HYPMIC 6TH ANNIVERSARY QUESTIONS

How and when did you get into HypMic?— in 2018!!! i say my anniversary is the same as the release of death respect because that album was my first ever hypmic purchase lol. as for how, ichiro’s face is very cute lol 😊

What originally attracted you to HypMic?— i’m a little surprised actually that ichiro’s face did draw me in at first, but with the most formative series i’ve ever gotten into, i was attracted to it because the lead character looked adorable so time is a flat fcking circle LOL. the music sealed the deal tho lol

How does HypMic compare to the media you're usually into?— hypmic tells a lot of story thru bangers and the other series i tend to get embarrassing brainrot from also have had character songs that expressed their world views thru bangers so i am pretty consistent at that front. tho hypmic being considered amongst the ranks of enstars etc is a departure from my usual types of media (i don’t particularly care for otome games/media lol)

First impressions of the characters? Who stuck out the most?—i don’t have strong feelings on anything i’m not into, so save for finding ichiro cute, i didn’t have very strong first impressions of anyone lol. the music changed that tho, like mtr brainrot largely happened because jakurai and hifumi’s verses in drb and dba hit lol

Who was the first character you liked?— buster bros’s big bro yamada ichiro❤️

Who have you grown to like that you didn't think you would before?— the bb stan in me may have resisted liking mtc and and the ichijiku simp in me may have also resisted rei for a hot minute lol but man look at me now LOL

What's a HypMic collab/crossover that you hope to see in the future?— ddb members got to dance with hatsune miku so in a way i got my hypmic x vocaloid collab lmao. so next up i say when ryme from pkmn sv is introduced in the anime, they celebrate with a bat collab LOL

What friendships/relationships are you most interested in?—i really want to know how rei and nayuta’s relationship started and was up until she was attacked. lol like they had to have been a disgustingly in love couple right???? (pls have been a disgustingly in love couple lol) and i will always eat nb/mcd crumbs up like dice at a buffet lmao

About your favorite character - why do you love them?— i like that i don’t find kuukou very relatable actually lol. he’s very different from me and it’s aspirational in that sense. other than that, he’s the sun and the sun is a very important part of the the ecosystem that keeps life on earth—

About your favorite Division - why do you love them?— they’re fun!!!!!!!! they have great music!!!!!! ik fandom likes to treat hitoya as the dad (like to the point people forget shakku and jyushi’s parents are in their lives lol) but it’s a very equal relationship, one where they keep each other growing!!!!!! the best kind of found family!!!!!!!!

Drop a headcanon for your favorite Division.— this was intended to be a canon au lol, but it’s cute so i just pretend it’s real lol. but kuukou is an og argo kushiiiiiiii orchestra stan LOL. he saw a fancam of their first ever live house performance and was an instant fan lol. he learned hitoya knew the lead singer when said lead singer happened to take a selfie and hitoya was kinda (his pompadour lmao) in frame and kuukou promptly blew up his phone about it so hitoya knows kuukou’s a fan. but then kuukou played it cool in front of jyushi when they met for the first time at the temple and hitoya’s patiently waiting for the opportunity to embarrass tf out kuukou about it LMAO

If we ever get more Divisions, what characters would you like to see? What would you like to see represented?—if we get new characters, it better be because it’s a 2nd generation tbh. i actually kinda wanna see hypmic take it out of japan tho and make divisions based in other countries like china and south korea!!!!! the world of hypmic implies hypnosis mics exist outside of japan so i think it’d be cool to see hypnosis mic: china or something like that lol

Do you follow any of the seiyuu outside of HypMic?— i still cyberstalk hayama-san lol and i do keep up with whatever bat seiyuu does in general, as well as iwasaki-san!!!! btw!!!!! hayama-san is going to be in an anime called kawagoe boys sing coming out the same season as rhyme anima➕, sakakihara-san’s dead mount death play is returning as well and iwasaki-san is co-starring in an anime called the four yuzuki brothers, and takeuchi-san has landed a regular gig with cookpad where he’ll be cooking meals every month starting later this month so pls do support them LOL

Did you pay attention during the livestreams/radio shows? Have you learned anything about (J)hiphop culture?—it’s been very fun and educational sitting in on dj uichi’s dj lessons lol like i feel like i could use his dj equipment with how thorough he’s been lol

Which of your fanworks are you most proud of?— hmmm my kuukou week pieces came out pretty well i think!!!! i set my dragon one as my wallpaper lol. and i’m very fond of my birthday comic for hitoya from like uhhhhhhh twooooooooo years ago i wanna say????? it set my precedence for for hitoya and kuukou picking on each other in my art lol

Which media do you prefer - ARB, the manga, stage play etc.?—canon (drama tracks/manga)!!!!! tho the writing wishes it was as intense as the stage lol for the most part i do prefer the stage in that regard

What moment in the HypMic series made you feel the most emotional?—in canon, that would be the if we rust etc drama track and the nb/mcd breakup lol. outside of canon i still can’t believe i celebrated bat’s third anniversary in nagoya with that incredibly special 8th live and the stage ending has done some irreparable damage to my heart tbh

Have you ever made any theories? Did any of them come true?— i didn’t know it until i happened to go back on my blog a bit ago but i actually correctly guessed rei was trying to bring his wife back waaaaaay back in 2021 based on his speakers lol. most of my rei theories were on point so who knows what else i guessed correctly but just forgot i did lol

What plot points do you hope to be explored more in the future?— imma be level with kr. just tell me if kuukou is only meant to exist a cutie who spits occasional wisdom and fcks people up when the opportunity gives him reason to lol. like that’s fine if so, i’m having fun with just that lol!!!!!!!!! but like. i’m. a little weary waiting for his additional depth by this point without the promise he will get it lol like can you believe bat has no chuuoku stakes three years into their existence. besides that, i would like to know if ichiro’s ability really does need others to keep him steady as he uses it!!!! because if so i might be able to draw some parallels with ichiro and the true hypnosis mic lol

How do you hope the series meets its conclusion?— i’m partial to the conclusion playing out like it does in rhyme anima and track 4 where the leaders went on their own to face the big bad and then the 2/3gumi showed up and reminded them exactly why they need each other lol. i was hoping for a power vacuum situation where the government was overthrown by the cast and we’re left with a bad end kinda feel to a cliffhanger that opened room for a 2nd gen that kinda resents the 1st gen a little lol but somehow!!!!! i got my power vacuum because rei kinda single-handedly took down the government!!!!! idk what to expect now lol!!!!!!

What does HypMic mean to you?— a fandom home 😌

Why should someone get into HypMic?— don’t ahaha🌟 to discover something new!!!!! be it a twist on genre of music you already like or as a gateway to a new genre of music to like!!!!!!! the characters are fun and the setting they’re in makes them even more fun!!!!!!! it’s just a fun time lol

1) i actually posted about it lol but i say my hypmic anniversary is when death respect came out!!! i got into around that time when a third jp merch site i used to shop at had a listing for bbmtc patches and yamada ichiro’s patch was the cutest thing i had ever seen lmao

2) besides ichiro’s face lol i listened to dba and was sold

3) hm!! i think it tracks with other stuff i obsess with!!! there’s characters with depth, finding bonds with each other/being found family, with a healthy dose of action!!!! the fact it’s told thru music is a plus; the fandoms i hung around longest in the past utilised character songs to supplement their character and i lost my mind then much similarly to the way i do now lol

4) i didn’t have a negative opinion on anybody the moment they appeared actually!!!! (except for rei lol but that was because he was disrespecting ichijiku and not for his crimes as a deadbeat dad lol) obvs the ones who stood out were ichiro, then jakurai, and then kuukou lol

5) ichiro!!!! ❤️

6) mtc and rei actually!!!! like mtc was my least favourite division when it was just the og divisions!!!! ‘somebody gotta do it’ and ‘don’t play no game that i can’t win’ dropped and that’s when my opinion of them changed but i’m not sure when i became significantly less normal about them lol 🤔 as for rei, i had a negative opinion from the get go and being bb’s father certainly didn’t help, but then i used my brain and embraced his mystery and his clowniness lol

37) i don’t want any new divisions at all but if we were to get some, i’d hope they’d be from okinawa, hokkaido or kyoto

Book recommendations that deserve the spotlight

Compiling these as an underrated book lover myself!

The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee

Book one actually has a lot of ratings than the others in this list but I don’t see it talked about a lot.

It’s adult urban fantasy, Mafia-esque and intergenerational.

It has kung-fu, magic, politics, great morally grey characters, family dynamics, and worldbuilding. Also, GIRLBOSS! (no, not just one).

VERY INTENSE.

Robbergirl by S.T. Gibson

Stand-alone YA Fantasy. Snow Queen retelling.

Has less than 250 ratings on Goodreads.

Has SAPPHIC YEARNING.

This one has less than 200 ratings on Goodreads.

Masters of Death is a whole other vibe.

Large cast of characters that work together so well (their banger was so funny too please).

This is quite difficult to describe, but basically it’s kind of like a mash-up of different fantasy elements. There are Greek gods, there are angels, a reaper, an aswang (one of the best things I like about this was the Philippine mythology, we don’t get a lot of those!), a poltergeist, and a lot more.

Also, personification of Death! And he’s called Papa? And whenever he curses he needs to snap a band over his wrist as a reminder not to do it again? (or at least do it less frequently 😂). Damn right it’s here.

There is a game. The only rule is: Don’t lose.

Beautiful writing, sexy characters. Diverse.

Author of Color!

The Burning by Evan Winter

Full of rage. Revenge story.

Non-European fantasy. Written by an Author of Color.

Epic battle scenes.

Look at that cover.

A lowly commoner driven by hatred and the want to prove himself (and those of his social class) no lesser than the upper class.

Women in positions of power. Only WOMEN can call dragons in this book.

INTENSE.

STRESSFUL.

WHERE WE FIGHT, THE WORLD BURNS.

Alone With You in the Ether by Olivie Blake

Another Olivie Blake, of course.

Contemporary

A love story, but not a conventional one.

Intimate, painful, and also hopeful.

Philosophical.

Beautifully written (I mean it).

Great portrayal of mental illness.

3. Favorite group song?

Ahhhh there’s too many bangers for me to pick but shibuya marble texture and stella will always hold a place in my heart! Some other faves (in no particular order) would probably be Kaigen, Scarface, rip, honestly all of the fp group songs lol, and tomoshibi!!

4. Favorite division all stars?

Hoodstar!! I actually have a fun fact about this song! So my interest for hypmic fell off and I was out of the hypmic loop for a year or two then one day I was like “oh yeah I remember really liking hoodstar I should give that listen again” which lead me to listen to other songs I remember really liking which lead me to making a playlist of songs on Spotify which ended up recommending the songs that I didn’t hear and that’s how I got back into it! So basically hoodstar got me back into the series lol other than that cross a line and survival of the illest are also up there!

30. What is a song you think doesn´t get the attention it deserves?

update: WAIT a minute, I just saw that her first theonite book is about daniel thundyil (!). so sword of kaigen is a prequel. that's why it felt like I was thrown into a complete world all the time… well, that's not a standalone to me, at any rate. it's a bummer the YA planet adyn series has pretty bad ratings…

I did some research and turns out the theonite series was discontinued (or put on hold?) as the author said herself that making spinoffs of a not working story won't make it better. I actually agree with that - even though it sounds harsh and I haven't actually read the other books - but sometimes starting off clean helps, especially in fantasy, as you can easily get caught in your own worldbuilding web as a writer.

wang could've just soft rebooted the series with a soc-style spinoff - which I get was the intention with the sword of kaigen - but it seems too far removed from the og series plot. so it's probably better if she starts something else. but I have faith that m. l. wang could write a banger like six of crows bc leigh surprised everyone with soc after her early, very mediocre grishaverse works (imo, don't hate me) and wang's first theonite books seem to be similarly not so great. m. l. wang also wrote she can't handle it at her current skill level, which I think is really brave to admit bc again, that's something leigh bardugo said she struggled with as well with the grishaverse books at the beginning. she just chose to slightly move her focus into a smaller, more confined, yet very character driven space and then (partly) merge them again. which is similar to what wang did with sword of kaigen, but it feels different. and read the soc duology before the grisha trilogy too and it worked well on its own.

wang's most recent book, blood over bright haven, had mixed reviews as well, and the plot doesn't appeal to me as much, so I'll probably won't get into this. but I read there are a couple adult and also YA series coming up. so I'm hoping for the best bc I do want to support her!

I immediately thought after ending the book that I enjoyed a lot of things about the book, but the plot itself was such a mess. I read in a review that the last third of the book read like a very long epilogue which I agree with, but it was much more thrilling than an epilogue. it was like the real story only started then and things strated to connect.

I also read that the book is lacking and editor and I 100% agree with that. the plot was really good in the end and I liked the (main) characters, but the parts didn't seem to fit together at all. I felt like I read 3 different books: misakis past life, marmorus school life with all the worldbuilding and the time after the ranganese attack. I guess I don't understand why this isn't a series, there was so much material.

one of the things in which it did deliver plot-wise though, was its lack of tropes compared to YA. the school could've easily been like hogwarts and dai like dumbledore etc, but there was fairly little focus on the school as the story progresses. so it's honestly the first (english) fantasy book I've read that didn't immediately give me hp vibes. and I enjoyed the fresh wind!

in general it's weird bc the book was so unusual and unpredictable and I really liked the (main) characters (some others were a bit two dimensional), but I can't say it's a good book altogether bc there was so much stylistically wrong with it. and I feel bad about that! it's actually a bit how I feel about the kos duology, now that I think of it. a+ characters and some a++ scenes, but also scenes and plot turns where I thought "why was this kept in?" is my taste just too set on something or do other people understand what I mean? I think I would still recommend it, after all, but only with a disclaimer that it'll leave you a bit unsatisfied.

I really love Rio and Dice but god, Bad Ass Temple as a whole hits different.

Every song from them, a banger.

BAT Funky Temple Sounds; so fucking good, give me more high energy bops.

Sogyaran BAM; um a party song if I ever heard one, karaoke material 1000%.

Moonlight Shadow; best energy, makes me feel so dramatic miming the lyrics, also an absolute headbanger.

But my final thoughts!

As you can see from above, I want BB, M, and FP to win. I only realized that I just needed Samatoki in there to be TDD haha Honestly a bit disappointing that I didn’t but lemme explain myself for my reasons.

While I do love the new divisions (I’m a hard DH fan tbh lol), I mostly wanted to focus on how it would affect the story and then the group’s performance. Since the start, before the lives, I wanted to support BB, M, and MTC. As you can see, It’s been changed from MTC to FP X”D

(Black Journey is too powerful imo it has me rolling every time. Though ramuda’s first beginning aprt definitely caught me off guard and that lil intro had me laughing. That chorus??? Freaking <3<3)

Buster Bros, I think I only got around to talk about the first two groups never the next two pfft. As much as I would like to see our favorite comedy duo win, I really want them to beat their father and get a sense of victory as well. I won’t forget the fact that they were the first to go first DRB rip Re:Start is ultimately better than Wara Osaka in my opinion, even if its tacky dance lives rent free in my mind and I think about them often lol. Jiro’s Aniki is going to take some time to get used to, but I think that development (all of them, save Ichiro tbh ??) in the drama track has pulled my heartstrings and they’re adorable.

Hmm, honestly when it does come to M vs BAT, my sibling has had me conflicted many times. (She’s also the one that converted me from MTC to FP blame her lol) It’s true- if BB is going to win, wouldn’t we want a Naughty Busters like reunion? If we aren’t going to get it from DH and MTC that is. Kaigen and RIP are also superb compared to Tomoshibi... (it was a good song I swear- just come on, BAT had more energy this time around XD It fit the hype I was looking for in the 2nd DRB) Rip for Kuko’s scream that isn’t in the actual recording only in the live ashdjkk. If he doesn’t do that future lives still Imma be sad lmao. Anyways I don’t think the “champions” should just go afterwards either. Also les make that inferior complex worse ehhhhh jkjk Also, overall I just feel like M’s popularity and that Drama track might secure them that win. I think the plot might be cleaner then?? Of course, it’s all debatable and Im sure that if either team won, the story could still develop just fine.

Dear goodness, Jyuuto’s part in Hunting Charm actually haunts me. Anyways, Fp doesn’t deserve to lose, what was that one joke floating around about the pink one getting it. Please. Just let them trick or treat form other clones, he doesn’t deserve this ajhsjkkk While as much as I think Samatoki deserves that win and revenge for Nemu (Also potentially meeting her?? But ig he doesn’t have to win to have that opportunity) I feel that FP’s stronger bond and passion to live might push them for that win.

As for the versus songs themselves-

I’ll be honest, for the amount of hype that I had for the 2nd DRB, DhvsBB disappointed me... In the sense of energy of course- I still find it a heckin good bop. But I think what I wanted was just them spitting fire at each other, just fire XDD It was cute- their lil manzai and joking, but I think it would’ve been cooler to throw heat in there. Seemed more to DH’s vibe than a mixed battle vibe.

Now the other two songs, much like the past DRB songs were LIT. I absolutely loved them. That banger part in Reason to Fight that makes me throw my hands in the air to go with the beat (Yall know it lol) is killer. Doppo’s scream -beautiful as always (but also Jyushi’s and kuko’s lol)- including just the raw energy I felt from Light Shadow was absolutely phenomenal.

I honestly wish there was more anger(?) in Dh and Bb But I also get why it didn’t lol Either way, although they're like my top favorite divisions, that’s my reasoning. I’d chat about the Drama tracks too, but tbh I haven’t seen the translations yet so I don’t wanna spread misconceptions lol
