This band has really put a lot of thought into their light show. There was barely a moment when the stage was not dynamically changing through the effects of their lights – it was quite a feat. The crowd was not quite as big as it was for the Sheepdogs, but I think that may have been due to the risk of rain. And to be fair, it did rain earlier. I think their music was good, but I was memorized by the lights for most of the show – well… I was also trying to take pictures. Crazy light shows and photography don’t always mix, but when you do it right, you can get some pretty awesome shots. I would shoot performances like this all the time if I could. Find them here- https://www.halfmoonrun.com/.

The Painted Bird: Dreams and Nightmares of Europe Available at www.draw-down.com This book chronicles the creation of The Painted Bird, a colossal, collaborative mural painting in Marres, House for Contemporary Culture in Maastricht, (NL). Made by 19 artists, under direction of Gijs Frieling, the painting covers the entire interior of the monumental Marres villa, with beautiful and frightening impressions of Europe including a high tech supermarket, the last remnant of a natural forest, a virtual detention room, a spider portrait corridor, and a new life festival in the year 2050. Combining letters written by Gijs Frieling, the artists, and curator Valentijn Byvanck with stunning photography capturing the work in progress as well as the finished work, the book serves as a monument for this collaborative art work in which the future of Europe is contemplated and engineered by means of brushstrokes, paint, sound waves, and stories. At the same time, it constitutes a passionate appeal to view Europe as the site of a new collective imagination. Participating artists: Marie Aly, Cian-Yu Bai, Kim David Bots, Bonno van Doorn, Gijs Frieling, Natasja Kensmil, Klaas Kloosterboer, Mirthe Klück, Frank Koolen, Fiona Lutjenhuis, Jan van de Pavert, Tanja Ritterbex, Sam Samiee, Charlotte Schleiffert, Derk Thijs, Sarah Verbeek, Helen Verhoeven, Evi Vingerling and Job Wouters. Rose-Erin Stokes Unveils "The Same Way
Highlighted by an artistic acumen and an amazing ability to evoke emotion, Rose-Erin Stokes’ music is demonstrative of a songwriting craftsperson at work, with music, words and vocal performances that connect to the hearts and spirits of all who hear them. What is undeniable is the deeply honest approach to her musical storytelling, a wide-open emotional tableau that is representative of the silence of the vast forests, and big open skies of the northern Ontario city of North Bay where Stokes was born and raised.
“The Same Way” is taken from her forthcoming sophomore album, When The Sun Goes Away, produced by Jim Bryson (Kathleen Edwards, Kalle Mattson) with additional production by Andrew Sowka and set for release this August 2022. There was inadvertently a long period of time between writing “The Same Way” and getting into the studio to record the album. In becoming a little less viscerally attached to the song, it opened up space to breathe new life into it in a collaborative way which felt really special after emerging from a long period of isolation and musical disconnect.
Watch official music video for “The Same Way” – a quirky, endearing short film of a small town fishing derby and an unexpected catch: https://youtu.be/n8BdAzGlMA0

🌙🌸✨ questions! ✨🌸🌙meme 6, 25, 26!
6. do you have a favorite quote?
I do! It’s from the goodbye letter of the late, great Jack Layton - former leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party. No matter where you fell on the political spectrum, everyone loved Layton. I have no doubt in my mind that he would have been Prime Minister one day.
He passed away due to complications from cancer in 2011. You can read his full letter to Canadians here, but the last few lines I’ve carried with me for nearly a decade:
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.
25. what inspires you?
Oof, this is a tough one! The people around me inspire me - friends and family. I want to be someone that they can be proud of knowing and loving. I want to be the best person I can be for them.
26. is there a song/movie that always makes you cry?
Ha! I’m a big sap, so anything remotely emotional makes me weepy. For songs, I actually answered this on Twitter earlier today! The top three that immediately come to mind are:
Fooled by the Night - Minus the Bear
I Will Follow You Into the Dark - Death Cab for Cutie
Amelie - Kalle Mattson
As for movies, ones I’ve seen recently that threatened to make me cry (or succeeded) are:
Loving Vincent
Call Me By Your Name
Spotlight
There are a lot of others! But as I said, a lot makes me emotional ;)
🌙🌸✨ questions! ✨🌸🌙
